My grandmother always gave me great advice. About weight she said once you’re at a weight you feel good at never think about losing weight just think about maintaining it. If you go up 2-3 pounds be extra diligent about your choices for a few days and you’ll back to your happy weight.
Related to that - if you are going to a special place for an event and you know that there will be certain foods or desserts you just can't resist or will want seconds of, fast a little a day or two before and maybe a day or two after to compensate and it will all even out.
I think the lack of snacking is a real key. Snacking is so insidious, small bites here and there are easy to write off and before you know it, you've grazed all day and eaten what amounts to an extra meal.
Yes! Intermittent fasting is basically just allowing one's body to burn off energy stores... If you keep eating, you will end up with excess stores of fat and your body will never get to anything but the food that you just ate and your body may not even burn that off! Totally agree with everything she is saying! It is so wise and how we should ALL be eating! Processed food is NOT food! No one needs to eat 8 times a day! And I love what she says about dealing with an extra pound or two, IMMEDIATELY.... Excellent advise! I just lost 25 pounds that I had gained over a 4 year period of feeling down and I coped by eating (regretfully) but once I got my head in the right place, I lost the weight in only about 3 months.... I did pretty much everything that she just said. I feel great! And I look great!
I agree. I remember years ago my high school age son went to Reims, France to live with a family on an exchange. When he came home, he said his family never snacked and he was starving the whole time. That was an eye opener! I think North American kids don’t eat proper meals because they snack so much.
You are so right saying that we need to address any weight gain immediately. I have done this all my life (and I'm not even French). And my weight has stayed just where I wanted it. Lovely video. And I like your outfit. So casual, but so ready for any occasion.
I could not agree more with the pair of you. I am 68 and in very good shape, weight and diet without even trying, precisely because 1) always kept track of my weight and 2) I know how to cook, I know how to eat. During the pandemic, working from home and tempted, I did not actually want the temptations, it is all a matter of making your health and weight control a routine. Great show Marie-Anne. Thank you.
You don’t really lose weight as such by exercise but it keeps you fit, healthier and feeling better so it’s easier to take care of your diet and lifestyle.
Part of the problem is the amount of sugar contained in the foods in the United States. For instance, if you compare a loaf of bread made in the US with a loaf of bread made in Europe, you will find that US loaf contains a lot of added sugar that the European bread does not. The food producers in the United States have learned sugar produces endorphins in the brain making people want to come back and buy more. Another example is Starbucks bacon egg bites. Did you know Starbucks also adds sugar to the product to addict people into buying more? . As such, almost everything in the US has added sugar. This means you’re going to get a lot fatter eating foods produced in the United States than you would eating foods produced in Europe.
Not only that...the milk and products are loaded with estrogen. And unfortunately our cities are not built for walking around. And convenience food....like drive throughs....that you live far away from your job.....eating on the go is fairly normal....too much carbohydrate and way too much sugar.....trust me lady....whenever my friends visit me from Switzerland......they ALWAYS gain weight during their visit.
Which is exactly why we prepare almost our food at home, from scratch. There is way too many additives in commercially prepared food. Our food might sometimes be boring, or prepared in batches on weekends but we know exactly what's in it. It's a lot cheaper too. Occasionally we have a meal out with friends or as a family and then it's a special treat and we take our time, eating whatever we want, and slowly.
I noticed how sweet the food was when I went to stay with friends in New York. My friend told me she had given up sugar but was shocked when I pointed out how sweet the food was, lots of hidden sugar!
Arlene is so right, the European counties have much stricter standards for their food! My mother and step-father recently lived in Switzerland for 4 years. When my mom went grocery shopping in Switzerland for the first time, one of the things she bought was 1 lb. of ground beef. When she got home and cooked it, she was surprised at how much it shrank. This is because there was less junk/fillers in the food! Our food has different kinds of added sugars (including one called high fructose corn syrup, because the government incentivizes farmers to grow corn) added soy, and many other kinds of additives and preservatives. Also, our soy and corn is mostly GMO. I have heard it said that Europe takes a precautionary approach to food regulations, while the U.S. approach is more reactive.
I was going to say the same thing. Examples: park in the farthest parking space instead of the closest; walk or bike (if you can) instead of driving; take the stairs instead of the elevator; etc. Keep moving!
My same rules and that’s why I am always slim. Well besides my height! I love fruits in the morning, vegetables and leaves, some protein (I hardly ever eat rice) water and always have a small dessert. Bread is a big temptation but try to eat it only in the morning. My portions are always small and I always buy my clothes the same size. When you buy more wide clothes you feel free to gain weight! I also have a glass of wine with every supper and as far as I’m concerned, that’s very good for your health and your happiness! For me a big plate full of food is an appetite suppressor. I don’t even have coffee on the go. Life and food are to be enjoyed but with moderation! Have a divine weekend Marie-Anne!
I love how you open the video reminding us to love ourselves. I've struggled with weight gain all my life. All great tips that I know, just so much harder to live out in the US where bad choices are so easy to grab everywhere. It comes down to self control which is hard when no one else is making the same choices.
Years ago I read an article that was called something like “how to eat like a French woman”. One thing I took to heart is It stated eat only three bites of the decadent foods. I have followed this advice for years. I am adding your advice on what and how you eat. You are so beautiful. Thank you for your advice. BTW: I love your kitchen range.
The best lesson I've learned is to SIT DOWN and to treat each meal with respect. Whatever you eat, plant or animal, something gave it life (or gave its life) so that you could eat. Take a minute to appreciate that. I've learned to regard each meal, even if it's only toast for breakfast or leftover soup for lunch, as an opportunity to sit down at the table and be thankful for what I have. I eat less this way but I enjoy it more. Some ice-water in a pretty glass is a nice touch, too.
Absolutely! Americans to often eat in front of the TV and don’t pay attention to how much they’re eating or when there full. My family always ate at the table. We also didn’t have soda in the house. Most Americans drink soda instead of water.
Addressing the weight and not adjusting the size is the key besides the others. Thanks for the lovely video as usual. You're close to hit that majic100k subs. You deserve it Marie-Anne.
I'm on board agreeing with others who stated how important it is to address weight gain IMMEDIATELY--- 'nipping it in the bud' when our clothes are BEGINNING to feel tight. Of course I have some items with leeway to accommodate 'a few extra pounds', and will wear these more frequently when the other things are a bit too snug. They're really comfortable, but in the back of my mind I KNOW to 'fix it now". It also helps me to hang a favorite garment in a very visible spot---one which fits when I'm at my best weight--as a pleasant reminder and motivator.
Yes Marie Ann you are correct, it does help if you can eat with people of the same mind set. It's hard to stick to a healthy diet when you are cooking for and eating with people who just want filling meals. 🌹
If you're doing the cooking, you get to control the menu. Chef's privileges. Nobody needs burgers, mac and cheese and pizza. I feed my kids fresh, healthy, unprocessed food almost always and treats only occasionally. If they need a snack, there is a fruit bowl. Sure they whine sometimes, but they eat what I offer. They also used to whine that we don't take them to school, sports practices and music lessons by car. They have bicycles and feet. My husband and I are thin and fit in our 50s and we agree that it's up to us to teach the kids how to eat properly so we don't set them up for weight and health problems later. It's much harder to break a bad habit than never start a bad habit.
Yes @sue chris, I agree with Susan Holl- I hope you are not catering to everyone else too much! Do you cook separate menus for everyone? Or, do you have to cook separately for yourself, because no one else wants what you are eating? Either situation, in my opinion, is too much to ask of yourself or any cook. As long as you are cooking balanced meals, then they can eat what you cook, my dear lady. In order for you to take care of your family, you need to be taken care of first, not the other way around.
Thank you for saying these things. It's so refreshing to hear the truth, especially the parts about not buying larger clothes, and taking care of the weight issue before it gets out of hand. This information feels so good because it feels like truth.
I don't quite know how to describe it - is it 'delivery'? This lady has one of the best visual looks on UA-cam - She NEVER says "what's up..." (I'm a bit tired of that universal UA-camr opening). She uses gestures, mbut not too forcefully - sometimes it looks like the Tuber is beating me to death. She varies her tone. She's pleasant and smiles, not too much. she has a lovely accent, although heavy, I can understand her. She speaks with authority and confidence, but not arrogance. No "uptalk" (shudder - ending like a question). and, although I'm older, I don't mind being lectured by a lovely mature lady, instead of a 25-year old who thinks she knows everything 😆. You're a joy to watch!
I absolutely love this message and thank you for acknowledging that there are overweight women everywhere. You absolutely charmed me with beginning with accepting yourself as I am working on this right now.
I really liked this video. You said "love your body. Love yourself for who you are no matter your shape and size". Can you delve into the topic of body image in one of your future videos? I feel it's a very important topic we don't talk about enough.
That's the best advice, address the weight gain right away! I have an entire walk-in closet of brand new never worn clothes, I need to shrink myself to wear. Time to follow Marie-Anne's advice as well as 'making friends' with my electric bike, to give me a kick up the britches when riding up steep hills. What a lovely lady you are Marie-Anne, both inside and out, addressing a sensitive issue without shaming anyone. Love it! I have to say your channel has quickly become one of my three favourites on UA-cam, excellent way to work on one's self improvement regardless of age!
I had to seriously tweak my habits as my metabolism slowed way down during peri menopause. I didn’t realize that I had begun eating like a French woman. And eliminating processed foods was the BEST decision I made.
From someone who was at a healthy weight until I became pregnant with my first child (health issues arose) down to such an unhealthy low weight due to stress, I feel like a roller coaster 🎢 in slow motion! New health issues are being addressed and my gained weight is s-l-o-w-l-y being lost by no snacks and the only good thing from my illness was I totally lost my taste for chocolate AND ice cream 🍦 so no desserts are appealing! Love 💕 all your tips and hope to reach my goal
Taking time to eat has made such a difference in my life. I used to eat in front of the tv or while in the car. Now I sit at the table, use my fancy dishes and cloth napkins and treat myself!
Merci beaucoup Marie-Anne. This is so helpful to get me back on track after some lockdown weight gain here in the UK. I will put these practices into action now 😊
Lesley, I’m just reading your reply from quarantine in HK (7/2022). This has been a good opportunity to lose the few pounds I put on traveling over the summer. We have had fresh produce to eat which is healthier than the meals provided and will be preferable to eat in the heat to cooked foods. I hope you had a great summer.
Love all these tips! The book you mentioned is excellent too. I learned that losing 5 lbs is hard enough let alone 10 or more. That's the only reason why I keep track of my weight. Once it hits my target max, I cut carbs.
I appreciate what you said about how weight gain can creep up on you and to address it right away instead of buying larger clothes. That is the key to maintaining your weight. I am intrigued by the glimpse of your kitchen behind you. I would love to see more of it.
Love these tips. I went to Paris for the first time 2 weeks ago. We popped across for the day on the Eurostar. Loved it, in fact we were there on Bastille Day. Ate in two lovely restaurants and boy maybe we just lucked up or are all your French waiters comedians. The waiters we had were so funny it just made the experience so much more fun. I walked away from Paris with great memories and I vow to return. Ooohh must not forget we went to Lafayette, woweeeeee what a building. The prettiest mall I have ever been too.
I ate like a horse and never had weight problems till I hit 60, then found I had to watch out a bit. I simply had to adjust my eating habits for my health as well as for my figure, and that's when your lovely video becomes really helpful to me. I love fresh food anyway, so it's not too difficult to follow. Thank you, Marie-Anne!
In the UK property prices have been so high for so long, every body has to rush the food because every body is working such long hours no time to sit and eat let alone stop to cook. Property prices have a lot to answer for. Also per Dr Fung and snacking, raises insulin every time you take a mouthful of whatever throughout the day, you will never loose weight if your body is processing more fuel and insulin. Agree with every thing you say Marie-Anne I wish the UK had more fresh food markets and people had more time for proper food :) thank you for all your vids they are 5*
I think you are SO RIGHT about Tip #10: it is incredibly challenging to eat mindfully and moderately in a food culture (American) that is all about big portions and over-indulging. It’s almost a badge of honor to eat whatever you want, as often as you want, as much as you want. It’s the U.S. ‘freedom’ psyche run amok in the food realm!!
Americans are constantly eating throughout the day. Much of our calories come from our indulgent coffee drinks and soda as well. Tip #11: watch your liquid calories (sugary coffees, teas, sodas, and alcohol).
I agree! I wish people would stop wanting big portions to get their money’s worth. It comes with a big price-soaring obesity rate. I don’t mind (and in fact prefer) small portions of quality food-I can’t stand gigantic portions of mediocre food. 😉
yes, i've worked in restaurants where we threw away half of the food left on plates.....i asked my boss about this and he said the potatoes etc., were so cheap and it made people feel they were getting a real bargain.....i seldom eat out now, but when i do, i'll ask for a to-go box at the beginning of the meal and put at least half in.
I think it is time to bring back the at home luncheons. Too often, going out with friends involves restaurant food. Inviting friends over to eat at your house allows you to choose the menu and ingredients. Besides, everybody appreciates quiche, a green salad, and a bowl of fresh fruit. You could even get fancy and make a pot of tea flavored with rose petals. It would even give you a chance to use Grandma's pretty china.
Another reason for not as many people being overweight is the amount of cigarette smokers in France. For some reason similar percentages of women in Montreal, Quebec smoke as well. Cigarettes smoking certainly curbs the appetite.
I just found your channel and am really enjoying your videos. I agree with avoiding processed foods and eliminating snacking. Four years ago I switched to a mostly carnivore way of eating. I usually eat 2 meals a day, cook at home, eat until I’m full. I am 64. After years of yo-yo dieting and eventually autoimmune issues, eating carnivore has healed my body and my weight stays the same. I look and feel the best I have felt in years. Thank you for your inspiring videos. 🙏
I think the best advice was in regards to watching weight gain. I have a few very expensive classic evening gowns (buy quality and it lasts) that I've had for decades and they still fit perfectly. I'm frugal, and I abhor the idea of buying clothes because the ones I have no longer fit me, so the instant my belt or pants feel a bit "snug" I take action.
Portion control is the primary thing for me. I tend to avoid restaurants anymore as even the “appetizers” are huge. Between processed food and larger and larger portions the “fattening of America” is taking place. Television food ads support that too. I do enjoy your videos and especially listening to your speaking voice. Thank you.
My trick is to view all the brightly-colored packages and bakery items in the supermarket as illness-producing corporate products. I avert my eyes and buy my produce, meats, cheeses and butter from the perimeter, and quickly dart into the toxic aisles only to get dried legumes, canned tomato products and whole beans, olive oil, vinegar, and spices. 🙂
You mention that French women (and men) eat fresh food and shop often. I lived in Paris for a while, and one thing that struck me was that kitchens in Parisian apartments do not have space for very much food. Also, if you do not have a car or someone to help you carry your groceries, you can only buy so much at a time. In America, we tend to drive to the supermarket, buy food that is put in a shopping cart, then placed in bags, and the bags are then put in the car for the trip home. The kitchen at home is typically on the first floor and has plenty of storage space, especially for foods needing refrigeration or freezing. So it is easy to shop for a week or more. It's a lot easier, but the food is not as fresh. I loved shopping at the market in Paris, especially at the ones on Rue Montorgueil, were there were so many different options -- fresh vegetables, fresh seafood, fresh meats, fresh breads, ahhhh!
What wonderful content....Please do a series on other aspects of French life too..such as weddings ,what all ceremonies do you have during weddings, how do french women deal with stress?? Etc..
Thanks. Very useful. I live on my own and eat most of my meals alone so it is rarely a social event. Think I will get out the posh cutlery and table napkins more often to create more of an occasion. Sue UK ps I agree with addressing weight gain immediately and try to do this as and when extra pounds go on (usually as a result of snacking!)
Oh I simply love your advice and the way you put it! I wish to keep you by my side! In Malta we tend to eat more than necessary though there is a drive to promote healthy eating. I keep a dress and a pair of trousers as my size guide.... if they do not fit well then I am in trouble - I just know i have to watch what I eat. Thank you so much for your videos - I love them!
ah Marie -Anne ...it all makes sense but sadly I did not address no 8 soon enough but I am now eating smaller portions ...I have cut out processed food including bread and it is all going very well. I will persevere and be very glad to donate half of my over sized wardrobe to one of the many charity shops here .... It will be a joy to have my old wardrobe back as it is full of classic jackets etc .....back to my old self by Christmas God willing. Thank you and God bless Gilly
Great video Marie-Anne! 👍 I personally think the main reason or one of the main reason is also quality fat, no fat is bad, too much synthetic fat is even worse. No soda, no processed sugary snacking, as you mentioned, quality food, clean food, where are the sources from is one of the key. A lot of people today do not know where their food comes from, or what is in the actual ingredients. Thanks for your input. x
I have one skirt that I really like and it's my barometer of acceptable weight. If and when the waistband starts to get tight I cut back on sweets and alcohol a bit. Every person I have told this to has acted like I was crazy or on the verge of an eating disorder (I'm American and at a healthy weight).
Marie-Anne,, I am amazed that the things you are sharing about eating are so similar with what I learned growing up in China. The only difference might be French food vs. Chinese food. I moved to US as an adult and married and had a family. The eating habits between three of us are so different under one roof. I eat most Chinese or Asian food, lots of vegetable, lightly cooked, lots of fish/sea food, and some meat. My husband is of Irish/German /French descendant. He loves meat, heavy cream based sauce, chips, bread etc... My daughter loves all processed food, snacks all the time. Teachers give sugary snacks as award when she does well for projects or wins debate competition! The result is I am skinny and easily maintain a healthy weight. I swim 2 or 3 times a week, about 45min every time. That is it. My husband goes to GYM three times a week and do intensive weight training for over an hour every time, and closely monitors his weight. He struggles , and tries to cut back on snacks. My daughter was chubby when she was little. Then when she hit teenage age, she became very self-conscious of her body. She struggles with her weight, tries to eat like me, but couldn't resist the American food. We started bringing her to GYM to exercise regularly. She has become fitter and leaner, but still struggles all the time as she loves chips, bread and all cookies. When she doesn't pay attention during holidays, she gains weight easily. My family is a good example of how eating differently leads to different results. We are trying to counter the unhealthy eating/food with regular exercise , it seems to work , but hard work. Do you exercise regularly? Do French people like to go to GYM regularly?
One of the secrets is that you have lunch early. I lived in France for a year in my 20s and I was never so slim. I like an early lunch and I am more hungry in the middle of the day. When I go on holidays to France, I adopt their rhythms, and I never put on weight. At home in Ireland, my school breaks for lunch at 1.15, which I find too late. Btw, in Ireland, Subway bread is classed as cake, and taxed at a different level because of the amount of sugar in it. The case went all the way to our Supreme Court!
I have addressed our eating habits and we have eliminated our evening big meal and shifted it to the lunch time. We have veggies with dip or yogurt and fruit with bran buds for supper time. We don't eat after 8pm and have cut way down on desserts and snacks by turning the need to snack in front of the TV into a healthy veggie (no crisps) snack. I am still too big but I feel much better in the morning. Not bloated. Walking also helps.
I have lost 30lbs of 2020 Covid weight gain, since Feb 2021 by being mindful of everything I put in my mouth. I use Weight Watcher app to help me log everything related to Their points system. That said, Marie Anne you are so correct in your description of how French women eat because in revamping my eating habits via WW I have come to eat as you describe the eating habits of French women. NO PROCESSED FOODS Very few carbs Lots of water. Very little sugar Small portions Lots of fruits and vegetables. Proteins What we miss here in the US is the Like minded people who eat like this. Thank you for your vlogs.
I use weight watchers too but the old system of calorie counting. They have lots of good recipes which are our favorite foods made less fattening. I use Erythritol in place of sugar. I read this is the safest sugar substitute. I’m 2.5# from my goal and I’m going to maintain that weight and not lose anymore That way I’ll be at the highest range of normal BMI. Im 74 and I think it isn’t good to get too thin at this age I drink almond milk instead of milk. It’s very high in calcium and good for the bones and only 30 cal/cup . I check the calorie count of all foods and watch portion sizes I’m never hungry eating this way. I don’t snack anymore and rarely go to a fast food restaurant or any restaurant for that matter I also limit salt intake. I feel better too a little thinner
Bonjour Marie Anne, being married with French has let me acquired all of these, (French culture when it comes to food and eating). Also, my Husband being athlétique he influenced me how to have a good régime but I like it.
Just a comment on point #10. Be very careful that you don't use this one as an excuse where you translate it to, "it's my husband's or my kids' fault that I can't lose weight". The point is to acknowledge the obstacle and choose to tackle it, not to blame others or act like a victim. I had a family member like this and I myself have used this excuse in the past to not get healthy. But, the truth is that I was making excuses. I finally limited the snack food in the house to only a few favorites that aren't tempting to me. I cook healthy meals and if everyone else wants extra bread or dessert, they can jump in the car and go enjoy a special treat without me afterwards. My eldest are in university, living at home still. If they want junk food, they keep it in their rooms. I've even gotten over the "people pleasing" when friends come for dinner. I serve what we eat, not any sugary, carb heavy, or processed food that I think would please them.♥️🇨🇦
I have had almost the same experience. I am off bread for a while now. Its a very healthy bread with lots of grain, like chia seeds etc, which my hubby loves (he has no weight problem, I might add😄). Glad to say it has had a good effect on me. Does not bother me at all now that he enjoys the chia bread. Best part is, I have no cravings for bread anymore. Cheers 🇨🇭🥳.
Another secret i could add to your list even though i am not French myself is that French women and French people in general walk a lot during the day .They do not use cars or public transport so much
Excellent advice, Marie-Anne. Keeping slim takes discipline, and some people are not willing to do that. They often make excuses for their bad eating habits, and have hateful attitudes toward those who are slim. I think the point you make about loving your body no matter what size you are is so important, and, if you are not satisfied with it, DO something about it and make changes. The goal of maintaining your weight should be to achieve good health and happiness, not just to fit into a smaller size.💃
You look stunning! These tips are excellent, is the no snacking rule something you adhere to always? Would you eat a handful of dried fruit in the late afternoon if u really felt too? I will try and follow these tips - I’m already doing most of them 😊
My mother always told me to always sit at a table to eat. This sends a message that you are actually eating are are more mindful of the food. So often I see people wandering along the streets eating and window shopping or talking on their phone. Those calories aren't registered, except in weight gain.
We are so isolated and lonely in the United States. Many of us eat alone. I cannot even imagine how lovely it must be to be surrounded by community. I think the solution to the problem in the U.S. is bigger than one person. Thank you for being inspiring and upbeat! You're enjoyable and fun.
Drinking water all day is great but yesterday, in the extreme heat in NJ, I was lugging heavy equipment around, and I got heat cramps and gassy. So I had to relax and am increasing my intake of Gatorade to replenish my electrolytes.
@@MsBackstager Be aware artificial sweeteners spike insulin just as sugar does, and also kill your intestinal flora. That would certainly result in gas.
@@MsBackstager Coconut water is very good for you, but it has sugar, too. I read it has half the amount as Gatorade. It’s not good to ingest sugar, even fruit, without fat to slow down the absorption and reduce insulin spike. Idk whether the LCHF topic interests you. I found this recipe for electrolyte water on Healthline. Makes 4 servings (Serving size 1 cup) 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 cup lemon juice 1/4 cup lime juice 1 1/2 cups unsweetened coconut water 2 cups cold water Basically, a small glass with half coconut water and half plain water, a pinch of salt, and squeeze two wedges of citrus. Pretty low-tech for all of Gatorade’s bragging and marketing. 🙂
Excellent. But Marianne concealed two secrets: a glass of wine (preferably red) during the meal and some stinky unpasteurized cheese (full of digestive enzymes) after the meal!!!!!
I am a size 12/14. I've been much larger and much smaller. I no longer diet but enjoy my life and what I eat. I do eat on a small plate. It's just more pleasing to my eye.
So right. I think many people have become disconnected with food. As a family we have always enjoyed cooking and eating, I can’t ever recall sitting in front of the tv and having a meal. By cutting out regular snacking it makes the occasional coffee and cake or in Devon, cream tea something very special.
My grandmother always gave me great advice. About weight she said once you’re at a weight you feel good at never think about losing weight just think about maintaining it. If you go up 2-3 pounds be extra diligent about your choices for a few days and you’ll back to your happy weight.
Excellent advice Marie. Love your videos.

Related to that - if you are going to a special place for an event and you know that there will be certain foods or desserts you just can't resist or will want seconds of, fast a little a day or two before and maybe a day or two after to compensate and it will all even out.
@@marilynbartlett1850 Great tip!!

As one who has calorie counted for many years I can totally attest to that.

Every time we eat protein or carbohydrate with spike insulin. Insulin resistance lays down a lot of visceral fat.
American companies add sugar and other addictive ingredients to make you buy more
You are so right saying that we need to address any weight gain immediately.
French people do not eat fast food. The bread thing is another issue, for sure.
I would add tip #11: French women and others who maintain good weight and health do a lot of walking. Get off your derriere and walk, walk, walk!
I was going to say the same thing. Examples: park in the farthest parking space instead of the closest; walk or bike (if you can) instead of driving; take the stairs instead of the elevator; etc. Keep moving!
Absolutely, I was sure it would be one of the 10 secrets
You are a right. I majored in science and you NEED to make that ATP. That means MOVE MOVE MOVE!
@@Caroline_T Caroline, what is ATP?

I like that!
Absolutely! Americans to often eat in front of the TV and don’t pay attention to how much they’re eating or when there full. My family always ate at the table. We also didn’t have soda in the house. Most Americans drink soda instead of water.
I'm Italian and we follow the same rules as French women. All your tips work- great video!
We always eat at the table. It's very important for family time and support. ❤
🙏
Great tips! The only comment I have is that during menopause the body changes, and the middle becomes thicker with or without weight gain. 🥺
So true. I'm experiencing that now, and it's incredibly frustrating. I've lost my waistline.
Thank you for saying these things. It's so refreshing to hear the truth, especially the parts about not buying larger clothes, and taking care of the weight issue before it gets out of hand. This information feels so good because it feels like truth.
I don't quite know how to describe it - is it 'delivery'? This lady has one of the best visual looks on UA-cam -
She NEVER says "what's up..." (I'm a bit tired of that universal UA-camr opening).
You're a joy to watch!
small portions are really of crucial importance! and you look really beautiful today Marie Anne, and the kitchen behind you is so impressive
I absolutely love this message and thank you for acknowledging that there are overweight women everywhere. You absolutely charmed me with beginning with accepting yourself as I am working on this right now.
I read Anne Barone’s book Chic & Slim way back in 1997. Very same principles in her book and I am glad I started good French inspired habits long ago!
So nice to hear that ❤
Bonjour de Québec, merci bien pour vos belles vidéos
I really liked this video. You said "love your body. Love yourself for who you are no matter your shape and size". Can you delve into the topic of body image in one of your future videos? I feel it's a very important topic we don't talk about enough.
‘PLEASE’ is the magic word Adam. Can you please delve… not Can you delve…
Yes, please. I struggle so much with body image issues. I have since I was twelve or thirteen.
Merci beaucoup 🤗
Your message here is so full of good common sense...and simple. You have inspired me.
I had to seriously tweak my habits as my metabolism slowed way down during peri menopause. I didn’t realize that I had begun eating like a French woman. And eliminating processed foods was the BEST decision I made.
I would suggest losing seed oils as well.
Your tip of not upsizing clothes is excellent.
I will put these practices into action now 😊
I feel exactly the same here in the U.S. Bon chance!
I’ve been following many of your suggestions and have had a lot of success. Merci Marie-Anne!
Love all these tips! The book you mentioned is excellent too. I learned that losing 5 lbs is hard enough let alone 10 or more. That's the only reason why I keep track of my weight. Once it hits my target max, I cut carbs.
Thank you for the tips👌
Yes,my grandparents were French and my grandfather used to say"only horses eat standing up" lol
I appreciate what you said about how weight gain can creep up on you and to address it right away instead of buying larger clothes. That is the key to maintaining your weight. I am intrigued by the glimpse of your kitchen behind you. I would love to see more of it.
This is why I seldom wear my jeans. No new jeans if I can't fit into the old ones!
@@MarieAnneLecoeur oh yes, cannot wait to visit again and maybe explore some of the countryside.
@@MarieAnneLecoeur yes for sure. 😊 👍🏻 it would just be nice if the culture would catch up to what’s healthy, instead of glorifying over-indulgence.
Americans are constantly eating throughout the day. Much of our calories come from our indulgent coffee drinks and soda as well. Tip #11: watch your liquid calories (sugary coffees, teas, sodas, and alcohol).
In other words be mindful, and don't let your "muffin top" become a "bundt cake"!
Not a delic way to go. :(
😂😂😂
hahahahaha 😅 ... oh my goodness. So true!
Cute and Clever!! And SO RIGHT!!!! :)
😆👍🏻
The American portions of food you get restaurants are huge, I always divide it in half and only eat that. Not snacking is really important too 👍🏼
True! The XXL "culture" has a lot to answer for. Stay away from gigantic hamburgers and 50-inch pizzas!
I liked your video. It was helpful. Good Job!! Happy Holidays!
These are valuable tips for good health and good looks
Marie-Anne, you are 100% correct. Every thing you said about weight is true.
Excellent! Thank you! And I love your tee and blazer. Thank you for your curated links in the description box as well:)
Etc..
I love your "top 10" video's !! Easy, fun and fast ! Thank you.
I am going to borrow that great tip from you....thank you!
ah Marie -Anne ...it all makes sense but sadly I did not address no 8 soon enough but I am now eating smaller portions ...I have cut out processed food including bread and it is all going very well.
I will persevere and be very glad to donate half of my over sized wardrobe to one of the many charity shops here ....
It will be a joy to have my old wardrobe back as it is full of classic jackets etc .....back to my old self by Christmas God willing.
Thank you and God bless

You go girl!!!
Thank you for your tips.
Very helpful tips, thank you.
Great video Marie-Anne! 👍
I personally think the main reason or one of the main reason is also quality fat, no fat is bad, too much synthetic fat is even worse.

What are mild calisthenics, please?
One of the secrets is that you have lunch early. I lived in France for a year in my 20s and I was never so slim. I like an early lunch and I am more hungry in the middle of the day. When I go on holidays to France, I adopt their rhythms, and I never put on weight. At home in Ireland, my school breaks for lunch at 1.15, which I find too late. Btw, in Ireland, Subway bread is classed as cake, and taxed at a different level because of the amount of sugar in it. The case went all the way to our Supreme Court!
Great video Marie-Anne! I think these 10 tips are very helpful in maintaining one's figure, as they've worked for me.
I use Weight Watcher app to help me log everything related to
Their points system.
That said, Marie Anne you are so correct in your description of how French women eat because in revamping my eating habits via WW I have come to eat as you describe the eating habits of French women.
NO PROCESSED FOODS
Very few carbs
Lots of water.
Very little sugar
Small portions
Lots of fruits and vegetables.
Proteins
What we miss here in the US is the
Like minded people who eat like this.
I would wager that most people's Covid weight gain is from snacking, more than meals.
@@alcogito8287 no really just snacking. I cooked & baked allot! I baked breads and wonderful cakes. It was great but completely bad for my weight.
Good job! I’ve lost 25 since December. Let’s keep it off!
Thank you for getting to the point quickly!
Thank you!! 🎄 Check the mariachis in the background.

Good but loads of sugar in gatorade, check the label.
@@maryokeefe5351 True, but I get the NO SUGAR variety with zero calories. It's good to think ahead.
@@MsBackstager Be aware artificial sweeteners spike insulin just as sugar does, and also kill your intestinal flora. That would certainly result in gas.
@@genxx2724 How about drinking coconut water?
@@MsBackstager Coconut water is very good for you, but it has sugar, too. I read it has half the amount as Gatorade. It’s not good to ingest sugar, even fruit, without fat to slow down the absorption and reduce insulin spike. Idk whether the LCHF topic interests you.
I found this recipe for electrolyte water on Healthline.
Makes 4 servings (Serving size 1 cup)
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup lime juice
1 1/2 cups unsweetened coconut water
2 cups cold water
Basically, a small glass with half coconut water and half plain water, a pinch of salt, and squeeze two wedges of citrus. Pretty low-tech for all of Gatorade’s bragging and marketing. 🙂
Excellent. But Marianne concealed two secrets: a glass of wine (preferably red) during the meal and some stinky unpasteurized cheese (full of digestive enzymes) after the meal!!!!!

So right. I think many people have become disconnected with food. As a family we have always enjoyed cooking and eating, I can’t ever recall sitting in front of the tv and having a meal. By cutting out regular snacking it makes the occasional coffee and cake or in Devon, cream tea something very special.
