I think this is very healthy. Bit I also think it's really unhealthy that when you go to a bistro in France you'll be the only person eating lunch while others smoke their cigarette lunch and wash it down with alcohol. For me eating also includes the environment, for example not passive smoking.

As a French native I will happily share our real secret, although you have done and are doing a great job, all of your tips are part of the French lifestyle but the main one is to chew longer. Somehow the French do it and I think that's because we do indeed savor every bite as we treasure food but the reason it works so well is because saliva is the first digestive process your body starts, then food goes down to the your stomach and the rest of the digestive system where all kinds of fluids are there to take care of breaking down the food but it cannot do this properly if you swallow your food too fast and does not let your saliva prepare/pre digest the food for your intestines etc. On top of this, when you chew longer you eat less because you are more satisfied. Nature is very smart!
Find a way to chew longer and you will see the difference in your approach to food, your digestion improving and overall great feeling!
    Enjoy!

I was married to a Frenchman, and lived in Cannes and Paris for 4 years. My husband harassed me to lose weight, lose weight, be thin, show your cheekbones. I ended up weighing about 112lbs. The middle and upper class women in the Cities attempted to remain stick thin to wear Couturier style clothes and appear elegant. Sad to say, many of the Frenchmen I knew had younger mistresses, so the wives were driven by the competition. Meanwhile in the countryside and small provincial towns, the women were naturally well rounded.

Your ex husband is so dumb. If he wanted a stick, why did he choose to marry someone that isn't French?
It's not about your weight. He just wanted to lower your self esteem. Because French women are gorgeous, yet their "husbands", STILL have mistresses.
It has nothing to do with you, it has everything to do with him. 💁‍♀️

I think the French have it all right....food should be a celebration to be enjoyed with others or even alone.....not mindlessly consumed.
Your table is set beautifully. I love having my food on a gorgeous setting and I am alone.
I've been seeing this phrase on alot of foods lately...including restaurant portions "a thoughtful portion". I saw it on some frozen foods also.
I think if we look at Americans Super Sized fast food industry it's easy to see why Americans are heavier than they have ever been in history.

I believe just being simple is key. I am 50 and just about every teenager I pass start talking to me like I’m their age. I’ve been this same size since high school due to fasting and cooking basic healthy along with eating raw vegetables 🥦 🥕 🥗 & juicing and never been on medication for anything except a painkiller when my wisdom tooth was pulled. Many people are emotional eaters and feeding into social media, constructs, trends and behaviors causes people to be distracted and then use food to soothe all this information that bombards snd clouds their judgment concerning themselves because they compare themselves to everyone and everything. It is simple and love how you refer to your setup when eating. It’s everything because it contributes to the detoxification of your well-being. Being conscious and living in the moment helps me enjoy the moment more than the food although the taste 👅 is palatable. Being healthy mentally, emotionally, spiritually aids in being healthy physically. Of course, all the tips you have provided are fabulous and true. Thanks for sharing!

Bea, I think we are all guilty of over eating sometimes. Or even guilty of emotional eating when we are not really hungry. It’s just important, at least for me, to think of eating and food and my relationship to food in a different way. If you start pushing yourself away when you’re full and perhaps using smaller plates for your food you will be surprised that you really will start to lose weight. Best of luck and I know you can do it.❤️

Thank you, Sandra, for your wonderful tips! Keeping weight down is a struggle after menopause; however, I realized that I've always been an "emotional eater". I've been cutting the"bad" carbs and exercising every evening...nothing strenuous, just hand weights and resistance bands. Now, even though I dislike exercise, I find that I miss doing my little workout, if I don't! It's actually shown some positive results. It takes longer, and it's more work when we're older, but, it does feel good. I believe we must be proactive in trying to stay healthy. Blessings to you and Arthur...be well and safe! 🙂

Hi Sandra. You shared some great advice! I agree with all these suggestions. As I mentioned to you before, we are renovating an old apartment, here in Georgia (Europe). Our new place will have a fitness room and we already work out there, 5 days a week. I will also be making a goal to set a beautiful table, like you have, for sharing our meals together. Right now, in this other apartment, we don't have a dining table and have to sit on the coach, and lean over a coffee table. We also are watching our programs on the laptop, while we eat. That will change when we move in our apartment, this spring. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos, every Tuesday.

Thank you kindly for these reminders, Sandra. I'm guilty of eating on a TV tray but it's not fun to do a cute table for just ones self. My weight gain during the pandemic has been significant and at 71, it's become another battle. I'm very petite so the weight gain appears even more on me.
Any theories why do we Americans eat so fast? I cannot do so when I eat with others it can become a problem. I love the way many European countries actually dine. Any solutions for what to do/say when those with you have simply shoveled their food in like it will disappear? -;)) Actually I'm serious.
I absolutely agree on fasting at least one day per week. It just makes me feel better and isn't difficult. You've inspired me to eat more salads again. The weekend markets with fabulous fresh veggies will be happening soon again, I hope. As usual, you inspire me to take better care of myself. We appreciate you more than you realize I think. Have a wonderful week.

I know it sounds absolutely silly to set a nice placemat and pretty dishes out for just one. But I have found that if I turn on some nice music that gets my mood calmed, I can enjoy eating alone. Even if you still eat on your tray, make it more like dining with a nice plate or cloth napkin. You might just find yourself expanding to the table with a setting where you can dine instead of just eating. Put on your favorite music. Turn off the tv whole you are eating. Experiment with the pleasure of eating. Just that this time to slow down and enjoy the experience. I honestly don’t know why so many people do eat so fast like they’re not going to have another meal. It’s a mystery to me.❤️

I can truly relate with you. I'm soon to be 72 and believe that I look round! Those 18 months of no exercise and having to be lazy acting, really got to me! Also the sickness was terrible! I'm starting over again, it seems. I know that we will never look 50 again ,but must not be gloomy. We are made partakers of this Earth in which we live and we are responsible to God for the way we take care of ourselves. That in itself is a good reason to press onward, striving for self improvement.

Love your advice. I need to work on eating slower and controlling my food intake. I mean I don't have a huge appetite but, I am working on drinking more water and so far it has proven it's results. I've lost a few inches off my waste. I'm not as tired and I don't crash in the evenings. I make smoothies and I strive to use fresh fruits and veggies and all natural ingredients. Drinking these drinks make a difference. Plus, I strive to exercise daily. That means walking everyday on my fifteen minute breaks at work and if it's to hot or cold outdoors I'll go to the gym and let's not forget vitamins. Taking a vitamin with a meal everyday helps too and make time to rest and do something for yourself and try to stay off of social media if you can help it.

Keto diet for me -- with lots of fresh vegetables. I had to toss out my scales in the ʻ90s because I was way too obsessed with my weight at that time. I learned then to monitor my weight by how my clothes fit. I have no idea what I weigh now, but I do know that before discovering keto in 2016-2017 I was a size 18-20 and now Iʻm a 6-8, the thinnest Iʻve been since 6th grade. I lost the weight and have kept it off since 2018.

@@lifewithsandrahart Thank you for your support!! Not only is it the weight; I lost the pain. I was in 100% total body pain in January 2016. I couldnʻt move a muscle without pain, couldnʻt walk my dog for very long, had no stamina, couldnʻt bend over to pick up after him without so much pain it almost brought me to tears, every time. I had all of the telltale signs of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes -- and now I have zero pain, great flexibility, my endurance has improved, and no signs whatsoever of insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes. The weight loss was kind of a side effect of getting healthy! It was all the sugar and grains and fast food I had eaten for my whole life that was the culprit. I got rid of those completely and got rid of the pain. I NEVER want to go back to feeling that way, ever again!!

Excellent video, dear Sandra. I live in France and indeed one's figure's best friends are 2 pieces of furniture : a chair and a table. Never eat standing or spread out on a couch, or worse in the street. Lay a proper table, have 3 meals a day. No snacking in between either, except at 4 o'clock tea with a tiny finger sandwich or some almonds. Never eat while watching tv nor listening to the news , if need be, you can turn on some light music (in France Radio Classique or France Musique). I've never been to a fast food in my life. Finally the last advice, at home or at restaurants always leave feeling , not precisely hungry, but that you could've have done with one or two more bites: and that's exactly those that would have bloated you. Have the satisfaciton to feel light and not have to undo your belt !

Hi Sandra, I love your necklace! Oh Sandra, I break so many of those rules, I am a terrible eater! I eat very fast and I stand while eating because I am usually doing something else like opening mail, cleaning the counter, etc. growing up my family ate fast and my dad would hold his plate in his hands while walking about the house. I never pick up a piece of fruit except grapes and I love sweets. The only thing I do right is exercise and that is in the form of walking 5 miles a day and dancing throughout my day in the house. I know I need to start doing the things you talked about and it will be a great challenge for me but I need to try. I think it is about time for me to grow up in these areas!
