Was really happy to see you put that scene with the spartans, really shows that they have a heart underneath their armor. Unlike in other types of media.
A lot of them are pretty jaded. The games tend to show the exceptions, but 90% of a Spartan deployment during the war was retreating, at some point, you tend to just forget the individual planet and cities being glassed, because you’ve seen it all before, and you’ll see it all again, and caring about each and every one will destroy you, so you “ignore it”.
This video makes me emotional as Reach did. Perhaps Spartans were designed as emotioness war machines, but I can feel their grief when they saw those slaughtered civilians and soldiers. This is something rarely displayed in the Halo series. This also reminds me of what Cpt Lasky said at the end of Halo 4 "Soldiers aren't machine, we are just people".

On a second note this is great example of how to humanize the Spartans. The scene where they find the boddies and its just the spartans together, allowing them to open up to one another for a breif moment, acknoledging the toll that the loss of life has on them, and then as soon as the marines enter the picture its back to the stoic and mission centric leadership that has made them into legends in the eyes of the common Marine. There's a few other nods to the spartans relationship to one another that shows so much chemistry and world building beyond what we've been shown in a few of the other WIPs and I just simply love the narative, the cinematography, its all just, Wow. Again amazing work here.
God I love this. A quiet, more somber moment to break up the action. Here the empathy of the spartans is shown, while the marines are given a moment to show their own importance in the grand scale of the war. No long drawn out dialogue or overreactions needed. This is what people want.
It’s incredible how you’ve managed to capture exactly what I’ve always dreamt of wanting from halo. Grounded combat and none of the “everyone’s a spartan now!” Where the odsts and troopers actually get proper spotlight. I can’t wait to see this complete
I just wanna take a moment to say how much I love the sound design in these videos. It doesn't sound muddied or too busy. It really reminds me of the Bungie Halo games where each sound was purposeful and added to the cutscene. I feel like the newer games' sound design is too busy in the cutscenes. Every time a spartan is walking, it sounds like a bag of loose armor pieces jostling around.
The atmosphere and world building is amazing it's nice seeing things that actual military personal woulf do and it's nice seeing a sort of "band of brothers" and "the pacific" vibe being put into action in this animation it really brings more life into the halo universe and if this were a TV show I would watch it and it's really nice seeing the spartans feel greif when they see civilians getting slaughtered keep up the good work SODAZ your doing amazing
I love how the voices are lines from Reach and Infinite. Not to mention how just like Reach, most if not all of the UNSC branches are seen here. I love it!
I really love the detail that all the characters have a different gait, and a different walking sound depending on their armor. Such a nice little detail.
I like how they realistically couldn't take survivors because they were heading into an active warzone but he tells them the closest place they can take survivors. Nice touch there.
It hits harder when you think about how the pilot could make a judgment call and divert their aircraft away from combat in order to evacuate civilians in desperate need of medical attention. It could easily be a justified reason for him to fly away from the danger of battle while still contributing to the protection of his people. But no... The pilot told them they could not evacuate them, meaning he felt that whatever mission they were going into in that war zone, was too important to ignore. He said no to helping dozens of lives and sparing himself from danger because he believed that the cost of abandoning his combat mission was much higher.
I really loved it when the spartan didn’t take off his helmet to show he was sad. You can hear it in his voice and the way he picked himself back up to continue. Love it.
I really love the emphasis on body language. In the scene with the pelican, you can see the pilot emphasize and briefly consider the med evac, but he quickly hardens his pose as duty takes over and he must continue with his fighter mission to win the war and prevent more losses in the future. The soldier slumps his shoulder hearing the medical triage location, knowing the distance is extremely far and the wounded will most likely expire before reaching the proper medical aid.
Wouldn't Contrast make it looking "fruity"? I haven't messed around with contrast in awhile on much of anything. But last time I did, it made every color super vibrant, I don't like the idea of halo 5 or Infinite color palette.
@@CT--hb7hs in my experience editing photos and videos, increasing the contrast exaggerates shadows a bit more which I think is good for dark settings/themes such as this. The saturation however can stay as is bc it would make the video too “fun” in a way. Contrast can make colors slightly more vibrant but in this case it wouldn’t destroy the product by making it bright. It would do good in making darks dark but keep some color integrity
You even captured the somber tone of odst and reach and used the music perfectly. I hope they put you in charge the next time they try to make a halo show
There are no words that I can say that haven’t been said already, countless times but believe me when I say that when this Halo fan animation is finished it will be one of the best fan animations ever, you are doing amazing work.
It just keeps on getting better and better with each new video. Isn't anyone going to mention how well the audio conveys the tension and urgency during the pelican flight? By far my favorite part.
I really love the teamwork here. The spartans are monsters in combat but they aren't the most subtle or numerous enough to cover ground. The marines are more numerous and are better at scouting than the spartans. Also the interaction between the pilot and the marine was really nice, they both helped eachother where they could in a professional manner
I'll never understand how a mulit-million dollar show can manage to make worse content than a single youtube animator. The music, visual representation of spartans/marines/ODST, and overall tone is phenomenal. This is everything I ever wanted from these big companies free right here on youtube. Great work.
I can't get over the fact that he gives each branch their own moments, Marines on the frontlines and ODST's taking on Special Operations similarly to Spartans and performing extremely well due to their training. We never got much of the ODST's aside from one game and Expanded Media, it's nice to see them back and performing just as in the books; Professional and Fast.
This is what happens when raw talent is backed up by immense technical skills. I can't wait for the whole project to be finished and watch it in its entirety.
Incredible animation. Such realistic/human movements! When the green spartan was walking backwards then turns forwards, you can see the spartan take a short/half step to distribute the weight while turning. Little details like that are a small part of what makes these animations wonderful and a joy to watch!
Love the nod to Halo ODST with the ODST trooper looking upwards as raindrops hit his helmet. I also enjoyed how you made the Spartans human when they saw the dead civilians. From the clues, I think this story took place during the Fall of Reach in another section of the planet.
When a Fan made video with Minimal voice acting and only 2 minutes long does such a better job at telling a story then a big ticket TV show that's supposed to be based off the series and manages to blow them out of the water. In other words Good Job SODAZ, you've have done a fantastic job and should be proud of it!
This is one of the things I want in a Halo game. Just this opening of one of the missions where all you hear is the eerie silence, the rain drops and the distant gunfire in the background. Making you feel someone relieved to be out of battle atm but still know danger could be anywhere at the same time. then you find an event like this
"What can I say, it was one hell of a night" No but in all honesty this whole animation series has been just pure gold. It truly is crazy how fantastic this series is. Can't wait to see more!
I like how the pilot of the pelican stopped to think for a minute when he heard the trooper say that they have survivors, I think he want to help them but he couldn't due to his order but what i like mostly was to give them coordinates of where.they should go to
I remember Iron Fist. They were a pelican dropship tasked with transporting Spartan II teams into combat with Covenant forces on Reach. Besides the IIs, a whole Spartan III team got wiped out by a glassing beam. Amidst of it all? A team of UNSC Army Sappers came under heavy fire from several incoming Covenant armored divisions. They ran out of rockets and were in desperate need of reinforcements and fire support. I don’t know if they made it out alive, but it’s likely they didn’t.
Dude I’m glad that you do these WIP it’s a real change of pace to many other animators where they drop off the face of the earth for a few and then come back it’s a joy seeing you post
Tiny detail but I adore how the spartans sound when they move. They sound exactly how a walking 1-ton suit of armour should. I've heard less believable movement sounds in official Halo media
This guy is doing what the people in charge of the show did not. This guy is taking something that he knows will work and knows people are passionate about and animating it. He is giving us an actual halo experience.
Duuudddeee! You never cease to amaze me!! I get so lost in your work. The world building you do is so immersive. It’s insane and the attention to detail is phenomenal!
I really liked the Spartan dialogue here. Even if it was reused marine/trooper dialogue from Reach, the "There was... So many..." line really hit home with the body language.
I do not know if you were inspired by it, but the pelicans flying through anti-aircraft fire at night time heavily reminds me of a scene from the HBO mini-series "Band of Brothers." The tale of Easy Company, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne in their journey through WW2. The scene in questions shows all the airborne troopers dropping at night time during the night before D-Day. It was absolutely beautiful to see something similar done with the pelicans. Absolutely love the work you're doing, and I only hope you get the recognition you deserve. I know your stint with Warhammer 40k content was short lived and you did not deserve the treatment you got from GW, but I hope Halo animation is going to be a bight stared opportunity for you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for giving Halo some love.
Absolutely stunning beautiful. The transition from the team to the ODST taking in the surroundings with the sad emotional music just gives ya that unexplainable feeling. Absolutley love these and excited to see more

Sodaz has really brought back the memories of playing Halo reach for the first time and I never knew how much I needed that
I really loved it when the spartan didn’t take off his helmet to show he was sad.
I love these WIPs but I think it would look a ton better with increased contrast and saturation. Nothing too extreme tho
Wouldn't Contrast make it looking "fruity"? I haven't messed around with contrast in awhile on much of anything. But last time I did, it made every color super vibrant, I don't like the idea of halo 5 or Infinite color palette.
Uh no it’s perfect
@@CT--hb7hs in my experience editing photos and videos, increasing the contrast exaggerates shadows a bit more which I think is good for dark settings/themes such as this. The saturation however can stay as is bc it would make the video too “fun” in a way. Contrast can make colors slightly more vibrant but in this case it wouldn’t destroy the product by making it bright. It would do good in making darks dark but keep some color integrity
@@CT--hb7hs Especially in Source
You even captured the somber tone of odst and reach and used the music perfectly. I hope they put you in charge the next time they try to make a halo show
There are no words that I can say that haven’t been said already, countless times but believe me when I say that when this Halo fan animation is finished it will be one of the best fan animations ever, you are doing amazing work.
It just keeps on getting better and better with each new video. Isn't anyone going to mention how well the audio conveys the tension and urgency during the pelican flight? By far my favorite part.
Halo Reach's artstyle will always be my favorite. Couple that with your animation skils and we've got one of the best Halo content ever.
Dude this is beyond good, the shots the music the lines, everything is just perfect! Hits all the spots in all the right ways!
Even without the sharp, brilliantly animated action this just continues to deliver in new and surprising ways, great work!
“It’s impossible to please halo fans!”
Meanwhile: every single halo fan loving this series
Making you feel someone relieved to be out of battle atm but still know danger could be anywhere at the same time. then you find an event like this
After your 12 WIPs, please continue making these Halo animations. It feels like I'm playing Halo for the first time all over again
"What can I say, it was one hell of a night"
No but in all honesty this whole animation series has been just pure gold.
Dude I’m glad that you do these WIP it’s a real change of pace to many other animators where they drop off the face of the earth for a few and then come back it’s a joy seeing you post
that halo 3 odst nod with the guy looking up in the rain was a nice touch
I hope this never ends
My man you got real talent
You make halo heart go every time I watch these
Tiny detail but I adore how the spartans sound when they move. They sound exactly how a walking 1-ton suit of armour should. I've heard less believable movement sounds in official Halo media
This guy is doing what the people in charge of the show did not. This guy is taking something that he knows will work and knows people are passionate about and animating it. He is giving us an actual halo experience.
best work yet, you really made SFM’s lighting engine dance for you
thank you for this absolute gift to the halo community
Mais um vídeo incrível te conheço a menos de 1 mês e já é um dos meus criadores de conteúdo favoritos por favor nunca pare com o Incrível trabalho
Duuudddeee! You never cease to amaze me!! I get so lost in your work. The world building you do is so immersive. It’s insane and the attention to detail is phenomenal!
Just watched all these, and gotta say, you are crushing. This is way more like Halo than anything officially released in literally 10 years.
Absolutley love these and excited to see more
This is the Halo show I wanted. It's perfect. You are hands down the best animator I've ever watched.
shit drop everything new halo wip dropped
AYYY LETS GOOO
Man that ODST vibe hit hard here. Amazing work.
Beautiful, the music, the attention to detail, the vibe, everything's so cohesive
Damn, that Deference for Darkness hitted like a train
The attention to detail is amazing.
I can't wait till all the videos come together in one package. This is probably some of the best halo animations out there along with HaloVFX
literally shot out of bed when this was uploaded LOL
These are always so interesting and immersive! It's always so sad when it ends haha. Great work as always! Can't wait to see more! ♥
God I love this hard military sci-fi vibe! This is what future halo campaign need
You put 343 to shame. This is the kind of halo tv series that I've always wanted to see. Well done.
Dude, Deference of Darkness along with the radio transmission and Pelican flying in the air overshadowed by the AA is cinematic af.
*_These 2mins were more HALO than the entire first season of that crapfest we got served._*
Great work as always
When the Piano slides in ...
:)
Ah, the memories. 🙂
Great work man!
Oml the believable comms and radio are such an amazing touch. Thank you so kick for this
The animation is so smooth and story is amazing and ODST music fits is well and gives me so much nostalgia
This was awesome, voice-over was great. Emotion, depth, I actually care about these characters and want to know more. Maybe with the shake up of leadership at 343i they'll hire some full time talent like yourself. We can only hope this change to 343i is the spark that reignites the hot flame that is the Halo franchise.
Unsung: The untold stories of Reach, this would be a game changing series
The facial animations are beyond amazing idk what kind of magic you performed to make them look so natural
SFM has a full suite of facial animations to work with
