I hunt opposite terrain in the SW USA so this was fascinating. We use the plastic retriever for long retrieves and decoy adjustment along with dogs. You are right, widgeon are unpredicatble.
Nice spot to hunt, not too far from the roads, creek provides daily flood tide, birds and birds. Miss a quite bit but got limit nevertheless. Good job bud from Ontario Canada.
As a beginner I love these videos. I’m currently trying to get my first duck near Gretna/annan and always seem to fail miserably. They always stay out in the tide and I can’t seem to get close enough 😔
@@scotty-sb1403 we’re all beginners really but thanks for the feedback. I’m not qualified to give you much help really as local knowledge is best. Rougher weather, in terms of wind, is more likely to bring them in or closer to get shelter. Good luck.
@@CumbrianWildfowler it’s become much harder to get under them in recent years as my club has lost so much land. Hoping I’ll be able to get under some next month. Need to buy a new Go pro. You should really have a dog mate. A lot of clubs would'nt entertain letting you join without one. How do you deal with winged birds or birds that fall out of sight?

Nice one again! Try standing up to shoot, as sitting limits your swing. Also a face mask and ear plugs really help. If I am on a proper seat decoying pigeons or crows I never shoot sitting down.
Been looking forward to this, great spot and set up….keep them coming !
More on the way....in Storm Ashley! Fun for different reasons!

We hunt the tidal flats as well. It is so fun when the wigeon work in! Thanks for sharing.
@auntie-fs possibly?
Is your hair blue and do you own a lot of cats? asking for a friend.
Do you hunt it and then eat it? I think grilling would be the best way to prepare it.

Excellent. Can’t wait for the next one
That tide coming in - absolutely impressive! ( a timelapse from above and behind your position would've been nice!)
They are big tides. Only a handful of them every season....Next time I'll try the Timelapse
Brilliant stuff.
Always nice to see wigeon decoying 👍

It's difficult to tell but are you shooting maintained lead?
No, I usually overtake the bird. I'd like to adopt maintained lead but muscle memory takes over most of the time. One for the off season!

There are plenty of us dogless hunters out there. Choose your shots carefully, mark your bird once it falls and go retrieve it immediately

Thanks, I can't wear face veils. Annoy the shit out of me hence the face paint.
Shooting on the foreshore you get used to shooting sitting or kneeling as standing up isn't possible. Different world to decoying on land.

you are stopping your swing-----you will shoot behind your target
