    Every time I watch a hunting or fishing show in Britain, I realize just how good I have it here in Texas! I limited out nearly every time I went waterfowling and the few times I didn't wasn't because of the lack of birds to shoot at. I was only "skunked" one time and I hunted waterfowl for over 40 years. It was definitely my favorite kind of hunting!

    There are times when just being there is enough

    When the smell of the zostera grass and saltings is enough !...wonderful.

    Nick would be the kind of fellow that would make losing sleep just to be cold and muddy a pleasure. He’d be an interesting man to chat with. Unfortunately I gave up hunting wildfowl when steel shot became mandated. And I came from a long line of duck and market hunters. Crippling and losing so many birds unnecessarily just didn’t seem right to me. Still it’s a pleasure getting out and watching the birds come in and especially if you get to enjoy it with interesting company. 👍🏼

    My grandfather clamped a similar device, Mud Pans, to his cows hooves so they could feed on marsh grass.

    The Percussion jacket worked well on it`s first time out.

    The best part of that shooting session was that there were no messy ducks or geese to field dress afterwards..

    Lovely vlog fella. Would be good at some point to see you complete the mission? but I suppose you cant complain when you get to experience that. And of course that gives you an excuse to have to go out again with Nick.

      Annoyingly, I went to almost the same spot a week later on my own and had dozens of canadas fly over within range. Myself and another nearby fowler took a bird apiece and left it at that. But that just typifies wildfowling. The best laid plans .......

    Mud Pans, ingenious.... or should I say “Brilliant”. I’m going to research them and make a couple of sets for me and my hunting buddys (mates).

    I would like to have heard the rest of the sea eagle information. If they were successful in presenting the forensic truth as to how the eagles died.

    What shells did you bring? 36gram Steel #2 s?

    • @nickhorten97
      @nickhorten97 4 роки тому +3

      I was using 36gm Eley Lightning steel no3s. For what it was worth since the birds didn`t co-operate!

      And what was the gun you had? Looked like a nice old double.

      @@vademecum8184 It`s my 3" Ugartechea that we`ve been using in the steel shot trials that we` ve been doing over the last year. Therer`s a couple of other films on here featuring it that are worth checking out.

    • @vademecum8184
      @vademecum8184 4 роки тому +1

      @@nickhorten97 Thank you for your reply. I absolutely love the idea of using an old style double for wildfowling. There's something special about them. By the way, how light or heavy is your Ugartechea? Just wondering does it kick like a mule with those 36 gram steel shots. But anyhow what splendid idea. I think I will follow your example. Keep up the good work!

    • @nickhorten97
      @nickhorten97 4 роки тому +1

      @@vademecum8184 the gun weighs about 7.5 pounds but it doesn`t kick at all with the heavy loads. You can see me firing it in some of our other steel shot films without any discomfort. Please be advised that this gun is not steel shot proved and I use it as part of an ongoing field trial of the alleged "damage" caused by using steel through a non steel proved gun. I have a clear understanding of the technical parameters within which I`m working and I would NOT advise you to do the same thing. A great many wildfowlers, who do understand steel shot, are successfully using old AYA 3" No. 3`s with the chokes suitably relieved, but again, they know full well what they do technically. Please don`t imitate me in this unless you have a clear grasp of how it all works. Good luck with your fowling. Regards, Nick.

    Some expert? The worst pattern design I have seen.Again nothing to show for all the trouble- if it's too light to film; it's generally too late for the fowl.THEMASTER!
