    Love the 'work in progress' content, Jake. Target panic affects everybody but is such a personal affliction. Suffered from it badly sometime ago, was given 'Zen and the Art of Archery' as a gift (thought it was going to be a bit of a joke written in 1953!) and it has changed my whole perspective, it's taught me to trust myself and let go when it feels right - sounds a bit hippie, but I'm someone who tries to put logic to everything (everything!)... what does my logic tell me, not everything needs to be logical!

    I think you being candid about your target panic is refreshing. It says it can happen to anyone, and that archers at all level of achievement need to find ways to grow and do what it takes to shoot with confidence. Good vid, man.

    Very valuable channel. Wonderful insight into being a champion archer. I was a little taken aback about your statement about pushing the rules but truly it takes that extra effort to customise your setup to be a champion. I've been struggling with target panic (not to mention my crap shot cycle🤣🤣🤣) with trad. One "trigger" I've come to try is slowing down my draw (I guess this is overlapping with expand?) So when the string touches nose it acts a release trigger. But perhaps that's not full draw after all?!
    I've recently started putting a BB kit together so I can do both field and target. You are an inspiration!

    maybe another way to work on target panic is to try horsebow+ thumb release, just in your backyard and what I try is not to think about anything just nock ,draw , and shoot focussing on the target. Basically practice a mindful way of shooting maybe it will help best wishes

    Target panic can be a real nightmare. The problem I find with psycho triggers is anticipation because you’re controlling the click. Well done on making it work for you. Great score by the way in the comp.

    When I shot barebow I always aimed whith the point under the yellow. That’s what my coach told me so I did. I aquired some light target panic over time but worked through that by (in training) having my eyes fixed on a dot just above the target (40 cm/18 m) while still aiming with the point under the yellow. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on target panic 👍

    Hello Jake
    I've changed to shooting under my chin with string blur over the centre of the arrow. My string walk is possible 20m to 80m
    And I only use a higher position for 5 to 10m
    It feels much more stable, 1st comp on Sunday so I'll see what happens. Apart from funny looks 😂
    It might help you out 👍

    Best archery channel on UA-cam 👍🏼
    What is the legal definition of “bare bow”? Shouldn’t it just be a riser, limbs and a string? No buttons, weights, dampeners etc?

  • @adm5618
    @adm5618 3 роки тому

    I just use the pressure of the string against my nose to set my draw and release based on an unconscious tempo I tend to follow once I’m at full draw. Using the mantra “don’t care”. Is working so far 😂
    Shooting my first 50m outdoor score this week since starting in archery in December. Will see how it goes!
    Really enjoy your content Jake

    I,ve recently been watching a few vids on target panic and one dude said he made an air buble in the roof of his mouth and slowly increased pressure and when the bubble popped he would shoot..its a surprise to hear you need a sear system..Watching you shoot I watch the tip of the arrow for wobble and it seems to be rock steady.

    Hey, Jake. Great video as always. Glad that you're enjoying the light side of archery that much :D
    I would like you to elaborate further into target panic and talk about the reasons for its occurrence, as well as about possible actions to counter it and, perhaps, cure it away.
    Also a question for you. How much of a grip angle you'd prefer shooting with barebow & why? Is it the same as a recurve?
    And what's the tab sear btw?

  • @colingregory7464
    @colingregory7464 3 роки тому

    Could you make a step on the back edge of the grip, such that you run your finger down the grip step, at that point the nail drops off the step, along the lines of a hinge cam, for me I would prefer to slide off the step rather than force it!

    Jake, you mention that you experience target panic in this video. I've been trying to find a good, definitive answer as to what, exactly, target panic is, but I've yet to find one that I understand. Would it be possible for you to shoot a video that describes your views on target panic and what target panic is? I found your explanation on eye dominance very useful for both my daughter and I, and our shooting experience has improved as a result. I was hoping for more of the same of your thoughts.
    Thanks in advance. CSD'S. :)

    Hi Jake, I had a question in my mind from many years now and I couldn't find an answer to it.
    There are so many archers around the world working really really hard but not getting the results and some archers who are much newer to the sport or have trained less then others achieve really great success and this can be seen under the guidance of the same coach.
    Since you have been at the top of the sport yourself and have personally spent time with so many other top level archers, what do you think is the key to success in archery apart from hard work and coaching because even with these two things being constant we see drastically different results.
    Thank you and I really really appreciate your work.

      I think some people just naturally know how to learn...Learning how to learn is a whole subject in itself and something I wish I was aware of earlyer in life....The top people in any given field be it music, art or sport tend to eat sleep and breathe their chosen passion with constant focused practice..Even when they dont have a guitar in hand a bow or a surfboard they are thinking about every microscopic detail of every motion executed with flawless impeccable precision and pefection....people who have been doing it longer or put more time in but are not as good tend to just keep practice,ing their mistakes.

    I guess the wood grip will not be as smooth as the plastic grip because plastic has less friction. Did you consider to use a Jager grip and shape it your way? OR Maybe could try to produce a prototype with a plasic / teflon mixture with the help of a CNC miller?

    A harrowing story of clicker addiction. Makes me glad I started out with barebow and never experienced the clicker "target panic" phenomenon.

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  3 роки тому

      The clicker has nothing to do with it.
      I developed target panic with a compound long before shooting recurve.
      Some people get it, and some don’t. It can come on randomly even after shooting for decades without it.
      I hope you continue archery without it. It’s irrational, paralyzing and can take the fun out of archery.

    Jake u were talking bout where ur mid. finger was laying back in the grip!!! What if u recessed or grind out where ur mid finger lays giving you a shorter distance to use ur nail as a clicker! In other words would be like having a cockpit for ur mid finger and less distance to click = less side to side movement !! just a thought ...

    Hi Jake. Interesting process! Have you tried to "push" the sear instead of pulling it? I have tried it and the noise is just as loud, you don't feel your nail bending and it is more "in tune" with the expansion vector when at full draw.... :-)

    I suspect your fingernail is going to wear and change the wooden grip very quickly. The same rapid wear is also likely to occur for a 3d printed plastic grip. I can see two possible solutions to prolong the grip life and give you a consistent trigger. 24 hour epoxy can be diluted about 50% with acetone and would absorb into the wood and strengthen it. Or you could just coat the entire grip with straight epoxy and then final shape the epoxy. I used to use 50% diluted epoxy when making wooden fishing lure and it will absorb and strengthen. You can dilute even more and apply a few coats which will deeply penetrate. I would experiment on some similar wood and then decide the dilution and number of coats that works best.

  • @CoachJoe
    @CoachJoe 3 роки тому

    ok.. you have target panic.. my question.. when you know you're locked at a certain point, is it consistent throughout your shooting for the day or it changes from time to time in the same day?.. and is the lock close to center or its way off like in the red/blue?.. thanks @Jake

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  3 роки тому +1

      The lock can be consistent but cannot be used as the new point of aim or reference, because that becomes the new middle so it locks elsewhere.
      Also using anything other then the middle or just low causes inconsistency of impacts when shooting different targets or distances

    I wonder: how many dyed-in-the-wool barebow-since-I-was-a-baby shooters use a grip sear? Of those that don't (I'm assuming the majority) what cue[s] trigger release for them?
    Part of me wonders if you're looking for a 'mechanical' solution to a problem that really isn't 'mechanical'
    It's possible (in my mind, anyway) that years of clicker-triggered releasing have left you feeling bereft of something that dyed-in-the-wool barebow shooters have never had.
    That would lead you, I think, down a path that said "don't re-engineer your bow grip. Re-train your mind, body and reflexes"
    Dam' shure - given the many years you were indoctrinated in Olympic Recurves style by Coach KSL - that's not the easiest option, but in the long run, I'd be betting on it being the most productive.
    One day a week practice? You'll wind up shooting like me :-D

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  3 роки тому +1

      @@JakeKaminskiArchery I'm kind of with @p on this. I shoot BB partly to get a bit of freedom from the clicker tyranny I get shooting olympic recurve and find it helps. Both disciplines more enjoyable as a result. Usually!

      @philipsturtivant9385 3 роки тому

      @@JakeKaminskiArchery Even so, I can easily see that a clicker is a very precise mechanical indicator that you've reached optimum draw length, but I don't see how a grip sear can come close to giving that level of precise repeatability.
      That's likely me just overthinking the question: if you shoot better with it than without it, well then - go for it. And - as long as it's legal - that would seem to apply to any 'it' you like :-D
