When I saw that this is going to be 30 minute long video only about hooking and griping was a bit unsure if i want to watch it all, but then it hooked me. I had no idea there there were so much interesting details about this
I'd love one video that covers all the series in brief without too many of the "whys" so that I can easily refer back without watching and skipping a lot. Thanks very much for the series!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Jake. For a newbie like me, in need of understanding things he does, your work is a mine of informations. Cheers from France
"but it's barebow, it's fun and whatever works for you..." wise words Jake! I totaly agree. I sometimes feel that a barebow archer is a different archer for every different distance.
Wow, the explanation on the thumb with the grip just really hit home. In the obscene effort to not torque the bow I've been thinking that thumb pressure might cause some torque so I tend to avoid excessive pressure with the bow hand thumb. Definitely something new to think about.
Maybe it's just me... Not sure if you did a great job of explaining this, or if it just clicked in my mind better for some reason.... 59 and haven't touched a bow since my college days. Recently renewed my interest, so trying to absorb as much as possible about the various techniques and different archery styles. Really enjoying all your great content! Not too interested in Olympic style recurve at this point, and seem to be more drawn to bare bow or traditional. But there's lots to learn that carries over from one style to another. Especially, developing a proper draw cycle and form to prevent shoulder injury... something perhaps even more important as we get older.
Really good job covering the nitty gritty nuances that apply to barebow... excellent explanations. Also really liked that you made the effort to not only show your particular technique but also other common variations you see used and talked about considerations for those individuals as well... well thought out and very thorough as we have come to expect from you!
Phew yet another brilliant video. I've watched the whole series 4 times now and as my experience grows so does my understanding of what you're describing and I'm more able to appreciate the finer nuances. So thank you very much for all your effort. It really is appreciated.
I liked the T-shirt in this video, Jake! There are some days that, you know, apparently you make all the same things but arrows do not really want to go
I’ve got some pain on the lower side of the joint on my middlefinger on the drawing hand. But I’ve been taught to hook in the joints and just pull back until the string releases. Also been taught to have even pressure on all three joints. This video has been illuminating. I’m getting a thicker tab and I’ll try fixing my technique. I already tried using my finger pads instead of joints but had more pain, but I didn’t hook upwards or paid attention to pressure distribution or rolling on the string.
I would like to see a performance comparison between this style of release and the "split finger" Mediterranean release commonly used in the UK and Europe.
I have been waiting for the next episode of this series! The stance episode helped tighten my groups and I can't wait to try these tips out as well. Plus I am reading the Inside to archery book and your videos help break down that information so I can understand it better in motion! Thank you so much!!!!
So I learned that I have been gripping slightly to the bow. It feels natural not to grip the bow at all like you showed but when I do the top limb drops back after release and almost hits me in the face. Your bow had weights on the front. I have no weights added to my barebow at the moment so would that correct the swing back or am is my grip still off and I'm causing it to top back instead of drop down.
Hey Jake, this is a great resource. I am moving to BB after 20 years Oly Recurve, there is terrific detail about the nuanced differences as well as the similarities, with great explanations. Thank you.
I've been shooting NTS barebow since the beginning (2 years ish). I look forward to watching your videos for info/tips/reinforcement. Great details. Changed my hook with a training bow, and worked on grip pressure point/position a lot. I recently started Olympic Recurve and compound, for form refinement and fun, really, and because I am an NTS coach as well and want to know them by shooting them, not just study. But, BAREBOW. Thanks! Oh, and, nice t-shirt...very funny.
Thank you for the great content Jake, these are very helpful for a beginner like me and I'm sure experienced people would also need these points as a refresher from time to time. I will sure be checking out your store to support you producing more such content!!
Hey Jake, thanks for mentioning the low wrist grip. Once I made the switch from high to low grip stringwalking made a heck of lot more sense (and worked!) Still trying to get used to the aiming with different crawls at different target heights and where to make more major aiming adjustments from. Thanks heaps as always.
@@JakeKaminskiArchery I just started out archery a few months ago and I applied some of your video tips to my shooting yesterday, and it was the 1st time I had any consistency at all. I was hitting gold after gold. Thanks a lot!
Hi, thanks for these elaborate video's. I have a question. When I draw back I anchor at the hinge point of my jaw. But to anchor there I cannot put my elbow behind the arrow line. I can draw back further but then my hand passes my face and is just behind my ear. Buying clothes someone noted this, but my upper arm seems to be a relatively longer then the lower part of my arm. Have you encountered this and do you have any tips? Thanks again and greetings from NL
What would you like help on adjusting? I can if I know more about the question and the issue that is out there. I haven't shot much gap shooting, I prefer instinctive, string walking or sights. Gap is a little less precise for my taste but I can do my best to help.
@@JakeKaminskiArchery I'm humbled by your reply. To be honest, I'm not sure. I only started archery a few weeks ago and have been trying to nail down good form and technique. I can't really specify what I'm looking to adjust because I don't even know what I'm doing... Your videos have been invaluable by the way, I appreciate them very much.
Jake….recently competed in my first shoot with Barebow. I had a very difficult time on the ‘shooting line’ due to the proximity of shooters on both sides of me. The triangle set position is definitely comfortable, but hard to use on the ‘line’. What to do?
Hi Jake, I was wondering why a 'three below" hook would be a disadvantage when shooting an olympic recurve bow? Why is a "split" hook better for Olympic recurve?
Freestyle Olympic style QUESTION : Does a really solid / hard / really bent Clicker affect plunger button movement? ( NOT centre shot , but ... ) ... Say you have a lot of preload tension on the clicker, and when the clicker goes off, that tension of the arrow pressing into the burger button goes away instantly. At that instant, does the tip of the burger button bounce in & out for a few milliseconds ? i.e. can your CLICKER be tooo STRONG ?
When you finish this series Episodes it will be complete core of barebow shooting - to watch over and over again for years... Thank you!
i was making a archery playlist but realized your whole channel is a playlist... thanks jake

Do you plan on making a video in this series that shows how to adjust if you're not string walking?

Jake - What kind of arrow rest/plunger kit are you using? I like how it holds the arrow. Thanks.

Hi Jake, should the finger pressure percentages changed here from Olympic style recurve?

If it doesn't affect clicker movement it will affect the tune/flight of the arrow. The lightest pre-load on the arrow possible is optimal
Geeze, I think I have really long arms. My arm isn't in line with the arrow lol
