    So Mick,
Basic bag training is prolly the most underrated and dreaded form of training there possibly is. But done properly it is the most effective training one can possibly do. Use your creative juices to make it fun. As a toddler and rugrat we are constantly under restrictions as to how far we could proceed forward but we always made it fun!

Sorry... I sent it before I was finished! The biggest thing I’ve learned over the years from bag training is that as long as I keep it simple and in ur face I’m able to practice doing all of the things right over and over again and again. Your not practicing to get it right, but never to get it wrong again! One thing that helps is having a procedure that ends with completion. With your mind totally on completion you quit focusing on the steps of your shot procedure and focus completely on the most important step... the last one! It could be touching your shoulder with your draw hand, it cud b feeling the bow jump forward into the finger sling, it cud b the sound of the arrow hitting the target, you have to complete the shot the best way that works for you and in the process do it over and over until your bored to tears... after you get thru crying start over again! Remember this... only after you have brought the shot to completion can you drop the bow arm and begin to think about the next shot!

I have a similar form of target panic, only it's high instead of low. I struggle to lower my arrow tip that last crucial inch. Been doing hold draws for a couple of months and really focusing on expansion and making sure every muscle in my body is relaxed except for my back and shoulder. Funnily enough I went on a Technohunt session with some buddies last month and all 33 shots were full follow-through, no problem staying on target. Go figure! I hope you're beating this too!

Hi Mick, lots to think about. I was thinking about some of my indoor shoots. I would always find that as I hit the line, I would feel confident and steady, usually my first arrow was on the money, so I’d relax my headspace a bit. Then I found, I started to notice funny noises on the bows of people to my side, or the person on the other side talking to themselves. Honestly my next shots were lucky to be on the target. Ironically, I used to treat indoor shooting as prep and form work for 3D shoots. So I’ve always found that I’m more confident and consistent shooting 3D, where it’s just one arrow. I can have a rough idea of the distance as the group approaches the next target, and I can focus long enough to make a good shot, even with the trash talk and clowning that can go on. Soon as I go indoors, the old pattern creeps in. So I need to work on not letting myself be distracted by stuff. Great video mate!

George Ryals has an amazing video about "target panic". Words can have a huge impact in the way we accept/process things.

Well if for most people target panic looks more like snap shooting, I'm the exact opposite. I hold on too long and my aim is floating especially on unknown distances where I'm not 100% sure if my crawl is good.

As an Olympic recurve shooter, the clicker cured my target panic. Unfortunately the clicker to my knowledge, is not allowed in barebow.

Holy smoke, i didn't know there was a name for this! I get the overpowering urge to release before I'm ready. I know I'm doing it and it's still so hard to stop. I tried a lighter draw bow and still do the same thing. The other thing that is weird is that I don't have this problem at all when shooting a rifle offhand. How does that make sense! Brains are so weird sometimes. Oh well, now I know I'm not alone. Time to practice!

@@ArcheryGeek You opened my eyes to the fact that I had a severe target panic problem. Once I identified the problem I was able to address it by doing the "very deliberate shot sequence" type of approach. My target panic issues are completely resolved! As a casual backyard archer I had been struggling with this for 20+ years. Thank you sir!!!!

Hi Mick, still binge watching! I established with John Demmer III a while ago that I do have TP as he has the same twitch issue that he calls TP. It's an uncontrollable twitch in my shoulder that collapses my shot. Sometimes I can stop the arrow from leaving, other times, it's a bloody disaster! It happens for me usually once in a competition and is the major cause of arrow loss and shame because the twitch sends arrows flying off to the right. It's usually when I'm thinking too hard about the shot (anticipation), so all these techniques of talking yourself through really aren't that helpful for this one. I had 6 months off last year because my spine collapsed and the twitch was STILL there when I started up again! Argh!

Oh no that’s not good! Are you trying anything for it?

@@ArcheryGeek Well I changed bow style and it worked for a bit, then changed to 3Ds and had a bunch of fun until I started winning medals and then started needing to score again. State of mind means a lot, so it has to be less about me and more about what I feel about killing the target. Which is great when it's a 3D, but you can't really direct your hunting instinct towards a roundel. 😂
