Turning an Space Dyed Braid into a Gradient Batt or Self-Striping Yarn-Acid dyed wool to gradient

- Hello! In a recent live with members, we had a conversation about making a gradient batt. I had had this idea on my list, and I thought I had a great candidate for a braid, so here we are! We're making a gradient batt that can be turned into rolags or roving and made into a long gradient, a self-striping yarn, or even a fractal yarn! See you soon! Thanks, I love you! Bye!

Hi Trish. Everytime I watch you I want to start coloring, druming and spining. One of these days, I will get off my chair and just do it...
2 things
1: the colours are SO dreamy in the way they blended in that batt. Loved it so much!
2: the ASMR of the carder picking up the wool is not to be joked about. You could literally do a real time batt video with that drum carder and I would watch the whole thing.
I don't know why I have never done a gradient yarn! Love it!
Good lord that batt is scrumptious!!!!
This is interesting. Now I understand what a roving and rolag is.
It was fascinating watching this again. It helps me remember stuff I want to try.
Love watching you blend fibers 😊
I have no idea why I’ve never thought of this before! Genius.
A gradient bat demo. Great idea! Thank you for showing this process.
That would make an AMAZING warp!
WOW!!!!!! You are just convincing me more and more that I need to save money faster so I can get a drum carder! I want to do this sooooooooo much!!!!!!!
The gradient turned out gorgeous!
Oooo, the possibilities!! I joined a fibre of the month club here in Canada and I was thinking of putting some braids through my drum carder and then spinning them long draw.... so I think I’m going to do THIS! Thanks Trish! 😀
That is so beautiful! Loved the braid too, I've seen this done before and never really understood the point of putting in all that extra work - but now I seeeeee! Lol.
It IS a lot for the “members” and it’s wonderful to support a channel that offers so much information.
That pretty braid is even more lovely now, blessings.
so beautiful ...have a bleeding board.....brain working overtime on the possibilities
I like variegated batts and yarns, I would do the repeating color pattern/self striping because I usually work on small projects and would want to get all the colors in each item.
That was so cool. I am happy to see how much you like that drum carder. I think the vendor is going to be very busy
I LOVE drum carding videos! Thank you!
Thank you so much for the roving tip. I have split batts like that before HOWEVER struggled with the turning of the join section. Thank you and the farm truck is the bomb.
I love this one. I am not usually a fan of this colour way but man, this is gorgeous!
I really just *love* those colors together. SO pretty!
Thanks for demonstrating the process, I'm still a Newby and didn't know how they were used. 👍👍👍
So gonna do this
That is one of the prettiest color schemes I think I've seen🥰
Oh wow, that turned out so beautiful, something else now I’m going to have to try, if I get to try all these techniques I’ll have to live to be 100, 😂
Love how this roving turned out. Very pretty
The batt came out just gorgeous. I have some Polwarth just begging for this technique.
Thanks so much for showing this!! Always love your tutorials. Thanks so much for the beautiful batt for Tour de fleece!! It turned out as a gorgeous yarn.
Ooo love the colours in the braids behind you!
Thank you for sharing. The drum carders are awesome! Love watching others use them.
Hi Trish, the braid is gorgeous and I love how the batt came out
Thank you for sharing this technique. The fiber is beautiful.
Hey Trish, how about doing a video showing all the socks you knitted and maybe any other things you made? l would love to see the socks you have knitted with your variegated yarns to get an idea of what the finished products can look like.
Awesome
Love love love! What a cool option, especially if you love the colors of a braid but want them in a different order. I haven’t been brave enough to reorder a braid, but I might be now!
Holy SnackBuckets!!! Love your videos and the ideas you share❣️❣️❣️ I don’t have a drum carder … yet… but I do have a blending board. I’m putting this on my Must do list 😁
Thank you for this video 😊
Love this!!! I have a braid and a drum carder and now, a mission!!!
This is so awesome. I would never have thought about doing it this way. I am going to have to dye up a bat now to try this. Thank you for sharing.
Such a pretty colorway, made a beautiful batt too.
Amazing! Loved watching this today - you Rock!
Joining your Community this weekend!
Beautiful! Can’t wait to see you spin it.
Can't wait to see this spun up!
Excellent! I love your classic carder. It looks so much easier than mine!
Very pretty gradient
I’m excited to see this spun!
I would never of thought to do that. I love it!
Very pretty batt. I'm going to have to try this and use it for a weaving project. I'm such a copy cat!
That is so gorgeous! I love the idea of using it for a warp. I can't wait to try it!
Oh my goodness is that beautiful!
Thanks Trish for another great podcast. Always very informative and motivational. Looks easy with a drum carder.
I'm probably a little tired, I read "turning a space dyed brain..." What the f? Oh, braid, yeah, I knew that! But it is a beautiful batt, love the colours 😊
🤣
Trish, this is amazing! I have a blending board and need to try this with a multicolor braid of fiber.
Gorgeous!!! Started spinning the Jacob braid …. Wish I could have bought 3 more - it is spinning up great and exactly what I was hoping for!!
One day I hope to be able to do that!
Thank you for showing this! It's beautiful! 😍
I love learning about new ways to blend! I can't wait to see how you spin it into yarn. So may possibilities🤩
Beautiful ❤️
Wow, that was amazing! I’m looking at some of my braids in a whole new way
That gradient turned out beautifully, I keep thinking of a crescent-shaped lace shawl with it. 🤷🏻♀️ I love drum carders so much!
Rose gold……I wonder, would it require sparkle to work?
What great info! Since my carder is smaller in width, I guess I could split the colors into 2 batts using 3 colors each time. I'll give this a try. Thanks so much and God bless.
I was looking for a video on how to do this. It turned out so nicely. Thank you.
You make it look so easy!😅
Awesome how to! I've always wondered if this could be done. TY as always!
Oh my that is so dreamy! ❤️❤️❤️
I really love this technique !!!
Beautiful gradient I've done a couple on my classic but mine isn't as big as yours so can only do 3 to 4 colours at a time. But I'm thinking of investing in the larger one like yours I think, thank you so much for sharing this with us all much love and light and big virtual hugs x
How wide is your carder now? I’m looking for a new Ashford drumcarder at the moment and I don’t want to buy one that’s too small. 🤔
@@yarnandtealover6401 mine is a classic like trish but mine is about 30cm wide I can fit about 2 to 3 oz on it it's not as big as trish one x
@@sadiesspincraft6319 Thank you so much for the info! Now I can compare them better because there are so many different drumcarders on the market. It’s such a big investment too. Have a nice day! ❤️
@@yarnandtealover6401 I've measured it I was way out it's 20cm sorry for not having the right measurements I was at work when I answered xx
@@sadiesspincraft6319 No problem! Thank you for your feedback. 💕
So pretty! You are such a carder junkie 🤣 i am a wheel junkie
That was really cool! Thanks for sharing. ❤️
That is beautiful! I love it!!!!
beautiful
Really pretty gradient. Can't wait to see you spin it!
Awesome. Thank you.
That is so pretty
That is absolutely beautiful just love it and by the way I can’t find the little drawing button on my screen love you and I’ll watch for the next video
Loved this one!
Beautiful!
Gorgeous!
Thank you, that was great!
That is so neat!!
Fabulous video! I can’t wait to try this! 😊
Thankyou so much, I loved this video and learnt so much 🥰
I want to rip apart a braid and try this. Too many projects in my head! 🤣
Fantastic!
So lovely the gradient, you make it so simple and easy to follow.
THAT IS SO COOL!!! Thank you for the example of how to do this!
Can you give a little more info on your Classic Carder? Is yours high sided or standard? Is it the jumbo size or standard size? Long pins or standard? I'm not sure if the long pins are important. TIA for the info!
Wow, this was so cool!
I really want to try this I would love to see how it spins up
Could you demonstrate how to do gradient using hand carders.
Love 💕 love this!
that is awesome 👌
The batt looks great, love the soft dusty pink even if it it’s quite what you were aiming for. Wonder if this technique will work with a blending board? One way to find out.
Supercool to see how you can transform a braid into your own batt! Right now I'm thinking of making my own batt, however I'm considering not going from a braid. What sort of keywords/terms should I look for if I want to get a handful of individual colors that I can then blend myself on a drum carder? I'm a weaver by trade so I'm still learning all of the fiber and spinning terminology! Shop recommendations are also appreciated
I love this! Thanks for carding a gradient batt. You have a unique talent for selecting colors that work so well together. Fun video…Thanks so much.
So cool, Trish! I always find it so inspiring to see al the different things you can do with hand dyed braids. Thanks. have a lovely day!
Trish~~~ this is so awesome!!! Beautiful Braid turned into Gorgeous Gradient!! Thank you so much for sharing this ❤️
I really like that almost perfect braid 😍 I hope you make more.
Loving this idea! I have a beautiful “almost” rainbow braid that I was trying to decide how to prep and spin. I’ve also been eyeing Stephen West;s Pagona shawl pattern. How awesome the rainbow braid spun as a gradient would look in that shawl. Thanks Trish!
