It’s always a great day when Holly posts a video! 😊
Spot on information Holly. People are sometimes amazed at my 6 pairs of fitness shoes I have. I also learned quite a bit on this topic. As for socks, I am a Triathlete and have no time for socks. I know, maybe not a good idea but they waste time putting them on. LOL Cheers. keep up they great work.
Great to see a Coach Holly video. I've been training on the bicycle this month, got 250 miles on it in 3 weeks, and nothing but hills up here in Finger Lakes of NYS. Yes, shoes are definitely a concern for running -- wow, "other parts of my legs hurt from the bicycle, but NOT my feet - LOL". (I haven't ridden a bicycle in such a long time). It's all good, I need the aerobic stamina back. Have an Awesomeness weekend Holly.
Thanks, this helps me a lot. I was running in a newer pair for awhile and I was having feet and calves pain. So, after a few months I switched to the older pair and the soreness went away. Again, thanks for this video.
You're welcome!
Your channel is 👍. Love watching your race recaps. Great shoe info. Probably not your target demo but I find the training advice spot on anyway.
thank you!!
Nice video Holly. I would recommend people get a video analysis done prior to buying any running shoe, as this definitely allows you to understand better pronation and supanation and what shoes is best suited to your running gait. This in itself can save many injuries.
I decided to try running in lower drop shoes over a year ago as the toe numbness was doing my head in,after doing a 10 miler I started looking at anything lower than 8mm drop. I started with the Hokas and the Altras I got were game changers.
After watching this, I know I made the right decision.
I ran for a few years just buying whatever shoe I felt looked the best in my price range. Last year I actually went to a local running store and got fitted for the first time and my feet thanked me. Oh and I remember trying to run in my metcons, definitely not made for running 😂
FYI: REI members get 6 months to try out and return shoes!
Thank you for sharing!!
whoa!!!
I am here for Deborah!!! Haha 😊
She's the best - I don't blame you!
What do you recommend for people who need some stability but have IT band issues? Currently I run in the Saucony Tempus, which feels right during the run but afterward I consistently have a nagging IT. Rolling and stretching does help, as does strengthening hips/glutes, but I'm still wondering if I'm in the wrong shoe.
You mentioned the use of inserts for plantar fasciitis, but any time I see your speedgoats, you have stock sock liners inside. When is the time to use inserts and when is time to not? I use Superfeet Carbon because it's thin and gives some arch support but honestly don't know if I need it or not. Thanks coach!
Yes good question! Inserts were just to help when I had plantar fasciitis years ago. When I’m not struggling with it, I use normal inserts that the shoes come with!
@@gofarsogood Thank you, coach!!
I just watch "best running shoes of [whatever year it is]" videos every once in a while, and buy whichever model is on sale
I wear a “neutral”running shoe currently. I’ve noticed over the last few years my feet are pointing out. I really notice it in race pics, that I look like a duck.
I’ve heard of stabilizing shoes or shoes with guide rails I guess. In your opinion, do those make a difference to straighten out the feet?
Good question! Straightening the feet out comes down to two things: rolling out and loosening up your adductors/outer hips/ glutes, as well as strengthening your single leg position. This means adding in some single leg balance work, clamshells, and plyometrics like a reverse lunge/high skip combo. Bonus points for also loosening up and stretching the range of motion in your ankles!
Bottom line: our bodies/habits are too strong to not fight against a shoe trying to “put us in the right position”.
Hope this helps you!
@@gofarsogood that is very helpful! I don’t foam roll or stretch, so I definitely need to incorporate that. I used to do a lot more single leg and running type exercises such as clam shells etc, but stopped a couple years ago to focus more on strength training.
So I need to get back to that as well then!!
Thank you so much for the response and help, truly appreciate it!!
