As one of those lower tier streamers, thank you for calling out how bad Twitch's priorities are towards extremely small streamers. One thing that just needs to be accepted is that not every small streamer is going to make it (be it to some combination of luck and skill), but Twitch just refuses to accept that notion and tries to force a square peg in a round hole with awful features that just hurts everyone in the long run.
I don't get twich. Video quality is crazy bad, the streamers don't do anything half the time, the chat is a mess. UA-cam is just so much better in every way.
So, in fact, you're not criticising Twitch by itself, you're more criticising the concept of livestreams, and then conclude that Twitch is bad because it focuses on a format of content you consider to be inferior to edited videos.
The "new" mobile update is totally unusable and max garbage. Literally what happens when the one making the design decision do not use the app themselves. You literally have no quick list of Followed LIVE Channels. It's a live feed where u have to scroll like an animal and can barely understand who's live is it.
Shoot...time to invest in my UA-cam i guess. Twitch is most dev friendly especially for Vtubers such as myself to incorporate azing interaction which is something UA-cam doesnt seem as interested in.
Not sure how twitch disappearing would have such a huge effect, the 3M people watching it would easily watch yt live instead. I think yt could make some great changes that would make this easier
As an aspiring Product Manager, I really love this. This is a clinic in how to, and how not to, develop a product that users will love. Thanks for this!
I'd love to know who thought putting a vertical feed on a horizontal content website, so we can quickly scroll LONG-FORM content (who does that?) on a platform that nobody uses for discovery, was a good idea....
I am on Android and for a while now I have been able to open the following list while having the stream I'm watching still open in PIP and looking at the live feed. Apparently some people have told me on iOS can't even find the following popup list. A workaround for clip editing is you can stitch together pieces that are too far apart using highlighter and then make a clip from the highlight. It breaks sometimes but I've done it a few times.
It's also kinda bad how it indirectly makes people believe they have a chance to become the next big streamer. You most likely won't. You will stream 23 hours a day with 3 viewers and no amount of tools will ever fix that.
The problems & mistakes sound like the result of people/departments caring about what the others can provide and not talking to & studying the experience of going from T4 to T1
What about Twitch taking 5y+ to simply copy basic features made for free by BTTV and Frankerz ? Example, adding chat-polls natively. Aslo BTTV quick moderation tools are sooooooooo much better than what twtich offers and visually bloatwares the moderator's chat experience.
the problem with twitch is it assumes everyone going to twitch is there to make videos. At least . that's how it feels. That's a stupid interface in general.
16:08 Discovery is exactly why I never could get into twitch or understood it. I only found Theo and twitch streamers once they started posting to UA-cam. I kept trying Twitch but didn’t know how to find interesting stuff. I didn’t know any creators to look up directly. Any creator who is on twitch, I found and watch I watch on UA-cam cuz it was pushed them into my UA-cam feed. Would’ve never known about twitch streamers I follow on UA-cam now if not for UA-cam. Clips too. Manual Clips channels on UA-cam of podcasts or longer form like when a twitch streamer edits their stream into digestible chunks for UA-cam makes people jump in. And why UA-cam works better I tried so hard to get into twitch but it just didn’t make any sense on how to find people that wasn’t weird trending stuff on the home page.
The main issue with twitch, especially with big channels will be the non-stop upcoming AAA crips 4K RTX games. It is BRUTAL to watch the encoding lowering the visual experience to a perceived 720p. Twitch has to release the 1440p compatible bitrate, if not for everyone, at least for the big tier channels. As much as I hate the UA-cam live-chat experience and wonkiness' I COULD NOT VIEW ELDEN RING or WUKONG streams on twitch.
The issue i see with that is how expensive streaming is. Based on the the amazon IVS calculator the same back end twitch uses, going from 720 to 1080p roughly doubles the cost. Meaning that twitch has to make double the revenue per person streaming the content at that resolution. And as of right now twitch still isn't profitable so dumping money to ad another resolution option probably isn't on there todo list.
Disagree. They're already in financial trouble and implementing high resolutions will bring them no more money, just bankrupt them. If you want the full game experience go play the game. The main thing they need to do is very simple, like youtube, they need to stop attacking their own content creators and viewers and work towards actually tangiably improving the service, not wasting time on obviously terrible ideas like knock. Frankly I don't think anyone developing for twitch actually watches twitch given that knock got through the planning stages and their moderation team is a mess, a bunch of power tripping corrupt degenerates that are about on par with reddit moderators in their behaviour and communication. Once they've figured out how to turn a profit then they can figure out how to make HD streaming economically viable.
DAMN less than 1/4 of the view you WERE getting?? Wow guess that video attacking consumers REALLY ENDED YOUR CHANNEL huh?? you should quit youtube it would be more respectable than continuing in a state of pathesis
Users and creators: Can you stop banning people unfairly/semi-randomly and also give us better feedback and clarity on what was wrong when you do ban us? Twitch: No, but here have this completely useless on-the-fly collab button invented by some weird groomer.

no it's 99% skill
“The mobile app is built by people who don’t use Twitch” - oof. This is so true in my experience working as an iOS engineer + creator on UA-cam.
We do love our shiny iOS and Android features
I don't get twich. Video quality is crazy bad, the streamers don't do anything half the time, the chat is a mess. UA-cam is just so much better in every way.
Are you kidding me, UA-cam live chat is cancer.
@@TomNook. I have never even looked at it because I don’t watch streams on UA-cam either, see problem number 2.
How would you know UA-cam is "so much better in every way" if you've never watched livestreams on UA-cam?
@@TomNook. well, I don't watch streams in general, so for me it is better in every way. Subjectivity is implied in normative statements.

I mod for a friend's stream. If I'm not home? I can't do my job. The mobile app is obnoxious to use. Even worse if you need to do any work on it.

I've used the app a handful of times sinceits initial release and its always felt like it doesn't want its users to find the stuff they want
... while we're at it, where's my sleeptimer on twitch mobile?

But....they added "Stories". Problem solved.
I wouldnt recommend Cap Cut at all
If people aren't here for the rants then... Like it's right there in the name
Twitch is a true clown company 🤡
Lol I actually like the redesign
new twitch phone app is disastrous

good info thanks for this one
bro I got caught SO MANY TIMES because of autoplay... lol
Twitch is hyperfocusing on gamers, and I’m one of the viewers that literally almost never watches gaming.
Same
In which way? Through marketing?
Twitch still thinks we are still in lockdown
@@auraxio2944nah through tooling - if you look at gaming you are more likely to switch between channels, the video editing isn’t needed for gaming etc
It has always been about games. Even when it was justintv (where other people could stream), gaming was still the most prominent thing
Dang they should pay you for all this, that's like 50k worth of consultancy
Nothing makes me close Twitch faster than pre-roll ads
How long would it take and how much would it cost in infra to make a competitor to Twitch that would do it right?
First like
New viewer here! love the ranting vibes with amazing insight! thank you for making this x
This was really informative
you sound like you got fired from twitch bih
Who uses computers anymore 🤔
Stupidest thing I have read all day.
A lot of people
It depends on the income, but roughly, you could say that 70-90% of people who use smartphones also have a PC or laptop at home.
