This is by far my favourite one. I tried Start11 and I remember spending about 45m trying to figure out where the combine taskbar buttons option was, with StartAllBack everything was so straight forward, I even bought the licence.
See, I could never put the taskbar at the top, but I get it. I love slamming my mouse to the corner to close my apps, especially with multiple monitors selected. That said, I noticed in one of your last videos that having it on top made the video more clean; it's almost as if the task bar didn't exist. Thank you for showing multiple options for this!
5:10 LOL I like the snark. Elitists everywhere eh?! You are so right that everyone should use their computer how they like. You are not "wrong" for your choice!! Here is my ramble on my own personal preferences! I keep taskbar on the bottom because I like having a dedicated use for each corner of the screen. I use a lightweight mouse with sensitivity turned way up, so, flicking into the corners is easy on my setup. On top left or top middle we can access the window (drag by titlebar), and top right is close app + window controls. In firefox I can set up a top-left-corner button as long as it's not an extension or the "bookmarks toolbar items". I put the fullscreen button there sometimes. On bottom left is start button, and bottom right is show desktop + clock / action center. I like how familiar that is and StartAllBack is the best solution to achieving it. (ExplorerPatcher is just ok.) For anyone curious about segments.. the 3 segments setup can be really cool. I sometimes squeeze notes and timers into the taskbar this way, just by dragging a window to the right spot. Also you may click or right click in that space between segments and actually interact with those windows behind the maximized window. Handy for right clicking the desktop to get to display/personalization settings and NVCP. I have always been envious of MacOS's menu bar + dock setup, yet taskbar auto hide never really cut it. Well that situation has got a little better in recent updates (3.8)! They added an auto-hide checkbox to this section. Turn that on and then you will see "dynamic transparency/dynamic segments" checkbox turn into "dynamic shyness". Allows easier true-fullscreen without hiding your taskbar from you when there is available space to use for it. I was actually hoping this video would have information on ver. 3.8, since it is so recent. Still a nice video overview of the app. Auto updates don't seem to work for me so I'm glad I clicked "check for updates" today. I do own it though. The license is worth a buy. Thank god I don't have to use the default taskbar and start.
If you use Windows 10: StartAllBack is not compatible. However, there is another tool from the same developer called "StartIsBack" that does the same thing, but designed for Windows 10 instead.
The main reason I am looking at this program is for the taskbar. Windows 11 doesn't allow you to move the icons where you want like in all previous versions as far back as XP IIRC as well as the auto hide function. Auto hide is buggy as hell with Windows 11 and rarely hides the taskbar entirely automatically, which is something I need it to do because I'm using an OLED.
A really good idea for a program, is one that manages your virtual desktops as a virtual desktop manger (vdm). So let's say you have 4 x virtual desktops and use the same apps running in each desktop, the vdm will allow you to save this. So when the PC boots, it auto loads the saved vdm, or possibly from a choice of user saved saved vdm's. Currently, windows does not save virtual desktops, meaning the user has to configure them on every reboot.
with a 49" ultrawide Samsung Monitor, this program is a must as it allows the taskbar to be on the monitor edge (Left/Right) not just top and bottom. I can afford to lose some from 5120 but its a pain losing it from 1440. Thankfully this has recently been fixed to work again with Win 11.
Some Linux distros has it like that by default (sometimes on side). Since he said he uses Win11 as main OS only lately, I would assume he moved from Linux and might be used to it 😊
I have been using it since they made it available for windows 11 which was almost since launch, I used it for a few years, and it had many bugs with the taskbar not working properly or crashing at times. even with fresh installs. Also, the start menu animations and some other flyouts sometimes bug out and become stuttery or have weird effects at really random times, but that was far and few between, but it was enough to make me uninstall it and just use the default shell. The animations are also not smooth as the originals, they feel like 30 fps videos instead running geometric graphics but that didn't really bother me as the rest of the issues it had for years.
With the quick access links enabled on the task bar though startallback, can you drag a file onto those links to open it with those programs? That's a feature I use regularly when I have a file I regularly open with program A, but often enough need to open with a non default program.
I managed to stay away from Win 11 because of stuff like this, I use Win10 LTSC. so do you recommend switching to Win11 Pro now (with the help of software like this) ?
I've used StartIsBack (the related software for Windows 10/8 from the same Publisher) for years. You can export all of your preferences from the software by exporting a single Windows Registry key. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\StartIsBack] (the version I use on Windows 10) [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\StartAllBack] (the version for Windows 11)
Not bad - especially for new people because it's an all-in-one package, but personally I stick to my highly customized OpenShell and 7+TT ..like the past 15y.

Thanks for sharing, I've started using this. Bought a license. Any chance if anyone knows if you can have the date + time still appear when you use small icons? Thanks! Edit: After poking around I found the setting, its in [Tray Icons] > Date > Customize format. It's not the same as the default one that shows with medium icons, but good enough!
I just started using this today. Managed to customize the things I want except for one problem. I turned on automatic hiding the taskbar while dynamic transparency was enabled and transparency got disabled. Enabling automatic hiding turns on dynamic shyness instead. Any ideas how to fix this?
Will you be using StartAllBack on your Windows 11 installation or nah?
Just bought it although hiding the taskbar doesn't seem to work correctly.
nope. I'm going forward, not back.
I already have it
I've been using StartAllBack for many months now and I am VERY happy with it. Highly recommended.

I agree, StartAllBack definitely is the best in my opinion too.

how do i make my taskbar full transparent??
rectify 11 does let you change the right click menu to what you have shown with shell
I'm using it and it's such a visual please .

Is it possible to export and import configurations?
I'm not sure, I don't see anything related to that in the settings.

100 days.
The taskbar styler mod in windhawk is much more tweakable than this, that is if you care to learn a bit of xaml
