The thing that I seriously hate about using Explorerpatcher is that sometimes you get hit with a really bad update and your entire screen is black and explorer.exe never shows up. So frustrating to deal with. Gotta uninstall EP or the update and just troubleshooting it was a pain in general. I'm just gonna stick with auto hiding my taskbar. That was basically my problem so far with W11 since I couldn't have small taskbar.
I cover that at the end of the video. I have it on 5 PCs and it's happened once. It's a very quick fix. Just press ctrl shift esc to bring up the task manager. Run new task. Type "explorer" ... that's it! If that doesn't work, do the same thing but type "control" into the run new task field. That opens control panel where you can uninstall ExplorerPatcher, then start explorer... then go download and update ExplorerPatcher.
@@torguy5763You're watching a video for tools that makes the Windows experience much better and you can't even "Ctrl+Shift+ESC and type 'explorer' " ?! Well good luck finding something else lol
Wouldn't it be nice if the ExplorerPatcher had a button for setting all configuration switches to the "Windows 10" style setting? So anyone upgrading from Win 10 to 11 would instantly get a desktop that looks as much as the old one as possible, without having to change dozens of settings manually.
Excellent app. I remember first buying it when it was start 8. It perfectly returned the 7 style start menu to win 8 and allowed you to boot straight to windows desktop rather than the full screen nonsense that win 8 forced you to boot to in the early releases.
Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!! My number one reason I hated Windows 11 was the inability to expand the Taskbar and this install solved it. On windows 10 I could have 100 icons on the Taskbar and you can expand the task bar and see them all at once. Now I can do the same with Windows 11. Thank You.
I'm very glad to see a ton of windows 7 options (I think that was the peak of their UI design), the fact that everything on windows 11 seems to just be a convoluted method of opening those windows has been a big pain in the butt. I used the discount code to activate my windows, by the way! Had no idea you could get the single use OEM keys for cheap.
I been using Windows Tweaker forever. I used to use Open Shell, I think I'll use it on my Windows 11 PC's, the Win 11 Start Menu is nearly useless compared to the Win 19 Start Menu. Explorer Patcher is going to be added now! Thanks. EDIT: I meant Win 10 Start Menu, not Win 19!
I was seriously thinking about using something like this since I just built a new PC using a 14 gen CPU. I would have stayed on win 10 but that damn scheduler forced my hand. Now like you said and it's something I thought about, if there's a win update and it breaks something I really don't want to spend the time fixing things. I'm a set it and forget it kind of ass hat. As I was setting up win 11 I really didn't get lost. Yeah, it's a different way of going about things and typing all the crap out to find what you're looking for is annoying but once I learn it, I think I'll be ok. But after watching these tutorials it is tempting to revert back to the better times lol.
Can't imagine how the developers at Microsoft manage to work with the Win11 cr*p on their machines. They're the first ones affected, it's even worse than Android in many points! Still using a mix of 8.1 and 10, both with classicshell. Only way to make it palatable and usable. Only using older machines, they work, they'll keep on working till they're dead. Eyeing Mint more and more
4 months later, here i am. right clicking taskbar, and hitting properties brings up a window that freezes and crashes out. patcher is still working sure. but i can NOT get it to open properties anymore. which is bad. since uninstalling, then reinstalling didnt solve the issue nor did a beta release work. any suggestions? virus software has not removed any files since the last time it did i added it back, and told it not to again lol.
I actually preferred the Windows Vista file Explorer to Windows 7's. The bottom preview pane and original introduction of Libraries was honestly really good on Vista. Windows 7 backpedaled on libraries a bit, (they're still usable even on 11, but you need to enable and configure it), and 7 moved some stuff around from Vista. While 7's taskbar was better than Vista, Vista's explorer was just fantastic. If only these guys could implement some "Windows 6" features. ;x
I used Windows vista a lot because of the looks and windows xp just for the performance when i really needed... And when i switched to windows 7 it felt so great! but had lack of somethings that vista had BUT you could enable them ... they were hidden (─‿‿─)
I cannot stand Windows 11 and its new UI design. Micro$oft thinks everybody is on a phone. Business side, we've been switching to Linux distros for many because of MS changes and constant interference. MS Doesn't seem to care in regards to usaabilty etc where all I want is something that works without needless changes. I use Windows where I have to but stick to Windows 10
Or…… people can learn to just live with the changes like every other operating system or switch to Mac or Linux lol 😂 A few repair shops are gonna get people using this crap and then have to explain to the customer that it’s because they use stuff like this that their computer has errors or breaks after one update 🤣
Man, thank god for 4am and randomly finding this vid. honestly wished id stayed on win 10 as win 11 is so fucking slow. my pc used to boot completely COLD boot within 8-12 seconds with the same startup etc i have now which has now changed to 20 seconds or more. (do have a dual boot) but even after the initial selection of which boot drive i aim to use its still slow af.
I realize they're a sponsor, but is there ANY chance those WhoKeys Windows OEM keys are legal? I get that people buying those may not face legal action, but Microsoft doesn't provide OEM keys to any companies for under $23...
MS can say they don't like it and that it goes against their terms, but that doesn't mean it isn't legal... beyond that, I don't care what they think. They could put a stop to this if they truly cared... but I've been using grey keys for over a decade and they just werk.
The right click on desktop and "show more options" display exactly the same stuff if you look at it 😂. Just with the old UI. People be really picky about windows. When they probably got it for free and it's their only option 😂
@@teksyndicate but let's be real, you don't need all that. Windows 11 is not finished, and I wouldn't trust my pc to be modded by some guy software I found on github. I agree on some debloating, desabling telemtrics and uninstalling some useless apps. But changing the way windows and the UI works is just asking for problems.
Be aware, Explorer Patcher nags to update at least once a week, and will have unintended consequences if you put it on a VM... and it tends to also cause windows to crash ... ALOT. Although they may have fixed it since. You have been warned. I have resorted to a few strategic registery mods that do the same thing as EP without the hassle.

Just found you, very entertaining and interesting/informative and a great sense of humor and pleasing voice to listen to! Subscribed! Greeting from Austria
I like how when you have System settings by itself, as you have it set, the Windows edition still says Windows 10 on the right but Windows 11 Pro on the left lol.
I'm always wondering, who are these people making these terrible changes? Are they doing it so later they can bring them back? Or are they just stupid? Who knows..
I have no idea... I feel like the ui team at MS has an extremely low opinion of their audience... or they, themselves, are deeply stupid and think this is good.
The answer is a lot more insidious. They don't want you to be able to repair your own things, software or hardware-wise. Like, Zoomers nowadays either don't know how to use a proper computer, and teaching them isn't incentivized.
Unfortunately it's not just Microsoft... The Google Android team has also caught the "change random things each update and remove old options" bug. Just seems to be how companies who are trying to make a bunch of money on your data do things anymore.
This looks pretty cool, I might end up giving it a try. I ran into this scenario a few weeks ago where I had finally gotten used to daily driving Linux, so switching back to Windows was odd. I used to consider the Windows File Explorer to be really good, but now having tried others, I take back that statement. I ended up finding out that KDE Dolphin is available for Windows, so I just installed that and use it instead since that is my new preferred file explorer.
This is where i want to go as a power user LOL. If you are a power user you don’t need this nonsense software to so called improve the os. It was entertaining to watch this nonsense though so good video.😂
Windows 11 has had the [Show Taskbar Labels ___] for some time now. I'd much rather prefer the one icon to rule them all versus the Vista "show 12 outlook icons in every place where icons can show" method Different strokes for different folks.
Modding your entire windows system, breaking multiple things in the process, just for a update to drop and revert all that to default lol. And the amount of bloat you now have from different apps changing windows 😂 I would be surprised if it didn't blue screen or lag
Love this software, but I don't use it anymore, often when Windows Updates has been installed the software will make Explorer.exe to keep on crashing on you and other weird bugs, and the only way to fix it, from what I have found, is to rename the setup file to ep_uninstall.exe and then you have to wait for an updated version of ExplorerPatcher and reinstall that. Too much hassle when it fails.
I was loosing my mind over the contextual menu thing. What a blunder of a change by Microsoft. It added an extra unnecessary step to so many things and went against the grain of decades of built up muscle memory. I'm so glad I finally found a way to disable it. I haven't been this annoyed with windows since they tried to get rid of the start menu.
That is impossible due to the monolithic design of Windows, and Windows becomes increasingly difficult to customize with each major release, to the point that you can practically no longer customize almost anything by default, being the same as macOS in that aspect, long gone are the days of wild theming on WinXP and earlier.
You never metioned the best missing feature from Windows 10 - the custom Toolbars option when you right-click the taskbar. On Windows 10, I use it for 99% of my work. It is rare that I use the start menu. Unfortunately, the Toolbars feature does not allow shortcuts for UWP apps.
"Airplane Mode - come on Im on a Desktop" 😂 exactly my first thought when I saw it on my heavy AIO cooled PC PS: now resizing my windows feels perfect. Having them curved I was like where am I suppose to aim to resize it just felt so wrong.
I've used explorer patcher for a few years but had to stop using is because when it crashes it deletes all of my application shortcuts from the taskbar. In the words of Worf when Locutus asked, "Why do you resist the Borg? We only wish to raise quality of life." Worf: 'I like my species the way it is."
The only really bad thing Microsoft did with Windows 11 was the hiding of third party software in the right click menu. Especially for things I love to use like 7-zip. May they reconsider the harm they have done to the user in Win12?

I mean, I still use Windows 10 on my main rigs and I still run this... but some laptops and such come with Windows 11, so I used that as the demo for this video, because there are more options.
When I found myself constantly fighting with 11 and tinkering to make it work like I want it to do, something ticked in me and now I'm a Linux user. Arch, btw. I mean, the entire point of Windows is that it should be user friendly, is it not? And if you have to tinker, might as well tinker with Linux.
That's admirable and all, but 99% of users use computers for the programs/applications, and most of the best ones run better on windows. I'd prefer 100% app compatability with hiccups on the os rather than a 100% crisp os but with hangups and workarounds needed for programs.
@@Resanctify I can understand that, but personally I didnt use Photoshop under Windows anyways and I was surprised to learn that all my favorite games work just by pressing the play button in Steam. I think that I'll just run Windows in a VM if I ever need something that only runs on Windows. By the way, my last straw to switch was inability to move the task bar on Windows 11.

Power efficiency, hybrid processors with performance and efficiency cores are made in unison with microsost's updates, I don't think Linux is getting that same level of compatability yet. Windows and upcoming intel(maybe amd) processors are going to be amazing on portables. I travel, so I try to reduce even the desktop's power usage, that 70w Nvidia ADASFF card is my target.
Tried using this but Bitdefender keeps flagging different processes as malware, reading more comments about how this breaks the setup if Microsoft pushes an update I think I'm just gonna uninstall this and look for an alternative. Shame, all things considered it did seem like a nice tool to have, but I'd rather not brick my system or have to do a full wipe/reinstall of windows like some users here say they had to do.
I'd just whitelist it in bitdefender and not worry about things breaking... worst case, if your computer loads and the screen is blank... just press ctrl+shift+esc and "run new task"... type control and uninstall it... or type "explorer" to try to load it normally.
I just upgraded to Windows 11. For the most part the GUI doesn't bother me. However, one of the few things I really missed from Windows 10 was the ribbon in File Explorer, so I was ecstatic to get that back. ...but, bringing that back made me lose the tab option in File Explorer. In Windows 10, I had downloaded a feature called QTTabBar. I assumed I would need it in Windows 11, but I found that the tab feature was baked in, so I uninstalled it since it wasn't necessary. Activating the Windows 10 Ribbon seems to revert to some version of File Explorer in Windows 10 that doesn't allow the tabs in File Explorer. After installing QTTabBar, I notice no change and no option to open multiple tabs in File Explorer vs having to open multiple folders as individual folders. Is there another setting I can change within this Explorer Patcher to give me the best of both worlds, multiple tabs within File Explorer and the Windows 10 ribbon, or is there something within Windows settings I can change?
@@teksyndicateif it's like, video editors or photoshop or something, there's a lot of really good open source versions that you can test drive on windows before making the full switch. I gave up and switched to Linux and I've been happy ever since. The problem with these "tweaks" is system stability, where a Windows update will render the patch useless and worse, crash Explorer.
True, but the same goes to Linux. When a system update comes & breaks something, you either fix it yourself or wait for someone to fix it on the internet. This is especially the case in rolling release distros. I love them 🐧 🐧 tho.
@@teksyndicate tbf, at that point you are battling a system that you paid for that doesn't want you to customize it. It's just a better user experience these days.
Did they bring over pieces of Windows 10, or did they have to recode stuff from scratch, or are some of these features still there and hidden in Windows 11, but locked away?

Many thankjs for this! Explorer Patcher and OpenShell make Windows 11 usable. Of course, 24H2 may break this because Microsoft doesn't want their users to customize Windows 11 to use features of Windows 7-10 on 11. :-P
Will I be able to move the taskbar to the left or right of the screen? I have 3 screens and my preference is with the taskbar on the right side of the left screen. The middle one is 3440x1440 so I like to keep it clean and when I watch a movie, I put the taskbar all the way to the left so it's out of sight altogether. I also use 7+ Taskbar Tweaker to make the bar narrow and unobtrusive. Apparently this is compatible with ExplorerPatcher, but I just need to clarify about the positioning. Thanks!
It's funny how you say 'fix' for things that are 'not broken' just because they're different from before. I agree that there should be a settings page somewhere to easily change it back in Windows itself, but anyway... I tried the new things with Windows 11 over a year ago and found they're really not bad. I've been using my PC without any hassle since then, without any modifications. Well, that's not entirely true; I did put the Start menu where it belongs using the settings in Windows for that-no need to use third-party software. If Microsoft never changes anything in Windows, people say Windows is a sh#t OS, and they're moving to Linux or buying a Mac. Then when Microsoft makes a few changes, the same people say Windows is a sh#t OS, and they're moving to Linux or buying a Mac. Go figure. I guess people are hard to please. But nice video, easy to follow and you show what every change you making is doing in Windows.

I definitely think the rounded edges from windows 11 work better. Comes with a lot of patches to make gaming and peripherals work well right off the bat, and is run by effectively *the* guy who's at the forefront of making games run well on Linux.
@@teksyndicate Too much hassle, not worth it.
i never had an issue with startallback, more features too i think
This is why I don't use apps like this. WindowBlinds was the same way...

I've been dragged kicking and screaming into Windows two-digits, thanks for making the change easier on my retro infused brain.
Eyeing Mint more and more
4 months later, here i am. right clicking

freezes and crashes out. patcher is still working sure.
but i can NOT get it to open properties anymore.
which is bad. since uninstalling, then reinstalling didnt solve the issue
nor did a beta release work. any suggestions?
virus software has not removed any files since the last time it did
i added it back, and told it not to again lol.
If only these guys could implement some "Windows 6" features. ;x
Vista was so similar to 7... I think people would have loved it if computers had more ram back then.
yeah MS was just jumped the gun to quickly for it lol. Same problem Windows 8 & 8.1.
Vista was great after the second service pack was installed, followed by relaxing some of the settings.
I used Windows vista a lot because of the looks and windows xp just for the performance when i really needed... And when i switched to windows 7 it felt so great! but had lack of somethings that vista had BUT you could enable them ... they were hidden (─‿‿─)
Now we need the same for task manager and device manager.
Or…… people can learn to just live with the changes like every other operating system or switch to Mac or Linux lol 😂
A few repair shops are gonna get people using this crap and then have to explain to the customer that it’s because they use stuff like this that their computer has errors or breaks after one update 🤣
Damn, can't use that tool on Windows Insider Canary 26212
The right click on desktop and "show more options" display exactly the same stuff if you look at it 😂. Just with the old UI. People be really picky about windows. When they probably got it for free and it's their only option 😂
depending upon what you click on, there are fewer options... unless they updated it.
The windows 10 taskbar code is going to be removed in future versions of windows 11
Never fail to learn something useful whenever you upload Logan. Cheers
Sorry, but it's useless bloat, and for once, bloat is used in its actual meaning...

Micro$oft to buy ExplorerPatcher and destroy it in 3..2..
I ended up finding out that KDE Dolphin is available for Windows, so I just installed that and use it instead since that is my new preferred file explorer.
really ? there is a windows version of dolphin fm ? i almost 13 years if using kde i just find it out

Windows 11 has had the [Show Taskbar Labels ___] for some time now.
I'd much rather prefer the one icon to rule them all versus the Vista "show 12 outlook icons in every place where icons can show" method
Different strokes for different folks.
Modding your entire windows system, breaking multiple things in the process, just for a update to drop and revert all that to default lol. And the amount of bloat you now have from different apps changing windows 😂 I would be surprised if it didn't blue screen or lag
watch me do it to every system and not get bluescreens and lag.
I have to fix your title:
"Windows sucks - period"
This is great! We NEED more customization programs like this. Make Windows more like LINUX!!!
"Airplane Mode - come on Im on a Desktop" 😂 exactly my first thought when I saw it on my heavy AIO cooled PC
PS: now resizing my windows feels perfect.
Install Linux, that's what I did, made all my MS Blues go away.....
Good for you, except this video isn't about Linux huh?
The only really bad thing Microsoft did with Windows 11 was the hiding of third party software in the right click menu. Especially for things I love to use like 7-zip. May they reconsider the harm they have done to the user in Win12?
It's the fault of the 3rd party application that hasn't updated to fit win11 new context menu. I use WinRar and it shows up in the new context menu.
@@Yaqins 😂 I didn't know Microsoft had a long game plan for it. It sure wasn't that apparent to me at least. So much double, trippel stuff in Microsoft. I hope they never kill the desktop focus. But sometimes I wonder about the Windows future

Lets make Win11 be like Win10 instead of just using Win10....
Games and emulators,(50% of games aren't on steam and even most games on steam aren't steamOS ready) the best graphics drivers arrive first and sometimes only to windows(depending on the model of the gpu, some have been stuck with a bad driver forever, just no interest in developing the linux version).
Power efficiency, hybrid processors with performance and efficiency cores are made in unison with microsost's updates, I don't think Linux is getting that same level of compatability yet.
It took you far too long to put that Edge shortcut into the Recycling Bin
valid criticism.

@@teksyndicate The way those discount sites work is someone hacks/steals a large OEM base keygen and they generate keys. They are stolen. They often do stop working when MS bans them. I don't care, I've bought them myself. But you should be letting people know that it's sketchy
I gave up and switched to Linux and I've been happy ever since. The problem with these "tweaks" is system stability, where a Windows update will render the patch useless and worse, crash Explorer.
so... that takes 2 minutes to fix.
Windows patches will fade out whenever windows forces you to update to the latest thing.
