Around the 13:37 mark he says it would help heal the Arberrys if Travis were to be paroled and to atone. How dare he say that?! The Arberys have already spoken and they’ve stated what they want. He doesn’t speak for them. Then he claims around 15:40 that Travis being released early would give him the opportunity to help the country heal from decades of discrimination. How would Travis make POC feel better about discrimination? Is he suggesting Travis will become an activist for minority rights? If anything, Travis’s entitled behavior on the day he profiled Arbery and took his life is a reminder that well-connected people feel emboldened to misbehave with impunity, and then Travis took the witness stand and told lie after lie after lie. Terrible arguments from this attorney. Wow.
Did his lawyer believe these were good arguments? If so, he was perfect for the McMichaels because this thinking is what made all this happen. I thought lawyers could read the room. This guy did a poor job of arguing for a reprieve for his client.
What everyone misses tho, is that less than two weeks before they murdered Ahmaud, the McMichaels were told by the property owner (and in the presence of police) that Ahmaud wasn’t suspected of stealing anything, a white couple was. And that he had never been informed not to trespass. And that he’d never so much as touched anything in the house. He just walks thru and looks around every so often. As did MANY people. It’s on record and was testified to in court. I think 2/10 this happened and they killed him 2/22. So they knew they had no business with him whatsoever, and that the owner didn’t need them white knighting his property. But they chose to go after him with guns anyway. That renders everything his attorney just said to be bullshit.

How dare this disgusting defence attorney claim "this was not a case involving torture" - of course it was. Mr Arbery was tortured by these 3 men when they chased him with their pick-up trucks until he could run no more. Robbie Bryan confirm that the murdered man was exhausted and could run no more. Imagine what it must have been like for him being chased by armed men in pick-up trucks, one with a confederate flag on the number plate, running him off the road and continually blocking his means of escape; if that wasn't torture, I don't know what is.
To reduce the death of Ahmaud to a fight over a gun is NERVE. Travis deserved and received life without parole plus 20. Should have thought of his son before he blindly followed his dad.

@Ike, I don't think he knew his actions would send him to prison. The prosecutor asked him during cross exam if he was nervous because he thought he was going to jail, and Travis said, "No." I think Travis believed he was right. In his twisted mind, Ahmaud was supposed to stop running and allow Travis to detain him. In Travis's mind, Ahmaud didn't have any rights that Travis was obligated to respect. He didn't even think Ahmaud had the right to live.
But, McMichael isn't on trial for 99 good acts but one BAD act, the indiscretion that needlessly and callously resulted in death. Someone must be held to account for the funeral and this is the end result, accountability for that funeral. When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.
He mentions that we still don’t know what Ahmaud was doing in that house. What an irrelevant comment. He’s still trying to blame Ahmaud for what happened. Wow.
Those arguments are just desperate and sickening.
Did his lawyer believe these were good arguments? If so, he was perfect for the McMichaels because this thinking is what made all this happen. I thought lawyers could read the room. This guy did a poor job of arguing for a reprieve for his client.
We still don’t know what he was doing in the house? We’ll never know…they killed the guy that would have given you that answer.
I just could not agree with you, I was astonished by his comments and the comments of the father who said he was good man, seriously!
These "men" don't deserve a chance at redemption. Why didn't they try to help Ahmaud while he was lying there dying? Because their intent was for him to die right from the outset of their heinous crime!

Hopefully these harsh sentences will give those wanting to be vigilantes pause for thought. If you really think a crime has been committed, you can always call the police. We have way to many people that are wannabe cops. Packing heat and itching for someone to shoot.
