@mtv-vevoRAYE is slept on and I don’t understand why, her album, her tour, her singles she had in the past. That young lady has IT!!! that’s a mystery that I still can’t figure out since based off in the caliber of work she’s put she should be a lot bigger
@mtv-vevo i commented something about this too! escapism was exactly what pop music needs and i really hope raye releases similar music. I just gave prada a listen and while it’s not something i see going viral in the usa, it does have a 2010s european club music kind of vibe. Not something i’d purposely put on though, while escapism is something i still like to listen to even a year later.
I need to just mention Raye, PinkPanthress, Renee Rapp, Spencer Southerland, Caroline Polachek, and Chappell Roan. They absolutely killed it last year with their debuts and Caroline Polachek was ABSOLUTELY ROBBED FOR BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM AT THE SCAMMYS.
No really!! Like easy to consume, tasty for a minute but afterwards you’re like “what’s next” or “i’m still hungry”. The girls ain’t feeding us no more!!
I think another reason why we don’t idolize these pop artists as much today is just because times have changed. We have the world at our fingertips our attention spans have gotten shorter, there are constantly new shiny things to rave about, we’re not forced to consume what comes up on our tv. Things will never be the same as it was in the 2010s
You hit the nail on the head for real. I think that point alone is a huge reason as to why things will never fully be the same especially when it comes to pop, stardom and celebrities
I disagree the reason why people don't idolize these celebrities anymore is because we now how problematic a lot of these celebs are. In the past no one knew anything beyond the tabloids.
i kinda miss the time we were forced to listen or watch something tho. It let us discover many more artists and genres of songs. Some songs i wouldn't re-listen to it but i have to until i kinda like that song
I feel like we lost a lot of the lore when social media dawned. Once we got to see more and more of our favorite celebrities and pop stars they became less of a fantasy. I feel that is why Beyonce is someone who people stick around for, she still gives us everything and she does not really have a social media presence. She maintained that lore and people cannot predict what she will give us next.
"pop stars became less of a fantasy". have you been living under a rock, and somehow never heard of Swifties? Social media has done the exact opposite of what you claim. Its exacerbated celebrity culture to new extremes - where people feel confident in expressing their delusions and absurd obsessions because they witness and/or join the many others online doing/feeling the same.
Britney Spears and Michael Jackson are the two names that always enter my mind when I think of pop music, because them two were literally the definition of pop and two of the greatest of all time
You forgot to mention a pretty big factor: nostalgia-bait, EVERYONE is using nostalgia and samples (that are sooo unnecessary) to sell, i read a tweet that said it's sad the newer generations are gonna grow without characteristic traits cause all they do is emulate and reference things that have been done before and it's so true 😕 we need someone that's not afraid to try to create new unseen things beyond “sex sells” and religious mockery for shock value
I really wanna do a video on nostalgia baiting and how it’s taking over. In music, heavily in movies! This is an excellent topic i’m more than willing to expand on in a video
@@CamrynSuzanne please do! It's a thing that has permeated all the culture, whether it's music or movies, the longing for “better, simpler times”, it's really interesting
i think a reason why t swift could regain such an extreme, extreme power (something you can't tell me she didn't) is because she is one of the only ones that actually still has the vibe of a popstar from the early 2010 (big tour, prominent boyfriend, lots of new and exciting music, long career) and she really feeds into that nostalgia that many people are experiencing (for example with her rerecordings)
Taylor Swift saw the most notable spikes in influence, popularity, and significance within the last 2 years - an era she WASNT EVEN RELEASING NEW MUSIC. No one even admits her last album midnights is her best work, or frankly even a great album. That inherently means theres something else going on all of a sudden other than music. I personally just think shes become the Stanley cup of the musical industry where social media has led young people to compete in obsessing over her in order to fit in. I promise you this, that her place at the top will be very short lived. People will of course still be fans to an extent, but she will CERTAINLY not have a decades long influence over the direction of pop music. Especially considering only one demographic of people listen to her music - white, straight, cis girls under the age of 35.
@@LD-tn6ffactually, with the amount of hate towards her that comes with the popularity, I’ve seen more people hate her than like her and more people hate fans of her as well. I am a teenage girl who loves her music and i get made fun of, especially by guys, because of it. I don’t think too many people are listening to her to “fit in” because of how much some people will make fun of you for liking her but because they genuinely love her music.
@@LD-tn6ff I'm not white, straight, or cis. I'm the biggest swiftie. I know many people who don't fit into your fake standard either who also like her. @@insthehuffle calm down Karen. she’s a global star with millions upon millions of fans. Just because you’re an anomoly, doesn’t change the fact that 95% plus of her audience is the same exact demographic of people - particularly in the US. Bragging that you’re in that remaining
Lana del Rey isn‘t exactly a popstar but her album Born To Die changed pop music. Her sound was so different and had a major influence on the genre. She‘s also still super popular despite her sound not catering to what‘s currently trendy.
Sabrina Carpenter is definitely stardom material. Her voice, her songwriting, her personality, her style, HER MUSIC! Everything about her is Popstar worthy. I’ve known her since her Disney debut, I’ve listen to all her albums, and I’m so glad that people are finally recognizing her talent.
@@bodhisattva2348 Considering she’s been in the industry for nearly a decade now, she’s bound to have done a lot of reinventing of herself. In my opinion, she has evolved wonderfully, and so has her music. You might think you’ve seen it done before, but Sabrina’s uprising is certainly a special one. Despite how slow it might be, we’re still at the beginning of her career heightening. She’s bringing something new to the table that some people just don’t see yet.
Any person who says this about her is feeding of a parasocial relationship. I really tried to get into her stuff but tbh I highly doubt she would do music without the fame from Disney.
I definitely think Sabrina is on the rise, and I think she's here to stay. She has a lot of qualities that people really enjoy, she has a relatable energy to her. She really does everything her own way. She combats controversy with confidence and she's so self-assured. I like that, in regards to her music, she's able to hit a couple different key components, she does the upbeat and catchy thing really really well, but also, on her emails I can't send album, the songwriting was the best I've ever seen from her. And let's just be real, she has the look... like come on... She's gorgeous... and she has successfully (in my opinion) hit her own niche style that suits her and separates her from the masses well. The chunky boots, heart dresses and mini skirts, she's got her own vibe in the making. Like, someone could dress up as her for Halloween and you'd definitely know who they were dressed as. But yeah, I totally adore her if that wasn't obvious LOL
As an upcoming pop artist I think it’s really hard to break through the boundary of people’s attention spans BUT ALSO! Because these artists that blew up in the late 2000s and 2010s are still huge like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé it makes it very hard to take the spotlight away from them, leaving little space for new artists to emerge. It is an exhausting cycle and it does make me sad tbh 😢
@@TONIIMUSIC I think more the issue is the pendulum is slowly starting to swing back to rock and metal. With so many pop, rap, and country acts either doing covers or asking singers, guitar players etc to be on there albums. Even when not on the radio many rock and metal acts are playing at some of the biggest and oldest festivals right now in the world.
Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Ariana Grande are some of the last pop giants really doing pop like no one. It's sad that it's fading away....😢
im definitely extremely biased, but i think olivia is definitely a contender for a big popstar, and i think the guts tour has made that much more obvious. she's really grown so much since sour, both in confidence and sound, and with the way she's unafraid to explore different genres and expand upon her own musicality (along with her overwhelming standing in the industry already), i really hope to see her grow to the levels we're so used to from the 2000s and 2010s.
I literally had to force myself to listen to her new album because im already so bored of her. She appears so ordinary or dime-a-dozen, and while her voice is technically "good", it's CERTAINLY nothing unique. Imagine thinking Olivia is on par to people like Michael Jackson or Madonna. Do you really think Olivia offers a decades long cultural impact on music that hasn't already been done to death?
@@LD-tn6ff ”Imagine thinking Olivia is on par to people like Michael Jackson or Madonna.” Nobody said that. Do you always respond to people praising an artist they like with annoying condescension?
@@marianaflores2592 But who's original nowadays? It's so so difficult to make an original track when there's sooo many, we're so oversaturated that we don't think anyone's "good" anymore. Olivia is good at what she does, I don't think she's absolute one in a million star quality but her energy is contagious. Her lyrics are written well and her tracks have the perfect vibe, like it's so easy to relate to her emotions because she's genuine. She's just started out her career too, and I think we need to give these singers a chance. Some songs are questionable, yes but most of you guys just follow a band wagon when critiquing someone instead of actually js letting go of any prejudice. Also she's one of the few singers who writes their own songs, and so well too. She has a great essence in her music and stage presence. Like she emulates the feelings she sings about perfectly even if she's "over" the situation.
I remember ppl saying stuff like this specifically regarding when Ariana and Taylor were coming up an how it wasn’t the 90s anymore. Given time you’ll forget people weren’t born stars and weren’t always excepted into the community for being too modern. That being Sabrina is the next one. We lv her she’s going to be it, rn she’s going stylized but she has super powerful vocals if you look back a little
I really feel like Dua Lipa has so much potential to become a true pop icon when we look back at the music of today. She's already had numerous huge hits like Levitating, Don't Start Now, One Kiss, New Rules, Cold Heart, even Dance The Night from Barbie. Her latest album 'Future Nostalgia' was a perfect pop album with strong 80s synth influence while still being very modern and I think that combination of eras of pop was a big part of it's success. I also think she has that strong sense of 'image' (from how she previews her music (being very mysterious about Houdini) to fans and how she exists on social media) that big pop artists had in the 2000s and 2010s but is sort of lacking in artist's now (besides my girl Olivia Rodrigo she has purple locked in). Also no shade to the Olivia's and Tate's of pop but I do sorta believe Dua's age (not that she's old by any means but she's 28 compared to Olivia/Tate who are literally 20) might play a role in this as her voice + image has had more time to mature. I won't hide that I'm a Dula Peeper which might make me a liiiitle biased but I do believe she has so much more potential and talent to be shown even after already having numerous global hits
dua is the IT factor of our generation, her music sounds very different from the other new pop girls, because as you commented her age and time in the industry has helped her shaped her identity as a pop artist, needless to say I'm excited for her new album
‘Future Nostalgia’ by Dua Lipa indeed marked the most recent notable moment in pop. Its critical acclaim and commercial success showcase its huge impact.
@@user-bc5mv2ot8k I'm a taylor fan but that album is not her best. Sure, Anti-hero became a radio hit but that's it. For me it seems like people barely remember that era since taylor herself moved on really quickly from it and kept on releasing re-recordings instead of promoting Midnights. However, Taylor was one of the most important figures in pop music in the past few years. Her re-recordings were all great successes and The Eras Tour was very memorable.
These days it feels like Dua Lipa is my pick for pop icon specifically. When it comes to pop as a genre… k-pop has definitely grabbed my attention better than most things released these days. like you want catchy songs you can sing and dance too? It’s gonna be k-pop
Not to discredit her talent, i’m a huge swiftie, but i think the fact that the industry has changed so that new pop stars aren’t rising is the reason Taylor Swift keeps growing and is still here. She’s the only ‘’og’’ pop star who never stopped, she outlived them all, so now she’s pretty much got the pop star monopoly until she decides to let it go
I disagree, she's on her way to be considered a legend a this point but no longer a player in the game, people don't see her as competition because she's already well established that's why people say pop music is dying because they think there's no new "worthy" popstars in the making. They want new pop music from new pop artists.
I honestly keep thinking about why and how is she so big now? Because I never saw anyone talking about her or their music as much as I saw people talking about Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato... Like where was this huge fan base years ago? Taylor is really talented (I'm not a huge fan of hers but I can't deny it), but her being the "biggest artist" now feels so random. I never saw people talking about her until 2022-23 tbh 😅
bro i always hear people praise taylor this way but never in my life have i met someone irl who said they listen to taylor lmao. Like do yall just keep it a secret until someone brings up her name im so confused?? like i had no idea taylor was that big until her tour started and all the white girls were going crazy
I think Ellie Goulding REALLY helped define the sound of the 2010’s. Think about it… Lights, Love Me Like You Do, Burn, I Need Your Love, Outside…. EVERYONE knows and loves these songs 🔥
Back in 2010, my 80 years old grandma knew who Katy Perry, Beyonce, Brytney Spears and Lady Gaga were because the girlies were putting in the work. They were performing on live TV shows with large audience, doing radio interviews right, left and center (I'm from Europe). Nowadays she would have NO CLUE who Olivia Rodrigo or SZA are, even Dua Lipa and Harry Styles I fear. Even I, a very invested pop listener, can't name a single song of Bad Bunny or Sabrina Carpenter. Because the promo game has changed, and labels will not pay the money to get them performing accross the world anymore. It's all about having a moment on tiktok, and spotify playlisting. Very very few will reach a wide demographics and become pop icons now.
exactly this is the first time I’m hearing of the artist Tate and I haven’t seen Sabrina Carpenter since 2014 on Disney Channel I didn’t even know she made music! and IM 18 YEARS OLD. The pop scene definitely is not what it was when we were kids in the 2000s and 2010s
Im in my 20s and i dont even know a single song of this bad bunny guy, i only know him because i saw pics of him and kendal jenner on my insta explore page (i don't follow the kardashians tho, they just pop out randomly there). I am in Europe and artists like Sza don't really blow up here so yeah, i don't know her songs too. I check who wins the grammys every year and sadly i don't know most of these people, only their names, like victoria monet because she works with ariana grande. Dua was quite a huge artist and her future nostalgia really resonated with me (so as Positions) because it was my 'fall in love' era, yk, a covid relationship. But i don't think people in late 40s know dua's name. I really grieve pop and i don't think it can be saved, ariana did come back but her track wasn't that big of a bop and i think her album will be more like a beyonce's lemonade (her album revolves around the theme of sad events in her life, marriage breaking apart) than TUN or even Sweetener (which i really like because this is my aesthetic graal, i am stuck at nude colors era and forever will be. God, even Taylors albums seem more nieche now and she doesn't have as big songs as her 'i knew you were trouble' or 'wildest dreams', 'blank space'.
2012 was the last big shift that significantly altered how people listen to music, music became more accessible than ever, both to produce and to listen. Which devolved the dominance of pop and alternative music. These things can still find audiences (sometimes more then ever), but it's much easier to not hear about or engage with things if you don't want. And these shifts have been happening since the 90s with the birth of the internet and continue today.
Olivia Rodrigo and Tate McRae. 1. They got good songs and lyrics. 2. They have the spark of lyrics actually are able to relate to. 3. I just love them as people, they sound like great people.
Pop girlies like Tate, Olivia, and Sabrina are still developing their styles and their voices are still maturing. I feel we need to give these girls so more time. Tate is actually a decent lyricist as well as Oliva. Plus, they are all very young and some have experienced less in life than others. Life experiences influences music heavily so give em a min. We must also recognize that music has changed. We see the changes in rap, and RnB, and now we see it in pop. We cannot complain about a change that we as audience allowed to occur. If you believe this is half baked pop, then why stream and tune into half-baked pop. Even if it was just one song? we allowed this change so to complain about it is a no.
I would also like to add that many of these artists want to be more expressive and creative and we as consumers don't allow that. Every time an artist tries to evolve into a new style or get deeper with their lyrics or try a new concept etc. the public rejects it immediately, simply because it's not what we are used to. We as consumers limit our artist then complain about it as if they aren't going back in the studio and cooking up something generic because their personal creative piece wasn't received well by the confused and judgmental. We need to allow artist to venture in different genres and creative outlets. This could probably easy the issues we have with music today.
That’s the problem with the pop music these days, we expect them to come out and not already have the it factor but back in the day an artist could never debut without their company making sure the artist is in top shape
@@A.J.0606that’s not really true tho bc if you look at older performances from iconic pop stars…they kind of suck. Their vocals were not it, but they grew! I feel like there’s so much more criticism now to be the best right at the beginning of your career
Also, it really takes time. It took ariana 3-4 albums to find her own sound. Rihanna was always compared to Beyonce in the 2000s. Lady Gaga was blamed for copying Madonna, and those are just a few examples.
Yes, yes yes. A lot of these artists took years and years to get to the global status that they’re at now. Most of these girls didn’t have it handed to them on a platter they had to work for it. However, from their talent was undeniable.
I know she's a rapper and I will never disregard her as a hip-hop artist, but Megan Thee Stallion is DEFINITELY a pop star. She has the look, the talent, and the different personas. Her music always hits.
It’s very difficult for beginner musicians/visual artists to self-promote these days. Many outsiders expect perfection, like amazing choreography, a unique aesthetic, out of beginners who are just starting out and discovering their style. Many people direct their extreme pessimism onto the individual artist themself rather than the huge companies or popular trends-the root problems. In the end, everyone is just discouraged from making art and trying because they’re scared they’ll get bullied off the internet.
first of all, THANK YOU for mentioning Shakira in the 2000s pop music section! for some reason most americans don't really include her in these sort of conversations when she literally opened doors for non-english speakers to have mainstream success in the states. i feel like she's one of those people who you at least know their name, which is extremely impressive considering most of her catalog is in spanish. i feel like the biggest problem right now with pop music is the listeners who don't give anyone a chance to succeed. the biggest examples of this to me would be olivia and tate, cuz i vividly remember how much hate olivia got when drivers license first started to get big until she was successful enough for ppl to actually like her, same thing happening now with tate. i do agree tho that the music isn't comparable to what the girls were giving before the 2020s (except for sabrina, she easily would've been a main pop girl since 2018 if she didn't go from a terrible label to another)
Shakira definitely deserves her flowers! She is one of the best performers period. And I agree, people do always want something to complain about. I think we have to give things some time to stick. It's a transition period we're in. People tend to hate before they join the bandwagon. Like I said, as much as people claim to hate Tate or think she has nothing. The fact she's causing all this conversation says something! She's doing something right.
Yea I love shakira I was a huge fan when her song "Whenever wherever" was released I was about 5 or 6 and I was so invested in her for year's when she was releasing album's Spanish or English I was on it my favorite album from her is "She Wolf" and her self titled album "Shakira" 😭😩
latin pop was so huge in the early 2000s. Shakira, JLo, Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, Thalia, Juanes. people like to skip over it but it was pretty iconic
When Doja Cat FINALLY decides to act right, she’ll be RULING! She sings well, raps well, has her look, the concepts, the statements! SOMEONE GET HER OFF HER PHONE AND LETS SEE😩
she is insanely popular already, it's the fact that she's a horrible person in general that throws me off. she has some amazing songs I won't lie, but knowing what shes like I wouldn't feel good listening to her
Not to mention she creates a lot her own beats and instrumentals! She also has an extremely clever way of sampling from diverse genres to create a new unique sound. She has some producers she works with now, but its how she started before she got famous. Everything was 100% all her. Insanely talented. I stay a fan hoping she gets better. To me she’s on par with my queens Nicki, Beyoncé and Ari, which is rare to see these days.
@@fretti17 yes that’s exactly what throws me off w/ doja, her personality. Coming for her fans, the ppl she associates with. Chronically online. I get that stardom can’t be easy but when you attack your own fans… what’s really going on?

This video was so real. Another new artist that I personally see a huge potential is Chapell Roan, with her album of The Rise and Fall of a MidWest Princess, songs like Good Luck Babe, Red Wine Supernova, Pink Pony Club, Hot to Go are really catchy and memorable, she has a GREAT voice, and a really particular aesthetic. She seems like at some point of the future she'll get more recognition.
100% chapell has the potential for sure i think she’s slightly niche right now. she has a very specific aesthetic and sound (reminiscent of gaga to me ngl) and so i’m not sure how well it meshes with the general public, but i’m excited to watch her grow so rapidly
its also interesting because Ariana actually started off as a pop artist who GREW to her level of greatness that she's at today, she debuted sucessfully, but she wasn't revered as pop music iconography up until Sweetener/Thank U, Next.
Yeah, thank u, next really changed the game. She definitely had some successful singles by that point, but I think thank you next elevated her to completely new height.
she was alr a superstar by the time my everything (her 2nd album) was out. break free, love me harder were everywhere. and her top popstar status came in the dangerous woman era imo
DW and some tracks on my everything cemented her as a pop artist, like the zedd colab she did. But her new sound doesn't actually give the stay quality that TUN gave, positions were a lot more chill and ES will be even more because its more of a story teller album.
The artists during the 90s and early y2k set the bar high, and walked so current artists could run. We won’t ever be able to recreate the pop craze that was in the early 2000s. No one will EVER replicate what Beyoncé, Brittany Spears, Janet Jackson, ETC. did for the culture. However, I don’t believe that takes away from the talent that modern day artists have. There are hidden gems beyond what is shown in the mainstream, and upcoming artists that have yet to be discovered.
I've seen people say its because labels aren't letting artists grow like they used to. They keep pumping them out before they're ready and the fizzle without a long lasting impact
Yeah I think we kinda gotta accept the magic of the 2000s is just that…magic! We had one of a kind pop stars and artists that will Never be able to be replicated. And yes that’s one reason why at the end I wanted to highlight so talent that is apart of this modern day pop gen. Because there is absolutely talent

True, but its always going to have its limits in America because of the language barrier (obviously not all are in Korean but at least the ones I’m used to), I feel like it’s still pretty niche as i feel as though most people here wouldn’t name a k pop band if they were asked for their top pop artist faves

I think Billie deserves her flowers. Her sound is really innovative. In my opinion, she developed her own subgenre with her first album. At least, I don't recall any notable artists with her sound before she blew up. Generally, her songwriting is incredibly mature. Her lyrics are often very profound and feel geniune, and the production of her songs is immaculate. Especially on that first album, her storytelling and sound was so cohesive and well-developed. People shit on her vocals, but I think her softer delivery is very deliberate. It suits her music, it requires more control than people realize, and it's instantly recognizable. Not to mention, her aesthetics are also iconic. Her outfits and hair are distinct in the current pop landscape. She's a global star, with a shit ton of streams and radio hits. She's also got a mountain of accolades. All of this, and she's still in her early twenties. She's already cemented herself as an icon in my opinion... imagine what she will go on to do
I'm not really a fan of her songs (too slow for me), but I can recognize Billie really IS all that. Great music production and melody, great lyrics, identifiable brand/look, amazing vocals, etc. I haven't seen her perform, but she checks all other boxes. To the people that complain about her very light singing voice, it's part of her branding! Makes the audience immediately recognize her songs and stand out. She's one of the first names that come to mind when I think of great current artists. Her fans can be a bit obnoxious tho 😅
Personally, I think Olivia, Sabrina, and Tate have a lot of potential to be prominent in the industry. They all have been in the spotlight for years and Sabrina has been in the industry since she was 15. I think there was a lot of growth and change between Olivia’s debut and GUTS, and the fact that Tate is having so much discourse around her shows people care. Lots of people love and hate Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande for example but that’s because they’re prominent in the industry, which I feel like this could be the beginning for Tate and Olivia. As well as Sabrina when it comes to pop.
Olivia , sabrina , tate etc are not finding immesnse success like 2010s artist is because music is moving too fast. Taylor immaculate success has people thinking ariana , rihanna , katy , dua etc can pull off big numbers in 2024 which is very unlikely because Taylor numbers were always through the roof since 2010,. It be interesting to see how good these big artist do in 2024.

It's crazy how this video is about Pop music but there's this specific part ( 22:10 - where she says that people want originally, effort and quality but when an artist is trying to get to this point people don't even give them the chance to prove themselves worthy) that's so relatable when speaking about rock as well! Old guys say that rock and roll is dead, when there are plenty of new bands out there trying to keep it alive, but they don't even wanna listen to this bands.
i can definitely see sabrina carpenter being a household name. she has it all. lyrics, performance, confidence, the voice, the look, the halloween costume effect, everything. she’s been doing music for a while and just keeps growing
@@jellyrcw12 it means that an artist has something easily recognizable about their image or personal style that can be replicated as a Halloween costume
Yess like I’ve been Supporting Sabrina Carpenter since 2016 and if you want to explore her music, go listen to singular act one and singular act two. she has been putting out pop music
I totally agree with Victoria Monet. I saw her live and i was starstruck. Not many of the new pop girls can sing and dance simultaneously. Victoria did that essentially throughout her entire show. Like literally signing while dancing. I was shook. Her album is varied in sound but cohesive and well put together. (Other albums lately just feel like a bunch of random songs thrown together). She has a jungle theme, retro theme, and brown color aesthetic going on. I seriously can’t recommend her enough. I’m glad she’s starting to get her flowers now. To me dancing is such an important aspect of music/performance that reminds me of the greats like Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson. (Not comparing Victoria to them but u gotta admire her work ethic. It must take so much skill and practice to sing and dance) Edit: Normani too! I made another comment for her :)
@@sosm5709 I think it's focused on western Pop. Plus Kpop isn't the only one with singers who sing and dance. There's other pop musics especially in Asia as well so yeah.
I unfortunately couldn’t go to the concert and I was so upset, but I watched the full thing and she just radiates! She’s so polished, experienced passionate. Sings live. She has the recipe of what a popstar is!! Her image is packaged perfectly like she has it!!
This video is pure gold, finally someone talking facts! Im so tired of people pretending certain artists changed music forever or made iconic things when all they really do is make,as you said, fast food music.
I agree so much with you, especially Tyla, Victoria and Tinashe, they all have THE IT FACTOR, im exited to see what they serve us next. and how come Tinashe and Vic are so criminally underrated, their music is literally AMAZING
I think you nailed it! People don't want a re-make of somebody else. We don't want someone to emulate someone else. We want someone authentic, real, whatever that looks like. Personally I want another Lady Gaga, mixing art with the shock factor + talent. Hopefully we'll get someone soon that sparks a new era for pop music.
That’s what I’m saying. I feel like the new upcoming pop girls know the assignment because they all have different sounds and different styles and personalities that make them stand out from each other and that is a good thing
I feel like Billie Eilish kind of filled that need for a while cause she was just making her music by herself and her brother when she was a teen, now that she's mainstream that effect fades a little and that's the problem now. going mainstream kills the authenticity
I’m surprised Olivia wasn’t mentioned as potential to be a pop main. I’m not even a fan like that but she’s the first person that came to mind. She may not be the dancing performer type like a lot of the rest of them but to me she falls under more of the Taylor Swift, Adele category - where it’s more about the resonance of their music and lyrics. I have a feeling she’ll stand the test of time
Her music is bland break up negative songs. Her lyrics are equivalent to a 7th grader’s text. Not to mention most of her popular songs are not original and are plagiarised. This is coming from someone who use to be her fan.
@@Al3xAckerman Her lyrics add to the fun! I'm guessing youre referencing songs like get him back! but the lyrics being kinda silly is the whole point and enhances the fun beat. I also don't agree with your first point; lacy, all american bitch, teenage dream, making the bed, pretty in't pretty, hope ur ok, jealousy jealousy, ballad of a homeschooled girl... all not about break ups and all great songs with great lyrics imo. Lacy is poetry, all american bitch is the pop punk song of my dreams etc etc
The funniest thing is… this trend has happened in EVERY decade to some extent. There have always been artists of the moment, and legacy artists. Songs in the 50s were under three minutes (in some cases even under 2 minutes) and singles were always the focus. Until artists could provide enough value to bring an album (and cause the medium was the literal album). And another consistency is, labels or companies that invested in artist development (Atlantic, Motown, Interscope), always trumped the other labels and artists of their time. Great video 💖
Ima be honest, I think the K-pop girlies got it at this point. There’s definitely been a shift in what the public expects now when it comes to crazy cheoro, visuals, and sound.
Yep! But I’ll challenge you and say that their market is getting really over saturated right now too. I do also think that it’s heavily emphasizing visuals a lot too, I mean they always have but it feels much worse. And it’s causing so many idols to end their lives and it’s hard. Also, the new idols can’t really sing as well as others (with outliers like Aespa and Nmixx cause whew! 🤧) I think it’s a general problem
Tru but their music is going down in quality in a similar way so soon it’s kinda expected there won’t be any big kpop stars anymore in 10 years. In 2035 there’s probably gonna be a video about the decline of kpop mentioning girls generation, super junior, tvxq, Big Bang, exo, Blackpink, BTS, twice, got7, seventeen, ive, le sserafim, new jeans, etc all wondering where it went wrong
@@kamhardee8558 the K-pop market been over saturated if we’re really talking. I’d say after the 3 gen it just became like a build a bear factory, where most groups didn’t even make it past a year after debut. But even with that said, that’s pretty much the time period it started to STAY in the western market, you know what I mean?? BTS and blackpink pretty much sealed the deal the K-pop is here to stay.
@@Vivi-Violet I’ve definitely noticed the quality is crashing and burning, following TikTok trends and what not. There are very few groups where every member has a strong voice and can sing (shinee, new jeans, tvxq) it’s become a popularity contest more than raw talent for sure.
@@bonbon6.235 it is a bit sad how most of the groups that are notable for having great singers are all older, peaking when the pop industry peaked in the 2000s/2010s. I don’t hate newer groups for not having the same ability, it’s just sad seeing that their companies don’t care about them enough to train them properly.
I think people forget that she was dropping back to back hits for years in the 2010s. I also believe she helped to bring in a new wave of style and videography with her eccentric music videos and performances. Most of her biggest hits have over a billion views on the music videos
Judging by the comments and making my own reflection on the subjects I’ve realized female pop is going to be alright. I even have the feeling that the music industry will be Ruled by female artist primarily✨ The question is are there any male pop stars besides JB, Harry and Shawn?? Haven’t heard of any for the last couple of years… Shawn was the youngest to come up to the scene and it’s been 7-8 years…
Yeah, to be honest, that might be the bigger question at this point because a lot of people aren’t talking about a lot of male artists. Solo artist, at least
@@Me-vn3gzI've followed Conan since his UA-cam channel when he did stationary hauls and covers and stuff and it's been so amazing watching him grow and succeed
My money is on Tyla. She has a style thats her thing and a sound thats like no other, Popiano. Plus she has stage presence and a great voice. Personality tops too
nah. she’s beautiful but poppin off half based on a gimmick (her little dance) screams one hit wonder to me. and has she managed to make an impact on the charts at all yet bc without tiktok aint no one know that girl. IF she gets the right ppl behind her for the long haul she could become the new riri but major labels don’t want to do that long haul stuff anymore so it’s hard to say. she def has the right look for success but beyond that ….
She will probably be just another Tinashe, one hit wonder. She has no aura/personality of her own, except for her little dance. Call me a hater, but it’s the truth. She’s definitely being pushed a lot tho, she had a great management, so maybe that will play a good role. Hope so, I like her
I think there's a resurgence of artist loyalty. When i was in elementary school you had to buy a whole album to hear a song you wanted to own, so usually if you liked it you'd keep buying the same artist. (I have everything hilary duff ever did ) but when i was in middle school to high school digital music became a thing and you could just buy one song. Artists had to try to compete to be that *one song* you'd buy. Then streaming made it so they'd get *one song* on a playlist. The newer generation seems to be ready for artist loyalty again. I mean theyre bringing back physical records, they want cds. They want genuine people who release good music consistently.
I just found your channel and I love it! Appreciate the way you breakdown the criteria before we delve deep into the meaty part. I would be very interested in hearing your take on Kpop overall but maybe also how the "idol" concept is coming to west along with the genre for the last couple of years. Obviously, a lot of things you discussed here apply to the eastern pop market.
Pop music in the 2010s was definitely a peak time. I loved how back then R&B artists collaborated more with pop or EDM artists unlike now. I loved me some Fergie and Black Eyed Peas!!! I wonder how pop will evolve in the 2020s…
Hey makayla girl!!🤩 you bring up such a good point. The collaborations are lacking. Like remember when Beyoncé and Lady Gaga collaborated, the Internet broke. miss it too. It just doesn’t feel the same, I wonder if it’s because we’re getting older
there was some gems in 2010 but not as good as time pass. I think peak late 1990s because there was more variety back then. also sells peak around late 1990s. I felt in 2010s the pop music was get worst. though I am a 90s kid. pop music is first party music. so labels create pop stars. today they just do not have money to create good ones.
@@CamrynSuzannethat collaboration was so iconic and it’s really sad to see the lack of art, meaning, and substance in music today which that song had so much of. You’d think music would be progressing and evolving to be better over time, but to me, a majority of it is getting worse.
@@spark300cTBH, 2010s clubbing, EDM and pop era far surpass 90s pop. That era was peak for Hip Hop and Indie. Mariah was carrying Pop back then. The term “pop” star is so whitewashed. I think artist like “ Bree Runway” are so iconic and really give you what you have been missing in pop but because she’s a dark skinned woman doing pop music she’s not considered
Teaaa… honestly, that’s a whole other conversation that I’d love to do in another video. Because how do we consider certain people pop and not pop? It does tend to favor, white artist versus black artist. I low-key wanted to touch on that but I didn’t want this video to be two hours.
I feel like Bree is not considered much because her music falls flat, it doesn't fully have the spark and pop element that is catchy in some way and not because she's dark skinned lol
@@fdpcompdm you’re welcome to your opinion, but a lot of people may disagree with that statement . I think she is more interesting of an artist then Tate McRae by a long run, no shade to her

Kpop has a similar problem in 4th and 5th gen vocals are a lot less important. Most company care more about dancing and visuals because most groups lip sync now as the standard. I’ve been pleasantly surprised with groups singing live well when most of the time it’s LAR performance, but when it comes to being a vocalist, kpop companies and fans seem to care a lot less. Shout out to Nmixx for being amazing and keeping live singing alive
Kiss of Life and Nmixx are some of the only 4th/5th Gen female Kpop groups that can actually sing live pretty well and prioritize vocals. We need more groups like them in the future
Tyla!!!!! That’s what I think is missing, the stage presence in a lot of these new stars. And Victoria Monet is everything. You hit the nail on the head with them
I think conan and olivia are rly gonna be the next big ones, cuz they already have that gen z brand, especially olivia whos also being known as like an angsty teen girl which is smth i think alot of people want right now because of the death of the pre teen phase. Plus her music (although not groundbreaking) does have its own sound
New viewer here! I think it took the first half of the video for me to realize you were talking about pop stardom and not pop music, and that misalignment of my expectations had me feeling disappointed at first when you weren't breaking down the music itself as I had expected. But I'm glad I stuck around to the end! I enjoyed your take on who's up next, and I'll definitely be checking out some of the artists who are new to me. 😊
There was a lot of annoying ass edm/electronic music in the pop music though… that’s what turned me off… too much. And too much lyrics that went like “ah, ah, ah,” repeating a part of a word or something like that…
I wonder if "best era of pop music" is always the one you experienced as a child and teenager or if there is actually a superior pop music era that people from different generations can agree on 🤔
idk why Madison Beer isn't popping off yet! Her music is sooo good + obsessed with how pretty she is! She's been here for some time now but I have yet to see her skyrocket and become a mainstay in Pop.
Madison isn't mainstream because she doesn't want to be. She hates her old cookie cutter pop songs like Melodies, and Silence Between Songs was a clear departure from mainstream sounds. Envy The Leaves, Ryder, and At Your Worst aren't really the type of songs that the public wants to hear on the radio. I suspect that her career will be more comparable to Lana Del Rey than the main pop girlies. Mainstream pop debut that gradually transitions into more folk/alternative music. And honestly, that suits her best.
@@Rachels7777I like this take. Never listened to Madison Beer untill literally this week. Sweet relief is fantastic and Make you Mine that came out this past week I feel like has such a good current edm pop sound without being attached to David Guetta (and his shitty classic song reworks)
This video made me realize how many of the old stars are still around and dominating pop whereas in the 2000s, I feel like we got a lot of the "fresh" musicians making it big. Taylor Swift and Beyoncé have been around for 20 years and don't let up. And despite some of the newer ones like Olivia Rodrigo and Doja Cat being more popular, none of them have grabbed society by the throat yet. I'm curious how it's going to be by 2030
Doja Cat's type of Pop isn't really "Pop" it more of Pop Rap I guess you can loop her in there tho And Newer "Pop Stars" havent Really had impact as much as Beyonce or Swift is just because they Haven't been around long enough yet Olivia is just 3 Years Doja is 8 Years but didn't get mainstream until 5 years ago
@@CamrynSuzanneBut her more recent songs fair and wild side are R&B. Motivation is 4 yrs ago and it was pretty bland. It's the choreography that had everyone in a chokehold.
I’m a 90s baby & I’ve been resisting adapting to today’s pop music so hard 🥲 but recently I’ve just been obsessed with Tate McRae & Sabrina Carpenter. Tate’s ability to excel both in pop and acoustic makes her so versatile. Sabrina just screams pop star and I just love her personality. I can defs see them growing into little pop princesses 🩷
I hear ya! Tate is everything to me - she can just do everything.... write, sing, dance and is gorgeous. I so hope she continues :) Sabrina is multi-talented as well and super cute and quirky :) I really want longevity for them both 🙏
tate mcrae is such a good pop star, her songs are good and her voice and performance are incredibles, i’ve been a fan of tate since her EP “too young to be sad” which is perfect, i rmb those weeks before greedy came out and how i thought it would flop bc her last songs/albums were just not successful enough, but then it started became so viral and everyone was like “yess song of the year” “old pop is back” and when it came out everyone loved it, it just took her to be known worldwide to ppl start hating on her for being a commercial artist, trust me every female artist rn gets judged, no matter if it is even Taylor Swift who’s so big or even Tate who’s starting, everyone is judged, the best we can do is support and enjoy, if we don’t like it just skip and that’s all, they work hard for it for we to just go and comment “it’s horrible” “it’s basic” like why
I’m glad you mentioned the artist development part of this. Since FOREVER, a label (A&R) would discover a new artist and then develop them for years behind the scenes until they were finally ready to be released to the world. That’s why people could perform well out the gate and usually already had their own “sound” even on a debut album. Because they spent years finding and developing it, usually with the help of some great producers. Nowadays a label does that and the artist is called an industry plant. If you didn’t go straight from TikTok, IG or UA-cam to the stage, then you’re not “authentic enough.” And it results in a bunch of one hit wonders and fads that fizzle out quickly rather than artists with any kind of artistic identity and staying power.
Right like there’s so many people becoming musicians by happenstance or because “ why not?”. The intentionality is not there anymore. Labels aren’t putting money into artists. The artist themselves don’t care enough they just wanna make a check :/ I think that’s a huge part of the equation as to why things feel flat or underwhelming, because some of these people just aren’t ready to be on the stages they’re on, and they need to be polished a bit more to be considered a popstar at least
Major labels stopped developing artists in the late 80s/early 90s because artists don't make money, songs do. Push the song / mention the artist. This isn't anything new, and for many reasons they had to make the shift. Some artists with strong fan bases manage to take advantage of this, to their benefit, while others who don't know any better sign their life away, thinking they've "made it", are left to hopefully churn enough profitable products to stay alive, if they are allowed to release anything at all. As long as the "major market" exists, we'll continue down this path. Eventually, the best of the best rise to the top, we find them one way or another, and so the process continues....
I also could not disagree more with the idea that pop is dead. Taylor Swift is an example of a pop act who has not just excelled this year, she drove pop, singlehandedly, to the biggest year ever. The difference you are discussing here is ageism and the idea that new young stars have to be here to keep the genre alive. It's not true, I think streaming has opened the doors for older artists to have much longer runs at it than they used to.
True , 2023 was literally biggest year of pop in recent times since 2019 and it was fueled by Taylor swift and many others . Just because 2010 pop artist other than taylor didnt get success , these people think pop is dying.
@Moon-ge8mc I mean I'm not a swiftie, but I kinda agree. But not only Taylor Swift, also the weeknd, they've been carrying pop since 2022. Like for example, it's sad that a Taylor swift song from 2019 is outperforming every release this year.
In 2013 ARTPOP was considered a FLOP, selling ONLY 250.000 copies. In 2024, selling 100.000 albums is a "commercial success" Mainstream music is SO DEAD
I’m so glad the algorithm recommended you. You are so charming, smart and have such a great way in talking about the subject. Looking forward to more of your content! ❤
as a millennial, i respect where you’re coming from but have to disagree. i think right now, like now now, pop is getting more interesting. it’s not at another peak but it’s on the way up. it’s spear headed by Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo. also, one thing that makes this new rise unique than the peak we saw is the authenticity and rawness. the 90s-2000s pop were catchy tunes written by label record songwriters. this new rise of pop have the artists write the songs themselves, the songs are much more raw and personal. i think this part of this generation’s pop is fresh. i do not want to go back to listening pop songs written by 40 year old songwriter dudes.
I see what you’re saying but I don’t feel like pop music is supposed to be about authenticity. If I wanted that I’d go listen to a singer songwriter/acoustic type of vibe or something alternative like Phoebe Bridgers. Pop is supposed to be feel-good music. We know it’s manufactured and I want that. Billie and Olivia are WILDLY TALENTED!’ But they don’t make me feel good, they make me feel depressed. I feel like honestly they are a genre of their own Also some artists of the past were writing their own stuff. I know Ke$ha wrote some of her own songs
@@Foundationsofgreatness "Pop is about feel-good music" The Weeknd's existence kinda breaks that. Feel-good music is not locked to one genre, and pop is so much more than "makes me wanna dance" and its really the upcoming artists proving that. I love high energy danceable pop music, but I also love more calm pop music. I can appreciate my Dua Lipa "Dance The Night" and my Troye Sivan "One Of Your Girls", you can have both a Charlie Puth and salem ilese type pop musician and keep your Sabrina Carpenter and Carly Rae Jepsens!!! Manufactured music is never going to go away, obviously, but you can't expect people who want to write something else to conform (pop is also kinda great for experimentation because its so broad). And saying that because its not "feel good, be happy" that it isnt pop is ridiculous IMHO WHY NOT BOTH!?!?! WE CAN HAVE BOTH!!! EVERYONE CAN BE HAPPY!!!
@@Foundationsofgreatnesspop is just popular music it isn’t supposed to have a image or anything like that that’s why every genre in the world is capable of becoming pop
The thing is Sabrina has career development. She’s been making music for a long time and slowly climbing up, which made her recent songs stick and boosted her even more
I think the ones who have the most potential to become “big” pop stars are Sabrina and Olivia Rodrigo, they’re already on their way, but it will still be Taylors domain for a few years more, she’s unstoppable and has THE strongest fanbase. I think our popstars nowadays and specially for gen z are not necessarily “Pop”stars as we knew them before, a clear example of this change could be Lana del Rey or maybe some big indie artists like Phoebe Bridgers
Who is running pop? It's very very clearly Taylor. But we have what the 2000s didn't; depth and uniqueness. Think Billie, Rosalia, The Weeknd, SZA, Lana. I think replacing the "stardom" factor with more interesting work is pretty great.
Tate McRae can dance and sing, she was a dancer before she was a singer. Her, Sabrina, and Olivia are all new to this but they’re all stardom material.

i think i could see olivia rodrigo lasting a long time even though a lot of people think she’s dying off. also i totally agree with sabrina carpenter, she totally has popstar vibes. and renee rapp is sort of still emerging but she is an amazing vocalist with a great personality and she will definitely get big
Billie Eilish is the biggest from this generation. I don't think pop music is dying, I think that pop music and the pop imagery is shifting and I wanna point out 2 things: 1. What really is pop music? It's hard to tell because the nuances that make pop music a genre change about every 8 years or so. Think Beyoncé, I REALLY don't think that Dangerously In Love could be considered a pure pop album, and that goes to many many albums from that era, but because R&B was so popular at the time, it became pop 2. And now, for me, we're seeing the same thing happening again, the change. After the "R&B pop", we had that 2006 - 2014? period era of synth, bubblegum pop songs with artists like Kesha, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga defining the genre and becoming divas, but I think the idea of crazy divas with extra costumes and maximalistic songs isn't so appealing to the public anymore (specially the younger generation, that I think is the generation that consumes pop music and culture the most), and now we're having a more chill, laid back pop music, even sad honestly, that talks more about feelings and love than party and that kind of stuff and the public is finding more appealing. everyone should check out some underground artists tho, there are some divas and hyperpop artist that give the pop you'll are asking for
I think pop music has changed to appeal to a more depressive and melancholic generation that finds comfort in someone singing something that they can say "hey, this artist felt the same thing as I did, they get me" than a true pop diva, y'know?
arianas eternal sunshine was SOOO GOOD she manages to cater to everyones music taste, write good lyrics, has good vocals, and even tho she takes inspiration from the 90s and other music eras, she still makes it sound fresh and brand new
I think a lot of folks just want to see the next Michael Jackson and that will never happen. Music industry tried replacing him several times and it has never worked. There can only be one king of pop
I think Olivia really stands out to me the most because of the way she carries herself in the media. She has really toned things back this album and keeps her persona primarily based and reliant on her music, which is something I respect. I also thinks she’s the only one at of the people you mentioned who is bringing something new to the table. (Tate a little bit too with her newer singles). I know people are super obsessed with sabrina rn, but in my opinion she is lacking something that makes her stand out from the rest I guess. (sorry I’ve tried sooo hard to get into her music). Love Olivia’s music or hate it she is bringing back the pop punk sound.
sameeee, i love how fresh her music is, and the lyrics are also amazing, she has this very personal feel with her music and such a good voice and curated idea on what she wants to portray, definetly she is here for the lung run!!
Rina Sawayama is could EASILY make it big if her label promoted her well. She is one of the most talented live performers I’ve ever seen, and I think she definitely has that star quality.
I don’t think Rina Sawayama is a pop artist though. She is amazing at what she does her music is insane, but i don’t think she falls into POP music. She uses a lot of pop elements but I wouldn’t say she is a pop artist.

I just think it’s weird how everyone is trying to relate the new pop to the old one. The 2010’s were amazing but it’s a new era, people are falling out and changing, and we’re not excepting that. Tate and Sabrina and all the other young people are changing the game, not the actual genre. The 2010’s are over people we have to embrace that. Music is changing all around and it’s so hard to come out in top, like how you have to prepare for who’s releasing next and what other people came up with, instead of embracing yourself. It’s so hard to be an artist now because the public just relates you back to the greats like how some people are relating Tate to Shakira. It’s crazy and we have to expect that’s it’s changing. Ari is changing, she’s not who she used to be, she has a new grasp on who she wants to be and what she wants to do.
I agree 100%! I’m from GenZ and I really miss old pop music. Until today I listen old pop. Is very hard to listen “new pop” bc every single lyric and melody looks the same and a lot of new artists are sexualizing themselves. This is the “content” to the people. I feel sad abt it. I’m singer and I’m starting my career and I really want to make music/music video/outfit/performance with 2000-2016 vibes!
Yeah, I think a lot of things sound the same and there’s a lack of distinction. But with the lineup by list of current artists, I think could be big I think they differ from each other in some way, which would be helpful in diversifying pop!
As an arianator, I couldnt be more happy that ari is coming back. I know how problematic she is unfortunately - even though I dont believe in all the rumors - buttt even people who arent her fans and have the ability to seperate the art from the artist, still are excited for her come back. Personally, I think people love her and dislike the new rising stars (Olivia, Tate, Sabrinae, Tyla etc) because maybe they grew up with her and saw her improve. Also I think its because these new artists trust Tik Tok a lot to promote their work and dont have or dont know any other ways to promote their work. Lastly, I think people these days just throw raw products and beautiful albums.
Yeah, I’m an ari stan. And yes, her scandals kind of overshadow sometimes but I don’t think she’s that bad of a person🥲🥲🥲 Maybe I’m delusional. I also remember hearing Ari on the radio for the first time, actually, I heard her music before victorious got popular and I witnessed her growth. I truly do think that’s why I connect with her so much so you’re definitely right about that. I think another reason why we don’t idolize these pop artists as much today is just because times have changed. @jordybell1 well yes, and for me its better, cause raw, honest and non superficial music with real instruments in it >>> 2010s superficial pop

i think a reason why t swift could regain such an extreme, extreme power (something you can't tell me she didn't) is because she is one of the only ones that actually still has the vibe of a popstar from the early 2010 (big tour, prominent boyfriend, lots of new and exciting music, long career) and she really feeds into that nostalgia that many people are experiencing (for example with her rerecordings)

That’s the problem with the pop music these days, we expect them to come out and not already have the it factor but back in the day an artist could never debut without their company making sure the artist is in top shape

i feel like the biggest problem right now with pop music is the listeners who don't give anyone a chance to succeed. the biggest examples of this to me would be olivia and tate, cuz i vividly remember how much hate olivia got when drivers license first started to get big until she was successful enough for ppl to actually like her, same thing happening now with tate. i do agree tho that the music isn't comparable to what the girls were giving before the 2020s (except for sabrina, she easily would've been a main pop girl since 2018 if she didn't go from a terrible label to another)
Shakira definitely deserves her flowers! She is one of the best performers period. And I agree, people do always want something to complain about. I think we have to give things some time to stick.

Lady Gaga is the last great popstar.
tbh i don’t think that anything is dying. no genre is dying, there’s more artist bc anyone can make music nowadays so the good stuff is just harder to find
I feel like the pop era now is definitely kpop. It took a while for kpop to be popularized in countries like america, and now that they've gained so much traction worldwide, kpop's gonna stay relevant for a very long time
True, but its always going to have its limits in America because of the language barrier (obviously not all are in Korean but at least the ones I’m used to), I feel like it’s still pretty niche as i feel as though most people here wouldn’t name a k pop band if they were asked for their top pop artist faves
I disagree..KPop is overrated

She's already cemented herself as an icon in my opinion... imagine what she will go on to do
it seems like she really knows who she is, too. its refreshing
is she pop?
Kudos to her awesome bro too, dude is another level genuis
yeah but she isn't really pop music in the sense of the word
As well as Sabrina when it comes to pop.
same there my fav artists
Olivia , sabrina , tate etc are not finding immesnse success like 2010s artist is because music is moving too fast. Taylor immaculate success has people thinking ariana , rihanna , katy , dua etc can pull off big numbers in 2024 which is very unlikely because Taylor numbers were always through the roof since 2010,. It be interesting to see how good these big artist do in 2024.

you predicting that Sabrina was coming to save the REAL pop, come on "Espresso" and "Please Please Please" and Tinashe having her solo hit with "Nasty".
I literally dressed up as her twice lol
Agree, she’s on a similar trajectory as 2010s Arianna Grande
What is Halloween costume effect?
@@jellyrcw12 it means that an artist has something easily recognizable about their image or personal style that can be replicated as a Halloween costume

It must take so much skill and practice to sing and dance)

This video is pure gold, finally someone talking facts! Im so tired of people pretending certain artists changed music forever or made iconic things when all they really do is make,as you said, fast food music.

Have you listened to SOPHIE?
check out chappell roan's album "the rise and fall of a midwest princess" if you haven't already!
I have a feeling she’ll stand the test of time
Fr, Olivia is the obvious answer
Her music is bland break up negative songs. Her lyrics are equivalent to a 7th grader’s text. Not to mention most of her popular songs are not original and are plagiarised. This is coming from someone who use to be her fan.

2:30 Nope. The greatest pop era ever is the 80s by far!!

There was a lot of annoying ass edm/electronic music in the pop music though… that’s what turned me off… too much. And too much lyrics that went like “ah, ah, ah,” repeating a part of a word or something like that…
I wonder if "best era of pop music" is always the one you experienced as a child and teenager or if there is actually a superior pop music era that people from different generations can agree on 🤔
Don’t do that. Your soul is more important than all of that.

I so hope she continues :) Sabrina is multi-talented as well and super cute and quirky :) I really want longevity for them both 🙏
not to mention olivia has already put out two albulms with lots of variety in terms of sound and lyrics.
tate mcrae is such a good pop star, her songs are good and her voice and performance are incredibles, i’ve been a fan of tate since her EP “too young to be sad” which is perfect, i rmb those weeks before greedy came out and how i thought it would flop bc her last songs/albums were just not successful enough, but then it started became so viral and everyone was like “yess song of the year” “old pop is back” and when it came out everyone loved it, it just took her to be known worldwide to ppl start hating on her for being a commercial artist, trust me every female artist rn gets judged, no matter if it is even Taylor Swift who’s so big or even Tate who’s starting, everyone is judged, the best we can do is support and enjoy, if we don’t like it just skip and that’s all, they work hard for it for we to just go and comment “it’s horrible” “it’s basic” like why

I feel like honestly they are a genre of their own
Also some artists of the past were writing their own stuff.
And saying that because its not "feel good, be happy" that it isnt pop is ridiculous IMHO
WHY NOT BOTH!?!?!
Tate is awful 😭 and Olivia is already a star
@@f4gsforpele all three of them were famous/known before they were SUPER famous. tate is awesome, has EVERY quality a star needs. olivia is already a star. sabrina finally got her big break last year with "because i liked a boy" and "nonsense" and "feather"
She can sing but her songs are terrible
Sabrina has been making good music since she came out-she's been slept on until EICS
Girl I had been SLEEP. I still have a lot more listening to do but she definitely has something special
same her evolution as an artist is beautiful, she's versatile and she makes really good pop/ rnb song too
The music nowadays are just so much better in quality. The pop music in the 90s and 2000s are mostly trash which talks about nothing apart from having sex and dirty stuffs. Most of the albums back then were not written by the artists themselves. But nowadays most artists write their own songs.
thank god someone that agrees with me
i think i could see olivia rodrigo lasting a long time even though a lot of people think she’s dying off. also i totally agree with sabrina carpenter, she totally has popstar vibes. and renee rapp is sort of still emerging but she is an amazing vocalist with a great personality and she will definitely get big
Billie Eilish is the biggest from this generation. She's still very young (only 1-2 years older than Olivia and Tate) and already has a catalog of hits, instantly recognizable aesthetic and sound, industry respect, and touring arenas/stadiums globally. Not to mention she has a lot of time to switch it up & continue to build her legacy with her future albums, projects, acting, etc.
olivia is the biggest gen z artist
@@mirzasadman6670naw Billie is since she has millions of views on all her videos since she has more then Olivia and she has like 2 videos on UA-cam that’s are at 1 billion and one of the videos are gonna reach to 2b and that video is lovely
@@mirzasadman6670Olivia is still new
@@emanuel5944 olivia has 4 billion songs from her DEBUT album. 2 of them have over 2 Billion stream too. Billie's second album kinda flopped whereas GUTS broke her previous album's first day sales record. so yeah, i still stand by what i said.
@@mirzasadman6670 I love olivia but she is not bigger than billie at all..at least not yet. billie has broken more records, has more awards (grammys, oscars, etc) and a guinness world record, billie also has a larger audience and is known by multiple generations. my parents know who billie is..they don’t know olivia yet. her audience is still mostly teens
I don't think pop music is dying, I think that pop music and the pop imagery is shifting and I wanna point out 2 things:
1. What really is pop music? It's hard to tell because the nuances that make pop music a genre change about every 8 years or so. Think Beyoncé, I REALLY don't think that Dangerously In Love could be considered a pure pop album, and that goes to many many albums from that era, but because R&B was so popular at the time, it became pop
That’s fair! I respect this opinion, I like the way you phrased this
@@jeonsunbae5784you explained this so well! But yes I think that’s what it is!
Pop music is popular music, though the sound of pop music is very similar. kind of like how house music and drill beats sound the same.
pop music has calmed the hell down in recent times
arianas eternal sunshine was SOOO GOOD she manages to cater to everyones music taste, write good lyrics, has good vocals, and even tho she takes inspiration from the 90s and other music eras, she still makes it sound fresh and brand new
Yeah but her affair with a married man I think makes her rachet!
@@FoodNerds Guess you have to seperate the love life and the career. Sabrina got and is still getting some backlash too, if you ask me.
Yes I love her rock releases, would be cool if she had an all rock album@@ishita8486

Rina Sawayama is could EASILY make it big if her label promoted her well. She is one of the most talented live performers I’ve ever seen, and I think she definitely has that star quality.
she is insanely talented and i feel underrated!!
Omg you are so right
i lover her sm, and charlie xcx
I don’t think Rina Sawayama is a pop artist though. She is amazing at what she does her music is insane, but i don’t think she falls into POP music.
She uses a lot of pop elements but I wouldn’t say she is a pop artist.
what do you think she is then @@mohamedq881
Im starting to notice that EVERYTHING has become a fast food version of itself. Clothing, music, films, books etc.
why you haven't mentioned Olivia Rodrigo, that girl is crushing
For real. She and Billie is the immediate answer from 2020’s era.
Sabrina has everything to become the next popstar(she already is btw)
1. Lyrical genius
2. Good fashion sense and aesthetics
3. The drama
4. Amazing voice, talent
5. Insane performer

@@nassercabelo3330 Dude you live in a cave or being ignorant, she clearly has songs charting and people's feed are filled with her performances. She is clearly rising and questioning her charisma?! You better be joking.
she isnt and her issue is her music sucks and thats not being a hater, her music is just whatever olivia and taylors producers leave in the studio before sabrina comes in , she isnt popular, her songs dont chart high at all or even chart to begin with , shes on her 6th studio album and has just barely cracked the hot 100, madison beer is much better then her and has bigger streaming numbers
haha no
I love Olivia Rodrigo and I’m 33. Her music is just too catchy. And I like her SoCal suburban girl aesthetic. Something about her is just very refreshing for me, but familiar at the same time.
its sad that taylor went from pop which is 1989 to sad girl music
Yeah, I think a lot of new artist are stuck in the TikTok frame of mind but in their defense that’s what’s working at least short term . they’ll probably realize long-term that it’s not as beneficial as they may think because there’s audiences outside of TikTok. Other demographics, who don’t use TikTok, and in order to be a mega star, you have to reach everyone, young and old, and everybody kinda Hass to buy in.. and that’s just not happening
Pop music would've bene saved if Britney made a comeback as well
@@JiafeiProducts6969after everything she faced i want her to never come-back. She was abused to the core of her soul i'm sure she lost her passion for music
