This was a joy to watch. Not just for the obvious pure joy of Kels reaction, but seeing Rich’s face giving us the viewer the knowing look because he knows that we know, and knowing that we know that he knows whats coming as this master of a track starts to build up. Great stuff, such an all time classic
I remember I first heard Free Bird in my friends basement when they were failing it on guitar hero but I liked the background instrumental so I went on the computer and listened to it with headphones and I remember being speechless when the never ending solo hit and made them listen and they agreed to give up lol
One of the most awesome guitar solos in rock history!
cajun812 I would respectfully disagree. It is THE most amazing guitar solo in rock history!
HUH???? WHAT???? It's 10 min of scales and bending the strings!!!!!! What is so awesome about it? I could never understand it!!!! It's a mundane riff with 2 semi talented guitarists doing minor scales, noodling, and string bends over it. Far far far far from the best solo ever. You just made many many many guitarists sick and a lot of others roll over in their graves.
@@prprod I do agree that it's not the most complicated guitar solo in the world but is pretty great to listen to
@@prprod shut Up and go to cry with your mom lol
@@gustavocastillo3292 Gus I would but she died 5 years ago...Nice
Okay. She loves Free Bird. This means we have a chance to turn her onto other southern rock bands. I suggest the Fillmore live version of "Whipping Post" so she can hear Duane Allman play the hell out of a slide guitar.
I'd add "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" - it's an instrumental, but it's one of the first "new music experiences" I gained in college. Amazing song.
Jessica
@@bryansproles2879 - Yeah, that was going to be my second choice. Amazing song!
Statesboro Blues from At Fillmore East, killer slide guitar from Duane Allman the master
@@beare55 One Way Out
Love seeing people hear this for the first time. That solo is (arguably) the best solo ever written. They don't go off on a tangent and just wail away. They stay with the beat and fill it in. And just keep going and going and going.
The live version (either one) is just amazing. Can't wait.
PS: You have to watch NoLifeShaq react to this. He walks out of the room speechless. Hilarious.
Saw his reaction. He makes me laugh.
I loved No Life Shaqs reaction!.
A perfectly precious reaction! Go Kel!!! Her appreciation for the musicianship, being classically trained, is clearly evidenced, and a joy to behold. Thanks guys!!! 🤓👍
Well, Rich. You've created a Skynyrd fan. Congratulations!
Welcome to southern rock, Kel. Enjoy the journey!
"Maior e melhor solo de todos os tempos!"
"Biggest and best solo ever!"
Brazillians... 😄😄
Tuesday's Gone. My favorite. With the wind.
Definitely!
My 8 yr old heard me listening to Tuesdays Gone the other day and ran in the room yelling, “yay, the happy Gilmore song!”
Needle And The Spoon!
Awesome song!
Everyone waiting for the solo to kick in and Kel's face when it does.
She didnt disappoint.
Iconic song even though they were good 'ol boys.
It's just the perfect guitar solo ending. Just when you're saying to yourself, "ok, it can end now", it fades out. Perfect timing.
Freebird is the best classic rock song ever imo. I never got to see the original band, but I have seen them several times with Johnny singing. Great times never been disappointed. R.I.P. Ronnie, Cassie, Steve, Bob, Leon, Billy, and Allen.
Love watching someone listen to this and not know what is about to hit them! Without a doubt, the best three guitar attack ever recorded.
First time I've heard someone describe Free Bird as beautiful. She gets it man, she gets it. Welcome aboard sweetheart.
Love love you guys. this made me cry as I adore this song xxxxx
The Outlaws, Green Grass & High Tides. Your welcome.
If you want face melting guitars
It’s hard to believe anyone has not heard free bird, but so glad we got to see her react to it!
I was very lucky to see Lynyrd skynyrd on July 2nd 77 on day of the green #4 and Led Zeppelin last US show on day on the green #7 on July 24th 1977. As we know tragedy would soon hit both bands. Karac Plant died days later and LS plane crashed Oct 20th 77.
I was there, too. Simply the most exhilarating concert I've ever been too.
It's official. Kel, you are by far the most sheltered person I've ever heard about. This is amazing. I'm so saddened how sheltered you've been kept from the world. That's astonishing really. It's a great blessing too though when you think about it, as now you get to appreciate this style of music far more than we did as kids. What any of us wouldn't give to get to experience some if this stuff for a first time again. So embrace it all as a great gift, girl! \m/
Sadly, it’s true. It was always all about control.
But it’s done with now and I am free of it and all of those who were a part of it.
And yes, you are so right! Now I fully appreciate all of this and all of YOU so much!
I am ready for you!
Thanks for always being so outstanding. You are amazing.
Greetings from Costa Rica I am 50 years old and 40 years of listening to music and this freebird song that is the best thing I have ever heard in my life ... However, the concert version has the best guitar solo in the history of music .. I recommend the 1976 version in concert .. they are very much loved
Never clicked on a video so quickly! It's happening!!
Steve Gaines , Gary Rossington , Allen Collins are just awesome guitar players, Allen's solo in this song is absolute perfection!!!
Can't leave out Leon Wilkeson, bassist, with the finger-breaking runs about 4 5ths of the way thru, nearing the end.
How could anyone not like this? It’s the “Bohemian Rhapsody” of Southern Rock. I always have to listen to “High Tides and Green Grass”, by The Outlaws, after Freebird......Just damn good music!!
Hi guys, came across your reaction to Freebird, now as a 76 old Brit who in his his teens in the sixties and in my twenties in the seventies, where I became a YES fan.
I am very proud of the music this tiny island put out, but if I was to create a top out of everything that is out there, Freebird would be in it.
A true masterpiece.
when the solo started, on the screen was written "biggest and best solo ever"
Watching the joy in Kel's face was priceless!
Thanks! The Knebworth live version is the best! 😎👍
Alan was on fire at Knebworth.
This was our class song in 1983. Selinsgrove Area High School Class of 83. This was the year that Every Breath You Take was number 1 on the billboards yet we chose Freebird as our class song. It described us going out into the world after school to persue our dreams. Love this song forever!!!!
Kel's reaction is awesome!!! To hear Freebird for the first time, life changing.
I wish I could listen Freebird for the first time again ...
I had been lucky enough to see them the HellFest (France) last month. They closed with Freebird, that was f* great!
Thanks guys, keep posting videos 😊
Loved the. Rossington Collins Band!!!!
That's the Reaction we wanted to see from you Kel....we had this "experience" Centuries before you.....and still today!
What a wonderful thing to see the joy this brought Kel. Way to go, you two!
Oh, man the joy on her face and in her voice... I think this is my favorite reaction to date.
This song is almost universally considered TOP TWO rock songs of all time, Stairway To Heaven, being the other. As for me, there's about two dozen songs that share number one.
Excuse my French but...F-King amazing, I want to hear Freebird for the 1st time, again!!! Love Kel's reactions ❤️❤️❤️
Your reaction to great rock music, Kel is a sight to behold. :-)
The dual lead guitars thing was a big part of their signature sound. I loved her reaction!
Yes...the live version that we all have heard where he says "Play it pretty for Atlanta."
Heard Free Bird a 1000 times and never get tired of it! The best anthem ever!
This band was one of the first to reveal to me that "a song doesn't need vocal harmonies" to be great. And the progressions..... incredible!!! :)
"Freebird!!!"
"NOT Freebird. That's tomorrow, ok? The full 17 minute blow-out version" - Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree
I get the historical relevance of this song ,but I have heard it a 1000 times to many. For an April Fool's day joke, I created a Spotify playlist that had Freebird every 3rd song. The guys at work were pulling their hair out. I also included Layla, Hey Jude , and November Rain. I was not a popular guy that day, as I was the only one who had control of the tunes. They suffered greatly for 3 hours before I turned it off.....😜
She`s sooooo great- but this song- one of the greatest songs i`ve ever listen, and i am 71!
Hard to believe after 46 years now...after a thousand times, this song still kills me.Love both of your reactions....Just think how lucky we all are this song was written.
One of the classic rock tracks of all time its quite suprising that you havent reacted to this already.but there are so many classic tunes that its still going to take a while for Kel to hear them all.she is a freebird!
🎧😊
Free bird is such a classic song and the solo is awesome.
Another band, from my formative days, that I would listen to, in the basement. Lol. My sister left hundreds of 8 tracks. Kiss, rush, angel, dire straits, skynyrd, Boston, aerosmith, Kansas, Molly hatchet, and many more.
I've said it before.. the beauty and genius of this song is of course the solo.. and the fact that it weaves effortlessly into and out of the background rhythm in the background.. like a dance. One of the best songs in the genre for sure.
Peace
Good reaction! Kel, you were kept from a lot. Good that you found Rich. You two are a great couple.
Thank you so much Dave 😊
loving the Pinky & the Brain T-shirt!
Thanks bro! I love them both. Thanks for being here!
Kel your like most of us we hear this song for the first time , minds blown, live version is even better, great reaction, keep up with the Skynyrd!!! Southern man!!! Who has been listening to Skynyrd since 1975, Did not to see the original group but did see them in 2001, it was awsome, they opened for ZZ TOP, i love me some ZZ TOP, but Skynyrd blew them away! Need to listen to #T-FORTEXAS#1977OKLAND.
The Rossington-Collins band put out a couple of albums around 1980. They were the remaining members of Skynyrd before deciding to bring the name back.
Such a great song! But being a from Tennessee I have heard this song Soooooo many times in my life I can't take it anymore. But still.it's a Great song! Love the reaction guys ! Much love from the South East US
Lynyrd Skynyrd “That Smell”
I love the live version... watch it when Ronnie pushes the boys out on the giant Rolling Stones sacred outter stage that they were told to stay off of by Mick ! Ronnie said screw that these guys are shreading big time they deserve the outter stage & got it ! That's rock-n-roll man 😎🤘
Request: The Faces ( I know ) I'm Losing You... live BBC 1971 Sounds on Saturday.... Kel will really love it ❤
Thanks fort the memories I saw them in '77 in Chicago 2 months before the plane crash I saw myself in the audience, even though it was Oakland. You guys are great!
Listened to it over and over and over. Yes us Canadians love the classic rock.
Have you done hotel California yet?
Love you guys
Rossington-Collins Band were most of the surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd named for the two founding guitar players Gary Rossington and Allen Collins. They made two fantastic albums before Allen Collins was seriously injured in an auto accident. After that Skynyrd reunited and have been touring ever since. Two must listen two songs are “Opportunity” and “Don’t Misunderstand Me” from their debut album. I saw them in concert in ‘81 and they closed the show with Freebird as an instrumental. They would place Ronnie Van Zant’s hat on the microphone stand sitting in the middle of the stage. The crowd would sing the words and it was bone chilling, goosebump moment.
Timing is off. Allen's wife died in 1980 and he started to get really bad. Gary got married and moved to Montana to straighten himself out and start a family. Allen then started the Allen Collins Band, but his drug/alcohol abuse had gotten too bad at that point. His accident was in 1986 and he was paralyzed from the waist down, unable to play the guitar again. He died in 1990 from pneumonia.
What's amazing about Freebird is you don't expect the guitarfest to come, it is almost like a church hymn at first, then the fireworks. Even after oh, about fifty times for me, it is still fresh. Genius song, still miss Mr Van Zant's superb, always " just right" vocals, a bit of wisdom lyrically, as usual, from LS. Kel just jumped in and swam with it, glad to see. Rock on,love the site.
music I listen to here Im71 years old still listen to this music May they [RIP]
I love your reaction!!!...we all knew what was coming hee hee - how cool is this!
The Oakland live version is good, the Knebworth 76 one where they blew the Stones off the stage is even better - of course I could just be biased as I was there...
It is so cool to share these things with someone you love, I have become so much closer with my mom since my dad passed - one of the things we do now, is take road trips and since she has sirius radio there is obviously plenty of genres to listen to, she is 74 tomorrow and has only listened to music of the 50s when she was growing up and CLASSIC country - there are plenty of songs she doesn't care for and that is understandable, but when she hears something she likes and has never heard, I feel like I have broadened her horizon, and that is a cool feeling - by the way she now loves Skynard(really not that for from classic country) - good job guys, keep up the good work, music is one thing that brings people closer
The Rossington Collins Band was a southern rock band founded in 1979 by guitarists Gary Rossington and Allen Collins following the 1977 plane crash which killed three members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, of which both had been members.
The live version is even better....
Me thinks Kel had multiple eargasms!!! Someone get her a towel...
This is the thing. Metal is great, but it just cannot match the musicality of classic rock. The litany of legendary music from the 60's and 70's fills a lifetime
Double leads baby !!! Freakin awesome !!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Saw them front row center! I was leaning on the stage and the guitarists played this in my face!! I lost my voice for a week!
Ohhhhhh no way! What an amazing show that must have been!!!!!
First time I saw LS was in 76 at the Orpheum Theater in Boston. The Outlaws opened the show. Saw Skynyrd 3 times before the tragic plane crash. Saw them twice as Rossington/Collins. They had a female singer named Dale Krantz. She eventually married Gary Rossington. They did Freebird instrumentally. Saw them twice after they reformed with Johnny van Zandt.
After hearing this song Kel really needs to hear "Green Grass and High Tides" by the Outlaws. Never heard it before I saw them open for LS in 76. Definitely a companion piece to "Freebird". I'll go request it at your website.
Your reaction to this is the same one we all had when it came out! Amazing!
Didn't watch this yet, full of anticipation. I feel my day is about to be made.
Awww thank you so much for saying that! I hope you got what you wanted!
A Skynyrd fan is born . Ma'am , grab onto your chair , it's not a Cadillac , it's the giant roller coaster , lol !
When you react to the live version, pay special attention to the crowd before, during and after the solo/outro!
Best reaction ever
Now that you've done various musical artists from the seventies I suggest you go back to the 60s as well even the 50s. I was 14 in 1973. With the musical explosion and variances you can only imagine my teenage years were incredible. I hold on to them I cherish them and I relive them by playing so much music I'm still learning songs that I missed the first time around. I'm sorry you guys missed it. I am happy you're finding it now!
Loved your reaction to this iconic piece of classic Southern Rock!!!! So glad you shared this with us!
As an 80s kid who grew up in the South, it always blows my mind when someone's never heard Freebird. It's like half hymn/half national anthem to us.... my kids grew up on it.... it's like in our souls... don't get it twisted though, cause I feel the same way about Cemetery Gates. We got those Southern boys who pretend to be country, then we got Southern MEN who know how to rock like Ronnie Van Zant, Stevie Ray Vaughan, St Dime and St Vinnie.
Cannot wait to see Kel “in Oakland “
All due respect -
Knowing what’s coming and
because of the way the song builds and builds and builds, watching a WOMAN react is like the audio version of the greatest sportfucking night you (hopefully) have experienced.
Thanks Kel....got a cigarette?
Witness the holy terror of the guitar trio!
How many of us are just eight minutes into this reaction and saying . . . . . "just wait!
BAHAHAHAH! I love it when that happens for all of you! Lololol many of you have said that to us over the last few months. Such fun!
I love not knowing. It’s like a huge musical present 🎹🎁🎼
This is one of my favorite songs, this was the first Band I seen live at the age of 12,They had a barefoot Singer and their guitar Player`s were awesome,Alan Collins was amazing,He could jump high up and down and still play the guitar, super cool!.
The best live version is on One From The Road album.
That's the one to put on the playlist in the car.
I can't express fully the absolute joy Kel's heartfelt reactions to the music cause me to feel when I watch. NEVER fails to put a smile on my face! Thanks so much for your continued corruption of this lovely lady Rich!! I truly appreciate what you're doing here!! Keep at it it and I'll keep watching! Deal?
Just tuned in. This is gonna be gooooood. Skynyrd!
===========================================
Still want to see the live reaction.
Thoroughly enjoyed Kell’s reaction. Made me tear up. The 70’s had to be the greatest decade of musical experiences ever. Like her time machine idea. Like to go back myself. Frampton, Zepplin, Aerosmith, Nugent, Rush, Sabbath, on and on. Absolutely nothing like them since.
I had first heard the radio version but on our senior class trip, an overnight 8 hour bus ride, someone played the Gold & Platinum live version. We requested it over and over.... Forget sleep. Fast forward to an outdoor concert and a Skynyrd cover band, played it as good as ever, in the pouring rain. No one left!!!
Peter Frampton-Do You Feel Like We Do!!!!! From Frampton Comes Alive. Cmon guys.
So too cool to see someone hear this for the first time.
Thanks for sharing
Day on the Green, 1976, God Bless Bill Graham, Kel needs to know, Skynyrd was ALWAYS better live
Amen, brother...btw, they played Day on the Green in 77.
@@Chatta-Ortega ehh, when you've made it this far, what's the difference?
I agree. I took a 16 hour bus ride with a buddy to see this concert when I was 16. We told our parents we were camping. July 2, 1977 is forever etched into my mind. A truly epic day.
@@Chatta-Ortega And 1975 as well.
I loved Kel’s reaction and the look of joy on her face now that’s a great reaction.
Greatest rock song ever written.
Best first reaction to Freebird I have seen yet!
Glad you enjoyed it Kel! It never gets old!
Here we go!!!!!!!!!!
Kels got to watch them play the live version at Oakland. It's like going to church.
Thus is by far the greatest solo in history! Such a treat to watch it unleash on another person for the first time!!
Freewill By Rush. let's make it a Free night.
Amor odio Amor And also the band “Free.”
Simple Man is no Free Bird but a pretty damn good one to check out.
"Rocket Fuel on Steroids"...Great reaction, Kel! Rich, turn her on to Highway Song by Blackfoot....
I never get tired of watching people's 1st reaction to Freebird. So proud of my home town boys from my neighborhood in Jacksonville (the birthplace of southern rock) Funny thing when I was a teenager and this started playing Freebird on the am radio here in Jax they always cutoff the guitar solo. I soon found FM radio where they played the whole song. That was the day am radio died for me. Listening to the boys then was like candy for my ears. Then I found out that they were from right here where I lived. Instant Heroes! lol
