Famous story: Lewis and another popular artist were performing at the same concert. They each wanted to finish the show, but the promoter chose the other artist since he had more hits than Jerry Lee at the time. Jerry Lee was next to last, and as he did the last song he poured lighter fluid on the piano, lit it, and played while it burned. The audience went wild. When he was finished, he walked by the other artist and commented, "Follow that." Killer indeed!

Jerry Lee Lewis wasn’t called “ Killer” for nothing. He started the game of “wild” performing and blew everyone away. Btw, he married his 13 year old first cousin. I believe it lasted for a long time.

Jerry Lee was The Killer, a wild and crazy guy!! He was jealous of Elvis & had a feud going on 😆 Jerry Lee really got us dancing to his fiery rock & roll. Elvis the King ,of course had his own popular music 🎶 that drove us crazy back then whether rock & roll, love songs, ballads, and his gospel & Christmas songs were incredible hits ( that drove Jerry Lee mad) What a wonderful time to be part of the music scene of 50’s 60’s & 70’s the music that changed the world for young people 🥰
Glad you discovered a wild & crazy Jerry Lee Lewis 🔥🎹🔥

One of the most important figures at the beginning of rock & roll. Jerry Lee struck as early as 1957 and rocked the world of teenagers at that time. The world was changing and Jerry Lee led the way.

Jerry Lee Lewis was one of the more flamboyant & wilder rock & roll singers of the time in the 50's-60's. He was nicknamed "The Killer". His piano playing & showmanship were legendary. He had a lot of hits such as "Breathless", "Wild One", "High School Confidential", "What'd I Say", "Another Place, Another Time" etc. His career faltered for a time when he married his 13-year-old cousin.

Jerry Lee Lewis was a different breed at the time, much like Elvis was. People had never heard or seen anyone like him before and they loved it. Jerry Lee could get a dance floor jumping.

Jerry Lee was one of the first 10 men inducted into the R+R Hall of fame and in my opinion, the wildest and craziest, and he still outlived the rest of them.

The founding fathers of rock and roll, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis. I saw all of them live and have Jerry Lee's autograph and about 80 black and white photos of Elvis from his Seattle show in ? maybe 1972.

Yes, this performance is from 1969, probably the greatest versions of these songs, even better than the ones from 1964 in my opinion.

Jerrys nick name was "The killer." He was at sun records with Elvis, Johnny Cash & l think Conway Twitty. They also toured together. Jerry was a wild man & got into a lot of trouble. He would play that piano with his fingers, feet, butt or whatever part of his body he felt like. The seat always went flying across or off the stage. Jerry would jump on top of the piano while playing/singing. In the 70s, he had a lot of country hits. He was just a little bit calmer, & still known as the killer. He was cousins with Country singer Micky Gilley and Preacher Jimmy Swaggart. All 3 could play the piano VERY well.
Rock or country Jerry had some great songs!

Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley and Jimmy Swaggart the preacher we're cousins... My dad was fiddle man on a Music TV show back in the 60's.. Jerry Lee guest starred on it a couple times... We live in Houston, and my dad played several times at Gilley's Club in Pasadena Texas.. the Club that the Movie Urban Cowboy with John Travolta was Filmed at... Mickey Gilley used to come to our house when i was a young kid.. My dad had built a Recording Studio on the back of our house.. we always had different famous country musicians in the sessions.. I was just a young kid then.. I have a picture of George Jones holding me when i was a baby on stage while he was singing..

Jerry is cousins with the Mickey Gilley the country music singer, and Jimmy Swaggert the evangelist. If you notice, all three played the piano in the same way.

The killer. Jerry Lee Lewis was not only a great piano player he did things that was never seen before. He was.a entertainer. The only thing I dislike of this video is that it was too short.

If you ever get an opportunity to see the musical called the Million Dollar Quartet - do it! It is Jerry Lee, Elvis, Cark Perkins and Johnny Cash. It was a day they were all at Sun Records jamming together very early in their career. Thanks

...Jerry Lee and Elvis started out together at Sun Records on Union ave in Memphis about 1955...part of what was called the 'Million Dollar Quartet'....fun fact: Jerry Lee and Elvis lived their adult lives not 10 miles from each other: Jerry Lee at the Lewis Ranch in Nesbit, MS...and Elvis of course at Graceland in south Memphis near the MS state line.

If you want to see Jerry Lee really let loose check out the YT video of his performance in Britain at around the time the whole Beatles craze hit in 1964. Jerry Lee is a downright dangerous, if not possessed human being in this 20+ minute performance.
Jerry Lee started playing at road side honky tonk bars in his pre-teens. He played in white as well as black establishments, which was illegal for a white man to do at the time in the deep south.
If you are familiar with any evangelical television preacher's Jerry Lee is related to one of the most popular Jimmy Swaggert, they are first cousins. Jimmy is also a musician and found God. Jimmy believed Jerry Lee was "bad seed".
