Man this made me laugh. You're a funny guy. In terms of the song I think they hit a nugget of gold when they combined those powerful feelings of jealousy with those positively charged anthemic melodies. I think people also feel a togetherness when they ball it out together at the nightclub. I feel like it's continued success has something to do with it being anthemic, but also to do with the complete lack of competition that surrounds it in todays charts.. keep these vids coming Justin!
Stick to walking in straight lines! I joke 😂...I completely agree with you...it's anthemic, but as you say, the competition in that era wasn't exactly strong.
The jealousy combined with the anthemic “destiny is calling me” stuff is perfect pop. There’s a dichotomy at play, pulling you down, then up. There’s this strange phenomenon in song writing where presenting a negative emotion or problem, followed by a positive one at the apex, gives the positive part a sense of emotional credibility. It’s not just a narrative arc like a book or movie because a pop song is 3 minutes and often vague. It taps into something fundamental in human beings.
Justin, it's simple. It's a positive, uplifting song about something miserable that most of us go through at one point. And it's very enjoyable to sing very loudly to when drunk, especially at weddings.
The lyrics of the song are not positive or uplifting. It has an uplifting beat and composition. It is like that eve6 song that everyone thinks is super positive but its actually about a bad meth trip.
For me, there’s endless momentum and loads of melodic tension. Love the way the melody in the chorus jumps to “…PRICE I pay!” - instant hype. Also the way the main melody keeps coming up to the root like it’s it’s a ceiling, before broken through 🙌 Nice tense use of Vsus4 chord too. Post-chorus synth alongside the guitar is simple but sounds transcendent. Finally, the lyrics are very relatable and almost make a story about your partner getting off with someone else feel like a weird triumph. The use of “I never”, a twee English expression of surprise, but bellowed passionately, is a genius bit of songwriting.
The expression is "Well, I never". You can't abbreviate it to "I never" and have it mean the same thing. If that WAS the intended meaning, it would have had all 3 words at least the first time, (and then maybe just echo "I never"). That meaning is out of context anyway, and doesn't fit with the rest of the lyrics. And given the way "Well I never" is used in conversation, would be completely "cringe".
All I know is that Brandon Flowers often sings “well I never” live, at least for the first couple of repetitions. And yes, the tone of the phrase is incongruous, but I think that makes it interesting, not cringy
Saw The Killers live on the Sam's Town tour at a festival. I'm more into metal but these guys are total pros. Put on a great show and played fantastically.
Saw them a couple days ago in San Diego, Imploding the Mirage tour, what a show. Brandon is such a great performer and the band band sounds great live. One of the best concerts I have seen
Fun fact : Once I served the bass player tacos when I managed a Mexican restaurant here in Australia. I asked him are you in the killers and he looked up from his tacos and said "yeah" and that was it.
That's nuts. I ran into the 3 of them (minus brandon) when they entered a restaurant in Amsterdam, I ended up playing pool with them and asked Dave Keuning (the guitar player) "what was it like playing live8 it must've been crazy with the amount of people there?" He replied "umm yeah" 😂 so I hustled them out of 40 euros shooting pool. He likes to say "yeah" it seems. 😂🤷♂️ looking back though I'm not too sure what I expected him to say. Dave Keuning yeah-ing all over the world for a while now. I want some tacos now.
@@brazenlilhussy5975 I met Dave at a Hard Rock cafe on the Gold Coast in Australia after the band headlined the V Festival (2009) that they used to have here. He didn't say much but I was wearing a Killers shirt that he didn't recognise and asked me where I got it from. I asked if I could have a pic with him and he didn't have any issues with that. I get the feeling he's maybe the quiet one in the band though :D
I can literally sense the regret and self-improvement in your voice whenever you are talking about substance abuse or any type of addiction in your videos and it feels so comforting and encouraging to see how someone who I consider an idol is able to turn their life around and become better than ever, after times spent with harmful habits. Btw love your videos and your personality and thanks for the positive vibes that you spread around this corner of the internet every day with your videos.
Just so you know, “substance abuse” is considered out of date terminology these days. It has the connotation of blaming someone who has what we now call “substance use disorder”. We’re talking way beyond ‘bad habits’, and instead about compulsion, when someone no longer has the choice to use/drink moderately, and so can’t make the decision to ‘abuse’ a substance. It is a lonely, painful, confusing place to be, because you act in ways that aren’t what you actually want. I wanted to share that as I just reached a year of sobriety. I appreciate your wonderful and warm intent. Please consider what I have said about the language, and lots of love to you ❤️
@@jimmahgee "Just so you know, “substance abuse” is considered out of date terminology these days. It has the connotation of blaming someone who has what we now call “substance use disorder”. 11 minutes and 46 seconds of pure joy! Love the analysis of what makes Brandon Flowers and The Killers what they are - Mormon underwear - got to love Justin !
Brandon has gotten better with age; voice He keeps to himself (family man with kids) I think in an interview, he did say in the early years of fame fell away from his religious upbringing. Depending on who is interviewing him, he is quick witted and funny.
In the first years he wasn't so mormon because He Smoked and probably, but I'm not 100%sure, He tried some drugs. But after 2007 He doesn't smoke and drink anymore
I’ve heard stories that he’s actually a nice guy too. He’s admitted that in their early years he did have an ego problem, and it seems like he’s been working for a while at not being that kind of person.
@@bblovely7788 idk about that. Day and Age is just okay but it has some absolutely amazing songs on it (space man, dustland fairytale), I dislike Battle Born, Wonderful Wonderful was kinda whatever overall but it had some great songs (Tyson vs Douglas for example), Imploding the Mirage was great even though it didn’t hit the heights of their first two albums, and Pressure Machine was very different from their previous work, but I think it’s absolutely fantastic. Even if you dislike all four albums I heavily disagree that they’ve only gotten worse.
Top 5 essences of Mr Brightside: 1) Freedom: Jealousy is one of the more difficult emotions to quickly get yourself out of. And this song is an ode to the release of jealousy. Who doesn't want that in a bottle? 2) Brotherhood: I’ve lost count of how many times this song has made me put an arm around a complete (drunk) stranger and sing loudly together. What is the cure for jealousy? For over-attachment to one person? having a non-restrictive good time, and feeling like you have ‘brothers/sisters’ around you. This song is associated (in so many people) with dance floor experiences of feeling the love. 3) Euphoria & Chant: Mixing dance with indie. The repetitions of the riffs almost have a dance/trance music-like feel. It has a hint of that same euphoric feeling as stuff like born slippy, and just well, whatever trance music is doing, and mixes that with Oasis (the band) shout sing football match chanting. 4) Antidote: So basically, this song is an anthem that IS ITSELF the actual antidote to jealousy / over-reliance on one person. It is the essence of friends who you don’t have to try hard to impress. How many people have experienced having to almost change entirely who they are to try and ‘fit’ into a relationship? Or having a friend who completely changes who they are to the point you don’t recognize them because they are now in a relationship, and only then to have that f*****g thing break down and cause them pain, jealousy and hurt. 5) Real friends of adventure: The song is ACCEPTANCE, BROTHERHOOD, summed up in this quote from the 1986 film Stand by me: “I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was 12. Jesus, does anyone?”
@@anandamuylaert haha, thank you. I do 'readings' of artworks for my work, and also I have a personal attachment to this song. So I couldn't hold myself back! Cheers for the kind words though :)
Really great summary, the lyrics are unashamedly transparent about the bread crumbs of jealously and what it does to you (the unraveling feeling perfectly emoted by the short bars at the start of the song and the pauses between each consonant for effect as each misdeed is laid bare). Then, the feeling of euphoria or release, where the subject almost embraces it and says in as many words 'I knew it all along, now I see it and it's on you, I'm moving on" the chanting/arm around another effect, we've all been there, I'm now shedding this skin.
@@jsequine927 Yeah it's a great feeling to have that acceptance of moving on. Another part that seems to take this song to another level is the "I never" lines at the end. Typical indie/pop songs have that verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus thing. The "I never" part feels almost like its own unique "not a verse or chorus or bridge" thing. It elevates above all of the rest of the song somehow (which almost all songs do not achieve). We don't even know (or care) what that "I never" means, but the pure acceptance in belting it out is exactly what we need to feel. And it feels f**king great.
This song is just catchy as hell, but speaking of this being played at a funeral. This song has a huge emotional impact on me now because my cousin's son died in an accident, and this was his favorite song. He was always such a friendly guy that was the life of the party. Even though he was only in his early 20s, he had randomly let his friends know that he wanted his funeral to be a celebration and that someone must play this song. So at the end of the event, they played this song as loud as they could and asked everyone to dance one last time for him like he was still there.
That’s such a beautiful thing to do. I wish more funerals focused on the celebration of the persons life. Tell the great stories, the funny stories, play their favorite tunes, try to have a laugh. These quiet whispery mournfests are just constant tears. Seeing so many people hurt is just devastating. We all will hurt, but I think it helps to really remember the best times with their closest friends and family. I’ve found that when people forgo the viewing part (the deceased didn’t want that) and slide shows were shown of their life and the good things leaves people still grieving but with a heart filled with love and some joy. I’m very sorry for the loss of your cousins son and so young. I swear the meanest worst people seem to live forever. Thanks for sharing that.
They have several great albums and Brandon's solo work is pretty good as well. In this song there is a distinctive and immediately recognisable guitar riff, catchy as hell melody , driving bass line, and is easily sung at any event involving inebriation. Not their best or deepest song IMO but a number of factors makes it really popular. Just one of these songs everyone loves.
I think its success is the constant anticipation of the chorus. It's one big build up and the holding on one note in the vocal creates that tension and sense of urgency. Everybody also loves a song they can shout when they're drunk...
My fraternal twin has been playing guitar from a young age and has shared musical stuff with me lthroughout the years. This time it was your UA-cam channel.. It was rather quite funny as he showed your one video with the space ship and said it was me in an alternate universe. Laughed my ass off. But he said, seriously listen to his channel. So I did. And am quite happy about it. You are very calm and eloquent. Keep it up . People need this. It's like reading a good book man. The world needs to get back to that. Hats off.
The drumming on this track is masterful. He’s simple, driving but very decorated. Great hi hat work. If you listen to the drums you hear lots of little fills/ decorations that repeat themselves throughout the song. It adds a whole bunch of energy without distracting from the song/ drive. He adds to all the little hooks going on in the melody/ other instruments. The second verse drop and repeat of “it was only a kiss” is iconic.
You've taught me so much about musicianship in your videos. I've been playing guitar and singing for about 16/17 years and performing too. But watching you disect music really opens up so much on guitar for me. Thank you.
I had a band, Low Flying Owls, that was working with the same team that brought you The Killers. I heard them before they smashed the charts and thought it was mediocre at best. My band sold a few thousand records, The Killers went on to sell millions. What do I know? I absolutely love your show!

When I left high school to move to a new city for college, I had two CDs playing in my tape deck adapted CD player: The Killers Hot Fuss and Permission to Land. Both of those albums mark a major transition into my adulthood. Thanks to both! Cheers, Justin. I loved you guys when you came to Austin this year!
The Darkness and The Killers are my two favorite post-2000 bands. Since this channel started, I've hoped Justin would do a video about The Killers, and would have good things to say. I was very excited to see the thumbnail for this video, and I wasn't disappointed. Good on ya, JHawk.
It endures as a song of hope. It's about being wronged, with a pre-chorus that empashsies despair of his situation, begging to be released, right before a hopeful, trancendant and highly singable chorus where he, and now an entire generation of people declare together their freedom from despair, which allows it to endure beyond the sum of its parts. It's become in of itself, a communial moment of hope and prayer that our own futures might hold for ourselves, a brightside.
This song never quite had its hooks in me until the Killers performed at the 2017 AFL Grand Final. My team won that year, breaking a 37 year premiership drought and one of our star players jumped up on stage and sung this song with the band during the post match concert. So now this song is anchored to a very positive memory for me (For those who don’t know, AFL stands for Australian Football League, and is the highest professional league of Australian Rules Football, a unique sport only played professionally down under. It’s basically Gaelic football played on a cricket pitch)
@@rootyp we getting saucy? I was at this set and it was incredible ua-cam.com/video/IoUYKtGh9tE/v-deo.html But let’s be honest- it’s the Scottish crowds that make it. I recently revisited this album , & forgot how great it is , especially for a debut . The album has no fillers & you mentioned the bass , the bass playing is great ! Lastly , I wouldn’t say this was NOT the best song on the album either . Anyone who hasn’t got the album, I strongly recommend it regardless of what genre of music you prefer . ✌️
This song is all things to all people. It’s a pop song that drunk people dance to while at the same time reflecting the pain of infidelity or a love moving on. The first 2 Killers records had great tracks. Can’t fault it.
Building tension, heartache, bit of Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy’ melody and Pachelbel’s ‘Canon in D’ chord structure. Throw in Vanucci’s brilliant drumming and that bass and voila!
Hi Justin. Big fan of the show. Every year there was a band that came at exactly the right time and changed my life for the better. 2003 it was The Darkness, bought the record in Cape Town since my small town did not have it. 2004 it was The Killers. 2005 it was Franz Ferdinand. 2006 it was My Chemical Romance. Love the show! 😁
FYI your video about Bon Jovi’s voice made local radio in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. They agreed with your assessment and gave “Justin Hawkins rides again” a shout out!
I really like your intro it always brings a smile to my face. My missus thinks I'm goofy because I smile so much at the EPIC CLOSE UP but she just doesn't know man, she just doesn't know.
The success in part is due to the constant increase in intensity. It slightly resets halfway through and then increases intensity again. Also, EVERYTHING is catchy!
The chorus simultaneously sounds like "Dreaming" by Blondie, and "Surrender" by Cheap Trick. I can even hear Scandal's "The Warrior" in the verse a bit.
I always appreciated the mix of the drums, synth and bass making the track sound as big as it does. The guitar is mostly clean arpeggios throughout the song up until the outro “I never…” part, only then does the guitar do any strumming with a little bit of gain, thus elevating the song that much more. Plus, in the context of rock music in 2003, it was a post-nu metal world and in America, bands like Nickelback Three Days Grace Puddle of Mudd and Godsmack were everywhere. Bands like The Darkness and The Killers were a huge breath of fresh air because no one in the mainstream sounded like that.
@@MrTCHOSS yes! Thank you for calling out The Strokes and Muse, I was thinking that I definitely left some bands out. Also, not for nothing, but the early-00’s rise of bands like AFI, Thursday, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, The Used and My Chemical Romance in the mainstream was great too. I know that kind of music and aesthetics aren’t for everyone but there were incredibly talented musicians in those bands that ultimately inspired tons of kids to pick up an instrument.
I listened to the Killers Hot Fuss quite a bit, thought All These Things That I've Done was a great tune. I like The Darkness a lot more though and a shout out to Mr. Dan Hawkins for his great job producing, engineering and mixing Motorheart. The album gets better with every listen - I think Justin Hawkins is channelling Prince on It's A Love Thang (You Wouldn't Understand).
The killers had a sound of their own at the time. Kind of original to my ears. I can't fault them. Saw them live and they were most impressive. No flying guitar solo though. Shame.
sir, you're doing a great job, I like watching your videos. no need to flatter you, you know who you are, but I really appreciate your insights. You definitely know what you're talking about. Keep it up!
The song is pretty incredible. I’ve had big debates with friends about why it has remained so popular. I think it’s because everyone has felt the pain of feeling betrayed and then , the important part for the song, obsessing over what might have happened. Can you think of other songs that empathize with that kind of mental obsession? I can’t. The other thing is that I feel it balances perfectly on the tip of dance and rock. At the risk of being a bit too much… just for the record… I think a “pedal” is only when a bass note holds underneath changing chords, not in the melody. Could be wrong but I think that’s it.
As an LDS (Mormon) person with a higher than average BMI I'd like to weigh in. The Killers Rhythm section is amazing and always serves the song. Ronald Vannucci Jr. has become one of my favorite drummers. Brandon Flowers is one of the best songwriters in the last twenty years. Regarding LDS underwear: Modern undergarmets resemble a typical undershirt and boxers. However, in the old days they were one piece and had slits for whatever business needed to be done. (There's nothing that different with regular undergarments of the time.) The garments themselves aren't sacred but the covenants the represent are. As far as health LDS folks are encouraged to use moderation in their diets with a few prohibitions. I struggle with this because I do like my sweets. Other than covering the undergarments LDS folks wear normal clothes. I think Brandon is just flashy.
I think it really grabs your attention because Brandon is basically shouting. And it's not angry sounding, it's just very direct. Also it has a driving tempo that gives a sense of urgency and the song builds up. I think it's still popular because it's easy to let it all out. Love The Killers and very excited to finally see them later this year (:
Love this, I'm so happy I stumbled upon your channel. And thanks for singing happy birthday to me when you played in Switzerland! I'm just a bit disappointed you didn't comment on that intermission which to me is a nod to "Ode an die Freude". I think that's such a key part of the song...
The intro guitar riff is actually quite complex. It’s way up there on the neck and not super easy to play. That said, this track just sounds amazing. Jumps out of the speakers! The Permission to Land record also did the same. Why question it? It just sounds gooood!!!
Loved how Justin started singing Queen’s “Jealousy”. Jazz was a monster album! Arguably Brian May’s most guitar-ripping showcase, maybe right behind News of the World. But I digress; Great show Justin! Cheers!
Always felt that writing the best songs is being able to say the same thing In a completely unique and new way and Still Keeping it relatable. Mr Bright side has this in spades.
Ive seen many people cry with intense emotion both at their gigs and just at indie clubs. I guess it's the lyrics and the rapid delivery and the climb to the I"m Mr Brightside" makes it.
For me, this was the song from many a great night out at uni. All that energy, that high end guitar riff and, as you say, the way that Brian Havers plays those drums, as a drummer, I absolutely love it!
@@JEM2905 maybe that’s why I liked it. I took me a couple listens when I first picked it up but to me it had a Springsteen vibe. the compositions of the songs sounded familiar.
I was raised LDS -- I find it hilarious and rather charming to hear you discuss it.😂 I still follow most of the lifestyle tenets of the faith, though I don't practice the religion. As for The Killers -- I think they're great songsmiths, I've just never been a fan of this particular song.
I love everything about this analysis! ❤️ I love Justin Hawkins, I love Mr. Brightside, and I love Queens Jealousy. I think the gradual intensity and release of the the song Mr. Brightside makes it something that will never get old to listen to. I agree that the mix of 90s and 2000s sound really great. But it makes it more awesome when Justin sings Queen ❤️❤️❤️❤️🤣
The reasons this song was such a great hit are 2: 1) It is incredibly easy to sing along to, the vocal part spends a lot of time on one note, or moving a step. It fits nicely in the average vocal range too. There is more challenge(?) in the chorus, but not much, and it feels great to sing. People like feeing competent. 2) it sounds great in a pub, when you’re drunk. The song is cocky. I don’t mean lyrically. I think that’s why it did so well in the Uk. That’s it. Don’t look further than that. Yes, there are nice things about the pedal note and the bass line descending, that all helps. But at it’s heart this isn’t a complex song, so don’t make it one.
Brilliant pop rock song. Lyrically it obviously relates to the masses with the relationship drama and anthemic hooks. The guitar intro riff is killer too. We play this one every weekend and every venue goes absolutely Banzai!! Love the tune.
The 2003 version has a very different, more raw sound. Then they re-released it with this epic sound and made the most of the hype with Moulin Rouge by using that theme in the video. So smart and soooo gooood! Best song and music video. I'll forever be a Victim
To me this song exemplifies a few things 1. the tone, tempo and gradual build-up to the crescendo, particularly the line "Jealousy slowly taking over me" perfectly illustrates the cathartic feeling that comes with discovering the bread crumbs of infidelity, the desperation and frantic jealous feelings inside, and the call to action, to basically run straight away and do something , whether it be rational or otherwise. 2. The short rapid bars (the listener discovers the subject's multiple rapidly manifesting fears of this other person's infidelity and behaviour) and the feeling it creates with the subject seemingly unraveling, seems to have lasted the test of time and become the go-to UK anthem. The short domino effect bars make for an easy and great chant, plus the falsetto and elongated "eager eyes" just adds more emotion (the cherry on top of the chant) 3. For me, it's one of those songs that just gets better or I feel like I'm rediscovering it every time it comes back on the air waves, always reminds me of those great early days of the 2000s when people were talking about the dawn of a new rock era with bands like the Strokes, Killers, Bloc Party and Kings of Leon (when they were decent, some people say they never were) but I liked them during that time period.
This Killers song kinda flirts around with ripping off a bit of Bowie's Queen Bitch. That part of Bowie's song that goes: "And I'm phoning a cab' cause my stomach feels small." The Killers have "she's phoning a cab" & "My stomach feels sick." ...all delivered with the same sort of monotone urgency.
The Killers are my favorite band and i also love this channel. Yesterday i googled to find out if Justin has ever said anything about them and a day after i get this video. Damn.
Their latest release Pressure Machine was such a departure from their early stuff, I thought it was brilliant. If you listened to this, then to ‘Quiet Town’ you’d think it wasn’t the same band.
Pressure Machine is the best album they’ve produced possibly since Sams Town, my opinion obviously. I was a little disappointed with the last 2 albums. But still a great band live and lucky to be seeing them again in June 22.
Fully aware Justin likes to dress up and appreciates fine clothes, but naming Hedi Slimane caught me off guard. I must start giving him more credit for his knowledge on fashion!

I grew up Mormon. They wear garments. Older people tend to wear onesies and younger members usually a pair of boxers and t-shirt: a more modern style. The onesies are NOT flattering to the human body. Cheers!

I have always really enjoyed the bass playing on this record. The bass is often placed in the fore taking the lead while the guitar is playing rhythm. Although on this song in particular that is not really the case.
This popped up randomly in my recommendations. I like your hair, and life seems to good for you, you are looking handsome! Excellent critique. Liked and subscribed❤️
I liked The Killers from the start but it was Day & Age that really got me into them. I’ve bought everything since. In fact Sam’s Town really grew on me over the years too. They have their own sound and he has great delivery. Still live his voice isn’t as good as on the albums. Compare him to Tom Chaplin from Keane who is a far better singer but The Killers are cool. The “riff” is a four note motif that sounds like The Edge or a Snow Patrol sped up! “I looked like a piece of actual shit” J Hawkins, 2022. That will look great in a book “The Darkness-In There Own Words!😂🤣😅 That Jealousy imitation has me cracking up. Brilliant Queen song!

@ghost mall I can understand that POV, Brandon Flowers does do the eccentric and kooky lyrics really well. I have no doubt they'll probably go back to that in the next album or two. They've never done the same thing twice.
My sister was a single mom, with one daughter, my niece “N.” When N married S three years ago they decided to do a mom-daughter dance in lieu of the father-daughter dance. This was their song! It was super fun. They started dancing together for the first minute or so then invited everyone to come to the dance floor. It was a great party!
They have a song on their 2020 album Imploding The Mirage called ‘Running Towards a Place’. One of their best songs they’ve wrote since the Hot Fuss days.

Pretty much.
Not relatable to me.
@@AmandaFromWisconsin well lucky you I guess, I hope it stays un relatable for you because it’s a shit thing to go through.
Hot Fuzz and Sam’s Town are two perfect albums. And after that… well … 🤣
Just went to their emirates concert, so good
Just saw them in Norwich, UK. So polished!

Justin, you are a natural entertainer. This channel is great! Keep it up.
He soon got his knickers in a twist during that chat show interview with Richard Dawkins 😃
@@robjgolde3221 first fame often hinders artists:
@@bblovely7788 idk about that. Day and Age is just okay but it has some absolutely amazing songs on it (space man, dustland fairytale), I dislike Battle Born, Wonderful Wonderful was kinda whatever overall but it had some great songs (Tyson vs Douglas for example), Imploding the Mirage was great even though it didn’t hit the heights of their first two albums, and Pressure Machine was very different from their previous work, but I think it’s absolutely fantastic. Even if you dislike all four albums I heavily disagree that they’ve only gotten worse.
Top 5 essences of Mr Brightside:
1) Freedom: Jealousy is one of the more difficult emotions to quickly get yourself out of.
5) Real friends of adventure: The song is ACCEPTANCE, BROTHERHOOD, summed up in this quote from the 1986 film Stand by me:
“I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was 12. Jesus, does anyone?”
this comment goes unbelievably hard. I would read an entire essay about your perspective on Mr Brightside
@@anandamuylaert haha, thank you. I do 'readings' of artworks for my work, and also I have a personal attachment to this song. So I couldn't hold myself back! Cheers for the kind words though :)
Absolutely stunning pov❤
It also has a lot of feeling. Catchiness without emotion isn't as interesting to me. He sounds very hurt indeed.
Justin Hawkins is a genuinely lovely human. I met him once , he was a lovely man.
@Paul Yoxy Me neither.

The song just has unstoppable momentum.
This song never quite had its hooks in me until the Killers performed at the 2017 AFL Grand Final. My team won that year, breaking a 37 year premiership drought and one of our star players jumped up on stage and sung this song with the band during the post match concert. So now this song is anchored to a very positive memory for me

Bands like The Darkness and The Killers were a huge breath of fresh air because no one in the mainstream sounded like that.

sir, you're doing a great job, I like watching your videos. no need to flatter you, you know who you are, but I really appreciate your insights.
Justin, your passion for music and your sense of humor are always a pleasure. Love the videos!

I think the gradual intensity and release of the the song Mr. Brightside makes it something that will never get old to listen to. I agree that the mix of 90s and 2000s sound really great. But it makes it more awesome when Justin sings Queen ❤️❤️❤️❤️🤣
The reasons this song was such a great hit are 2:
1) It is incredibly easy to sing along to, the vocal part spends a lot of time on one note, or moving a step.
It's just a good catchy pop song, don't know what else to say.
For real? I never Made the Moulin Rouge connection.
I love that Bowie song
Very good catch!!!👨🏻🎤
I don’t see it as a rip-off, more of a paraphrase. A reference.

I remember getting Hot Fuss as a gift from my Aunt because I loved the song Somebody Told Me 😂
For some reason I always thought they were English! Like up until very recently lol
“I looked like a piece of actual shit”
J Hawkins, 2022.
That will look great in a book “The Darkness-In There Own Words!😂🤣😅
That Jealousy imitation has me cracking up. Brilliant Queen song!
JH has had the comeback of the 2000s so far. Love you buddy
All these things I have done is the best Killers tune for me 👌
I never understood this too but I love it anyway. I have fond memories of partying with this song playing in the background LOL! 🤣 I also don't know anyone personally who has this as their favorite song but everyone I know seem to have the lyrics to this song memorized.. So yeah good stuff! And amazing video! Watching your videos is a nice way to relax so keep these coming! Can't wait to watch more! 😌
The Mormons can freaking rock at times! May I present into evidence the Osmonds "Crazy Horses" Album...
This brings lots of memories..but When You Were Young is just awesome!
Always have been a big fan of The Killers. Their most recent album Pressure Machine is phenomenal.
@ghost mall I can understand that POV, Brandon Flowers does do the eccentric and kooky lyrics really well. I have no doubt they'll probably go back to that in the next album or two. They've never done the same thing twice.
The lead singer of one of my favorite bands reviewing a song from another one of my favorite bands. That's pretty cool.
Justin I got the pistols reference can we get an "EMI" cover on a future release?
My sister was a single mom, with one daughter, my niece “N.”
When N married S three years ago they decided to do a mom-daughter dance in lieu of the father-daughter dance.
