Just a heads up the floaty slop in gear isn’t the transmission but it’s actually the rubber bushing that is in the factory shift lever. If you swap in a B&M shift lever it makes a world of difference

The points you make are valid on the jk. I have a manual transmission 2016 Rubicon hard Rock and the shifter is not only loose but also noisy. Also noticed that my clutch is squeaky like it sounded on your video. But all in all it is something that I have gotten used to over the 4 years I've had it. I drove a 1500 dodge truck Manual transmission prior to this....not much different

I just purchased 2018 Rubicon Recon with a 6 speed and its been a while since I drove a stick vehicle. As soon as I went to pull it on to the road I was in love with it. Sure, its definitely not the most refined manual trans or vehicle on the face of the earth but my god does it put a smile on your face just putting around haha. Even with the long shifts I just thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I just had to buy the Jeep! Thank you for the video and keep them coming!

Very cool Comp video, I don’t have a manual but I have wondered if it was much different from the JK. Keep up the good video’s dude!! I’ve heard other UA-camr’s say that your videos should hit the algorithm and get suggested more if it’s at least 10 minutes long, I also think it helps with the monetization. 👍🏻 great to see your channel growing.

Good comparative between the two model years. I’m still in the research mode on Jeeps and I’ve never owned one previously. Thought about a four door, but the reality of it is my wife and I don’t really need all of that extra storage space. And having driven MINI Coopers for the past ten years I can see that I’d be happier with a JL and it’s improved transmission. Thank you again for the comparison.

Good review and comparison. I got a completely different impression from the JL clutch though. Even AFTER Stellantis resolved the issues with that really, really bad pressure plate (that was replaced with the Y07 recalls) I still found it to be one of the lowest feedback clutches I've ever driven. Don't know how your Camaro is set up, but I switch between a Mustang tremic that has a much firmer breakpoint, and it still feels more like the old CJ manuals than the Rubicon. If your parents' JK is a 13 it probably has the pentastar I'm guessing? But still had the Benz transmission that came with that 3.8 Benz sled, so FCA was just being cheap IMO. The JLs have a Japanese transmission (Aisin I think?) with crazy ratios and I'm just not happy with it. I found the throw way too long so I installed the Holley B&M shifter which reduced the throw and gives much firmer feedback in the gear changes. But I think that's just a personal pref. I understand Stellantis wanted to make the DX (driving experience) more like a car for consumers and not everyone wants a competition experience, so I get it. But it's getting disheartening to keep watching the Wrangler's slow death march from the CJ banger to soccer mall minivan.

Just thought I'd add: The floppy JK shifter is because of a rubber bushing where the shift handle connects to the transmission. Changing to an aftermarket billet aluminum shift handle will eliminate almost all of it. I personally did the B&M, and it's a night and day improvement. I have a video shared on UA-cam about it

The JK gives you no clue from the engine when it's going to stall when letting out the clutch. I don't like to over rev the engine while engaging the clutch. Since I'll be the one under the jeep replacing the clutch. The engine will not buck or shake to let you know when your close to stalling. It just stalls like you turned off the ignition. You just have to get use to it.

The only thing I didn't like and I am uncertain about the JL is the signals on the front. Jeep shouldn't have put the signal lights in the fenders because often when you take it offroad, those fenders usually gets scraped and damaged especially when you go through narrow paths with boulder of rocks. I mean it's not in a solid panel, so bottom line you are most likely to lose those lights. Just my two cents.

  • @NoLimitsCommemorativ

IMO the JL clutch made it feel like a little toy and completely put me off from buying one-feather light. The ZF8 is an awesome auto and would opt for that over any manual JL and I don't enjoy autos. 2006< i6 manual feels the best, rugged and durable. I wish they were equipped with Tremec manuals so they felt like they could take some beating and are super easy to swap out.
