    That hotel stuff was still happening in the1980's. When I was a little girl every summer my family would go on vacation. My parents liked Myrtle Beach, SC a lot because it was close to Charleston. For the first few years that I can remember my dad would call in a reservation to a hotel a few weeks in advance. But, when we got there they would say they were booked. So, it would take hours going from hotel to hotel before we could settle in and enjoy our vacation. To avoid that, my parents eventually bought time share on Myrtle Beach and we would spend two full weeks there during the summer until they decided to sell it.

    May 11th 2019, day before mother's day. Store clerk refused me samples said I had to wait while she served other customers, all white. A gentleman spoke up, oh it's okay serve her first. She tossed a cup toward me not letting me pick my own. He took 2 and offered me the larger portion. she had a meltdown explaining she'd already given me one. I thanked him, waited till he walked away & dropped it in her trash. All the people still there just stood looking at her. I smiled, knowing she could only dream of being half the lady I am

    I find all of this fascinating even though as a German, this American brand of racism isn't really part of my history. But there's many lessons to be learned from this for all future generations to come. Thanks to the speakers for sharing their stories.

    The world isn't fair, but the society as a whole is moving towards equality. Gender, sexual orientation, the definition of marriage, and even race... the list goes on. It is not a perfect world and far from fair, but it is getting better with time.

    What's trippy to think about is that the south is less racist than the north is today. Like in New York I heard a landlord didn't rent to a doctor just because he was black and the other landlords would attack him for it. Like that shit would never fly here in the south. That's just awful but I guess the reason it's progressed so much is because we're the most diverse region of the nation

    • @kingreddreadtheprinceofmel8114
      @kingreddreadtheprinceofmel8114 6 років тому

      Not at all. The west is more diverse by far, And its still very somewhat racist to live in the south its "subtle racism" I'm born and raised In Tennessee.Not the funniest or most progressive state to live in.

      Michael McClay Democrats want this. Especially white liberals. They lost their agricultural plantations in 1865. Now they want to keep blacks on an economic and political plantation. Just look at the Democratic run cities over the last 75 years. The evidence is right in front of your eyes. Look up "Hillary Clinton hot sauce."

Just pointing fingers. No they did it, nuh unit was the Republicans,nnnooo it was the Democrats, nnooo it was the Africans who sold them blah blah blah

These people are disgusting bigots and racists. I have lived in the South all my life. I really believed when I was a child that when those old racists were put in the ground, things would change. I remember when we wanted to be better. I was wrong.

      Joe F ok smart guy, let’s take your words and apply it to a hypothetical scenario, if I am arguing that skin color is irrelevant to job applications, and I say “since when does skin color determine your ability to work?” The point of the argument is to say that anybody should have opportunity to work, regardless of there skin color... but I used skin color in my argument... but according to your logic, I’m racist.. right?

      So you're saying that having a resume thrown away is comparable to not being able to stop for gas at night because you might be lynched or beaten? I think if you can't see that there has been a MAJOR decrease in the amount and severity of racism in America you are the naive one. 50 years ago they couldn't even apply for the job you're talking about.
      If you've seen that they you know individuals who are racist, but that doesn't mean that the system is broken

    • @MicMan123456789
      @MicMan123456789 6 років тому

      and when you turn to crime you can't work... all blaming "racism" does is cement the idea that all problems aren't due to their own moral failings.
      The gangs are the only thing right now stopping the inner-city's/ghettos from moving up economically.
