My travel watch is a Casio G Shock GW-M5610 Tough Solar Multiband. Has everything I need and bullet proof.

This is very dependent on location, but generally a G-Shock for active stuff and a diver on a bracelet to pull double duty for both sporty casual and potentially "nicer" outings.

My go to travel watch is a Casio G-Shock square solar. It has no bluetooth functionality which I prefer. I have multiple timezone capability, alarms, stop watch, water resistant etc. It's meant to be banged around and keep going even though I try to not be rough on it. Then depending on what your plans are bring another watch of your choosing for whatever those needs are. I was at a theme park last year, I was split up from my party on a ride and was solo and another dad that was in a similar situation was seated next to me and he had his Rolex Kermit (I think from a glance). To each their own and I fully understand someone wearing a really nice watch wherever they go if they choose to make memories with, but I prefer a more rugged and less expensive watch in an environment where accidents are more prevelant or people aren't paying attention to what they're doing. That's my two cents. Thanks Marc.

My last beach trip, I took my Casio Blue Marlin Duro with a bevy of nylon straps and it was great. I've also replaced the crystal with sapphire to keep it from getting scratched up / dulled in the sand. I also bring a tan leather strap with it in case I want to dress it up a little bit.

Been travelling last year with my GW5000 U and Sinn U50. Two very different watches, yet both extremly durable. Thats why I chose them. I couldn't decide which was actually better, but for changing time zones on a flight, reading time in the night, going through airport securities, I always wore my Casio. It was very conveniend. But as soon as I was hitting the beach or felt like wearing something "nicer" I grabbed the Sinn. I guess these two will stay my companions for the next travels ahead 😊

I sometimes go on a long distance walking trip, sleeping in my one man tent overnight. I'm quite good at weather signs but my G-shock with barometric function is invaluable for giving early signs that I need to find shelter. G-shocks in general have so much functionality that is useful while on holiday.

Love the yellow CasiOak 👍 It’s been with me on every vacation to sun and surf and sand since I bought it…. And so has at least one - mostly two - automatics, as well. Maybe a Baltic Aquascaphe, a Northpoint or the trusty old handwound Speedy

Last time I was flying, I really liked having my Casio Duro on my wrist. The bezel made it really easy to mark boarding times, so I had an idea of how much time I had to rush through the airport. I suppose a diver with Arabics rather than just geometric indices would be even handier, for nicer legibility.

Great review & comparison of the two watches! I tend to travel with less expensive watches. $30 timex and $15 Casios. More for safety in case watches get lost or stolen. Casio W800h also has dual time so it’s been great to travel with.

Digital watches are fantastic for travel with the only real downside being how much of a pain in the ass they are to change the time. It always takes me a minute or two to remember how to change the time and which buttons to press. I started traveling with an analog watch nowadays because of how quick and simple it is to set the time.

For me, everytime I leave my country traveling, that is about twice a year and ussualy between a few weeks to a couple months, I wear my seiko sne573 38mm solardiver with the awesome long island watches o-style bracelet.
Black matte dial, "photon powered", seiko-submariner hybrid design, weight just right for me, slim, extremely accurate, GADA and the softened click beezle and tells me the time night and day.

For any travel across time zones, the Casio World Timer is cheaper than either (no worries if stolen), easier to see different time zones, and lighter even than the GShock.
And then wear one of Marc’s watches when you’re going out so the Parisian waiters don’t judge you.

  • @tinentdan
    @tinentdan 6 місяців тому

I have that same gshock, and use it for work. Changed the yellow band and cover for a black one with yellow words to make it more subdued. Great for going through the metal detector. Never had to take it off. Other good options would be a titanium diver or gmt. For example a citizen eco drive for quartz or an RZE titanium diver or gmt. On a rubber strap it would be lighter. On a budget, the casio AE 1200 has the world timer, and the silver one would be a bit more dressy. You can always upgrade it with an aftermarket steel case with sapphire crystal, and if you want, the bracelet, but that would make it less comfortable, less budget friendly and make it bleep on the airport metal detector.

I’d bring one of my Seikos. Specifically, my skx009. I have so many straps and bracelets for it so I can dress it up and down without having to bring another watch. Especially if it’s a tropical vacation where I’m not being very formal environment but still I think with a nice bracelet you could at least get away with wearing an SKX or an Islander SKX with a suit or business/business casual attire.

I decided upon my Islander X Phoibos Eagle ray in aqua, as its got that great summer vibe and just delivered yesterday a JDM G-Shock Origin GW-S5600U-1JF tough solar/Titanium/Carbon fibre, so its very light and has everything built in (no bluetooth thankfully though).

Hi Mark! Love your points and concluding on the casioak as a great travel watch! Me and my partner are travelling for 6 months and I wanted to take two watches that could do it all but be dissimilar enough to have a 'dinner watch' so took the casioak and the titanium fully lumed lorus for £30. Would love to see you and TGV discuss this topic as I think it's a great realistic 'desert island' scenario! Thanks!

Probably three watches for a vacation. First, a dressy three hand on a leather strap (black dial and strap - works for me!) for dinner and a show. Second, something sportier on a bracelet for the casino. And finally, something for exploration and shopping while strolling unfamiliar streets. A Casio or field watch fits this last role perfectly.

I like to have automatic & solar- Casio Oceanus, Casio Edifice or an economic ani - digi solar ( pre Casioak ) & a citizen promaster or the Ray Mears ( durable; not that cheap but it's fugly & people won't notice).
    I haven't spent ( yet) more than US $600 on a watch ( a CW63 36 in a sale).
Taking a watch of high value ( money or emotional) on holiday or to a large city in summer is a - 'no- go' for me. Even bright nato straps- go & be grey/gray.

    Hi Marc.
I recently received your titanium SKX.
I do like it, but it's not as comfortable as my Seiko turtle.
The SKX crown guards dig into the wrist when working all day and make the SKX uncomfortable for all day use.
I can use the Seiko turtle all week and not have that problem.
The turtle is a heavier watch but it's more ergonomically designed.
The Seiko turtle case is much better than the SKX case.
    Thank you Marc.

For me, has to have a crown, changing time with push pins is a pain, and hundred percent will not take a digital, unless it has a few time zones easily selected. Perfect travel watch: Black (no bling), metal bracelet (swimming, sweat, easy on off), 100 meters or more, analog, gmt nice but not necessary. Just spit balling, but something like a black Turtle with a digital readout for second time zone at the date area would be the perfect travel watch. Not flashy, water friendly, not too bulky so can wear to dinner, easy to read analogue, with a second time zone in the date window area.

If my automatic breaks on vacation, I am headed to the first place that sells Casio G-Shocks or at minimum a 10 bar normal Casio.

Hers a controversial opinion- not mechanical 😮. Also it has to be something doesn’t attract to much attention or you can afford to loose get smashed. I have this Casio & quite a few Seiko while I like the Casio but it is hard to see easily in low light, one handed etc. I travel with a Seiko V157.

Marc, all you watches will move around excessively as you wear them loose like a bangle.
