This is a hilarious video, Marc needs to avoid truth serum before he makes these videos! This is why so many people are loyal to you. One honest business man.
This is a really helpful video. You're not wrong either. The springbar tool I got with my Seagull 1963 broke straight away. My old man always used to say invest in a good set of tools and you have them for life.
I bought the Burgeon 6767 after bending/breaking the ends of cheaper variants. I bought a good priced set of screwdrivers from China that can use the Burgeon blade inserts if (and when) needed. Haven't had the need yet as the quality of the originals are very good. One thing I've learned over the years is good quality tools (regardless of the trade) are so much more satisfying to use than cheap rubbish.
I have Bergeon screw drivers for Rolex and Omega and I also own the Bergeon spring bar tools (both models) - I've owned them for over 10 to 12 years, and they're still fantastic.
YES. The next one is a truly good quality case back opener. I have a three point LG. You can generate a tremendous amount of torque and it NEVER slips.
So true. I have a Bergeron spring bar tool and it is worth the price and then some. I also have a cheap version. Both have the broad fork on one end and the precision fork on the other. I can immediately tell the cheap one when I pick it up because the broad fork is bent. It’s made out of pot metal. A tough leather strap will literally make it fold.
Good call on the springbar tool! I started off with an el-cheapo springbar/link removal set for $10, and I would always slip a few times when changing out the straps. Needless to say, I'd have some scratches on the inside or under the lugs. Fast-forward to the Bergeon springbar tool, and I'm swapping straps first try every time. It's a night and day difference.
What's cool here, Marc, is your making a distinction between the kind of tool most of us will use a *lot* versus the ones we might use once in the proverbial blue moon. The spring bar tool clearly sits in the first category, and I've gone though two cheapie examples, and you've just convinced me to buy a Burgeon from you as I write this. (See? These videos ARE effective.)
I bought the Bergeon spring bar tool from Long Island Watch over 2 years ago (added to a watch order). It's still going strong after a lot of use. They are high quality tools.
Love your watches and many times the watches you're wearing may top the video for the day so what I'm getting at is that you should put a direct link to the two specific watches you are wearing (with that specific strap) for the video, as they may not be available as you are showing them. I bet that this will get you some sales I love that orange one though I just recently started wearing a much larger size
100% agree. The Bergeon is worth every penny. I opted for the 7767 for a few bucks more because it has a tendency to roll less because it has deeper knurling. I have two of them plus spare forks and pins. I think a good case back opener would be my next recommendation over screwdrivers. And add a role of Kapton tape to protect lugs and case backs from scratches.
When I was in the Air Force a long time ago, our trainers used to say "Use the right tool for the right job". That is once piece of advice I followed the rest of my life.
Appreciate the fact that the screwdriver you include with the Islander watches are of good quality. I used to use the free spring bar tools that came with some straps or spring bars, and they are absolute crap. I bought a watch tool set similar to the one you showed and have been using that but the spring bar tool in the set still feels cheap. I have been putting it off, but I guess I'll have to tack on another $22 the next time I order from you.
Couldn't agree more. All the "cheap" tools I ever bought were probably more expensive than a high quality equivalent would've been ... because the cheap ones don't do a good job and they tend to break or wear out much quicker. If you've ever tried to assemble an Ikea product with the super basic Allen-keys they provide you with in the package and then switched to a set of high-end Allen-keys (and/or bits for a power screwdriver), you'll know.
Well said Mark, as usual! Until you buy the first good tool for your watch, you won't believe the difference it'll make. That happened to me in particular with a set of serious screwdrivers: just unbelievable!! Thank you for your contents.
I love this video it's so digestible and easy to understand you are hands down the best at breaking things down and making it easy to understand great video.
yes good small screwdrivers are often difficult to find , the cheap one will often brake , or not grab well philips screw , use them most for small electronics or for camera lent's , and often they use lock tight on throws
I have that same tool kit and I agree that the screwdrivers are junk. The screwdriver that comes with your watches is much better. I should get a better springbar tool someday. Thanks for the advice. Have a great afternoon! 🙏🏼
Another great video and it's so true! I feel like the knurling on the 6767 is almost too aggressive and doesn't run the full handle. I've found I prefer the 7767 knurling (what I call "corn cob"). It runs the length of the handle and I get a nice grip.
My Burgeon spring bar tool found its way into my pen cup too. That bad boy is night and day compared to the complimentary gear that comes with most straps. My drivers are an affordable micro driver kit I bought on Amazon, they're Chinese made but also superior to the free stuff.
My first tool kit was purchased through the big A and the screwdrivers, springbar tool, and caseback opening tool is trash. I went with Bergeon tools and it changed everything. Don't forget to buy extra tips, though. I wear multiple watches a day and change out bracelets and straps routinely. The Bergeron has paid for itself. Thank you, Marc!
@1:24 Marc must know his stuff because I, as a relatively new watch enthusiast, not only invested in this exact spring bar tool from his website, it sits in my pen and pencil cup that keep on my desk. That moment really couldn't have been more on the nose.
Appreciate the candour Mark. I bought a set from Amazon. They are crap. The screwdriver was pathetic. After a few uses it the tip almost melted away. 😮 You don’t ship to India. Our loss. Let’s hope you do some time soon. Been a viewer of your channel for a long time. I also appreciate the watch and learn series as I got into the rabbit hole 😊 Best
I bought the 5 screw driver set made by a Swiss company. They cost me £75.As i am a jeweller by trade i never skimp on jewellery watch tools.Jewellery and watches are quality products, they deserve quality tools and workmanship.
I can vouch for the driver that comes with the Islander watches. When I got my first Islander I had to laugh to myself because the driver included was better quality than all the others I already had. You can feel they are well constructed.
Great tip. I use some freebees or ones from kits, and ... they are always trouble. I'll add one of these to my next Island order (not that I am buying any watches, ever, never, nope, don't show any good ones okay.. just fyi)
When I got into this hobby about 8 years ago I bought cheap Chinese springbar tools. I broke the teeth off in record time. On all of them. I finally got the Bergeon 6767-F and the difference is night and day. I've been using the same tool for the last 7 years and I change straps like a fiend.
Hi Marc. What about your tool kit (that is currently out of stock) TSA9011? Are You just not selling that one anymore? Not only does it come with a few more tool but it seems some may be better quality? How are the drivers in that kit compared to the one You mentioned? Speaking of quality… I truly believe You should do a video on Spring Bar quality and who makes the best, third party of course. Is $5 a bar set really better than $2 a set..
Hey Marc, enjoyed this video and the honesty. I’ve held off buying the tool set due to concerns about the screwdrivers and spring bar tools. Would you consider an upgraded kit with Bergeon spring bar tool and the quality screwdrivers that you include with Islander bracelets? I would order several of an upgraded kit; at least one for me another for a nephew who is getting into watches.
I don't know I recently bought a bracelet from this random place for my Citizen NY0040 and they threw in a pretty nice screwdriver with it. Its like heat blued and has this little laser-etched Islander logo on it. Price was right, you know. If I'm lucky there'll be a free high-end springbar tool thrown in with an blue aventurine dial Brookville sometime in the near future ;)
I saw for the kits ya'll had a regular one and semi-pro one that was sold out. Is it worth holding out for the semi-pro one whenever that gets restocked, or is it not getting restocked?
Thank you, Marc! Maybe I missed it, but would you recommend a larger WatchBox for us? I only see smaller ones available on your website and there are so many from which to choose, I’m not sure where to start.
@islandwatch No I mean I bought a cheapo...and I do regret it. Forks destroyed after a few uses, and managed to scratch a watch (luckily not an expensive one)
Mark, I really like the screwdrivers you give away. Do you sell a full set of those in different sizes? I'm looking for an upgrade over my cheapos, but the Burgeon is too much $. (Though I have their springbar tool you show, worth every penny.)
Here is my money saving tip if you already have a cheap spring bar tool like the one in your kit. Buy the Bergeon tips - they have a version which will fit the cheap tool. The tips are the important part and should not be skimped on, especially the small ones. I always buy a few spares of the small tips whenever I place an order for other stuff from Cousins.
Bergeon makes incredible tools. They are more expensive than most of their competitors, but they are worth it. I was lucky enough to pick up a Bergeon circlip tool that’s no longer made, online and it really helps.
Completely agree, I tried to remove some very small screws from a Cartier with a cheap screwdriver, and it was impossible. It was scratching the watch and breaking the screwdriver. I bought a Bergeon, and with that, I was able to remove it without any issues.
I have your tool kit that you showed, and the curved end of the spring bar tool lost a tine nearly immediately! That's okay, the kit is indeed very useful for the few shekels it costs! You are right about tools making a difference. I'm sure I've helped send our Snap-On tool guy's kids to college, but again, tools absolutely make a difference, and can make a difference between spoiling a piece of equipment, or not sometimes.
@@islandwatch Yes, they are top class. Craftsman were good, honest tools, back when. But Snap-On tools are top flight pro tools. And their business model is built around putting the tools into hands to make people want them, and then financing them to make the sale! Tool guy is like the Devil! But. You can dicker and save quite a bit with cash, because their astronomical prices are due in part because of the financing.
Better tools make the job easier but some practice is needed too. I wouldn't recommend doing your first bracelet removal/adjustment on your brand new Submariner. Try something from Ali first. 😉😉
I use my ifixit kit for a screwdriver. Works well for me tbh but I can see why people would want the one featured here. The ifixit kit was one of the most useful purchases I’ve made, has come in handy in so many applications
If anything, the Bergeon spring bar tool is worth buying so you don't *constantly* slip and stab yourself in the palm with one of the mini ones you get with your straps. Speaking from experience.
Good small screwdrivers can be really hard to find. This tiny side screw makes swan neck regulator not worth it. Most drivers were too big to fit or too short and thick handle catches side of the case.
....okay. Years ago I bought an Orient Ray 1...and the spring bar tool they sent with the watch was the cheapest thing I've ever seen...it was from Longisland🤣🤣
I tried contacting Long Island Watch twice over 3 days and nothing. I don't know what he's talking about how people always email him. I guess he may read them, can anyone chime in...does he answer anyone?
This is a hilarious video, Marc needs to avoid truth serum before he makes these videos! This is why so many people are loyal to you. One honest business man.
LOL, thank you.
Marc is the absolute best!I buy a lot of stuff from him ,because he is very honest and just a great person!
Just ordered 3 of the spring bar tools based on this video. Lots of respect for the honesty
The transparency is extremely appreciated.
welcome!
Respect the honesty, when you can afford it and you know your going to use it , buy once, cry once, if you can
The saying "You get what you pay for" is ESPECIALLY true with tools. As is "Buy once, cry once". Totally worth the cost for good tools.
Marc, you always remind me why I've bought 5 + watches from you. Keep up the great content, insight and great work!
This is a really helpful video. You're not wrong either. The springbar tool I got with my Seagull 1963 broke straight away. My old man always used to say invest in a good set of tools and you have them for life.
So true, thank you

How refreshingly honest! 👍
I try
This is why I like Marc and his watches. He’s honest! LOL.
Many positive comments here for you and your business- all well deserved.
I have Bergeon screw drivers for Rolex and Omega and I also own the Bergeon spring bar tools (both models) - I've owned them for over 10 to 12 years, and they're still fantastic.
Who else would care spending some time to record a video like this in a marketing frenzied world we live in? Thank you Marc🙏
YES. The next one is a truly good quality case back opener. I have a three point LG. You can generate a tremendous amount of torque and it NEVER slips.

You are so right! Great advice, that's why you are a legend.
Absolutely agree with Marc, the 6767 tool is just fabulous to use. Bergeon tools are just great.
I have the burgeon spring bar tool and it’s fantastic, use it every day
What's cool here, Marc, is your making a distinction between the kind of tool most of us will use a *lot* versus the ones we might use once in the proverbial blue moon. The spring bar tool clearly sits in the first category, and I've gone though two cheapie examples, and you've just convinced me to buy a Burgeon from you as I write this. I bought the Bergeon spring bar tool from Long Island Watch over 2 years ago (added to a watch order). It's still going strong after a lot of use. They are high quality tools.
sure are!

I agree with you I actually searched his webpage for the orange watch with the strap he's wearing and couldn't find it
Always pinch myself after watching Marc. I must be dreaming. Small business man and honesty... In the same video? Same person??!!
100% agree. The Bergeon is worth every penny. I opted for the 7767 for a few bucks more because it has a tendency to roll less because it has deeper knurling. You are a stand up bro, bro. I always appreciated the included screwdriver, but this is great info.
thanks!
Videos like this makes me want to continue purchasing from Long Island watch.
When I was in the Air Force a long time ago, our trainers used to say "Use the right tool for the right job". That is once piece of advice I followed the rest of my life.
it's great advice
Love the screw driver you sent me along with my watch, use it all the time very nice bonus ty 👍🏼
yeah, it's a good one
I have both of the springbar tools you showcased. Couldn't live without them. One or the other are never far from reach.
Good to hear
Appreciate the fact that the screwdriver you include with the Islander watches are of good quality. I used to use the free spring bar tools that came with some straps or spring bars, and they are absolute crap. only way
lol that’s what I said when I got my bergeon you can tell the quality just from picking it up. I like that the tips are replaceable too ❤
Well said Mark, as usual! Until you buy the first good tool for your watch, you won't believe the difference it'll make. That happened to me in particular with a set of serious screwdrivers: just unbelievable!! Thank you for your contents.
Very true!
Hey there Mark, that Orange Spinnaker must have clocked up quite a few frequent flyer points by now. 😉 I'm loving mine. 👍
I love this video it's so digestible and easy to understand you are hands down the best at breaking things down and making it easy to understand great video.
thanks!
Excellent video!😊
I have the Long Island Watch screwdriver. Its a good tool. I use it sometimes. But mostly I use the Bergeon Springbar tool. Absolutely love it. 😂
it's a fan favorite!
yes good small screwdrivers are often difficult to find , the cheap one will often brake , or not grab well philips screw , use them most for small electronics or for camera lent's , and often they use lock tight on throws

thanks much!
Really great call on these necessary tools! Great video, Marc. ✨
thanks kind Sir!
I was hoping to see the $500 bezel tool. I bought the Bergeon screw set. It makes sense when you have an expensive watch.
Another great video and it's so true!
I feel like the knurling on the 6767 is almost too aggressive and doesn't run the full handle. I've found I prefer the 7767 knurling (what I call "corn cob"). It runs the length of the handle and I get a nice grip.
I'll check it out
I went Bergeon for my spring bar tool and screwdrivers. Quality tools.
everytime!
My Burgeon spring bar tool found its way into my pen cup too. That bad boy is night and day compared to the complimentary gear that comes with most straps. My drivers are an affordable micro driver kit I bought on Amazon, they're Chinese made but also superior to the free stuff.
Right on

Don't forget to buy extra tips, though. I wear multiple watches a day and change out bracelets and straps routinely. The Bergeron has paid for itself. Thank you, Marc!
“Multiple watches a day” I thought ‘m the only one doing that. In ma case ‘m doing it more than 3 times a day
tips for sure
Just a good post. A decent spring bar tool is every watch collectors freind.
yup! So True
Hey Marc! I just noticed that you’re creeping up on 200K Subs!! Congrats! 💪🏻😎👍🏻
Thanks for your insight on this topic.
thanks!!!! Trying to get there!
@1:24 Marc must know his stuff because I, as a relatively new watch enthusiast, not only invested in this exact spring bar tool from his website, it sits in my pen and pencil cup that keep on my desk. That moment really couldn't have been more on the nose.
ha, perfect!!!!!
so true, i had a cheap tool set from amazon and the spring bar tool that i always use broke easily.
yup!
Thank you for the honesty.
My pleasure!
Appreciate the candour Mark.
I bought a set from Amazon. They are crap. The screwdriver was pathetic. After a few uses it the tip almost melted away. 😮
You don’t ship to India. Our loss. Let’s hope you do some time soon.
Been a viewer of your channel for a long time.
I also appreciate the watch and learn series as I got into the rabbit hole 😊
Best
We ship worldwide. India is included. LOL
Thank you. Sharing your experience with us is appreciated. Can I have too many tools? Not yet
nobody can
I really like the Long Island screwdriver, i honestly used it on all my Chinese made watches…
Would buy a set of those if i could!
sweet
Great presentation and information as always Marc!!
Much appreciated!
I bought the 5 screw driver set made by a Swiss company. They cost me £75.As i am a jeweller by trade i never skimp on jewellery watch tools.Jewellery and watches are quality products, they deserve quality tools and workmanship.
Wheels Up Be well my friend and Thanks for sharing as always 👍
thanks!
Good info. Thanks!
“They” say - don’t buy the watch buy the dealer ……nuff said 👏
that is true and what I preach
A stand up fella 🤌 Salute!
thanks!
I really need to “spring” for those Bergeron tools…
Two advantages of the Bergeon spring bar tools are the availability of replacement tips and the build quality.
I can vouch for the driver that comes with the Islander watches. When I got my first Islander I had to laugh to myself because the driver included was better quality than all the others I already had. You can feel they are well constructed.
Haha, I know, I have 4 on my desk right now!
Great tip. I use some freebees or ones from kits, and ... they are always trouble. I'll add one of these to my next Island order (not that I am buying any watches, ever, never, nope, don't show any good ones okay.. just fyi)
haha, thanks!
When I got into this hobby about 8 years ago I bought cheap Chinese springbar tools. I broke the teeth off in record time. On all of them. I finally got the Bergeon 6767-F and the difference is night and day. I've been using the same tool for the last 7 years and I change straps like a fiend.
Sweet!
Quality tools make a big difference.
yup

Would you consider an upgraded kit with Bergeon spring bar tool and the quality screwdrivers that you include with Islander bracelets? I would order several of an upgraded kit; at least one for me another for a nephew who is getting into watches.
Probably just be way too expensive.
Holy moly, can't believe you noticed the logo! Good eyes.
Great respect for your advice and your products!
thanks.
Any chance you could do a video on how YOU actually use the spring bar tool to put a bracelet on a watch?
I've done that, more than once, probably more than 5 times. Just review our watch and learn series.
I saw for the kits ya'll had a regular one and semi-pro one that was sold out. Is it worth holding out for the semi-pro one whenever that gets restocked, or is it not getting restocked?
1. Your nails are clean; that’s what counts.
2. So yes to good tools. You won’t dread or delay changing or adjusting straps.
LOL, thank you
Thank you, Marc! Maybe I missed it, but would you recommend a larger WatchBox for us? I only see smaller ones available on your website and there are so many from which to choose, I’m not sure where to start.
go to Amazon!
Good honest video and I appreciate that. Please put the gloves back on......... lol
Ha!
2k subscribers away from the 200k mark Mark.. Hope you get there soon!
Me too!
Marc, how about an Islander diver with a California dial. You could call it the Sag Harbor. Just food for thought !
interesting idea!
I did....and I do
sweet
@islandwatch No I mean I bought a cheapo...and I do regret it. Forks destroyed after a few uses, and managed to scratch a watch (luckily not an expensive one)
Mark, I really like the screwdrivers you give away. Do you sell a full set of those in different sizes? I'm looking for an upgrade over my cheapos, but the Burgeon is too much $. (Though I have their springbar tool you show, worth every penny.)
that's an interesting idea. . . never thought of it.
Here is my money saving tip if you already have a cheap spring bar tool like the one in your kit. Buy the Bergeon tips - they have a version which will fit the cheap tool. The tips are the important part and should not be skimped on, especially the small ones. I always buy a few spares of the small tips whenever I place an order for other stuff from Cousins.
very interesting, didn't know.
Bergeon makes incredible tools. They are more expensive than most of their competitors, but they are worth it. I was lucky enough to pick up a Bergeon circlip tool that’s no longer made, online and it really helps.
They are the best.
They are most definitely not worth it unless you're a professional. Ridiculously overpriced.
Completely agree, I tried to remove some very small screws from a Cartier with a cheap screwdriver, and it was impossible. It was scratching the watch and breaking the screwdriver. I bought a Bergeon, and with that, I was able to remove it without any issues.
Yeah, I hear that!
Yes Best Get Quality...
definitely
I have your tool kit that you showed, and the curved end of the spring bar tool lost a tine nearly immediately! That's okay, the kit is indeed very useful for the few shekels it costs! is snap-on still quality? Craftsman has taken a dive
@@islandwatch Yes, they are top class. Craftsman were good, honest tools, back when. But Snap-On tools are top flight pro tools. Marc, do you think that more watch brands will permanently switch to quick release spring bars in the future ?
Nope, even if only a few pennies more, it adds up
Better tools make the job easier but some practice is needed too. I wouldn't recommend doing your first bracelet removal/adjustment on your brand new Submariner. Try something from Ali first. 😉😉
that is so true! The first scratch hurts the most
You left out the most important thing! A little rubber ball for case backs! This tip of yours cost me all of $1,98 and saved me 5 years of cursing!
Have only ever used the cheapest spring bar tools or the free ones you get with a new strap, have never once had any issues. 🤷♂️
For me, thin and ordinary screwdriver is better than dedicated tool the for removing telescopes
I but everything I need from Bergeon. As they say, but once-cry once. Last a lifetime
yup!
I use my ifixit kit for a screwdriver. Works well for me tbh but I can see why people would want the one featured here. The ifixit kit was one of the most useful purchases I’ve made, has come in handy in so many applications
sounds cool, I will check it out.
Bergeron is the watchmakers Snap-On Tools, high-quality, high priced
for sure!
Enthusiast as well as a businessman. That’s why we watch… pun intended.
LOL, thank you. Nice pun, it was punny.
If anything, the Bergeon spring bar tool is worth buying so you don't *constantly* slip and stab yourself in the palm with one of the mini ones you get with your straps. Speaking from experience.
I hear ya!
Good small screwdrivers can be really hard to find. This tiny side screw makes swan neck regulator not worth it. Most drivers were too big to fit or too short and thick handle catches side of the case.
agreed, super small slot
....okay. Years ago I bought an Orient Ray 1...and the spring bar tool they sent with the watch was the cheapest thing I've ever seen...it was from Longisland🤣🤣
Anyone who says Mark isn't honest should be shone this video.
