    Great tutorial. I decided to make 1 granny square a week & at the end of the year join them all together. I will be making 8 or 10 of these to my afghan. Thank you for sharing this beautiful tutorial.

    I loved this, thank you! Very clear and helpful. Quick q - if I get to the end of the round and find that I'm short by a few stitches, how should I fix? Do you frog back until the mistake and re-do?

    • @julescraftfolk
      @julescraftfolk  10 місяців тому +1

      I’m glad you liked it! If I’m short at the end of the round I prefer to frog back to where I missed the stitch…that’ll make sure all sides of your square are even. Does this happen on the same round each time? If so you might need to check that the join and first few stitches of that round are in the right spot 😀

      @@julescraftfolk I'll check those stitches next! I also think it's just a learning curve - I keep finding new, different mistakes on each circle I try 😅but we persist!

    • @julescraftfolk
      @julescraftfolk  7 місяців тому +6

      You can increase the circle part of this square. Here is the pattern: 1st round: 12 dc. 2nd round: 24 dc. 3rd round: 36 dc. 4th round: 48 dc. 5th round: 60 dc. 6th round: 72 dc. Hope that helps!

      @julescraftfolk if we make the circle bigger, what is the pattern to do the square part from there?

  • @scarletcarpenter1919
    @scarletcarpenter1919 10 місяців тому

    is there a way to start this square without a magic ring, i just find my work never comes out as good if i start with a magic ring x

    • @julescraftfolk
      @julescraftfolk  10 місяців тому +3

      Sure thing! Try starting with a slip knot on your hook, chain 3, join with a slip stitch into the first chain (see how this makes a circle with a hole in the middle). Then chain 3 for the first double crochet. Then work the 11 double crochet into the middle of your joined chains (work over the tail end of your yarn so it’s getting caught under your stitches in the circle of chains) then join with a slip stitch to the first double crochet. You will probably have a visible hole in the middle, but if you pull that tail end you worked over it should close up. Then with a darning needle stitch in this yarn end, knot it, and weave in the end. I hope that sort of makes sense! Good luck with it! 😀

    Good morning. Could you tell me the exact yarn (name) that you are using. I’m new and I get confused by the sizes. Thanks. Love your projects

      Hi! I’m using the ‘Avalon’ yarn from Morris and Sons - it’s an 8ply yarn!

      Hi there! I'm using a 3.5mm hook and 8ply/DK weight yarn.

    I did an extra round on the circle and I'm confused as to how I make it a square now? There's 48 stitches

      I would add 3 more sc to each side (5 sc total) since you added 12 more stitches

    Does anyone know what 8ply yarn translates to in the US?

    • @julescraftfolk

      Hi! I think you call it DK weight yarn...or the internet says maybe you call it Weight Category 3 Light yarn?

    • @julescraftfolk
      @julescraftfolk  6 місяців тому

      How many do you get? You might be missing going into the base of the very first stitch after you chain up at the start of the round.

    If I want to make the circle bigger, how do I do the first round of the square ? 😊

    • @julescraftfolk
      @julescraftfolk  6 місяців тому

      Hello, it depends on how much bigger you choose to make the circle. Make sure you can divide the number of stitches in the circle into 4, these will be the sides of your next round. Then depending on the size of your circle you'll need to do some trial and error to figure out what stitches to use to be the right height to turn your circle into a square. Then do 4 identical sides with the corner stitches in between. Hope that helps!
