  • Louis ViTen , My 2008 Ford F-250 made it through Ultimate Adventure 2023! But not without a few bent, broken, or worn out parts. On this episode I pull it back into the Dirthead Shed to take care of a few items before hitting the road again. This time it's a 1200 mile road trip to Las Vegas for it to appear in the Real Truck booth at Sema Fest. Follow along as I address the rear gear set noises, bent shocks, and damaged steering.

didn't know they make air lockers for those, can only guess they work the same as a grizzly locker but the spring is replaced with an air cylinder... so the unlock tension can be adjusted. but i have one of those axles in a car, thinking of the OEM limited slip option would be a near locker its self for a car using it because of the rear weight difference. those even as a open center have as much traction as a locked/spool 8.8/9 inch axle, just from the weight difference. 4 link aam1150 car? if it gets coil overs on the rear the bump stops move and it gets 3 inches lower. 330-550lb/in springs are very stiff for a straight axle car. "163lb/in was the oem" would need a sway bar using that soft of springs or the single wheel compressive articulation would be way to soft.

The zip locker does not act like a grizzly. The piston essentially jams the spider gears making it into a spool when engaged

Dave, love watching your fab work & builds over the years.
    An observation from the bleachers….
If you experience some twist in your rear control arms while out wheeling, consider this design change. An enclosed shape (4-sided square, rectangle, or tube) resists twist better than an open channel (3-sided) of equivalent wall thickness. Think twisty OE stamped front & rear control arms. If you were to mount the shock above the CA using heavy-duty tabs on each side of the box, you’d have a link much more resistant to twist. Twisting may have been why the original shock bent.
Think Pre-Runners & SCORE race trucks.

It’s not the metal that is twisting. I have Jonny joint style rode ends front and rear. I just need to make some wobble stoppers for the frame side rod end.
