Why? You commented your opinion so why shouldn't I get to? That's what the comment section is for. Don't get butt hurt just because someone doesn't like what you like.
What a thorough review! Unboxing, exterior features, speaker sound, spec features, ram replacement demo, gaming demo, benchmarks, fusion drive demo. Edited well. All reviews should b like this.
I build my families PC's, I use PC and mac, IT is no secret that you can build a faster PC for less than a mac. I dont know what it is, must be the OS, but MAC seems to run faster and smoother than a PC with higher specks, especially for recording/audio work. I am not Biased, I own both, and PC/MAC are both great computers. The one thing I could not see is using a small ass macbook for audio work, I could not imagine editing audio regions on that small ass thing. Also even is the macbook and imac CPU's spec the same, one is made for laptops, and one for desktop...desktop being the winner no matter what!
Seriously, your reviews put every major site to shame. So detailed and well informed. I am saving towards the 27 inch, but will be waiting on Rev B. Excellent!
Omg this waste of money, you can build a better pc for only $1000. Just kidding., I have one of these and it is GREAT. I love iMac. It just looks awesome and performs well with office stuff. Sure it's expensive but you will probably impress more people with an iMac than a dull ass gaming pc.
But you can actually game on a pc and there are more games if you are going to do more audio or video type things= mac but gaming=pc it really matters what you want it for btw no one is impressed with your computer you could have a mac or pc from 2 years in the future and no one would care
I have a PS4 for gaming and may buy this iMac for Euro 800 and I already have a Cheap Laptop for whatever program school wants that is not on Mac OS X since our IT system is sponsored by Microsoft
No offence Euro 800 you wont buy a laptop with a 27inch i7 2gb GTX860MX with 8gb ram If you fid one sen it to me and another reason is Final Cut Pro X and I have an iPad and an iPhne wich is better with a Mac.
Very cool, very professional. I wish I had you doing every item I've ever bought-shoes, clothes, even food, medication, books . . . it would be SO COOL! And you have just the right balance of brisk efficiency yet not the robotic drone of someone reading off a cue card, plus an obvious vast grasp of the subject matter. I will be receiving this box tomorrow and you made it all the more fantastic! Brave-o!
Depends on what you plan to do with the iMac. i7 has a larger processor cache(memory), higher clock speed, and hyper-threading. This "essentially" doubles the amount of processing cores, in most cases. If you need a lot of processor(video editing, photo processing, etc) then yes, very worth it.
I was also impressed with the speakers. I consider myself an audiophile and couldn't believe how good these sounded compared to any other built in speaker I've heard on any TV, laptop, or computer. I still plugged in my speaker setup I already have, but I would have no problems using the built in speakers if I didn't have speakers already. P.S. I'm not an apple fanboy. This is my first Mac and I'm still coming to terms with it, but I can't deny the quality of it.
It's a vulgar question. Some people are a little more able to buy stuff for one reason or another. We benefit as Mike not only loves technology but takes the time to share his passion with us. The interesting thing is that such passion and well presented video's may have become a self sustaining project due to the number of hits or even product mention and links such as the Ram. Either way, I very much enjoy Mike's reviews because he is very to the point and focuses on substance over style.
alot people say that iMac is not for gaming.. but i have proof that This iMac definitely perfect for gamers play games. i have try it at home, i install Call Of Duty and Cities Skylines... It is actually amazing!! run smoothly and performance r incredible! i just compared to MSI stealh Pro.. and what i choose is iMac. I spend tons of money on this and it is worth it!... I LOVE APPLE!
I never thought I would say this, but the IMac is an amazing machinery. I always said that I would never buy an iMac just a MacBook Pro , but the screen is amazing. The 21.5 or 27i inch makes everything look amazing. Very ideal if you have a hard time seeing in smaller screens. I do wish it has the optical drive though.
Thanks a lot man. I'm getting a new 27" 3TB Fusion Drive iMac today (in the next 12 hours, sometime) to replace my Late-2009 27" iMac. Your video was helpful, and I look forward to more of them. Thanks again.
I thought it was going to be difficult to find a video demonstrating the exact configuration of the 27" iMac that I just ordered, but this is it exactly! Even with the 32GB 3rd party RAM. Makes me more excited for my own to arrive. Thanks for the extremely helpful video.
My cousin works at foxconn here in Brazil, he told me that Apple may be working on with DDR4 memory upgrad According to the official document, new memories will use a technology similar to what is found in memories video card. This method allows DDR4 DRAM memory consume only half the energy used by DDR3 when reading or writing data.
If you're always going to wait for "the next update" you will wait forever. It's not like an updated imac will make this iteration useless. The changes will be subtle but I can't imagine they will be big enough to warrant waiting that long.
I just happened to come across your vids a couple days ago. They are very well done.... very professional and nice voice ... like radio smooth. Keep up the good work.
I have to agree with Destiny Waits. PCs can render quite fast for much cheaper. If you prefer an Apple Mac though, the Mac Pro cannot be beat. It is very, very fast, but consider upgrading the GPU and the RAM in your home, as it is much cheaper and more powerful. I will warn you though, the Mac Pro has an insanely high price, even for the cheaper model.
Considering what you said, the 27 inch model would benefit you quite a bit with video work(it's display is goergous), and the easily accessible RAM slots will be useful should you ever need to add more RAM. The 27 inch model also has an option for the Nvidia GTX 680MX which is a top of the line laptop graphics chip, keep in mind though that laptop graphics are only a fraction of the performance of full desktop GPUs (you'd need to get a Mac Pro to support these cards). I hope this info helps.
fusion drive actually two SEPARATE ssd+hdd. apple's fusion technology is a driver in the os that dynamically scans your most frequent apps+os and moves them to the ssd (if everything fits into the ssd, it won't even use the hdd).
I've got the late 2013 model and here are my specs: •NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5 •3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz •16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X8GB •3TB Fusion Drive How am I looking?
I wouldn't bother waiting. The iMac screens are really really good already! Besides, with a retina display it would get pretty expensive for a computer that can't be upgraded easily, and probably will be replaced in 3-5 years.
I knew the speakers weren't as bad as rumoured. The old iMac got bad speaker scores in reviews on Engadget, but I personally always thought the speakers were pretty good.
well if my calculations are correct, a 22" monitor at 1920x1080 is about 100 PPI this 27" iMac at 2560x1440 is about 109 PPI, so around a 9 PPI difference, which really is not that noticeable, but yes it is a higher pixel density. Hopefully this answered your question. Stay frosty
The new model is worth it as long as you don't mind not being up upgrade anything in the computer. The old 21.5" had user upgradable RAM and is probably cheaper, but these new ones are faster
OS X will use as much RAM as you give it, it's very dependent on it (much like Windows is very HDD/SSD dependent). This is how it keeps things snappy even when you're doing a lot, because it uses the much faster RAM instead of your SSD/HDD to recache everything. It's always a good idea (if you can afford it of course) to get as much RAM as you can for your Mac. Like the other guy said, you can very easily use it all up with complex Photoshop files and things like video editing.
Like you, Ashley, I was very disappointed Apple decided to dump the optical drive. Ditto with moving the card reader to the back and ditching the mic input. That said, I love my new 27" iMac. The Fusion Drive is amazing, as is the display. As for playing and burning discs, Apple threw in their Super Drive (n/c). It does take up more desk space, but I've adapted. The other add-on, besides the two 2T Time Machine external HDs, are a pair of UCube speakers. The built-ins are disappointing, IMO.
Very nice unboxing video. I'm considering to buy this type of iMac however I'm doubting it's still a good idea to buy one right now. Do you have any idea when the new iMac will be announced and if it will be worth the waiting? Thanks in advance.
I bought Imac 14 years ago, at that time hardly any one used to buy them, problem with mac is that few messengers are in compatible with them or used to. If you are chatting with a person using pc there were features that weren't available for Imac. Also sending files sometimes you cant open them bec it doesn't support the software you are using. Not sure now, but few years back this used to be a common problem with Mac's
wrong. Retina screens are IPS. Regular Macbook screens are TN with a greatly reduced color gamut and viewing angle. I applaud Apple for making IPS more of a standard benchmark for higher end notebooks/devices
You should be using dedicated speakers with a desktop really. They need physical volume (as in space lol) to produce good sound which is why the ones in laptops and stuff always suck. They're good for what they are, but you should really get some proper ones or some decent headphones for the best experience.
21.5 inch probably. 27 is just too wide (if you have bad eyesight). But if you stream movies, 27 is great. But for reading, I would suggest the 21.5 inch. You should go to store and test it out.
I'm using FCP, CS6 PPro and After Effects and now Davinci Resolve and the GTX680MX actually made my decision for me since it was nVidia and not AMD. I'm looking forward to getting this baby! Jsut don't know when it's coming. ha.
upgrading the ram yourself on the new 21 inch voids the warranty as you have to take off the screen and remove a bunch of stuff to get to it. i have actually done it before myself as an apple store employee who works at the genius bar and in the back, it was one of the hardest things to do.
I have a SUPER old computer running windows XP with a intel... Pentium processor, I think it's called with I think less than half a gigabyte of RAM. I need to upgrade to this, now! Anyway, that part where you opened all of the applications at the same time was so cool! Try doing that with the old box computer I have!
Crazy to see how well these 2012 machines still perform in 2019. My 2012 Mac mini and MacBook Pro 15" still run the latest MacOS with ease!
um... actually these macs was released by michigan apple on December 23-24, 2011
I still have this iMac in 2021 and it runs really slow. We have one of the more expensive ones but its slow so we have tp get a new one soon
@@jasonm1388 what?
I have this iMac and now it just sits on my desk shutdown because I got a 2021 macbook pro
I have one and it's so fast on mac os sierra
I like your videos because you're not exiting and you keep calm.
Macs are awesome and definitely worth whatever you spend on them
Bullshit.
thats your opinion keep it to your fucking self
Why? You commented your opinion so why shouldn't I get to? That's what the comment section is for. Don't get butt hurt just because someone doesn't like what you like.
i don't care if you don't like Macs, but don't come at me wrong. you could've made your opinion without making it a reply to me.
theres always someone who hates macs
What a thorough review! Unboxing, exterior features, speaker sound, spec features, ram replacement demo, gaming demo, benchmarks, fusion drive demo. Edited well. All reviews should b like this.
I want an Imac !! :D
Me too! But its costs so much!! :-(
I know ! that's the problem by me to :-(
Would love an imac or a macbook pro but sadly they COST SO MUCH!!!
True bro :(
if i have a job i can buy one
One of the best unboxings on UA-cam, very comprehensive.

Apple rocks buy a iMac it's worth it
Haha lol. I could build a pc with better specs for cheaper.
Riley Kirk I used a Windows PC the other day at the University I attend and I wanted to blow my brains out.
Michael Trujillo univeristys use xp or shitty version on 7
In my school we have 25 5k iMacs
ewan quigley no u don't. Don't lie
This is one of the best reviews I have ever seen.
if you own a mac.., u r about to impress people..
if you own a better pc.., u r about about to impress the gamers!
choice is yours!
+Ajay Nadar If you own either you're not about to impress anyone to be honest.
I OWN BOTH :)
Choosing a computer based on who it impresses more is something I only expect 12 year olds to do
I am proud to say you are my favourite youtuber for tech!
Ur voice sounds like Siri no joke lol
I have to say this is one of the best unboxing and review of 27' iMac.
You covered each and every bit thank you.
i have it
it's awesome
After 5 years, what are the defects that you found?
If you did of course
One of the best in depth and professional and high quality unboxing videos I have ever seen. Mine is already in Transit cant wait till Aug 1st.
isnt the resolution 2560 x 1440 (not 1600)
yes it is.
The aspect ratio would be 16:9 instead of 16:10, 16:10 is used more by photo editors.
Depends on what you plan to do with the iMac. i7 has a larger processor cache(memory), higher clock speed, and hyper-threading. This "essentially" doubles the amount of processing cores, in most cases.

Apple's packaging is super well designed, I know hardly anyone cares, but what other companies make unboxing stuff so much fun?
alot people say that iMac is not for gaming.. but i have proof that This iMac definitely perfect for gamers play games. i have try it at home, i install Call Of Duty and Cities Skylines... It is actually amazing!! run smoothly and performance r incredible!

Thank you DetroitBORG! This awesome review is the reason why I have my iMac and I'm still loving it.
Even by now, Mike seems to be the only UA-cam-Tech-Guy that knows how to open that box as it was intended XD
Thanks for showing us the fully loaded iMac!
Amazing review, I was looking for such a review for a while.. thank you!
Great Apple iMac unboxing. I just got my first iMac and I'm really happy with it.
I like how you wear hats while doing these videos :)
That iMac is just beautiful.
It depends on what you want to do with it. A PC running unix or linux can be very powerful doing the tasks you need it to.
Stunning combination of both performance and design.
The engineering is amazing. Great video and review!

My new iMac 27" arrived today, im stuck at work and cant wait to get home and use it !! a once windows man, now converted to mac..
These really are the best unboxings, everything else is amateur hour.
Mike, another great unboxing and tutorial. No one does it like you do!
I just happened to come across your vids a couple days ago. They are very well done.... very professional and nice voice ... like radio smooth. Keep up the good work.
Love the beautifull design, it's clean, simple and very solid
That is seriously the nicest comment i've seen on youtube in a reply in a while.....
Dang, this is PERFECT for what I need! Thanks for the great explanation of the product!
Get this as your main computer with a 27" thunder bolt display as your second monitor and you would have one awesome looking entertainment center.
I have to agree with Destiny Waits. PCs can render quite fast for much cheaper. If you prefer an Apple Mac though, the Mac Pro cannot be beat. taking this appart is actually much easier than previous iMacs

I am getting one of these in January. Can't wait!!!
Thanks for he quick answer. I agree with the SSD, it does change your computing life. I love my 13 inch MacBook Pro.
fusion drive actually two SEPARATE ssd+hdd. apple's fusion technology is a driver in the os that dynamically scans your most frequent apps+os and moves them to the ssd (if everything fits into the ssd, it won't even use the hdd).
Awesome video. Nice sound quality and great lighting. No more one-handed videos guys! Please!
Do the Nook HD you're the best reviewer ever
I've got the late 2013 model and here are my specs:
•NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
•3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
•16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X8GB
•3TB Fusion Drive
How am I looking?
I wouldn't bother waiting. The iMac screens are really really good already! Besides, with a retina display it would get pretty expensive for a computer that can't be upgraded easily, and probably will be replaced in 3-5 years.
I love the new RAM system.
Fantastic review. Interesting to see the major change from the previous iMac was the fusion drive.
Apple give a lot of atention on details including on the box! Apples's boxes are extremely better than other brands' ones!
Best review I've seen in a while
I really Love your videos. All reviews, unboxing, demos, All Wonderful!!!!
good point Scott, I hadn't thought of it that way.
you have to buy a separate drive for that for like $79, though it shouldn't be a major problem since most things don't use discs anymore.
I knew the speakers weren't as bad as rumoured. The old iMac got bad speaker scores in reviews on Engadget, but I personally always thought the speakers were pretty good.
Got the new late 2014 iMac 27" 5K Retina Display and loving' it! Next thing to do, is max the RAM out!
well if my calculations are correct, a 22" monitor at 1920x1080 is about 100 PPI this 27" iMac at 2560x1440 is about 109 PPI, so around a 9 PPI difference, which really is not that noticeable, but yes it is a higher pixel density. Hopefully this answered your question. Stay frosty
Nice job Mike! Enjoy your new toy.
It says they opted out of the Disc drive with this model. You're going to have to order/buy your own pal.
The new model is worth it as long as you don't mind not being up upgrade anything in the computer. The old 21.5" had user upgradable RAM and is probably cheaper, but these new ones are faster
The fusion drive is like a more badass version of a hybrid drive.
OS X will use as much RAM as you give it, it's very dependent on it (much like Windows is very HDD/SSD dependent). This is how it keeps things snappy even when you're doing a lot, because it uses the much faster RAM instead of your SSD/HDD to recache everything. Like the other guy said, you can very easily use it all up with complex Photoshop files and things like video editing.
Of course it can be used for gaming ! You can create a Windows-Partition on the IMac and install all your Windows-Games there.
Awesome review and great video and audio. Well done!
what a beauty, im speechless...
just bought one with exactly the same specs. thanks for the vid, SD slot is a nice add and benching of fusion drive was helpful.
Wow... That is some machinery. Apple sure knows how to do magic.
I really want to have one of those iMac, will be perfect for designing.
Thank you for your objectivity in the video. I appreciate your opinion, but more-so do i appreciate laying down the facts. Subscribing!
Just bought one of these, it'll be delivered in a week and I'm going to install my own RAM aswell. :D
Another well done boxing and mini review.
Thank you for the info about the new iMac for my bad eyesight.
what a beast of a machine! Great Video. Wish I had that computer
Which do you think is the better buy, the 21 or 27 inch? Great videos too!!
Very nice unboxing video. I'm considering to buy this type of iMac however I'm doubting it's still a good idea to buy one right now. Do you have any idea when the new iMac will be announced and if it will be worth the waiting? Thanks in advance.
My favorite part is fusion drive & the sleek design
I bought Imac 14 years ago, at that time hardly any one used to buy them, problem with mac is that few messengers are in compatible with them or used to. If you are chatting with a person using pc there were features that weren't available for Imac. Also sending files sometimes you cant open them bec it doesn't support the software you are using. Macs are cool for video editing not like windows but windows is pretty cool as well
wrong. Retina screens are IPS. Regular Macbook screens are TN with a greatly reduced color gamut and viewing angle. I applaud Apple for making IPS more of a standard benchmark for higher end notebooks/devices
is cooling system good? good for business and game? u r vry good at reviewing stuff!.
Professionals. In 2004, apple made a 30" cinema display and at its release, it could only run on a Powermac G5 (The PowerPC version of the Mac Pro)
You should be using dedicated speakers with a desktop really. They need physical volume (as in space lol) to produce good sound which is why the ones in laptops and stuff always suck. They're good for what they are, but you should really get some proper ones or some decent headphones for the best experience.
Again a great video Mike. Good work!
Jsut don't know when it's coming. ha.

Mike, about $3,000 total with Apple Care? Very nice computer with great specs! Thumbs way up.
