He is an absolute legend. I recognized him immediately by sound and video in this clip. Love his work with Waits (esp Franks Wild Years), which introduced me to his other work . Another undersung genius and extremely inventive man. I'm sure it was partially genetic (:
Remember watching this when it was broadcast live (Friday early evening). Blew my 17 year old mind then and blows my 55 year old mind now. Thank you for everything inbetween, Tom.
remember this clearly, glued to this whirlwind of vagabond and nicotine on the TV. The end titles started during In the Neighborhood and cut off mid song. The next week Jools said they had unprecedented letters of complaint and they showed the complete song as well as Walking Spanish, which that moment and for ever since is still my favourite song of Tom's. Changed my life those 2 Fridays.
Heart attack & Vine still one of my favorite albums. The chef that got me into cooking introduced me to you. You even were in his restaurant once, along the Delaware River in NJ.
I live in Perth , Western Australia, i;ve been in love with Tom from the age of 12. Same as I was for punk..I found my people and my only regret is that I will probably never get to see him live before die. AMAZINB MAN. x
A life-changing concert for me from this tour on 11/23/85 in Beverly Hills. It rearranged the furniture in my head about what a concert could or should be.
I first heard your music from your Austin City Limits and have to say that your Blue Valentines touched my soul. One of the few albums that I love the entire album. You are a National Treasure. I haven't led an All American life and some of your lyrics resonate with me because of that life. How do you create such spot-on lyrics describing these experiences? You've had to at least have one foot on the wrong side of the tracks. If you do read these comments, know that I truly appreciate your creativity and artistic skills. Thanks.
Could 16 shells possibly have been any more jagged? Absolutely brilliant, no idea how the musicians kept any kind of time, but they held that broken train together with string, somehow.
Hello Tom. I hear your voice...and cascades of memories...and some of my BEST memories hit me. Right "in the feels". I'm up in CT, are you coming up this way? PLEASE don't play @ the casinos 🙄 Btw, we'd love to have you. There's a whole family of crazed TW fans here. You'd be properly worshipped, wined dined and clear yo mind! We got a pool, and a pond 😊
Even Jesus wanted a little more time, when he was walking Spanish down the hall. Tom at his hight of his brilliance and down the backstreets of Newcastle too.
OMG. That’s my dear little bro Ralph Carney on sax. This is a true gift seeing this. Thanks to Patrick White for posting this !
Love to all!
I miss Ralph... What a wonderful guy.

The chaos during cemetary polka is beautiful
Tom is untouchable. No other artists is more one of a kind and original than he. The supreme master at work.
Genius, just pure genius. Always has been always will be.
This was truely extreme in the 80s
I'd buy that for a dollar. Man that's some fine music. Tom is what we all strive to be.
ribot an absolute master as well.
Abs. O’lute
Yes!!! So happy to see this. Tom is one of a kind and will forever be. His music touches the soul beyond words
Gotta love, the one and only Tom Waits. The man is brilliant
I could leave this on repeat for about 30 years or so. Just glorious 😎

a genius only a very few of my friends can comprehend. Even in 2024
Super glad to see that this footage has finally been compiled and released by the official account.

I didn't ever know he did this. What a great surprise to have all these years later. Great great band.,
Hi, Tom! Thank You. 🇦🇷!
This is fantastic, incredible performer
Walking Spanish has to be my all-time favorite of Tom Waits songs. It is a real treat to get to see it performed on stage.
I want to get in a time machine so I can go to this show. And I want to be a young punk rock girl.
There is no spoon, punk rock girl.
GodDAMN, that start to Walking Spanish just gave me goosebumps!
Tom the master.
If only there was a "Nighthawks" Album performance footage like this one....
I saw that tour. 1976 in NJ.
Really love Tom's songs and live performances.
Mabuhay! From your Filipino fan!

I am so glad I am a subscriber. Thanks for the upload.
Truly engaging and artistic scenarios! Thanks! 🙌
Great 😊
That's "Franks Wild Years" at the beginning. What a guy 😎
.....apologies, the track is "Franks Theme" from the album "Franks Wild Years".
so nice
His voice, and its inflections,
immediately remind me of the great Willem Dafoe.
❤ you, T.W.❣️
This man is the last bastion of old-school cool. Every cigarette butt he's smoked is a little more awesome from the experience.
Tom -best ! Best !!!! Thank you Tom ! Слава Україні !
Fantastic.
Wow.
Peace & Love! WooF!!🐶🐶

Ayyyyy, this is wonderful! Been watching the low quality one forever on here.
спасибо огромное!
Ooh an updated version😊❤
"All Halloween orange and chimney red". Man can spin a yarn.
"Bit of ah round of ah-plause, then!" ill-timed after dramatic dark comedy delivery ahaha.
:) :) :)
Incidentally, I like to think Lynch is a Waits fan too.
Fantastic. Presumably filmed in Newcastle? This would have blown my 14 yr old mind at the time, still does now.
I played “hoist that rag” on the juke box at a sports bar the other day and everyone was hating on it. 😢
My favourite song of all time, I adore both versions. And yup it stings when barely anyone else I know gets it. Glad you and I do though, my friend!
Anyone know who’s on guitar? Is it Ribot? Edit, I’m pretty sure it is.
Yup. That sway!
;-)
Ось це справжня музика 🎸😶
I grew up on that voice.
Gefundenes fressen for those souls whome have the acquired taste.
Oh yes, Tom’s famous song about the year he spent sleeping in a train on the Piccadilly Line.
Pray for a Big Time upload or release.
trip
The show the Aux. Perc. guy has waited for his entire career.
tmwt TmwT 🎉 sound's making my lights flicker🕯️
I wonder if Tom and his band ever did a cover of "Powerhouse"?
😊.
Any listing of the band members for this fantastic performance?
Even Jesus wanted a little more time, when he was walking Spanish down the hall.
Tom at his hight of his brilliance and down the backstreets of Newcastle too.
Medicine maker the Dr never waits
Theatre on The Tube (london).
This dude was totally the inspiration for Heath Ledger’s Joker
How about that band?
Guitar: Marc Ribot, Sax: Ralph Carney, Bass: Greg Cohen. Who else?
Oh, that Tube. I thought he was going to be on an underground train.
Anybody know who this fine guitar player is?
Marc Ribot!
Ahh Tom Waits! But what for?
How ‘bout that band
55 seconds
Watching tom waits is like watching paint dry on a wall
Tom, do you have some kind of problem with women? Your lyrics suggest you see to hate them.
oh poor you ... buy a new set of ears and brains...
granted, times and morals change but not every 'I' in a song is by definition the author...
I think the problem lies with chihuahas... (intro)
Tom waits was a fuckmin bore..
Fantastic. Thank you.
Whoa.
