This album changed my life, why nobody filmed this tour with some real intent to capture Tom Waits changing peoples lives is beyond me. I love this don’t get me wrong, just not enough quality footage of such a man.
Because cameras were banned in the crowd at most, if not all of the Glitter and Doom gigs but we also noticed film cameras in the box seats. Hope one day those vids get leaked😂 or released.

This is outstanding. Pristine sound. Very REM style guerilla filmmaking which works for Tom's music. This should be put up again and again until it's recognized as official. For an artist who probably won't do a full tour ever again, this is an important document. Get Behind The Mule - utterly incredible!
People like Tom are rarities, adventuring to the edge of artistry until they up sticks and leave this earth. So keep making videos like this. Art is under constant threat, so yeah. Keep the fires burning!!

I recognized this extraordinary artist in the mid 80s, and had the glad to see him perform 1999 in Berlin at the Mule Variations Tour. Tom Waits shows people possibilies in music non mainstream, opening their eyes, ears and hearts to a world with more toleration, acceptation and understanding of different ways of living. Hope this magic man will be in best health as long as possible
Thank you for this!! I still can't for the life of me understand why they never put out an official concert video, as they were filming during many of the concerts. Thank you for all the work you put into this video, it certainly brings back memories!
All I can say is thankyou so much for putting this together. Incredible how smoothly it runs, a few different lights are the only clue it isn’t an entire concert filmed in one go. I was very lucky to see Tom the only time he came to Perth and it would never happen again…so thankyou from the bottom of my heart.
I’ve listened to the NPR Atlanta recording more times than I could possibly count. I even have an old iPod that I continue to keep on some kind of cruel life support because it contains the original podcast release of the recording. Having this slightly bizarre collage of video and audio is such a unique and compelling document.
I believe I am one of the biggest Tom Waits-fan in Finland. Never saw him alive, never even seen full "Big Time"-film! But this was really great experience to me, so much thanx to put this together and post it here!
I saw him there, too--an unforgettable experience. Unlike in this compilation, he played, or rather tried valiantly to croak his way through, "Johnsburg, Illinois." It was a sweet and beautiful moment.

Thanks very much for putting this together and posting it! I’ve been a long-time fan of Tom and have been lucky enough to catch him live a number of times over the years, including this tour (having to cross the Channel to the Grand Rex in Paris to catch him on this occasion, as he only played Scotland in the UK). Brilliant show, as ever from Tom, and nice to have this footage (along with the Glitter and Doom album) as a reminder of what a showman, performer, artist and singer he is. Again, many thanks! Nick
