You mentioned the stunt double thing but something you may not know. Keanu learned all of the shooting techniques as well. There are videos of him training and he is a phenomenal tactical shooter now.
Don't do a poll for part 2 and 3, just do them, no one will complain. And as many others have mentioned John Wick gunplay is as close to real life techniques as you can get because Keanu put himself through 100s of hours learning how to do practical tactical shooting. There are vids out there of some of his training runs that would probably be react worthy for your original channel.
The thing I really like about these movies is they assume the audience is smart. They don't feel the need to explicitly explain every detail of the world. They expect the audience to be able to keep up, to read between the lines, and to put the pieces together to understand the whole picture.
YES! This 100%. The movie is just vague enough to keep you interested in finding out more of the world they set you in, but they don't hand it to you on a silver platter. There's no long exposition scenes, no huge flashbacks or origin stories. They present a world and expect you to understand it with providing the barest of crumbs, and with the promise of giving you more in the subsequent films. Its realistic in that way. Characters in a story KNOW their own story and the world they live in, they don't need it explained to them. They are a product of this fictional world and thus they don't need certain things explained to them for the audience's benefit.
I watched John Wick twice during a 17 hour flight out of Perth, Aus, in 2015. Loved it. Denzel Washington plays an equally good character in The Equalizer and Man On Fire, as does Bob Odenkirk in Nobody. There’s something compelling in bad guys picking on the wrong person.
The incredibly novel thing about "John Wick" as a movie is how they set him up. To make someone a threat, the heroes of a movie usually talk big about the bad guy's accomplishments in order to get the viewer on their same page, while in this movie it's the bad guy's talking big of who John is, thusly putting the viewer less in the fear of who he is and more in the "Oh god they are fucked" mentality.
The reason John Wick let the woman go that tried to kill him in his bed at the Continental it’s because no business can be conducted on Continental grounds without dire consequences. He lets certain people live that aren’t directly a threat he has a code of professional respect he lives by as you will find out as his story progresses in John wick two and three.
@@dr.burtgummerfan439 interesting observation, she did give him information but I think he knew Winston would unequivocally carry out the house rules against Perkins egregious offense.

He wouldn't kill Perkins on Continental grounds because when he won the grappling she was no longer a threat In That Moment. She was of course still an Ongoing Threat, but Not In That Moment. To kill her on Continental Grounds once he subdued her was probably a violation of what his own honor perceived as The Spirit of The Laws of Continental Grounds. Winston would probably accepted the killing, but one John answers to in regards of His Honor is Himself. ...maybe that and the rest of the story...
A little fun fact: the doorman tells John how many opponents are in the club by telling him his weight loss 😂 Great reaction from you. It's awesome when people appreciate a great movie for what it is
Some of the subtext that you may have missed: -When he asks for a dinner reservation for 12 that's in-world underground/assassin code for cleanup of 12 bodies. -When he asks Francis about how much weight he's lost, Francis tells him 60 pounds, which means that 60 henchmen are inside the building.
@@mrnice81 Closer to 20 kilograms. 2.2 lbs per kilo. So it was twenty guards in the building. And because he told John that's why he let him go. That, and professional respect.
The main story I kept hearing about this movie, in a nutshell, is that the same stuntmen who worked on the top tier action movies saw each other over & over again. They kept talking & decided to make their own movie, the way they wanted, with no extraneous oversight. A stuntman's movie, the way a stuntman would make it. So the crew got together again. Et voila.
The first time I watched this was a rainy Sunday Night, I was lying in bed browsing movies and just randomly selected this one, had no idea who was in it, the genre, if it was new or old...nothing. It was probably one of the best realisations/experiences I've had watching a movie

The Continental hotels have an ABSOLUTE rule about killing on hotel grounds. Its not allowed, period. Breaking that rule can be cause for execution. The best way to describe John Wick's job title is fixer or cleaner, he was a hitman but more than just killing people, handling tough jobs, taking down whole organizations, when he mentions that John buried the bones that are the foundation of their criminal empire I took that as "he destroyed an entire crime syndicate for me, allowing us to build our own in its' place"
The world building... show dont tell but they dont really show. Its give you just enough that you know enough for you build it yourself in your mind which makes it even cooler.
one thing a lot of people miss, is that after Jimmy looks into John's house, he removes his hat to cover his bodycam before asking him, "you uh, working again?"

If you like that much John Wick, im sure you will love also the Bourne trilogy with Mat Damon, if you havent - you missed out a lot, in other words Bourne trilogy made those kind of scenes and shooting popular and renewed the way that modern action movies will be made from then on. Its a cinema benchmark trilogy.
My significant other owns a 76 mustang, beautiful machine, she loves the thing more than I do. Always appreciate someone who can tell the year on sight.
One reason why the shooting is so realistic is because Reeves actually did several thousand hours of training at a place called Taran Tactical, where he did live fire training with the weapons. They filmed some of it for the behind the scenes and he is actually legit with weapons. Also, he did most of the stunts, except for the club fall and the car crashes, as the insurance company made it very clear to the producers that they would not be hitting an A-List actor with an SUV or throwing him off a ledge.
Keanu is actually that good in real life. Check out the video of Keanu practiced 4000 hours for John Wick. He does a 3 weapon tactical live fire course amazingly.
Funny how we are at the point that seeing a man just get to the movie and keep it real is just so unique, it makes you wanna watch more. Just the right way to do it, hope you stay like this, I love it
I think John only really let Perkins go because he didn't want to risk breaking Continental rules, even though it seemed like he had been offered amnesty in that particular situation.
I'm sure this is the reason. But I don't think he'd be offered amnesty. The continental exists as is because of its strict rules policy. If you introduce a loop hole such as self defense, you'd have trained killers instigating other trained killers to provoke situations where, "self defense" would be a valid reason to kill on Continental Grounds. Or you'd kill some one and be able to claim self defense if there's no witnesses
@@warnertom3393 but remember, the concierge asked him "A dinner reservation, perhaps?" It's possible that option was only available while inside John's room, and ended once they were both outside it.
No business is to be conducted on Continental grounds. Perkins was conducting business, John wouldn't have been conducting business if he killed her in self-defense. He offered to spare her life for information, which she gave him. Also, John is aware of the rules, and he asked Perkins if she really wanted to "die here", so he knew it wouldn't be a violation. And in addition to Charon offering John a "dinner reservation", the guy in the hallway seemed mildly surprised that John was willing to "catch and release".
One of my favorite things about this movie is that normally, John Wick would be an antagonist, or a very broken protagonist, but the scenes at the beginning humanize him, make us feel for him, and *sorta* justify his actions.
The thing about this movie and why so so many people slept on it at first was the minimalist promos and movie posters. I remember when I first saw one, I was coming out of a movie and all I saw was Keanu Reeves standing there in a black suit and the title, "John Wick". That was it, that was the whole poster eventually I saw a different one but it was just as minimalist and had the line "Don't set him off" with his tie as an explosive fuse. They gave NOTHING away, I don't recall one not ONE reaction to a John Wick trailer then one day out of just boredom I picked it up from a Redbox and was just as blown away as you were.
Just found your channel and it's awesome you're not afraid to talk about guns. Here's some info you will find interesting: -The AR15 Wick used at the Church is a Coharie Arms CA-415, an American made clone of the HK 416. -The compensater on Wicks pistol also acts as a small suppressor "in universe". That's why Wicks pistol sounds kinda "Hollywood" suppressed.
John Wick is my favorite individual movie. Back when I lived with my parents they rented it and were very insistent that I watch it after they finished it. Went in with no expectations and spent the whole runtime enraptured.
5:30 - Keanu spent months in training on stunt driving, martial arts, CQB, firearms, etc. He was trained on shooting by Tarant Tactical and there are videos of him doing multigun drills with insane accuracy and time.
No poll necessary for the rest of the series. Also if you wanna keep on the action hype train after JW3, I'd suggest The Equalizer 1&2 with Denzel Washington and The Raid 1&2. These are the best action movies you'll ever watch.
Keanu does ALL of his stunts, and learns all the skills required. He is now a legitimately trained driver, marksman, martial artist, and acrobat. And still the nicest and most humble person alive, we don’t deserve him.
The John wick movies are so freaking good! I can watch this movie over and over again- and have! Keanu does many of his own stunts and has gone through a lot of vigorous real professional training for all his movies. He wants to do it right each and every time.
Not gonna lie, Two and Three are equally as impressive. A solid trio of films that have the same core but also each one deviates enough to keep it fresh. All are highly recommended.
Great reaction! Each John Wick movie gets better and better and John Wick 4 is coming in march. Keanu does 90% of his own stunts. The director for these movies was Keanu Reeves stunt double in the matrix triology. There are several videos on youtube showing Keanua's weapon training, one is called, Keanu Reeves Trained 4000 Hours For JOHN WICK.
The first time you see this is, indeed, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. However, the good news is that there are other experiences that this movie opens up for you. Most importantly would be the John Wick Pitch Meeting and the John Wick Honest Trailer. But other reactions to this movie can let you vicariously relive a small part of that experience. And many of them are just as fulfilling as your reaction was. Thank you for sharing it with us.
This is the first time I’ve ever seen you at the excitement level of a child watching something (in the best possible way). Awesome reaction! Can’t wait for the next parts!
During production, Keanu was trained by tactical special forces. They said he practiced in so much detail that his use of guns and specifically reloading during combat were so accurate that it was hard to tell what was real and what was fake.
To give you area context. John lives in the Hamptons (Long Island), Orellio is in Queens, the Russians are in Brooklyn as is the end of the Movie, Continental is Manhattan. First 30 min of this movie are exposition of how much it took to take this peaceful man back to Baba Yaga Killer mode. As to where you can get friends like that. Call Bert Kriecher. You know, when he was 22? He joined the Russian Mob. Here is how it happened.........
At the time of writing this video is 8 months old, but I had to comment and say it was an absolute pleasure to watch. Seeing you quickly get on board for all of what makes John Wick brilliant. As I said; an absolute pleasure to watch. Thank you Now onto John Wick 2.
A great reaction! And bonus: education on small arms and tactical use. Thank you! The good news is you have 2 more John Wick experiences ahead for you, plus we are all anticipating one that is being made right now. I'm looking forward to that movie and to you catching up!
This has to be, HANDS DOWN, the best reaction to this movie I’ve ever seen. Spectacular!!!!!!!! Getting hit with a vest on can still super easily break ribs, bruise heart, cause punctured lungs…it all sucks. A vest does help a great deal when goi g hands on with someone. It absorbs a lot from impacts.

Completely love the fact that he jumps straight into it no long intro love it
My significant other owns a 76 mustang, beautiful machine, she loves the thing more than I do.
Always appreciate someone who can tell the year on sight.
Everyone had the same reaction. Keanu put in the time to train both with firearms and hand to hand combat.
He couldn't kill her because it's on Continental property
No, he let her go because she gave him information, same as Francis the bouncer.
this is one of my favorite movies ever. I can watch it a hundred times and love it every time
Keanu is actually that good in real life.
@@warnertom3393 but remember, the concierge asked him "A dinner reservation, perhaps?"
It's possible that option was only available while inside John's room, and ended once they were both outside it.
One of the best things about this movie is how simple its plot is. An arrogant punk messed with the wrong guy... That is really all you need.
Just found your channel and it's awesome you're not afraid to talk about guns. Here's some info you will find interesting:
-The AR15 Wick used at the Church is a Coharie Arms CA-415, an American made clone of the HK 416.
Subscribing for your voice alone, the commentary was just the cherry on top.
I've never seen our man so giddy. I love it, looking forward to the rest of the series with you.
Keanu does ALL of his stunts, and learns all the skills required. He is now a legitimately trained driver, marksman, martial artist, and acrobat. And still the nicest and most humble person alive, we don’t deserve him.
Keanu has said in interviews he does his own action, there's some stuff he's just not allowed to do.
This is my favorite action movie of all time. It's so stylish with minimalist plot. No bullshit filler-ish scenes just awesomeness.
This is the only wick review I've seen that knows about the film lenses, the sound design, the weapons & the cars.
The John wick movies are so freaking good! I can watch this movie over and over again- and have! Keanu does many of his own stunts and has gone through a lot of vigorous real professional training for all his movies. He wants to do it right each and every time.
John Wick, Jason Bourne, The Equalizer......all good stuff!!
This movie (& series) really does set a new standard for action movies!
Not gonna lie, Two and Three are equally as impressive. A solid trio of films that have the same core but also each one deviates enough to keep it fresh. All are highly recommended.
I love people who is really Watched and digest the Movies
"You, uh, workin' again?" "Nah, just sorting some stuff out."
"Guns, cars, action." Wait until you get to the part where he's driving and using a gun.
During production, Keanu was trained by tactical special forces. They said he practiced in so much detail that his use of guns and specifically reloading during combat were so accurate that it was hard to tell what was real and what was fake.
the Bouncer statement "lost 20 kilograms" was a code for "20 bad guys inside.", which checks out throughout the club fight scene
Series without a weak movie. Enjoy this masterpiece of cinema.
Thank you
Now onto John Wick 2.
20:45
The rifle is a Coharie Arms CA-415, an American copy of the HK416, with an EOTech 553.
Yes! Someone else who appreciates American heavy metal muscle cars. My dream car has been either a 69 Boss Mustang or a 70 Mach 1 for decades.
The chose that color pallet because that's the theme they were going for: a retro cyberpunk world.
Ive never witnessed you have a total ASMR over a film. Glad it touched the depts of your soul.
I love how the movie doesn’t beat us over the head with over-exposition. When the doorman tells him he lost around 60 pounds, he’s telling him how many guards there are inside.
