    Fun Fact:
When John goes to the Club to kill the kid and starts with the bodyguard outside, He says, "You've lost weight" and Francis Replied "Over 60 pounds". This was actually a test AND a code between the two. John was testing him to see if he would help him (which is why he lets him go and tells him to take the night off) and Francis replies Over 60 pounds (or 27 kilograms), a code for nearly 27 security guys/henchman protecting the boy. VERY cool way to again show us how much of a badass and how respected John Wick is.

How can someone be this fu**ed over by the world, and still be one of the nicest people on the planet?
It's like on this one fanfiction page, with the characters from MHA watching Death Battle, and they're watching Batman vs Spider-Man:
Setsuna: (listing all of Peter's misfortunes) "He lost his parents in a plane-crash, he was bullied relentlessly by some douche, he got bit by a radioactive spider, got cheated out of money and got his own uncle unintentionally killed, he has to face an absurd amount of dangerous Villains, he's treated as a criminal by the people he saves, his own, and other Heroes; his girlfriend was killed by his best friend's pyscho dad and later almost killed him and nearly died himself, and traded his marriage to his fiance to save his Aunt's life and lost his future daughter.

The colors in the movie, from the lighting to the outfits also told a story. Villains in red light, John in Blue or green light, the "good" guys in gold lighting. The Gold coins (which don't have a value necessarily,) the value is in what the coin represents to the person receiving it. One coin could be used to buy a drink, your silence or a car. It depends.

The takeaway for Keanu Reeves is he takes his part very seriously in the movie and does research and practices his part so he can do his part in a legitimate way. Even if Keanu Reeves wanted to do every stunt scene. Expensive Hollywood actors cannot do all their stunt scenes because their agents and insurance agents will not allow it under the contract

It's a theme that carries on, throughout the trilogy so far. John's threat level is visualized solely through the light's color and the color of the highlighted subtitles.
Blue - calmness and collectedness; John's in control of the situation, everyone else is very much screwed.
Red - tension and danger; John's in trouble/lost control of the moment, enemies have the upper hand for now.
Purple/Teal - uncertainty; John has an issue (injury, low ammo, etc.), but situation can be managed.

I'm with you on the bit about writing a terrifying protagonist. It's one of the few movies that does it. xD some people have actually written youtube movie essays about it. But the most brilliant bit, imo, is: they don't do a 20 min introduction about him where a narrator explains who he is. They just go into the movie, don't let him speak for a long time and just let everyone immediately know him. Then once that mafia boss goes: " oh...." - it's pretty much all set.
Btw it's also refreshing that he doesn't have to introduce himself fifteen times (like in other movies) since they all know him xD

32:59 John let's Viggo go because he needs Viggo to pull the open contract that's out on John. It's also a critically important & defining characteristic of John Wick that he's a man of his word, and so, because he gave his word that he'd let Viggo go in exchange for both Iosef's location and Viggo pulling the contract, John was true to his word and let Viggo go.
Also, note that Viggo later tells John that he appreciates John having been quick with Iosef's final moment rather than making Iosef suffer by drawing it out in the way John had surely intended originally. John granting Iosef a swift end instead of the more agonizing affair John had in mind at the start of the Wick revenge tour can be attributed to Viggo being a man of his word as well - a show of respect from John, even if an incredibly morbid one, for Viggo pulling the contract as promised.

To be fair, John did torture Theon by letting him live for so long. He killed off all his friends and guards. He had him in the hot tub, but deliberately killed the other guy in front of him. He had him with the sniper rifle, but killed his Call of Duty friend instead. He stalked him. You saw how paranoid Theon was by the end. Finally once Theon had nothing left, John ended it without letting him get his last words out.
