I have had a 3DS since the day it was released, and I just got a 2DS a couple months ago and I absolutely love the 2DS. It's just nicer to hold. I have bigger hands, so it is easier for me to hold the 2DS than the 3DS. The one issue I find with the 2DS is the Wi-Fi connectivity is worse than my 3DS. Even though it says they have similar Wi-Fi cards, I just don't think the 2DS picks up as well as the 3DS. I find myself dropping more Pokemon battles online than I do with my 3DS. Also, after only 5 months of having the 2DS, the A button has started to wear down. I have put about 600-700 hours on my 2DS since I got it between Pokemon Y, Zelda and Mario Golf, but the button wearing down that quickly still made me mad. Mainly because there's really nothing you can do about it without taking it apart and replacing the button completely. Overall though, I think the 2DS screen resolution and color density is much better than the 3DS. I noticed it much more when I went from Pokemon Y on my 3DS to my 2DS. The color are richer on my 2DS than 3DS. I think it's just the way the screen for the 3DS is because of that weird 3D factor of it. The 2DS is definitely worth it to me though, it's definitely been nice playing it and a lot of the accessories are VERY cheap. I've gotten 1 prop case for it and it was 10$, then a hard rubber case for 12$ at target. They also sell silicone cases for them that cover the entire 2DS and they are nice, but they wear down quickly. I had a black one for about 1 month and it was starting to stretch a lot, even without taking it on and off a lot (because that's usually how things like that break down quicker). If you're in the market for a new DS, I would suggest the 2DS because of it's nice design and feel.

SpankysReplays 3D is an option, just turn it off if you don't like it. Personally I never put 3D on it and it doesn't affect much at all. And even with the 2DS case, the 2DS still takes up a lot of your bag space. Sleep mode isn't really proper either. Overall the clamshell design is much better suited, but I guess people who have a 2DS out of money convenience have adapted to its inferiority.
I had the New Nintendo 3DS XL and traded it in for the 2DS and I like it a whole lot better. Feels classic like a GameBoy and the device feels so much better to hold.

I got the 2DS because I think it's overall more comfortable to hold than the other versions and it's a lot cheaper than the others so I saved some money on that part. The only problem I have is the portability but I'd never take it out anyway so I have the carrying case for when I'm travelling or out shopping for example.
One issue that wasn't brought up was comfort; The 2DS and 3DS XL are better for people with larger hands. A problem I had with older DSes in general was the small size, meaning the corners would jam into my palms! It's particularly bad when you're playing games that require extensive use of the stylus, forcing you to hold it up with one hand. Most of the weight of the system would be on that one part of your palm! You'll also notice that the 3DS XL has its corners more rounded off than the others, so even if you're some kind of titan, it'll still be pretty comfortable.
triplegamer3K Yeah man, I got a midnight purple 3ds at a pawn shop, for $89 and it came with the stylist, sd card and without any external or internal damage, It was practically new minus a few almost invisible smudges that I cant seem to get rid of on the front.
I used to think the 2ds was a bit shit, mate got the yellow see through version and man does it remind me of a gameboy! Also it's mega comfortable compared to the 3ds's. If you don't care about 3d or huge screens then get the 2ds

Thing I like about the 2ds is that it can't snap in half or become loose and flimsy like the others if the hinge is cracked. That happened to my ds lite a while back. Also it feels great. You don't have to push it up or down because of sunlight; but you can just turn the brightness up. I don't like the 3d effect, it hurts my eyes sometimes. That's it other than that get what you like :)
I have a 3ds xl and have used the other 2 devices and I think that the xl is the best. It is still portable, it has large screens, it's comfortable in your hands and it has a really good battery life compared to the original
I owned the Wii back in 2007, and got the DSi in 2008. These devices were life changing, and my family promised to always upgrade if I wanted something new and I could afford it. After the 3DS first came out, We traded in my DSi for it, after backing up the data. The backwards compatibility was AMAZING! My 3ds had served me well, and then the Wii U came out. We bought the Wii u. Backwards compatibility, also amazing. These consoles lasted a full 2 years before I got kinda bored of the Wii U, and my 3ds had broken. I was destroyed. So I went without a 3ds in 2013. In 2014, I got the 2DS. I loved it! It was so much fun, and it was the same experience. My sister had always wanted a 3DS, since she always played on mine. In 2015, I got the best upgrade, Ever. 2DS to the **new** 3DS XL. I backed up my data, transferred it to my new 3DS, and gave my 2DS to my sister, with a fresh copy of Mario Kart 7. In 2016, I gave my sister the new 3ds xl, and bought myself the galaxy style one. Today, my family has a Wii U, a nintendo switch, and we all have 3ds consoles. (my parents have 2ds consoles) If you want to buy a console and you’re debating between the 3DS and the Nintendo Switch, I’d pick the 3ds. It has everything you can ask for. My favorite games of all time are- •New super mario bros 2 •Super mario 3D land •Mario maker •Mario Kart 7 and Smash bros.

I got a regular 3DS recently, only adult use. The damn thing began to fail 3 months later. The R button gone completely, the stick started to get stuck and the L button fails occasionally. I'd buy a 3ds XL if I could ho back in time
Actually I think its a give and take situation. Yea it doesn't have the clamshell design, but if you have bigger pockets, use a backpack, or a bag, then its not as major of an issue anymore. The big thing if you ask me, is that out of the 3 systems, the 2DS offers the most room for the hands. The 3DS is for all intents and purposes, is the same size as the DS lite, which cramped the living hell out of my hands after extended periods of play. Which leaves the 2DS and 3DS XL. Screen size is amazing on the XL for sure but personally not worth the nearly $80 price difference for just a bigger screen since I feel the 3D function is a gimmick at best, plus once again 2DS has more hand room.

In the factor that I have played all 3 systems. 2DS is alot more superior in all 3. It keeps players alot more cautious of where you will keep it pocket or travel wise. As coll as pocket fitting as most DS systems are it falls to the fact of how damaging it will be in said pocket. I had a buddy completely ruin an original 3DS and 3DSXL cause they were in his pocket and they amount of knocking around anyone can do broke both screens while closed. I like how the hinges were brought up in this video as well. After a while hinges will get loser and loser and sometime crack with the wear and tear. In the past the DS Lite was no subjuct. I found myself replacing the Lite every 1 1/2 year's cause the hinge completely broke. The speaks also really become and issue with hinges breaking or even being knocked around in pockets. The aadvantages to the 3DS and XL are yes the stereo speakers and 3D Mode, ect. But most the time 3D mode is not activated since after a bit it cause a splitting headace there is a reason 3D is easier with glasses. Battery Life I noticed on the 3DSXL is alot weaker than both the smaller systems. Since the larger system is pushing to bring you more experience with the bigger screen it drains faster. 2DS has its flaws like the others yes. Open screens can cause damage but it's all about the fact players are being told that it's supposed to be put in a bag. Not pocket. Things the really stand out on my view on why the 2DS is superior. One. It's like holding a gameboy. I am a retro nerd I love the game boy. I play my Micro everyday. The 2DS brings a classic fell for a handheld. The system is quite durable. No need to get scared everything you drip it (not recommending dropping it all the time) but it can take a hit since it's open. Like the 3DS it has great battery life, the lack of 3D mode is actually a wonder for someone such as myself who can't look at a condensed 3D image for more than 5 minutes without feeling sick. Lack of Glossy colors unlock the other two systems is great. Fingerprint smudges are the worst on 3DS and XL. There are many more reasons why I like 2DS better but it's my own opinion and everyone may have their own. And One more note before ending this rant. It's really kid friendly.

Well I have both the 3DS and the 3DS XL. I noticed the 3D looks TREMENDOUSLY better on my original 3DS. With my XL I get the "double picture effect" no matter how low the depth slider is. I can turn it up all the way on my 3DS and that doesn't happen. Graphics are a bit better too. Plus it fits in my pocket. Don't see why I'd choose the XL over that. Just for a bigger screen? That only enhances the poor quality of the graphics (only in comparison. Alone its good enough)
I had considered that maybe I had a faulty 3DS XL but when comparing it to my brother's they looked the same. So I figured it was just how the XL looked. So I stick to the original. The XL is good without the 3D though.

This should really flip your lid. I sold my 3DS Original to my friend, then bought a 2DS. Why? 3D gave me a headache, and the 3DS Original was way too damn small to hold onto for someone with big hands like me. So what if I can't close it? What do you think we did with the game boy? I still have my GBA and no cover, and the screen is still practically brand new looking.

Actually, the 2DS comes in three color schemes in America. That is a North America exclusive special edition, it's completely white but has teal abxy,start,select,d-pad,thumb stick,and shoulder buttons. Go over to the UK, they have a UK exclusive special edition which is a crimson red, but with a white face instead of black.
Great Video! I have one question thought, what is the difference between the 2D and 3D mode on the 3DS. I mean do things literally look like they are sticking out of the screen at you in 3D mode or does it just look deeper/richer/more life like?
I always like Nintendo products, but they lost me once they made the Nintendo DS instead of a new version of the Game Boy. The hinges on the Nintendo DS are crap and will probably break or at least wear down within a year. I'm actually on my second Nintendo DS because the first one broke, and the second one is on its last legs. The buttons feel cheap and have to be pressed harder to work at all, especially the A button because it's used a lot. The L button doesn't work at all anymore. My Game Boy Advance SP still is working great after 10 years. I don't know whether the new portable systems will last as long because they haven't even been on the market that long.
I had the same problems, except the hinges. And that's because I take REALLY good care of my portables. Yet, the buttons (especially the bumpers) always die out. IMO, the 2ds feels more like a natural progression from the GBA than the DS ever did. It still has that feel of a Gameboy, yet the tech progress of the DS. *Plus, the 2DS is a hella lot cheaper than most DSs were when they came out.*
More than 10 years with my old 3ds and still works like the first day. Excelente built and confortable. My son has the 3ds xl and while it's screen is really cool, I still prefer the compact design of mine.
Really you can't go wrong with any choice, but do note that if you want a system that will last a long time, the o3dsxl and n2dsxl likely will not be for you. The former has a habit of cracking at the hinge over time (learned from experience) and the ladder is likely to die of ram failures. Overall, I think the best 3ds system including new models is the n3dsxl.
The 2DS is good, but if you want the full experience of a 3DS, the XL is the one you want. I'll recommend the 2DS if you don't want fingerprints and you want something more simple. I'll recommend the 3DS if you want the fold because it's more portable and easier to hide if you're a kid.
In the video you say the 2DS and 3DS have the same screens except that the 2DS ones aren't foldable. That's not so. The 2DS has a single screen that is split into two via the plastic casing: if you open that thing up, there's just one huge screen in there.
I have to say, I bought the 3ds xl, as I never got the 3ds, and I'm never going back. I love the huge screens and the rounded edges, it is much more comfortable to hold compared to the dsi I previously owned. Do it, it's worth the money, especially if you can buy it in a bundle like I did.
The hinge lasts long as long as you're not putting it as far back as you did in the video. The first click it makes should be enough, my Dsi XL has the same crispness of the hinge as it did a few years ago.
one major thing you forgot to mention in your video the 2DS and 3DS XL has no region protection while just the 3DS has a region protection which you wont be able to play your imported games

It's actually the software that has region protection, not the hardware. All 3DS models can play normal DS games from any region. As of right now there is only one 3DS game that can be played on 3DSs of all regions, and that's Nintendo 3DS Guide: Louvre.

I recently had to upgrade my new nintendo 3ds xl because it was no longer able to read game cartridges. So I decided to be cheap and buy a 2ds off ebay. I wanted the black and blue one and that’s the one I got. I love it! Even if the screen is smaller than what I’m used to and it looks more cheap, the way it’s built reminds me of a Gameboy from back in the day. Plus it’s surprisingly comfy to hold! And I really wasn’t a fan of where the game card slot was located on the new 3ds xl. At least now that it’s on the top of the system, I won’t have to worry about accidentally bumping it.

New 3DS XL is the best option. 2DS is huge and bad for portability. You'll never be able to fit that in a pocket. It's mostly for kids.

You don't have to push it up or down because of sunlight; but you can just turn the brightness up. I don't like the 3d effect, it hurts my eyes sometimes. That's it other than that get what you like :)
What I don't like about the 2DS is the lack of 3D graphics
I have a 3ds xl and have used the other 2 devices and I think that the xl is the best. It is still portable, it has large screens, it's comfortable in your hands and it has a really good battery life compared to the original

I owned the Wii back in 2007, and got the DSi in 2008. These devices were life changing, and my family promised to always upgrade if I wanted something new and I could afford it.
After the 3DS first came out, We traded in my DSi for it, after backing up the data. The backwards compatibility was AMAZING! My 3ds had served me well, and then the Wii U came out. We bought the Wii u. Backwards compatibility, also amazing. These consoles lasted a full 2 years before I got kinda bored of the Wii U, and my 3ds had broken. I was destroyed. So I went without a 3ds in 2013. In 2014, I got the 2DS. I loved it! It was so much fun, and it was the same experience.
My sister had always wanted a 3DS, since she always played on mine. In 2015, I got the best upgrade, Ever.
2DS to the **new** 3DS XL.
I backed up my data, transferred it to my new 3DS, and gave my 2DS to my sister, with a fresh copy of Mario Kart 7. In 2016, I gave my sister the new 3ds xl, and bought myself the galaxy style one. Today, my family has a Wii U, a nintendo switch, and we all have 3ds consoles. (my parents have 2ds consoles)
If you want to buy a console and you’re debating between the 3DS and the Nintendo Switch, I’d pick the 3ds. It has everything you can ask for.
My favorite games of all time are-

I got a regular 3DS recently, only adult use. The damn thing began to fail 3 months later. The R button gone completely, the stick started to get stuck and the L button fails occasionally. I'd buy a 3ds XL if I could ho back in time
It’s old, so it’s not really a big surprised. If your looking for a long term solution use the 2ds. If you want a good experience choose the 3ds xl
Actually I think its a give and take situation. Yea it doesn't have the clamshell design, but if you have bigger pockets, use a backpack, or a bag, then its not as major of an issue anymore. The big thing if you ask me, is that out of the 3 systems, the 2DS offers the most room for the hands. The 3DS is for all intents and purposes, is the same size as the DS lite, which cramped the living hell out of my hands after extended periods of play. Which leaves the 2DS and 3DS XL. Screen size is amazing on the XL for sure but personally not worth the nearly $80 price difference for just a bigger screen since I feel the 3D function is a gimmick at best, plus once again 2DS has more hand room.

In the factor that I have played all 3 systems. 2DS is alot more superior in all 3. It keeps players alot more cautious of where you will keep it pocket or travel wise. As coll as pocket fitting as most DS systems are it falls to the fact of how damaging it will be in said pocket. I had a buddy completely ruin an original 3DS and 3DSXL cause they were in his pocket and they amount of knocking around anyone can do broke both screens while closed. I like how the hinges were brought up in this video as well. After a while hinges will get loser and loser and sometime crack with the wear and tear. In the past the DS Lite was no subjuct. I found myself replacing the Lite every 1 1/2 year's cause the hinge completely broke. The speaks also really become and issue with hinges breaking or even being knocked around in pockets. The aadvantages to the 3DS and XL are yes the stereo speakers and 3D Mode, ect. But most the time 3D mode is not activated since after a bit it cause a splitting headace there is a reason 3D is easier with glasses. Battery Life I noticed on the 3DSXL is alot weaker than both the smaller systems. Since the larger system is pushing to bring you more experience with the bigger screen it drains faster. 2DS has its flaws like the others yes. Open screens can cause damage but it's all about the fact players are being told that it's supposed to be put in a bag. Not pocket. Things the really stand out on my view on why the 2DS is superior. One. It's like holding a gameboy. I am a retro nerd I love the game boy. I play my Micro everyday. The 2DS brings a classic fell for a handheld. The system is quite durable. No need to get scared everything you drip it (not recommending dropping it all the time) but it can take a hit since it's open. Like the 3DS it has great battery life, the lack of 3D mode is actually a wonder for someone such as myself who can't look at a condensed 3D image for more than 5 minutes without feeling sick. Lack of Glossy colors unlock the other two systems is great. Fingerprint smudges are the worst on 3DS and XL. There are many more reasons why I like 2DS better but it's my own opinion and everyone may have their own. And One more note before ending this rant. It's really kid friendly.

Well I have both the 3DS and the 3DS XL. I noticed the 3D looks TREMENDOUSLY better on my original 3DS. With my XL I get the "double picture effect" no matter how low the depth slider is. I can turn it up all the way on my 3DS and that doesn't happen. Graphics are a bit better too. Plus it fits in my pocket. Don't see why I'd choose the XL over that. Just for a bigger screen? That only enhances the poor quality of the graphics (only in comparison. Alone its good enough)
I don't really see any of those issues myself, but that's just me. Use whatever 3DS you like most. :p
I had considered that maybe I had a faulty 3DS XL but when comparing it to my brother's they looked the same. So I figured it was just how the XL looked. So I stick to the original. The XL is good without the 3D though.

This should really flip your lid. I sold my 3DS Original to my friend, then bought a 2DS. Why? 3D gave me a headache, and the 3DS Original was way too damn small to hold onto for someone with big hands like me. So what if I can't close it? What do you think we did with the game boy? I still have my GBA and no cover, and the screen is still practically brand new looking.
People prefer the more compactness of the 2ds, and fits in some peoples hands better from what iv'e heard.
It's a matter of ergonomics when it comes to the 2ds.

Actually, the 2DS comes in three color schemes in America. That is a North America exclusive special edition, it's completely white but has teal abxy,start,select,d-pad,thumb stick,and shoulder buttons. Go over to the UK, they have a UK exclusive special edition which is a crimson red, but with a white face instead of black.

Great Video! I have one question thought, what is the difference between the 2D and 3D mode on the 3DS. I mean do things literally look like they are sticking out of the screen at you in 3D mode or does it just look deeper/richer/more life like?
I'v had my 3Ds for 5 and a half years now and the hinges still work good and not broken.
I always like Nintendo products, but they lost me once they made the Nintendo DS instead of a new version of the Game Boy. The hinges on the Nintendo DS are crap and will probably break or at least wear down within a year. I'm actually on my second Nintendo DS because the first one broke, and the second one is on its last legs. The buttons feel cheap and have to be pressed harder to work at all, especially the A button because it's used a lot. The L button doesn't work at all anymore. My Game Boy Advance SP still is working great after 10 years. I don't know whether the new portable systems will last as long because they haven't even been on the market that long.
Weird. I got my DS on release day back in 2004 and I still play it. Not a single problem, and thousands of hours have been spent on that baby.
I got my DS years ago and it still opens and closes like it just came out of the box, still plays the games perfectly too.

I had the same problems, except the hinges. And that's because I take REALLY good care of my portables. Yet, the buttons (especially the bumpers) always die out. IMO, the 2ds feels more like a natural progression from the GBA than the DS ever did. It still has that feel of a Gameboy, yet the tech progress of the DS. *Plus, the 2DS is a hella lot cheaper than most DSs were when they came out.*

More than 10 years with my old 3ds and still works like the first day. Excelente built and confortable. My son has the 3ds xl and while it's screen is really cool, I still prefer the compact design of mine.

Really you can't go wrong with any choice, but do note that if you want a system that will last a long time, the o3dsxl and n2dsxl likely will not be for you. The former has a habit of cracking at the hinge over time (learned from experience) and the ladder is likely to die of ram failures. Overall, I think the best 3ds system including new models is the n3dsxl.

The 2DS is good, but if you want the full experience of a 3DS, the XL is the one you want.
I'll recommend the 2DS if you don't want fingerprints and you want something more simple.
I'll recommend the 3DS if you want the fold because it's more portable and easier to hide if you're a kid.

In the video you say the 2DS and 3DS have the same screens except that the 2DS ones aren't foldable. That's not so. The 2DS has a single screen that is split into two via the plastic casing: if you open that thing up, there's just one huge screen in there.

I have to say, I bought the 3ds xl, as I never got the 3ds, and I'm never going back. I love the huge screens and the rounded edges, it is much more comfortable to hold compared to the dsi I previously owned. Do it, it's worth the money, especially if you can buy it in a bundle like I did.
The hinge lasts long as long as you're not putting it as far back as you did in the video. The first click it makes should be enough, my Dsi XL has the same crispness of the hinge as it did a few years ago.
one major thing you forgot to mention in your video the 2DS and 3DS XL has no region protection while just the 3DS has a region protection which you wont be able to play your imported games

Henrique Perez well i had a debate with someone about a week about cause i was tossing the vita in his face (figure of speech) and he was explaining to me about how his 3DS XL could play imports and NA Games and that also the 2DS does the same
It's actually the software that has region protection, not the hardware. All 3DS models can play normal DS games from any region. As of right now there is only one 3DS game that can be played on 3DSs of all regions, and that's Nintendo 3DS Guide: Louvre.
Of that era, I chose the original 2DS.

I recently had to upgrade my new nintendo 3ds xl because it was no longer able to read game cartridges. So I decided to be cheap and buy a 2ds off ebay. I wanted the black and blue one and that’s the one I got. I love it! Even if the screen is smaller than what I’m used to and it looks more cheap, the way it’s built reminds me of a Gameboy from back in the day. Plus it’s surprisingly comfy to hold!
And I really wasn’t a fan of where the game card slot was located on the new 3ds xl. At least now that it’s on the top of the system, I won’t have to worry about accidentally bumping it.
For me, i preffer 3DS XL, cuz it has a bigger screen, slightly better HD fiture, more SD space then the reguler 3DS and better Sound.
I think its funny that evrerybody is all playing super mario bros and when they die, they hold the ds/3ds still
