This is what I did when the new 3Ds XL came out. I love the system, but I kind of want to pick up the 2Ds XL as well. I prefer it's design and I rarely use the 3D to begin with; also the 3Ds is heavy and bulkier.
For someone that suffers from hand problems, and has had an XL 3DS in his hands and got his eyes hurt, I think I'll be going with the 2DS. The lightweight design is a huge bonus for me.
The 3D on the new new3DSXL is amazingly good. It isn't just a gimmick... anymore. In fact, it's an advantage over the new2DSXL and, believe it or not, over the Switch. I bought the Switch first and then a couple months later, the new3DSXL and I have to say it is my favorite of the two.
I Love the looks of the new 2DS XL. It just feels way too fragile for me due to the bar in the middle being shorter. And also I actually love and value 3D, so I bought the new 3DSXL
Definitely made the right choice waiting on getting a new DS when the New 2DS XL came out. My old 3DS when I first got it is great and all but now looking into the New 2DS XL it's much thinner and the screen is much larger and clearer to see. I didn't much liked or cared for the 3D aspect of the 3DS which was why I much prefer the 2DS more. 3 or 4 years later today I came back into playing my New 2DS XL again because of the news about the eShop shutting down servers for them and I had never had the chance of playing some other games, so I ended up buying all the Ace Attorney games, the Shin Megami Tensei games, Stella Glow, and Radiant Historia as they were all on sale this past few weeks all for 70% off so now I have 11 new games to play and enjoy for a long time.
It's not a gimmick. I like the 3D, much like how I like parallax scrolling in the old games. That being said, the best is the NEW SNES 3DS XL. Nintendo did good in designing that system.
I disagree with the notion that the 3D is a gimmick. I play all my games in 3D and much prefer it to the regular 2D because for me the experience is enhanced the screen almost makes you feel like you are looking into a mini world on the screen
Ya know, being a gimmick isn't an inherently bad thing. It's just dented something being a novelty, which 3D has always been. But that doesn't mean it can't still be pretty cool. I use the 3D all the time on my OG model.
Pros/Cons SUMMARY: New 2DS XL has more glare, much worse camera placement, much worse speaker placement, much worse slider placement, a more delicate and lower quality formfactor, a shorter stylus, and a smaller battery. The New 3D with infrared eye tracking works considerably better than the non eye tracking 3D did on the old 3DS. The best game on the system is SM3DLand and it utilizes the function extremely well, in fact it makes it easier and more natural to traverse the levels and platforming. There are no benefits to the New 2DS other than lightness. I much prefer the thicker width of the New 3DS XL because it means the buttons and D Pad are up higher, so you have more room to stretch your fingers out.
Here I found the 2DSXL more comfortable, because of that lightness, and especially the rounder design. It's very noticeable for me on the shoulder buttons, it feels better in a longer play session, less cramping. That top screen feels junky though, to be sure. After seeing seeing it was just some razor thin plastic glued/clipped together I can understand why lol
Love my 2ds XL, don’t like how it feels a little cheep in the hand, and the screen wobbles quite a bit. The 3ds XL might have a better construction, but it is bigger and heavier.
Michelle Hughes did you read what i wrote? They can TURN IT OFF, if it hurts thier eyes. Having the 2 options in case you ever want to experience the awesome 3d. Is better than not having the option at all. i Understand if its a money thing and you can't afford the 3ds.
Michelle Hughes plus the new 3ds xl feels a lot more well made. My 2ds seems weaker and is harder to hold in my bigger hands. Where the 3ds cl fits better
If someone wants to buy one, get the 3ds, I got a 2ds xl and it always has problems such as it not reading the game, freezing and crashing but mine might just be faulty
I've enjoyed my 2ds xl very much coming from an older 3ds xl myself and so far it seems definitely worth it, plus if you've got butter finger luck like I do the 2ds xl may be great for you since it's nowhere near as heavy. I feels good to hold and plays just as any ds would be expected to play, I don't really mind the speakers being on the bottom half for it seems to have good surround sound to me (in my opinion). All in all it's definitely a good deal if you've never used the 3d function. Side note the normal 2ds is annoyingly clunky and blocky but the 2ds xl fits nicely in pockets being smaller than the new 3ds xl.
It’s kind of a shame Nintendo never presented anything amazing about this system, it’s just a bigger 3DS with some new buttons. Even the three exclusive games aren’t much considering they are available on other platforms such as the Wii, Xbox, and switch
Build quality aside, the 2DS Xl looks so modern and crisp. The ebay prices for the new 3DS XL is insane, 300+ for a console that hasn't been beaten to hell, 250+ for one thats scratched to shit. Meanwhile you can get a mint 2ds xl for less than 120 on eBay. I think for the price the 2ds xl is an absolute steal and actually edges out the new 3ds xl overall. More convenient to use, brighter screen, no gimmicky 3d
Hi. with the 3DS XL 3D turned off and the 2DS XL would you say the battery life is comparable? Or is the latter still slightly better? Is the 3DS XL speakers (being on the front) sounds better than the 2DS XL? Which console do you think has a slightly brighter screen and warmer tone? And which one loads games a bit faster? Cheers.
Watching this whilst waiting for my Nintendo 2ds xl it’s supposed to be delivered on Tuesday rn it’s Saturday almost Sunday upgrading from the ds lite I used to have a 3ds but I sold it 2 years ago and all of my games except the ones I couldn’t find
I think the best recommendation would be to TRY both before deciding. Some people absolutely love the 3D (which is WAY better than it was on the original 3DS btw), while others don't care about it. Also, many people say that the build quality of the 3DS XL (buttons, hinge, overall quality) is superior to the 2DS XL, so that may be important to you. I bought a 2DS XL and really liked it. However, 2 days after I received it, Amazon Prime day had a brand new 3DS XL Super Nintendo Edition, with a charger and Mario Kart, for $150. I missed the sale, but it got me to start researching, and I found that many people do love the 3D. So I sold the 2DS on eBay and ordered a new 3DS XL for $175. The 2DS got the job done, but I'm the kind of person who is very curious about what I may be missing with the 3D.
@@mshayashi It was a New 3DS XL that was also brand new. Those were the days lol. $150 for a brand new New 3DS XL. These days, that same one is going for $350-$400 on eBay used. Since they discontinued the 3DS the prices have skyrocketed
@@CompleteProducer84 Woow! As for me, at first I was thinking to buy the Nintendo 2DS LL... After several research, I've bought the Nintendo 3DS LL(this week), on Amazon...the price was quite reasonable...second hand, obviously...about the same price of the Nintendo 2DS LL. I'm looking forward to playing with it...still waiting to arrive.
@@CompleteProducer84 I neve had Nintendo...The other console that I had(for short time) is the Sega Game Gear... So, I don't understand this [Mod] thing that I've heard on many videos. I have many things to study and learn about Mod.
I love my 2DS XL, I just wish it had better grip to it, mine nearly slipped outta my hand a couple of times. Also I wish it had a way to put a wrist strap on it like the 3DS XL for the same dropping reason.
I have an original 3DS and I keep the 3D enabled all the time. Maybe one day I'll upgrade to a New 3DS. I think all the "XL" consoles look a bit pixelated.
@Mr McMahon No, "super stable 3D" itself is worth investing more money. It's huge improvement. Not mentioning about the fact that if you mod it, you can enable all CPU cores for ALL games, many games have a huge boost in loading speed and FPS.
What would push me more to the 3DSXL here is the position of the speakers. On the 2DSXL the speakers are pointing at your palm while the3DSXL has the speakers pointing at your face. Of course, that doesn't matter if you're using headphones. :/
Got a New 2DS XL recently cuz my old 3DS XL stopped working & it sucked not being able to play games for like 3 months. I got the Black and Blue one cuz that's all they had (the Pokéball one is much more expensive online and I wanted to play games asap bit hopefully they make nice shells for it soon). So far I think it's great & screens do look brighter, feels lighter & I hope it's much better built than the old 3ds so it lasts (transferring accounts to a New system when one doesn't work is a pain in the ass btw, you lose all your digital save data and have to re-download if you have to call Nintendo Support, they need to make accounts cloud based not console based).
Now in 2020 you can buy the New 2DS XL for only $99 US Dlls at walmart it also comes with Mario Kart 7 pre- installed :) so I bought it and transfer all my data and games from the normal 3DSXL to this one because the upper screen broke 2 years ago so it was a good purchase for me now that I have all my games back ;) oh and nice review btw
@@gustavoroque8830 And btw I already hacked the 2DS XL totally recommended all you need is an micro sd card depending on the size you get more games, and with a little help of a youtube tutorial you can have a massive library of games like Mario 64 port, All snes, nes, gameboy color and advance games, psone games, neo geo games, regular DS and 3DS games for free ;) I updated my 64gb micro sd card for a 128gb this thing is a homebrew beast so if you see one get one because nintendo is no longer making these systems anymore
"My one misgiving about the device is the hinge, which can be adjusted between three positions: one at a right angle, one completely flat, and one somewhere in between. But each of the positions has a little give to it that can cause the screen to wobble when moved around. I know, small problem." Many people seem to have this little issue...
In my opinion, the New 3DS XL is the most durable in the family... I have one and have dropped it countless times and there's only a few minor scratches to show for it!
I'll think I will stick to my NEW 3DS XL with the top IPS screen and a bottom TN screen. Since both screens on the NEW 2DS XL are TN. The speaker sound and placement on the NEW 2DS XL could have been better. However, as a first time buyer of the 3DS gaming experience, I think the NEW 2DS XL is the way to go.
DrMacintosh Yes, the whole screen thing is a gamble for the NEW 3DS and NEW 3DS XL. The NEW 2DS XL will be TN top and TN bottom. This helps Nintendo to keep the cost down and include an AC Adapter with the product. Now, TN screens are not terrible, but there is a difference between IPS and TN and the way the TOP screen is very "shiny" really doesn't help the situation. As I said before, I still think for a first time buyer, the NEW 2DS XL is a great option.
Wellp. As much as I like the New 3DS XL, the upper screen just breaks everything. As you said, both screens have different lighting technologies... and it shows. The upper screen is way warmer than the bottom screen and that sucks. It gets a cooler tint once I turn the 3D on. IMO the best color calibration is on the DSi's screens which display clean whites and an overall cooler color calibration .
I never had a DSi, I had an original DS and then replaced it with a DS Lite(which is just amazing). I had an original 3DS XL(not realizing the whole IPS and TN screens at the time). I then traded it in for a NEW 3DS XL, which I enjoy so much more.
Im not sure wich i should choose... Only thing i dont like about 2ds is the speaker position... And the only thing i dont like about the 3ds is the sd card position... And what i dont like about both is that they not more have a slot for normal SD cards...
I would go with a 3ds. It has more features to it but if you just want to play some games then I would go with the 2ds because its cheaper. I hope you decide soon.
@@Yooyooyaya TBH i just desperately wanted to play the zelda remakes on the 3ds. I didn't want the new 2ds xl because the smartphone/curvy design looks really unappealing to me lol. The more traditional clamshell is how i like it, though i would perfer if they made the new 3ds xl more like the new 3ds regular (colored buttons, swappable faceplates,) And if the nipple added was a second circle pad instead of.... a fucking nipple. Obafemi Agbaje lmfao yeah that’s basically why I got mine. I had 3ds xl before but not a “ new 3ds xl” , but that one was all scratched up by the previous owner. And yeah I get what you mean. I've had both and can honestly say that I like the 2DS XL better, it's lighter and doesn't hurt my hands, plus the 3D function doesn't even look that great and I always had it turned off. The 3DS XL does feel more premium, and the screen is a bit wobblier on the 2DS XL. They're both good consoles but I'd pick the 2DS XL.

@@simonsimonsimone Depends on the game. I haven’t used my 3DSxl in a couple of years. Mostly game on Switch and XBox Series X these days.
@@simonsimonsimone lol. No worries.
amazing review, no biased opinions. talked about all the specs in detail. overall a great job. subscribed
Just bought my New 3DS XL with a zelda leather pouch and 5 games. I'm in love!
I don’t know if he mentions this or not but the 2DS Xl has a bigger game library because it can play the DS games and the 3DS games
For some reason I want the new 2ds but I already got a switch it just looks cool
You should get the 2ds anyway it’s much different than a switch
Oh people replied now?

@@lapz78 did you get it?
@@lapz78 So? Did you get it???
Dom Noah Really? All it did for me was make my eyes hurt and water. xD
Ya know, being a gimmick isn't an inherently bad thing. It's just dented something being a novelty, which 3D has always been. But that doesn't mean it can't still be pretty cool. I use the 3D all the time on my OG model.
I love the 3D on my new 3ds xl its amazing way better than the regular 3ds
I use it so I know where everything is relative to the camera in the game.
I too love the 3d, especially while playing a link between worlds
3DS users: What the heck! They remowed the "main feature" in the 2DS.
Also 3DS users: Never puts the 3D on.
Pros/Cons SUMMARY:
New 2DS XL has more glare, much worse camera placement, much worse speaker placement, much worse slider placement, a more delicate and lower quality formfactor, a shorter stylus, and a smaller battery.
But do you think the 2ds is still worth it i still have the orginal 3ds and i want to upgrade should i get the 3ds or the 2ds?
Brand new 2ds xl's are $340 on Amazon now, highway robbery.
I dont get it. If people dont like the 3d, just turn it off.
pryt86 but why pay a extra 50 if u not gonna use it
Because if you ever want it you have to buy a new console
but i don't want to use it
Michelle Hughes did you read what i wrote?
It would be better if it was 480p but Nintendo is Nintendo.
Was so happy to see Monster Hunter in your video :D
2022 anyone?
Yep, just picked up a second hand 'New' Nintendo 2DS.
It’s kind of a shame Nintendo never presented anything amazing about this system, it’s just a bigger 3DS with some new buttons. Even the three exclusive games aren’t much considering they are available on other platforms such as the Wii, Xbox, and switch
I just like my 2DS and i’m watching 3DS owners call me poor lol... i just think it’s nicer cute and more modern
westanpeachesdead idky they’re saying that. It is ‘new’
I love my New 3ds I have it For a year and its Been one of my Best console investiments
Best, most informative review of this product that i found, thank you.
I'll wait until they release better colors I don't like the light blue around the 2ds
Super Brian Games
Theres a white and orange color.
Oh really? I didn't know that. I'll check it out then.
Pokeball themed red and white one comes out in November as well.
Mr. Moo same
Orange and white is a jpn exclusive isn't it ?
Hi. with the 3DS XL 3D turned off and the 2DS XL would you say the battery life is comparable? Or is the latter still slightly better? Is the 3DS XL speakers (being on the front) sounds better than the 2DS XL? Which console do you think has a slightly brighter screen and warmer tone? And which one loads games a bit faster? Cheers.
I would like to know as well. Can't find info anywhere.
The screen on the 2ds looks sexy af though because it blends in with the glass bezel
I hope you get it soon
Do you mean you bought a new [Nintendo 3DS XL] or a [New Nintendo 3DS XL]?
I bought the 1st one, just yesterday, on Amazon.
@@mshayashi It was a New 3DS XL that was also brand new. Those were the days lol. $150 for a brand new New 3DS XL. These days, that same one is going for $350-$400 on eBay used.
Since they discontinued the 3DS the prices have skyrocketed

Woow!
@@mshayashi Oh awesome! Enjoy, it’s a good system, especially if you ever decide to mod it

I neve had Nintendo...The other console that I had(for short time) is the Sega Game Gear...
So, I don't understand this [Mod] thing that I've heard on many videos. I have many things to study and learn about Mod.
I still have a Nintendo ds lite and it’s still amazing 😉
I love my 2DS XL, I just wish it had better grip to it, mine nearly slipped outta my hand a couple of times. Also I wish it had a way to put a wrist strap on it like the 3DS XL for the same dropping reason.
I like how the 2DS went for a DSi-esque layout.
I absolutely love my new 2ds xl
I have an original 3DS and I keep the 3D enabled all the time. Maybe one day I'll upgrade to a New 3DS. I think all the "XL" consoles look a bit pixelated.
U should get it now tbh.the 3d is soooo much more improved, you dont even know.
Thats's his own opinon not your's
@Mr McMahon
No, "super stable 3D" itself is worth investing more money. It's huge improvement. Not mentioning about the fact that if you mod it, you can enable all CPU cores for ALL games, many games have a huge boost in loading speed and FPS.
Dominic Coville handhelds are consoles
No the small 3ds’s are more pixelated
Thank you so much for making this video,

Still Waiting for 4DS...
I'd,like that
0:59 you said the "New" 3ds xl in reference to the 2ds. :P
(lessens the risk of the cartridge falling out)
Since when did a cartridge fall out on a 3DS it snaps in the slot!
Even the normal 2ds cartridges won’t fall out
@@astralmaster yeah it snaps in perfectly
@Brent N. maybe his 3ds had a problem with the cartridge slot
@@Ravist-P Sometimes og DS games can fall out but that is only if you drop to console from more than 2 feet.
@@ancientshiv9837 yeah but idk dat since i never dropped my 3ds
It won't say game card removed randomly while playing games and make you insert certain games a million times before it gets recognized...
I feel like an outcast with my old 3dsXL...
I feel like a super outcast with my ds lite
I'm still rocking the Gameboy Advanced SP. Don't worry.
don't sweat it
Huh, this video releases on my 14th bithday
I haven't touched a 3ds in a year. It'll be easy for me to get used to this new 2ds :P
OG 2DS wins because not only does it come with a charger, but it doubles as a doorstop when you need it.
Tristris 389 It’s also a mini plate.
To sum up the video
They're both great
If you want 3D get a 3ds
If you don't want 3D buy a 2ds
dragon master I would get a 3ds but shit like how are they still 300 after like all these years
Samuelsonton OG wow really were are they at?
Now in 2020 you can buy the New 2DS XL for only $99 US Dlls at walmart it also comes with Mario Kart 7 pre- installed :) so I bought it and transfer all my data and games from the normal 3DSXL to this one because the upper screen broke 2 years ago so it was a good purchase for me now that I have all my games back ;) oh and nice review btw
Is is new or used. I was thinking about ordering one but idk
@@gustavoroque8830 They are new :)
I just got this for my early Christmas gift and I like the design and everything about it I love it
igot the old 3ds xl a month before the new one. rip ;-; i was so sad
My question is
Which is more stronger??
3ds
"My one misgiving about the device is the hinge, which can be adjusted between three positions: one at a right angle, one completely flat, and one somewhere in between. But each of the positions has a little give to it that can cause the screen to wobble when moved around. I know, small problem."
Many people seem to have this little issue...
That whole screen thing is a gamble from what I hear.
ARCADDER every 3DS is calibrated differently. Your DSi was just lucky
I never had a DSi, I had an original DS and then replaced it with a DS Lite(which is just amazing). I had an original 3DS XL(not realizing the whole IPS and TN screens at the time). I then traded it in for a NEW 3DS XL, which I enjoy so much more.
2DS XL Poke Ball edition is the best 👌🏼
how can 2ds owners say their console is better when they have a stylist that's smaller than a child's finger

Obafemi Agbaje yeah, well I ended up getting a refurbished one for like 190, but it literally looks and plays brand new
@@Yooyooyaya TBH i just desperately wanted to play the zelda remakes on the 3ds.
I didn't want the new 2ds xl because the smartphone/curvy design looks really unappealing to me lol.
The more traditional clamshell is how i like it, though i would perfer if they made the new 3ds xl more like the new 3ds regular (colored buttons, swappable faceplates,)
And if the nipple added was a second circle pad instead of.... a fucking nipple. (at least have it generate milk lol)
Obafemi Agbaje lmfao yeah that’s basically why I got mine. I had 3ds xl before but not a “ new 3ds xl” , but that one was all scratched up by the previous owner. And yeah I get what you mean. The 2ds isn’t my style either, and I wish that the 3ds had the swapping face plates and different colored buttons. And that fucking pencil eraser of a c-stick is a little annoying too but at least there’s one there lol
