Just finished Wolfsbane, and honestly, I like how the book has a moment after the prelude in chpater one where a Space Wolf pulls Loken aside and is like: Dude don't call us Space Wolves, you'll sound like a noob in front of Leman Russ. Also don't call our fortress monastery the fang, some dumbass named it that, we call it the Aett. Also, I know you have no way to know this but we're honoring you, be grateful. Then he meets with Russ and Russ is like dude I need you to be honest, also drink, ok no I mean really DRINK BITCH. Russ: OK now that you're fairly intoxicated, can I kill Horus? Loken: NOPE. Maybe when he was Horus but definitely not now. Russ: haha you're drunk of course I can! Also I hate this spear. Let me spend a couple scenes remembering my hatred for it and trying to lose it because of those old space wolves books, and how some dumb author thought this would be a great weapon for me for some damn reason. Where Dan Abbnet and Guy Haley try and work to leverage Lee Lighter's work to reconcile the stuff William King wrote to make the Space Wolves a bit more dignified. They're still not the white scars but they are getting better.
Again very informative. I can only recommend the upgrade pack one! Good sculpts, especially the shields and the one torso. Ruleswise however so not equip your rout like FW as it would be illegal 😄. First Check the unit entry and go quantity with the Grey Slayers.

This sort of layers in a really weird way with "ultra compulsory" grey slayers, the primarch's chosen ROW, and so on.

But in regards of the SW rules, while some are good on paper, the hole thing together is clunky, counter intuitive (You lose the Grey slayer's Warrior's mettle if a character joins them and at the same time you are forced to have more characters, granted, cheap power weapons, but you paid for a useless skill) , unimaginative, poorly costed (Varangyr, the Deathsworn, Rune priest its the same cost as a librarian but has -1 I for no reason, etc.) and stupidly restricted in the army building section, and i'm not talking about the ROW, they are more restrictive and some pretty bad (they are optional, so yeah).
"Kill their Warlord"....... Its not that easy, specially if the enemy knows his weakens. It's not that of blow. Don't get my wrong, it is. But still, army wide pinning + no sweeping advances... its kinda meh. If "kill the enemy Warlord" its the best tactics you can do, it can be easy counter play (try too snipe a Magnus surrounded with his sekhement before he wipes you sorry as with the D hahaha). Oh and "be a Word Bearer and play a quite meh ROW (granted, very good in this much-up).
If you want to say it's hard to kill Magnus and Sekhmet, I'd point out that it's no easier than killing Vulkan and Firedrakes, Horus and Justaerin, Lorgar and Gal Vorbak, Guilliman and Invictus Suzerin etc. But Thousand Sons characters if you're REALLY afraid of them, take a squad of sisters with grenade launchers, they will kill even a Psi-Warlord Titan in one turn, or use the Word Bearers Rite of War where all doubles are perils of the warp.... there's a few nasty tricks you can use. Of course, a lot of this comes down to the player you're facing, nobody has ever EVER complained about how I field my Thousand Sons because I don't make douche-lists. Also, you can find ways of exploiting their cults, and if you can drain warp-charge, especially by killing HQ's they're in for a hard time.
I decided to play wolves because it would be something different than my alpha legion. Then book 7 came out and we got the mess that it is. I run the rite of war Armored Breakthrough which odd when you consider rules. Luckily my play group plays for fun are not complete rule sticklers. Basically I have to run 2 squads of gray slayers and 2 predators, and i take a hq per 1000 points even if it takes me over the my legal amount of allowed HQs. We treat them like the old 3rd edition codex. FW really dropped ball i feel with the 7th ed book, maybe something to do with the death of Alan? Oh and yea that banana fur and upside down boltgun is the worst thing ever.
There is no Deathwatch yet. The legions killed Xenos just fine on their own back then. As in, exterminated almost the entire galaxy over the course of the Crusade.
I came a bit late for burning of prospero and a lot of what I'm seeing on ebay looks a bit suspect. Also any chance (and you may have already done this) for a cross walk of 30K models to not obvious 40K versions? e.g. grey slayers close combat squads, what are they in 40K? Blood claws seem the closest but not really.

So if you use 1 force chart and say play a 4k or 5k battle. You disregard the standard 1 to 3 hq slots and just go off the points as per 1k per hq. But the rest of the force chart stay the same. As well say you play a 2500pts game you have to round the points up to 3k for purpose for hqs. So you would have to take 3hqs then. For a 2500pts game and so forth.
But there is no FAQ on that, you can't just change the Force Org chart to suit, for example if you 'must have more heavy than fast attack' in an army, you can't just add more heavy slots in order to fill out your Fast. Realistically it's in dire need of an FAQ, but then, so much of book VII is in need of said FAQ......
Its the same rule in the original space wolfs codex. Except the original was 750pts instead of 1000pts. So stands to reason it would play out the same way as it was FAQ in that codex

Do it. There's 30k Templars, I have an army of them, they are a sub-set of the Imperial Fists veterans and have their own units.

The HQ per 1000 points rule overwrites the force Organization and the compulsery HQ thing is that you need one of them

Yes, I didn't mention that problem as it's related to the Primarch and certain Rites of War, both of which are beyond the scope of 'getting started'.

There are other FOC's such as the Zone Mortalis ones, which there are three of, and the 30k main ones, aka normal, Leviathan, Castellan, etc.
