This is quite an interesting version. I like the instrumental arrangement. Most people react to the version where John is playing a white grand piano in a room at Tittenhurst Park, while Yoko opens all the window shutters. I believe this version is from "A Salute to Sir Lew Grade" in 1975. Sir Lew was a British media mogul who at the time was head of the company which owned the Lennon and McCartney song catalogue. I'm sure Lennon was thrilled to be on the bill! Anyway, sadly, this was Lennon's last public performance.

Yoko Ono watched on as he composed the melody, chords and most of the lyrics, and nearly completed the whole song in one short writing session." Taken from "The Story of... That line where John says "...and no immigration, too" was originally "and no religion, too" on the original record. At the time this was filmed John was fighting the US government to get his Green Card (the Nixon Administration was using John's marijuana arrest in England years ago to deny him resident status). So that's what he meant by "immigration" - nothing to do with refugees or the Mexican border or anything like that.

What a gem,thanks.
It became our national anthem.
I lived a few miles away from the Dakota building in 1980 as a 6 year old..I remember the night he was shot, some guy told my father John had just been shot...he wasn't declared dead yet.. it was the first bad event I remember hearing about in my lifetime. .we were walking on the streets of the city coming home from the store..news spread fast through the streets
As are many regular folks..fighting for a cause and societal change..the unknowns. Ponder that good people.
Nice comment guys..john lennon is one of my fav...theres a nice cover of this song by the franz rythm family band that amazed me, its a female version..it gives justice and adds more life to this beautiful song..thats my personal reaction as a musician.
...and then to have John Lennon Assassinated in 1980... the Good Die Young. This world was a much better place with John in it! I miss him every day.
I first heard this in the 60's and it meant a lot then and still does. The irony and tragedy is that he was all about peace and love and yet he was killed by a chaotic mind and hate..murdered.... tragic.... we lost someone who could have united us all. But at least we have his beautiful music and videos of his passion to keep in mind.
Close but this song came out in 71. This year is the 50th anniversary
