I’m a pretty hardcore John Lennon fan and I have never seen this video. Wow! It’s very rare to see a live performance of him as a solo act. We all lost so much when he was murdered. The irony of this man who advocated for peace and love was killed in front of his own home in such a violent manner. Thanks for this. 🌺✌️

John, with The Beatles & after, had a profound & positive impact on millions of people in every way from music & fashion to the peace movement.
That's why his murder left people around the world reeling & was covered in the news as if it were a Presidential assassination. That's how impactful he was.
He wasn't perfect. But he was supremely talented & socially conscious in ways that did some good in this world.
BJ said "We've all got to be humanitarians". So true & very much what John was saying.
Thank you for a respectful reaction & analysis.💙🌿💚

This is quite an interesting version. I like the instrumental arrangement. Most people react to the version where John is playing a white grand piano in a room at Tittenhurst Park, while Yoko opens all the window shutters. I believe this version is from "A Salute to Sir Lew Grade" in 1975. Sir Lew was a British media mogul who at the time was head of the company which owned the Lennon and McCartney song catalogue. I'm sure Lennon was thrilled to be on the bill! Anyway, sadly, this was Lennon's last public performance.

His son Sean was born in 1975 and John more or less retired from the music business in order to be closely involved in his upbringing - something he had missed out on with his first son Julian. Your comment about Religion causing wars is a stereotype, it's not true at all. It's something that athiests lie about.
For example, WW1 had nothing to do with religion and 40 million people died. That's several times more casualties than all religious wars Combined.
WW2 had nothing to do with Religion and 75 million people died.
The fact of the matter is that 'Lack of Religion' (Athiests) has caused more war and more death as a result of those wars.
      FACT:
From the list of 1,763 wars only 123 have been classified to involve a religious cause, accounting for less than 7 percent of all wars and less than 2 percent of all people killed in warfare.
I'm sorry I had to bring facts into this.... I know you're not used to them.

IMAGINE by John "Lennon was inspired by several poems from wife Yoko Ono's 1964 book Grapefruit... Lennon later explained that the song "should be credited as a Lennon/Ono song. A lot of it - the lyric and the concept - came from Yoko, but in those days I was a bit more selfish, a bit more macho, and I sort of omitted her contribution, but it was right out of Grapefruit."
"Lennon composed the song one morning in early 1971. It was written on a Steinway piano, in a bedroom at his Tittenhurst Park home in Ascot. Yoko Ono watched on as he composed the melody, chords and most of the lyrics, and nearly completed the whole song in one short writing session."
Taken from "The Story of... 'Imagine' by John Lennon" by Tom Eames (October 2020).

That line where John says "...and no immigration, too" was originally "and no religion, too" on the original record. At the time this was filmed John was fighting the US government to get his Green Card (the Nixon Administration was using John's marijuana arrest in England years ago to deny him resident status). So that's what he meant by "immigration" - nothing to do with refugees or the Mexican border or anything like that.

a working class kid who conquered the world, commanded as much influence as presidents, and this is what he did with it. the world needs more people to use their voices for good.

If you’re interested in hearing cover versions of Imagine, check out Elton John’s live version of Imagine from 1980; he gives reference to Lennon as “an old friend of mine who lives down the road” (because his concert was in Central Park). The other is from Queen & Paul Rodgers in 2005, it’s here where Brian May refers to Lennon as “probably the greatest rock star of all time…next to Freddie (Mercury).”

John went from being one of the most famous men of the 20th Century as a Beatle , to being one of the most famous proponents of peace and human rights , he wasn't perfect , as no human being truly is , but he was perfect for his time on Earth with the beautiful music he created and his eternal legacy of fighting for social causes , I often think how great it would have been to have him grow much older, wiser and more spiritually complete had he not been murdered , I miss his soul , he meant so much to the world...

I lived a few miles away from the Dakota building in 1980 as a 6 year old..I remember the night he was shot, some guy told my father John had just been shot...he wasn't declared dead yet.. it was the first bad event I remember hearing about in my lifetime. .we were walking on the streets of the city coming home from the store..news spread fast through the streets

I first heard this in the 60's and it meant a lot then and still does. The irony and tragedy is that he was all about peace and love and yet he was killed by a chaotic mind and hate..murdered.... tragic.... we lost someone who could have united us all. But at least we have his beautiful music and videos of his passion to keep in mind.
