This is a live performances on a TV program , no auto tune 1965 electronics , one take and yes Bobby Hatfield could sing
Back in the day this was called "Blue-eyed soul."
No computerized Autotuned crap, just pure talent.
Pretty hard to believe considering the quality that this is a live performance from 56 years ago!
BJ, you felt it like you should!! Asia didn't seem to get the emotions like you did.
Too worried about his hair.
She would rather hear a cover singer I guess...I dont get her reactions sometimes.
This is one of the greatest live vocal performances of all time. In my opinion it is better than the recorded version of this song. No auto tune or any other enhancement, just pure talent.
No auto tune, no anti static and no synthesisers Just a set of lungs and more than a little class. Perfect phrasing timing and vocal control Trust me there's nobody out there now who could out do this performance
Right not even the late great Elvis ( just a little side note EVERYONE in show biz wore / wears makeup; stage make up. If you look at Elvis, that man had dyed black lacquered hair, thick dark face makeup & smouldering eye make up). If you look at his early pics, like early to mid 50s, he has light brown hair & fair skin. I'm not downing Elvis; it just was & it was part of who he made himself over to be Bobby just has the usual face makeup people wore for stage appearances maybe a touch orangey but blondes tan like that sometimes and they were probably just matching his tan
Flynn, you crazy - Hahaha
The color was distorted to teh yellow. Someone straightend it out, looks like he has a spray tan. When it's corrected color, his skin looks normal, and the jacket looks less salmon and more purple-pink.
He sung that with a COLD! His Mother was in the audience and he was nervous.
I heard he was actually sick with covid 19
@@sandragray4598 not too funny.
@@elizabethrogers8306 "Not too funny," but still kinda funny? You have to understand the placement in another time of something that didn't yet exist. Hey, nobody pays me for this, give me a break!
@@sandragray4598 Covid 19 wasn't out yet must have been Covid 18
@@jordanknight336😂
Asia you totally missed on this one. Talking about hair and makeup while one of greatest voices in history is in your ears. BJ gets it
Agreed
In fairness, she said she's heard this song many times, but the video was new. So, she was focusing on things that were new to her.
I don't think he had much makeup on, but he had a tan. Beautiful voice and he was very handsome!
Agree. Very distracting.
Agreed. I hate when that happens. The disappointment when someone misses recognizing the pure talent on display. Oh well.
Bobby Hatfield, who sings this live performance, was the person singing this song in the movie Ghost. The movie used the track from the Righteous Brothers album. But as great as that track is, this live performance is on another level. No one has ever matched it.
Oh yeah - this is the ultimate version!
Definitely, this version is vastly superior...it’s a pity that most people have never heard this best version...it’s far more powerful and dynamic than the radio/album/studio version.
The video quality is also amazing.
I don’t feel you appreciated the vocals on this one. Maybe the greatest of all time. No mfn cap. It kills me to say that. He tore the ass out of this.
No she didn’t get it at all, more interested in nonsense like was he wearing make up 🙄
I totally agree with you..... I just started watching this site and I don't like that they stop the music TOO much and talk too much !!!! AND it will be right at an awesome part of a song !! No disrespect just my opinion
@Spoon I ain’t mad...respect
No version ever done touches Bobby's live performance. That man was an all-time great!
Yes not even close to Bobbie
U need 2 listen 2 Austin Brown from Home Free sing this
@@shaunconnerley4345 Good, but doesn't match Bobby.
Amen to that, no one comes close.
Dying elvis?
Doesn't matter who you've heard singing this - until you listen to this version you haven't heard it.
Disappointing that Asia was completely disconnected with one of the finest vocal performances in pop history.
frrrr
I think people are reading too much into her comments.
Her reactions are often "muted," missing the important "nuances" of the singer/song.
The brother can flat out sing.
👍
Bobby earned that tan mostly on the golf course, but also just off his honeymoon here. That ring I believe is his wedding band. He was absolutely gorgeous, funny, and sexy.
Nah, the color on the video is distorted.
The colour on this version is ‘off’ - there are colour corrected versions out there which are a lot more natural. The ring is a signet ring with his initials in diamonds … both he and Bill had them and Bill still wears his. This was taped in September and he was married in October, so no wedding band yet.🙂
@@zanhar7688 There is a color corrected version of this video. Much better visuals.
@@mzaree3821 that was my comment 🙂
@@zanhar7688 Also mine. I've seen the two in comparison. The color corrected one had much better visuals. I watched the original when I was 15 on the Andy Williams show when it first aired on tv and it was in color.
So sad that all the attention was put on this man's looks. He was an incredible singer. You missed out.
I was thinking exactly the same thing.
To me, it just makes it “more interesting” to the youngin’s when they experience it cuz they never, ever have been exposed.
They ain’t being bigoted, just surprised from their experience (or lack of) because so many local, popular radio stations and TV put out canned crap in a genre that sounds( and looks) the same.
She is being such a bit h, almost but not quite being a wee bit anti-white?????
@@dawnhauton7543I noticed that when she made a comment about the lead singers hair during "Wild Cherry, Play that Funky Music" reaction...
Yes, yes, yes, I think she really didn't appreciate this beautiful classic by BOBBY HATFIELD. I guess everyone has there music choices. Sad, a beautiful song.
No autotune, no reverb, no EQ.. All. Natural talent.. Rest in peace Bobby Hatfield 💓💓💓💯💯 let's see a recent artist do this... 🙄🙄
Oh my God I damn near lost it when they kept pausing it and she paused it one time to ask if he was wearing make up for chrissakes oh my God I can’t watch these people any longer
Focus on his looks, ignoring the pure soul in his voice
They're just jealous that there's no talent today and everybody just wears fashionable stupid clothes back then was real music
Yes little petty sensitive on her . But whatever
I don't know an artist today who could deliver such beautiful live vocals without auto tune or any special effects!!!
“The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Greatest Male Vocal Duet Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on an 88 key piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary.
“You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin” was the most played song on radio in the 20th Century.
"Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965. Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree. Bobby's use of "Runs" is brilliant. He is the master of the technique and started the trend. 7 notes just to say the word "I".... Their name came when they did a show in a smaller venue and a black man told them…. You two Brothers are Righteous.
In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin’ Feelin‘" - "Soul And Inspiration".... They were perfect, awesome, amazing, incredible......
Regarding the make-up? This was a live performance on the Andy Williams Show and they wore make-up for the TV Cameras...Other than for TV, men back then would not wear make-up...
This isn't even the original video. It was shot in black and white and redone in color.
@@iAMahab1100 that's interesting - and amazing. I didn't realise that. You cant even believe the evidence of your eyes these days. In the earlier clip with Andy Williams, he's not so orange, though. I also thought he looked a little sweaty in the final close-ups, but put it down to the belief that he had a cold at the time, he does sound a little husky on a couple of occasions. Still, it was superlative performance, never bettered yet.
Thanks, Kids! the "Ghost" version was the recording - but this is Bobby LIVE - the best ever - apparently he was nervous b/c his MOM was in the audience -- I'm sure she was proud - I love how his voice is so effortless! He doesn't need to scream or strain.. just calm, and perfect!
This was 1965. Virtually all performers were buttoned up with perfect hair and narrow ties. Bobby’s pink suit, shirt and tie really pushed the boundaries but it is his remarkable voice that still thrills this 80 y. o. Woman. 🥰
You may have heard the "Ghost" version (in the studio by this Righteous Brother Bobby Hatfield), and the "Angelina" version, but you've not heard any presentation better than this LIVE TELEVISION performance. Song originally penned in 1955 for a prison movie. A prisoner was about to be unchained/released, but he had doubts about his reception at home by his wife/girlfriend.
"Unchained Melody" was written in 1955 by Alex North and Hy Zaret. It was written as the theme song for the prison film "Unchained," hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. In 1955, three versions of the song (by Les Baxter, Al Hibbler, and Roy Hamilton) charted in the Billboard top 10 in the United States, and four versions (by Al Hibbler, Les Baxter, Jimmy Young, and Liberace) appeared in the top 20 in the United Kingdom simultaneously, a record for any song. Of the hundreds of recordings made, the Righteous Brothers' version, featuring a Bobby Hatfield solo, became the jukebox standard and reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 14 in the UK in 1965. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, but the Righteous Brothers' 1965 version remains the most popular. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.
His voice was so beautiful and sweet. It's not important how looked in that moment. This song has 4 guinness world record.
When single women watch this they fall in love. When married women watch this, they feel guilty.
The guy literally puts a spell on women with his voice.
Let’s not forget that Bobby had a bad cold at the time singing this. What a talent? My favourite version. No-one even comes close.
In case you didn't get the memo.....
YOU'VE LOST THAT LOVING FEELING....
Not sure what terminology to use but Bobby is singing in like 7 different octaves. This is about as close to perfection as your going to get. Just him a 🎤microphone . No re-takes no auto tuning. Live I might add as well. The ending was dam near opera!
He covers 20 notes from C4 through F5 an octave and a half with no force or distortion
This is a solo effort by one half of "The Righteous Bros. Duet. Bobby Hatfield's voice was truly amazing. Bill Medley sat this one out, to let Bobby have the spotlight all to himself. What a performance, and what a voice!
They actually flipped a coin to determine which of them would sing it and Bobby won.
@@brewswillis9783 Not on the show, for the studio verson, I believe?
@@rubydazzler Oh yes, for sure. Though it would be cool if there was a recording somewhere of Bill singing it also.
@@brewswillis9783 I can't imagine Bill singing UM or Ebb Tide. He was too raspy and he didn't like the song anyway, from what's been said. I think he was too much of an Alpha to be so romantic! But Bobby's voice was so dulcet, seductive, velvet silk, he was perfect for it. Although he could rock out too, as in Justine and other songs. I've heard Bill singing it as a tribute to Bobby, but it was a bit rubbish, I won't lie to you. Although, at his age, it's pretty good he can still sing anyway. :D
@@rubydazzler Look what I found: ua-cam.com/video/iV6H0oOCM2Q/v-deo.html
Most of us men don't have any idea what it feels like to be beautiful but Bobby Hatfield sure got to know.
He had insane voice control
I am old enough to remember the mid-60s and everybody dressed up like this. Any time my parents went out to dinner or to a movie they dressed up. As my dad's mom used to say, "If you are going out you dress to look your best." I miss those days.
Not sure if someone else mentioned but the Ghost version was the studio version. Most people prefer this one.
I had loved the record, but let's face facts... this blows it out of the water. Will be played at my funeral; my song with my husband. I was 6 & he was 17 when it came out.
"UNCHAINED MELODY" is one of the greatest love songs ever written.
We use to call Bobby " BLUE EYED SOUL"
Bill Medley, too!!
They had talent back then.
How many people can hit those high notes, male or female, without showing extreme effort? Bobby looks so relaxed as he hits those notes without any apparent real effort. He makes it looks so easy, although we all know it is anything but easy. His voice is so soft and calming, yet attention getting! Bobby Hatfield was a master vocalist, and owns this song!
His mother was in the audience, he wanted his mother to enjoy this song. And she did.
Y'all gotta do You lost that loving feeling by the Righteous Brothers
YES YES YES
Agreed
I lip synced that in 8th grade when they still taught music in schools.
Yes! And Soul and Inspiration
Please, Pretty Please
When artists dressed up for appearances and had class. My man was dripping in that salmon colored suit...lol.
Pleaaaasee stop pausing! Please! This is one of the greatest vocal performances of all time. Please just listen to it. Thanks.
but, aren't they supposed to be reacting to it? If you just want to listen to the song, just call up the original vid.
@@rubydazzler some songs need to be heard first and then reacted to after.
Pausing to comment on hair was the issue I believe
The movie soundtrack was the studio version. It doesn't touch this live version.
This is Bobby's song! He killed it! RIP Bobby!!! ❤
Bobby Hatfield, whose the upper harmonies of the pop-soul duo the Righteous Brothers, died In January 2004, in a hotel Kalamazoo, Mich. He was 63 . The initial autopsy found that Hatfield had advanced coronary disease. RIP Bobby, you are missed
The Righteous Brothers were very popular and they are iconic 'Blue Eyed Soul' singers. Check out The Righteous Brothers on Andy Williams Show, 'Tell You What I Say' a Ray Charles tune. And men and women had to look well groomed, 'polished' for live performances. Yes he was a looker with beautiful blue eyes. His voice is unbelievable and he could have sung opera with his falsetto voice, but did not. You guys miss-out on how he truly sounded like, getting distracted with his attractive appearance. lol
As a woman approaching 50 who has listened to this song for as long as she can remember, I have to say that I'm sticking with BJ on this reaction.
That was the music of my grandparents (who I grew up with), a time when people were musical instruments in human form: not autotune, audio systems that are probably now part of some museum collection and still... .
Orchestras with "real musicians" and singers that did not require smoke, choreography, or anything else, they were just music... and the magic was done.
You may want to react next to these Righteous Brothers songs: "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" and "Soul and Inspiration."
Yes, and hopefully concentrate on the song instead of her disgraceful comments on Bobby Hatfield’s appearance and the ridiculous number of interruptions.
The greatest live performance ever n I am speaking in 2022 .I remember when this song came out
This song was written for a prison movie I believe in 1955 named "Unchained", hence the name of the song, Bobby Hatfield's version is the most well known.
Now this is real music. No cussing and swearing. No violence and calling females filthy names. No auto tune!! Just pure harmony and talent from Bobby Hatfield. The man is a true gentleman. You put this on when it's just you and your girl and it's red panties night. ❤️❤️❤️😆😆😆
He took his voice higher on this TV performance than on the studio version.
He was born this way not his fault yes blonde people often have blue eyes but most important he had beautiful soul and fantastic voice
Two notes. This was the most played song on the radio in the 20th century. Also, the lyrics were written from the perspective of someone in prison wanting to know if his lady would still be there for him when he got out. FYI.
The song was originally written for the 1955 prison movie 'Unchained' and clocked in at under a minute and a half (vocals by Todd Duncan). A very different song. The same year that the film premiered 3 other artists made the Billboard top 10 with their own versions, and it has since become one of the most covered songs in music history.
Bobby's version has been the staple since it came out.
You want to talk about Bobby Hatfield having makeup????🤤🤤🤤 Seriously? Bobby had a good tan and was a good looking guy. This is one of the greatest songs ever. Saw the Righteous Brothers live in 1965 in San Diego with the love of my life. They were class & was incredible concert.
BJ showing his expertise on the movie Ghost.
This was early in the days of color television. Can you imagine how vibrant this was to those of who saw this when it first broadcast on the Andy Williams Show (in living color) with that absolutely GORGEOUS salmon colored jacket. Somewhere on UA-cam there's a longer version of this that shows Bobby Hatfield (singing here) along with his fellow Righteous Brother Bill Medley talking with show host Andy Williams and explaining how they got the name The Righteous Brothers. And even this is not the original of this song it's just the most successful.
One of, if not the best live performance of all time. 1965 iirc.
This performance was on The Andy William's Tv Show...Bobby Hatfield was really nervous because his mom was sitting in the audience. Everyone on the NEW COLOR tv had to wear makeup because otherwise they would look green if they had a very fair complexion.
Amazing talent and all she can focus on is "does he have makeup on" or his perfect hair. All young men had that perfect hair back then.
There are a lot of good reaction videos out there but this couple isn't the ones doing them.
Beautiful song, beautiful voice.
Never heard anything like Bobby before, have you?! Righteous Brothers were both great as soloists, or together. Not bad for a 25-year-old kid, eh?
All performers wore stage makeup. They still do. The hair was the style of the day. The suit was color coordinated. They were on a show and it was Valentine's day. Please stop picking him apart.
Masterful!!! Live, simply beautiful,,, btw he was in style for that time in terms of his hair.. the man was fine in many ways.
NO one sings this song better than Bobby Hatfield!!! He OWNED that song!!!
If this is your first time reacting to the Righteous Brothers, it makes no sense to me to start with a solo. You need to hear the fantastic harmonies of both "brothers" singing together like You've Lost that Loving Feeling or Soul and Inspiration. After you hear them both, then you can move on to a solo like this one.
They can do what they want, and apparently, based on their comments during the react, they had no idea what this performance would be.
@@smithereensfan3766 LMAO! Or they are both lying and have heard this before and made this because they think it makes them look smart and fair & balanced (if you know what I mean). And they think they can fool a lot of viewers. Did they fool you?
Live band and performance. The Righteous Brothers (not real brothers), Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield both wanted to record the single, so they tossed a coin and Bobby won. It was meant to be because no one could match this perfection. No gimmicks, no autotune, no jumping around the stage and no veins bulging in his neck and head for those high notes. Just pure talent and amazing range. After 60 years it’s still thrills old and young alike. RIP Bobby.
Bobby Hatfield. Legend. The only version anyone needs to listen to. Best version ever
What you are watching is pure talent this is his voice no autotune, no board to get his clear range just a man and a microphone. And he nails it.
This was a network television show. There's a good chance everybody had make-up on...for TV.
Effortless. Live. No auto correction. Raw talent.
This was a live tv performance... one take!
I know this was posted a year ago, but I loved Asia 2 seconds in, "Where have we been?!" I literally laughed out loud at her joy
This version was performed and recorded live on the Andy Williams tv show so he was in full stage make-up so the bright lights wouldn't wash him out on tv.
The version from Ghost is the studio version. This live version is far superior to the studio one. This song was written for a 1955 movie titled Unchained about a prisoner longing for his love. Many sang it before and after Bobby Hatfield, but Bobby's is the definitive version. Check out Bobby and the other "brother" (not really related), Bill Medley, doing You've Lost That Loving Feeling to see why they were the definition of blue eyed soul. It's the most played song on radio and tv of the 20th century.
That dude just sang like that LIVE.
If y'all do the song you lost that loving feeling wait till y'all hear his brother sing
They weren't really brothers.
This is what was called Blue Eyed Soul. Altho this song song was released by many artist this version has been deemed the ultimate
Instead of trippin about what he looks like why don't you try listening to him
There is no one alive today w this level of excellence and brilliance.
That's one of the best voices and videos So raw. Yes. Of all time
they were called crooners in the 60's, they would sing like this to win over women
the boys weren't crooners though, until Spector got ahold of them and stuffed them into dinner jackets and bow ties. They could rock out and shout the blues with the best. Listen to Justine and I Wanna Make Love to You.
This was a cover btw and he did it best. He rocked this song, it was about soldiers returning home asking to wait for me, He did his best performance cause his mom was in the audience, you could see him bite his lip at the end. He knew he nailed it. they were known as Blue eye soul. check out You lost that loving feeling. that was also in a movie Top Gun with Tom Cruise.
Okay, you all interrupt the climax of the song to talk about unrelated hair and makeup? That broke the vibe.
Brother BJ said this Badass Singer had Polished Look..... Great Reaction 🤵🏼
Everybody from every race loved these guys. They were even loved by Native Americans. You can’t beat blue eyed souls
Such pure talent!
Bobby Hatfield is singing this song,he had a great voice.RIP
One of the greatest of all time.
Why is she hating on a blue-eyed white man that is supremely talented? Hmm, I have no idea.....
I don’t think Asia is like that at all. I didn’t hear her saying anything bad. Trust I would of said something, but no her and BJ are good people!
This is why white people get so mad when black people call everybody racist we grew up on this wonderful music and we were just living our lives not being racist
🤔
I'm not hearing any hate. I heard her saying "I enjoyed this" et cetera. I do think she came across as obsessed with how he looked and whether he was wearing makeup and not like she was actually hearing one of the greatest male vocals of the past century. Which to me is a sad missed opportunity.
Please don't mistake cluelessness for intentional disrespect.
Ignorance😮
Bobby Hatfield owns this song no auto tune no computer enhancement
asia and bj..you are are delightful couple. infectious smiles. don't ever change. think about it. this melody is half century old. enjoy you youth while you can.
The voice of an angel in a pink suit.
You have heard the studio version before. This live 1965 tv (so yes, he's got makeup on) performance is killer.
You've lost that loving feeling
Imagine all the singers throughout history that we are not able to hear bc there was no way to record them!!! CRAZY!!!
that's the way he looked in real life. I've seen them in concert.
No auto tune back then just pure talent
I actually drove the equipment trailer for them on a leg of one of the tours. It really doesn't due justice, on video. They were a force onstage. Bob Hatfield, this singer, passed. Bill Medley is still around, last I knew.
