The tape with the instructions is an interesting piece of the choreography for the show. I imagine the real player behind the scene worked with him on figuring that out so everything would look as authentic as possible.
I agree, that is interesting. It takes a big set to go out and play a guitar in front of a huge audience when you and everyone else knows you don't know how to play guitar! Pretty obvious Lil Wayne isn't the nervous type!
If they set it up with a specific 'open tuning' then they could have made it so he could play part of the song just by completely BARRING all the stings, and just sliding up and down?
Agreed, I was watching earlier today when Twoodfrd mentioned he's repaired something like one Gibson head stock per month for the last ten years! I am always amazed when he takes a router to the head stock/neck joint...........amazing skill and experience.
@Deninno, Martin I was doing it all wrong! I always chose a white guitar so I could read my Sharpie notes scribbled on the neck! DOH, I never though of using white friction tape!
IMO if you put a new neck on it, you ruin the piece. I would rather see this in your museum displayed broken than re-necked. The tape with playing instructions is the most unique and collectable part about this guitar.
I think it’s actually a good break because you have a lot of surface area to work with. I think it’s much harder to fix a clean break because you don’t have a lot of surface area and you definitely need to add splines. The trick with this one is just to get it to line up properly when it’s re-glued. I don’t think you’re missing any wood I think all the wood is there.
Agreed. Since the Nut is still with the fingerboard alignment shouldn't be an issue. As long as the Nut is located the head stock alignment is less important. And yes, lots of surface area for the glue.

I have a Lil Wayne story. I am a big F1 (racing) fan. Over 10 years ago I was in Indianapolis for the race. Lewis Hamilton got pole that Saturday and we were at a steak house for dinner that evening. And to my surprise 10 feet to my left while we waited to get in was Lewis. I went over to meet him and congratulate him and on my way over a bodyguard threw me into Lewis. Making our meeting not so smooth. I don’t think Lewis was happy about me slamming into him. The bodyguard then told me to “give Wayne space”.
