All these Econ majors are going to be disappointed when they don’t get that 100k a year dream job right out of college. It’s a solid career path, but as a student of any major, you need to be realistic about your job perspectives right out of college and gain as many hard skills as possible before you graduate. I’m a CompSci major, but I started working on developing my portfolio my first semester of college. You need to be able to prove you can provide value to the organization if you want a good job. The degree will only get you so far.
Ooo so for Intro classes econ would be around 30-40 (like the 200 series) for the 100 series I think it could go up to 80?? But this is just for intro classes, most of the electives are much smaller - for data science the intro classes have around ~30 I think - they only made it a major this year so I think the number of students enrolling in classes will increase, but as of now data science classes are a lot smaller than econ!
Do they have applied mathematics, data science, and economics triple major at University of Chicago or not? That's the best kind of major, I think, in terms of salary after graduation!
@@asynchloe Why don't you add applied mathematics to your data science & economics? I think that will make you look even more attractive to employers after graduation, Chloe! P.S. You might well add some computer science courses like C++, Java, Python, etc.
@@asynchloe I think there's a huge potential to create a new major called Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, and Economics all rolled up into a BA or BS in 4-5 years? I believe this would be aimed at a permanent career path in one of the following areas (skipping the MBA): data science, investment banking, hedge funds, private equity, software engineering, quantitative trading, etc.!
