You don't have to derank to get some "chill" players sometimes, watch momo or supaalf for example, 1.000+ wins in a row and they were still meeting chill players.
Has smurfings definition changed? Maybe i use it differently. I always thought about smurfing as making a new account. Making sure its as low mmr as possible. Then bullying or throwing in matches to basically cause troll play. Either letting go on hook/afk killer or running killer for 5 gens/just destroying survivors. And you just keep going back and forth. Maybe this is a OW2 thing and thats how they used it. Because a smurf just doesnt like the game at their own intended skill level. So theyd rather be at a bottom level so they can just always feel like their strong.
@@ScottJund yeah that's just what I always thought of smurfing as. That's why I asked if there was a different definition that people use as what you were describing. I guess most terms like these can have different meanings. Google has the same definition apparently. "What is Smurfing in gaming? The term 'smurf' is used in gaming to describe a player in an online game that creates a new account to play against lower-ranked players, however, it can be used as an all-around term for describing a player who uses an alternate account or multiple accounts."
It's basically just manipulating the game so that you're playing against weaker players. Making a new account is just one of the easiest, if not THE easiest, way to do it.
The whole de-ranking discourse seems really stupid when you realize that MMR in this game is a joke. Honestly don't know why people make such a big deal about it when there is no ranked system.
fun fact though, you can message bhvr support and ask them to delete shards from your account and they will. I had a friends who did this because they didn't like the odd shard count from the April fools adam head. That said I don't think anyone would actually do this on a regular basis.
but even with this knowledge, otz plays off stream too sometimes idk how much, but he does and hes very open about it too streamers don't have to stream everytime they play a game
even with otz, the vast majority of his vods show the same iri shards. every once in a while he records a video and gets a level up but its the vast minority of the time. you have to play LOT of DBD for your shards to actually change at high player level

Your video is well-made for Twitch streams; that was also how I checked if streamers were smurfing in the past. For UA-cam, though, it’s a different story. You can just queue up with smurf accounts and get these beginner killers. Have experienced this just today with someone casually saying he will switch to his smurf account to have chill games. Went with it and it was night and day, with killers afking in the corner. As long as the content creators don't prove otherwise, I trust my eyes and game knowledge. All I see in these UA-cam videos are killers who are at a very low level, combined with anonymous mode (hidden names) and no endgame scoreboard.
I am fairly certain but I could be wrong but I thought they had a system where once you passed a certain level of mmr, you can not drop below it. It keeps the top tier players from deranking into lower skill lobbies
These are really great points you brought up. Now that you have exposed them with facts and logic the derankers are just going to hide the iri shard count. *_Adds more tinfoil to the hat_* But seriously this was a great way to show and explain how deranking just isn't really viable.
I haven't played much dbd lately but if streamers were deranking wouldn't there be a lot of people showing clips/images on reddit of killers just not playing with their names on end screen? Or saying they dominated X amazing streamer.
When did tanking your mmr become 'smurfing'? I don't think that term fits here. But yeah this is a way to find out if someones intentionally tanking their MMR. Nice video!
The thing is in all of those 5 gens chase videos, they don't even show builds after the game. Like if you have even smallest game knowledge you'll understand all of those videos are just smurfing.
What if you stream on a main account, and make edited youtube videos (that never show shards) playing on a smurf account? Not a wild idea considering anyone that's ever done a "start from scratch" style streak.
sure, that would be possible. with editing you can make anything possible. not really what im talking about as almost all content creators stream in addition to making videos
wasn't the entire argument about UA-cam videos and not streams to begin with? you dont need any editing to hide that you are smurfing, with anon mode and copying main account steam name no one could tell the difference unless im missing something.
is there like a cohesive video of whatever drama this is lol i keep hearing little jokes here and there, but idk whats going on. i am relatively new tho 500 ish hours.. so whats going on lol?
@@cesrai it applies because he's directing this towards "fellow content creators", all of whom who stream just as often, if not more often than they upload videos. Sure, you could still argue that "they only stream on their main account so it doesn't look suspicious" but that's still one serious allegation to make with absolutely no evidence to come alongside with it. Tru3 always says that people argue with "feelings and not logic" but then when starting this whole deranking debacle behaved himself in the exact same manner, being "irritated" (feelings) by things he can't even prove, as he has no evidence (logic).
i already saw people say, that deranking is not something worth proving because they tried to best killer builds and were not able to replicate the same results streamers get (4ks) and that proves "how many killer players are hacking"
people probably got that idea from cod where it's actually a thing people got caught doing, but they do not understand that mmr systems are very different in those two games
This is a discussion I didn't need and don't care. Now I wonder, how can you tell if their shards go lower because of their buying ? Because the shop is so expensive for these shards 21 000 for a cosmetic is a lot.
There is no way to check wether someone is or not using a secondary account for this kind of stuff, especially now that level is hidden due to the banner. But honestly, why care? I never undestood this whole "It's smurfing so bad content". For me it was always about "is it fun to watch".
You can debunk that "losing without changing iri shards" by just looking at the rest of the games till they get more iri shards to see if there is a difference of gaining shards from when they ended stream last time.
Aren't there different MMRs for different killers? One could in theory derank one killer or two killers a week and avoid playing them on stream to keep it going down. Very silly to do but in theory it could be possible. That person would then be in consideration by the entity as the next killer because they are clearly a psychopath.
And then you remember that DC exist and you can lower your MMR just by that. You not gain any iri chards or exp = you perfectly hide fact you lower your MMR (and if you get day or two off stream, your DC penalty also decreased and you can make your MMR even lower and also hide fact that you smurfing).
Smurfing might not work for a killer, but smurfing could work for a survivor main. You don't get much XP at all for running to the killer, getting hooked, then killing yourself on hook, because it's so quick.
Tru3 always cries he doesn't debate people because "they just argue with feelings and no logic" but then comes up with a wildly false concepts based on feelings and no logic and gets wrecked by people like Scott who brings facts and data to the table
to play devils advocate i recall tru3 technically never mentioned streamers (though he's heavily implied it with people doing winstreaks on stream etc). this video is about streamers so tru3 isn't necessarily relevant if he only mentioned youtubers

Scott this is under the assumption the person smurfing in general is a streamer. A lot of content on dbd UA-cam is just gameplay montages with just a username if that or such. Just videos of in game match gameplay. I don’t think anyone has said any streamer is smurfing. We can’t see that person iri shards or anything.
@@ScottJund What? Like why would anyone even say that, that’s just silly. Of course streamers who are experts in the game are going to go on win streaks because they’re know everything about the game. We wouldn't have to do all this sleuthing if Behaviour just *showed* us what our MMR was...like it was for the first 5 or whatever years of the game and how it's done in most other online multiplayer/competitive games to this day.
The only form of smurfing I could actually conceive in DbD is if people would constantly make new accounts. But the effort involved just isn't feasible as they would level up the mmr so quickly they'd constantly need new accounts.
you can use “tools” to make your account look like smurf or “legit” sadly. Bhvr does not prevent it or ban people who use it. Not defending or attacking anyone, just pointing it out. You can use a tool to look like a p100 while you have no p100’s for example. (Or having 10000 iri shards while you have 500 in reality)
yes you can look it up, tool's name starts with "F" I am not going to advertise it. If you want to learn more about it try to contact me and I can give more info.
also everyone forgets that if someone dodges the lobby the survivors get paired with anyone. even super low skilled baby killers. more often than not this is what is happening when you see someone loop fro 5 gens and get all that trolling content. they just got a baby killer because this game doesnt show your mmr and also pairs ppl with 2k hours with ppl with 100 hours.

All that work just to get spun by Quentin on the basement stairs
The anniversary chapter is adding The Smurfs?!
You don't have to derank to get some "chill" players sometimes, watch momo or supaalf for example, 1.000+ wins in a row and they were still meeting chill players.
I thought you was talking about monto for a second but nah it was just momo
Has smurfings definition changed? Maybe i use it differently. I always thought about smurfing as making a new account. Making sure its as low mmr as possible. Then bullying or throwing in matches to basically cause troll play. Either letting go on hook/afk killer or running killer for 5 gens/just destroying survivors. And you just keep going back and forth. Maybe this is a OW2 thing and thats how they used it. Because a smurf just doesnt like the game at their own intended skill level. So theyd rather be at a bottom level so they can just always feel like their strong.
i mean with new accounts its blatantly obvious because they have no iri shards, so no, that's not what people claim here.
@@ScottJund They also wouldn't have nearly anything unlocked despite playtime.
Making a new account is just one of the easiest, if not THE easiest, way to do it.
yeah smurfing was always about having an alt account.. So I'm not sure why not just put "de-ranking" or "dropping MMR" somewhere in the title.
The whole de-ranking discourse seems really stupid when you realize that MMR in this game is a joke. Honestly don't know why people make such a big deal about it when there is no ranked system.
Problem is people like Tru3 think MMR is not a joke and think they are absolute top MMR
This is the exact kind of video a smurf would make to cover their tracks
Great video Scooter, unfortunately (based off some of these comments) the brain worm epidemic in the DBD community appears to be continuing unabated.
I laugh at the thought of some person booting up DBD just to AFK farm iri shards due to having to do literally nothing to earn them.
fun fact though, you can message bhvr support and ask them to delete shards from your account and they will.
He would have to play a TON off stream to get his MMR below the soft cap
even with otz, the vast majority of his vods show the same iri shards. every once in a while he records a video and gets a level up but its the vast minority of the time. you have to play LOT of DBD for your shards to actually change at high player level
@@ScottJund yeah no doubt there, the whole deranking mmr thing drama thing is just so silly... that you even had to make this video is kinda sad but people will grasp onto anything to justify why they loose their games and streamers with thousands of hours don't (as much)
@@johnwarner4178 I hope I my comment doesn't comes across like I think otz or any streamer is deranking, this whole discussion of deranking that tru3 set ablaze again is really dumb if you ask me...
@@trtl1083 imo the bigger problem is people making assumptions on social media..
tru3 doesn't name-drop people because that's not a good thing to do, so people keep making assumptions to convince themselves that people they already didn't like must be doing these things tru3 is talking about.
He hasn't started any of this - people simply picked up what he said and twisted it into all these different meanings because they can't sit still.. Everyone needs to talk about and guess the streamers he is talking about..
But scott, how do we know the player level and shards havent been digitally altered?
Or you just do a steam epic store swap. 🤷🏼♂️ Does that still happen? (I play on console.)
Its crazy that you had to make this video to prove this bc of all the uproar recently lmao
I shudder to think about what made you make this video
I got accused of smurfing once just because i did well in chase, even though i was using a piece of legacy and had 1k hours on my account
I am fairly certain but I could be wrong but I thought they had a system where once you passed a certain level of mmr, you can not drop below it. It keeps the top tier players from deranking into lower skill lobbies
How do many people have so many shards and not spend them? I would go to town with many cosmetics if I had that many shards.
These are really great points you brought up. Now that you have exposed them with facts and logic the derankers are just going to hide the iri shard count. *_Adds more tinfoil to the hat_*
But seriously this was a great way to show and explain how deranking just isn't really viable.
I haven't played much dbd lately but if streamers were deranking wouldn't there be a lot of people showing clips/images on reddit of killers just not playing with their names on end screen? Or saying they dominated X amazing streamer.
There's only really two words for someone claiming people who perform better than them are 'deranking'.
Those words are 'skill issue'.
then scotts wife must be lacking tons of skill cause she got caught numerous times deranking even on stream.
Accusing someone of surfing implies that match making works in any capacity...
I was wondering if he is Scott but luckily he confirmed it at the beginning.
What if you stream on a main account, and make edited youtube videos (that never show shards) playing on a smurf account? Not a wild idea considering anyone that's ever done a "start from scratch" style streak.
sure, that would be possible. with editing you can make anything possible. not really what im talking about as almost all content creators stream in addition to making videos
wasn't the entire argument about UA-cam videos and not streams to begin with? you dont need any editing to hide that you are smurfing, with anon mode and copying main account steam name no one could tell the difference unless im missing something.
is there like a cohesive video of whatever drama this is lol i keep hearing little jokes here and there, but idk whats going on. i am relatively new tho 500 ish hours.. so whats going on lol?
there is, easy to find it's how true became the laughing stock
another banger video from my favorite dbd drama youtuber
I've never accused anyone of deranking, but when I see some questionable plays it makes me wonder how they match up.
thats the nature of mmr and the match making system. you can have players with 500 hours or less in a lobby with a player with 5k hours or more
thats so ✨tru3✨
😂😂
Scott has talent for sure. True talent
He talkes about new accounts for smurfing so this doesn't apply
Lmao 😂
@@cesrai it applies because he's directing this towards "fellow content creators", all of whom who stream just as often, if not more often than they upload videos. Sure, you could still argue that "they only stream on their main account so it doesn't look suspicious" but that's still one serious allegation to make with absolutely no evidence to come alongside with it. Tru3 always says that people argue with "feelings and not logic" but then when starting this whole deranking debacle behaved himself in the exact same manner, being "irritated" (feelings) by things he can't even prove, as he has no evidence (logic).
6:40 unless you’re talking about true talent this man has like a .4 kill rate it’s crazy
What if they just
Spent iri shards in between streams?
i already saw people say, that deranking is not something worth proving because they tried to best killer builds and were not able to replicate the same results streamers get (4ks) and that proves "how many killer players are hacking"
people probably got that idea from cod where it's actually a thing people got caught doing, but they do not understand that mmr systems are very different in those two games
I wonder if true would react to this so he can understand that sbmm is trash and smurfing is almost impossible
Bro get laid. Ur everywhere and also u can Smurf lol ur definitely a child
? just compare iri shards. those are always visible. if its an edited youtube video obviously this no longer applies
I feel like the only people who need to hear this isn't going to watch or listen
Also I love hens he's just a silly lil guy :]
That person would then be in consideration by the entity as the next killer because they are clearly a psychopath.
yes but they are closely bound to your highest mmr killer so you cant cheese the system like that
i have a smurf account on familyshare, its great because i can share all the iri shards and auric cells with a new account (with the dlc.)
Scott does not avoid smoke 😂😂😂

They can accuse people of smurfing
Or they can just like
Look at their bp and iri shard count for 6 seconds
You can check devotion levels too
And then you remember that DC exist and you can lower your MMR just by that. You not gain any iri chards or exp = you perfectly hide fact you lower your MMR (and if you get day or two off stream, your DC penalty also decreased and you can make your MMR even lower and also hide fact that you smurfing).
you would reach a day long ban long before you even dropped 100 mmr dude
My favorite part was when Scott said "let's assume the worst"
Scott masterminding this so he can Smurf off stream
Smurfing might not work for a killer, but smurfing could work for a survivor main. You don't get much XP at all for running to the killer, getting hooked, then killing yourself on hook, because it's so quick.
Tru3 always cries he doesn't debate people because "they just argue with feelings and no logic" but then comes up with a wildly false concepts based on feelings and no logic and gets wrecked by people like Scott who brings facts and data to the table
Tru3 has been like that since 2016, You'd think he'd grow up by now lol
@@minty3528At this point, I feel like it's his schtick. A tru3 stream without whingeing just wouldn't be a tru3 steam.
to play devils advocate i recall tru3 technically never mentioned streamers (though he's heavily implied it with people doing winstreaks on stream etc). this video is about streamers so tru3 isn't necessarily relevant if he only mentioned youtubers

I always spend my iri shards, so I always have little to no iri shards, but think devotion is the best way to tell.
I think the only smurfs are people who get banned from cheats/exploits and maybe a few regular players.
Careful Scott:
The Wiki entry only tells you much MMR you can GAIN in a match, not how much you can lose.
I still agree with the rest of the video though, and I might be wrong about it, I just saw what you showed here.
while true there is no reason to assume it would work in some other fashion in reverse.
@@ScottJund I agree! I just pointed it out cause it's a potential flaw in the argumentation that ppl will use to "prove you wrong"
Scott this is under the assumption the person smurfing in general is a streamer. A lot of content on dbd UA-cam is just gameplay montages with just a username if that or such. Just videos of in game match gameplay. I don’t think anyone has said any streamer is smurfing. We can’t see that person iri shards or anything.
do you know how many streaks from killers are invalidated because theyre "smurfing"? i hear that shit ALL the time
@@ScottJund What? Like why would anyone even say that, that’s just silly. Of course streamers who are experts in the game are going to go on win streaks because they’re know everything about the game. That’s just dumb, the only people who seem like they’re smurfing on the no name, low viewer UA-cam channels that only post bullying the killer videos. You’d have be a complete idiot to think streamers who display their skill everyday are smurfing.
@@FractionsofInfinity895 i mean yeah i agree
Once you are above 1600 MMR you can't get lower, so even if you would derank, it would not have the effect you desire.
This is very interesting but I feel like I have to be angry for you for making me fall down the rabbit hole of what prompted the creation of this video when I was living in such blissful ignorance before
Spoken like a true smurfer.
There are so many flaws to this argument i can’t believe he uploaded this video
say the flaws instead of being dramatic
As soon as you started doing mmr math my brain short circuited.
We wouldn't have to do all this sleuthing if Behaviour just *showed* us what our MMR was...like it was for the first 5 or whatever years of the game and how it's done in most other online multiplayer/competitive games to this day.
I don't know anything about how this whole smurfing conversation started, but I already know it was by Tru3. Anything dumb starts from him.
The only form of smurfing I could actually conceive in DbD is if people would constantly make new accounts. But the effort involved just isn't feasible as they would level up the mmr so quickly they'd constantly need new accounts.
Vile Scott returns
I always buy skins as soon as I have enough iridescent shards, goddamn, I wish I had as many as you :')

you can use “tools” to make your account look like smurf or “legit” sadly. Bhvr does not prevent it or ban people who use it. Not defending or attacking anyone, just pointing it out.
You can use a tool to look like a p100 while you have no p100’s for example. (Or having 10000 iri shards while you have 500 in reality)
Do you have proof of that?

also everyone forgets that if someone dodges the lobby the survivors get paired with anyone. even super low skilled baby killers. more often than not this is what is happening when you see someone loop fro 5 gens and get all that trolling content. they just got a baby killer because this game doesnt show your mmr and also pairs ppl with 2k hours with ppl with 100 hours.
