- I have been building up my dream mid school BMX bike for the past year and it is looking amazing! In todays video I got a new part to put on it and I also decided to share with you all the inspiration for building up this bike by going over Rick Moliterno's section in the 2000 video "Standard Country" Rick has always been one of the best to ever do it and I. have been a big fan since I was a kid!
Standard Byke Co www.standardbyk...
CAN'T SLOW DOWN Shirts Here! www.cantslowdow...
Your one of the greatest riders to ever step foot on a bike ..🙏
Great video Scotty! Rick is still shredding. I have the second part in standard country. Haven’t seen it in almost 20 years. Those clips brought back memories.
Old guy here. Standards were my absolute favorite in that time frame. Rick is still shredding and in my opinion, still building some of the best frames in bmx. I've ridden a few modern models in the past 10 years. The 250L is perfection.
Pleeeeease, mid-school videos. I'm 43 and thinking about getting back into bmx for physical fitness. Mid-school would Amp up some fun old school vibes.
Same, just posted a old video myself if you're interested 😎💪👍 I'm 47
Go for it my man!I started again dirt at 41!
Just start riding my guy!
I felt the same way a few years back, got a bike and 2 months later i torn acl. Haha just be careful
Subscribe to snakebite BMX, it's Shad Johnson's channel, it's more mid-school than a haro blammo...
I picked up a new standard trailboss. Such a sick frame especially with the classic gusset
You building this bike reminds me of the BMX Plus issues with the dream bike of the year or whatever they called it and it was always a hodge podge of the best parts of the year.
Great memories! Watching Rick ride Rampage skatepark back then was always a great time. Never got old watching all of his unique nose tricks dropping back in fakie revert. Extremely talented and humble dude!
Scotty is in his happy place. He was definitely getting nostalgic feelings with those grips, you could see it in his face. It's truly amazing what you see in old BMX videos. The riding that those guys pulled off led to all the design tweaks you see in modern bikes. Never forget the roots. Awesome stuff Scotty.
Rick is so good. That way he hangs out the rear wheel. 🤌🏻🤌🏻
Bmx museum is the best place to find Bmx parts online ❤
Fact!
Mid-school is the best school
You should go more into depth how box has changed, especially on the competitive side. Like finding some old AFA parts where it was flatland, 8 foot x8foot quarter pipe with a wedge ramp. I remember my dad taking me and the crew down to Austin, TX to see a few comps. I loved watch Molinterno, Scotty Freeman, Mike Dominguez… man or maybe some where r they now. Crazy stuff. Thanks for all you do to keep BMX alive.
I'm 40. I still ride this same exact frame from the year 2000. I love it. I've taken some breaks, but It still feels like home when I hope on it and bust out some feebles and Cruz around
Rick Moliterno is a serious legend. I had iron cross grips back in the day and eventually even had a pair of your signature grips from Duo, I had a few different pairs from them but have only used Odi Longnecks for the last 15 years or so.
Keep being you scotty I love to see you keep making progress. Keep doing what you love and people may come and go but stay you stay original.
Scotty is such an awesome and wholesome guy. Has such a love for BMX and is one of the greatest riders to ever do it. Love watching these videos man.
We need to see Matty try a 60/40 grind
Such a cool bike, I had a similar idea a while back but with computers, I saw an super old video card on marketplace new in box, and I was thinking how nostalgic it would be to build a "new" computer from the 90s or early 2000s.
Anyway, love seeing stuff like this, the smile on Scotty's face is golden.
Scotty, I remember rolling in with my first gen DB... Right into Mom's bathroom!! Snagged her AquaNet can and sprayed the inside of my nice new Oakley grips and slid em on. Mom was perplexed at the move! Next time that little buddy of mine needed new grips, a razor blade was required. At that point in my love for BMX, all I rode was natural. my bike had allergies to tarmac and concrete!! Today, I ride a stock comp trials bike or my RSD Middlechild. Crown Park, El Jebel, Colorado is one of the tracks I take the Middlechild on and race my friends. Singlespeeds only!
Dude, kids don’t even know…that whole video was so good, but Rick’s part was like a statement, and it still holds up
Rick is such a talented rider and overall nice dude in person. He is a rather good size guy as well more so then ol Husky Nation lead founder Spencer but you'd never know woth what he can do on a bike that those in better physical shape can't. Always said would be crazy had he gotten in great shape and lost some heft how much better he'd be.
Totally... Seems weird, but the first time I saw Broc ride, I thought it was just fit Rick 😆 He would've been light years ahead
Definitely A cool BMX Street Time Machine.. I'll always Remember the Good ol days riding bikes Skate boards, got to ride with some pro bikers in S.A. and watching Scotty rip it with the most insane New tricks never seen or done in the comps Respect...always watching with my brothers on Tv.. kept out of trouble most of the Time..
This is one of my favorite videos ever, I still watch it but I have to bust out the VCR to watch it.... Yeah I know, I'm old. 😂
O yeah and if you are interested, I have a gray and black Primo Hemorrhoid seat that would fit this bike a lot better... 😁👍
Edit: Please watch all of Standard Country, it's such an awesome video and I feel like a lot of kids will never see it unless someone puts it in a video... There are so many good riders and tricks in this video, IMO it's still a banger to this day. I feel only pride in my generation of riders.... 😊👏👏
John Heatons part in the McNeil video where he does the flair to pegs on the giant sub box! Mental!
My childhood grips as well! I loved em!
I enjoy when you break down video parts. Its not a video part but I would say maybe Road Fools 7, thats a classic. Every time I watch that on youtube it brings me back to being a kid again
Love ya Scotty! Hope your whole fam is doing well! Keep grinding brother!
I saw him at rays recently, still shreds!
Thanks for bring this to my attention scotty. I always was and still am heavily in to riding street so I would mainly watch the gonz section in this video. I never fully appreciated ricks stuff. I’d love to see you do a video on the gonz. He truly was a pioneer in street riding. I took my brakes off in 2000 because of him. Even Edwin delarosa had him down as an inspiration. The guy was an enigma. He was weird as hell but that also came out in his riding making him so original. I doubt many street riders these days know what he done to shape how we ride today.
I really used to enjoy standard country, and I agree Rick’s part is really good
Back then to midschool we used to have a huge community here!So many riders every week at street,dirt,ramps...Great menories of a great era!
WOW. You've brought me down memory lane ❤. I've had so many different brands over 50yrs. My Standard was a favorite 😍 (used to race on it as well). Turned some heads, sitting at the gate ready to throw down on the track 😂.
I bought an STA in 2000. The frame was a metalic blue 1998 frame. I loved that bike soo much.
Just fixed up my old next generation Holmes from 2001 that I bought back in high school. Getting back to riding bmx when I’m not on my dirt bike.
Most under rated rider. 80s AApro racer turned Hutch trick team, Haro team , to one of a handful of pioneers of mid school riding and obviously Midschool design. Still riding like that at almost 60. Watch Standard Style Catz. Or Baco 5
seeing those grips was nostalgic. i used to have those on my first bmx!
man, that was my absolute favourite era of bmx
Etnies grounded! 51 here still riding props from the UK Scotty 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I was ten at the time standard country came out, I was a gigantic street riding fan, and was a gigantic luc-e fan. Always played as him on dave mirra bmx freestyle.
Keep the midschool stuff coming bro, more more more, parts you own, parts you used to use back in the day etc
This reminded me of when i almost bought a yellow Standard Cashius frame!
Standard country had such a good vibe!
Rick is awesome, so are you! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Rick’s “Team JV” part is really good too. It’s from the same era.
This dig dug?
Yes sir!
DMCs part in Nachos is one of my all time favorites and i would love to see it or anything else from Nachos covered
tight bike Scotty!
Standard is hands down the best. I have 2 250l’s in the garage.
I rode rampage a few times in the early 2000s. Great video. I currently ride a modern STA 500
I have a 125r and I love that thing, rides great
I rode a Bully Dirt when I was growing up, I felt like a badass with those thicc frame bars
Great video. I'd love to hear you break down more mid school videos and history of bmx and such.
Sick build so far 🤘
Very cool video. I'm sure I owned ever one of those parts on that bike at some point in my riding career. I used to ride with a lot of those guys from Standard. I still have my last bike build from when I used to ride. It's a Volume Helion from 2000, just a year after they were established.
I got a standard 250 in my basement with odyssey hazard rims, snafu 3 piece cranks, and s&m pitch forks. That bike was a tank, it took me forever to get used to a new school bike when I switched over lol.
I remember those grips. This whole bike makes me feel old haha
Wow, what an awesome style he has. All the nose pick tricks were super flashy.
Standard country is a classic video I’ve got it on VHS 📼 👍🚲💨
TALK ABOUT LITTLE DEVIL ... Those videos inspired alot of riders❤
Siccc Bike reminds me of my childhood BMX is the best
I wish i would habe kept more of my old parts as a kid. I still have my highly modified S&M dirt jumper frame. Once butted tubing and better quality/highly CNC'd aluminum parts came out, it seems like things haven't changed a whole lot aside from bigger bars and better freecoasters. My two 15 year old parts bmx bikes look and feel pretty similar to whats out there today. Of course i stopped riding them super hard a long time ago so they're still in decent shape.
The Scum 1201 video set the bar high with breakthrough in tricks and great filming quality
The frame design and polished rims remind me of my haro backtrail XO nyquist edition.
Lets try and get matty to do 540 to ice pick to fakie, add variations 🤔
Love from the U.K scotty always! ✌️
Still got my Standard strip 2 piece bars in 9” rise 🔥👍🚲💨
I love it,I'll ride anything with air in the tyres 😅 ,55 near and i still get a rush going 30mph down a slope on the Hardtail MARIN ❤ 🇬🇧🇺🇸👌🤟,it gets you out in nature and bikes are awesome to wrench on/buy absolutely everything for it just BECAUSE 😅,and buying TYRES 👍
Maybe do a break down on fuzzy hall..
Definitely would want to see more breakdowns
Do Chris Doyle's "Wide Awake Nightmare" part or Stevie Hamilton's "Can I Eat?"
Way underrated rider for sure!!
I have a pair of those grips brand new somewhere around here, I never got round to using them and haven't rode for almost 20 years.
van homan's video part probably my all time favorite. was so insanely epic when it was released. I think it was the little devil video? or fbm? so long I can't even remember. the one with the insane rail ride
Video Challenge Idea - give Matty 4 hours to recreate one of your old videos, or at least a few tricks!
Anthem II 🙏 either favorite parts or across several videos!
I love the nostalgia. My bike is like, top tier parts from 2010ish Fit benny L frame/profile cranks/profile mini hubs/gsport rims/Madera stem/kink human bars/ odi supersoft grips & odyssey pc pedals, I havnt ridden in years.. So im ordering a new headset / bottom bracket and gunna get it dialed and go ride this spring (NEED BRAKE RECOMMENDATIONS) not sure what rear U-brake to order 🤒
Mostly just wanna see you riding Scott thats the best
Those STA 500'S WAS HEAVY AS HELL
But i still own the Standard country video!!
I raced a STANDARD 125-R When i raced back in the 90's still have that bike too
You should do the little devil criminal mischief video. I love the Standard STA500 frame I’ve wanted it since like 2002 .
Man i use to love those t-1 bars they were so comfy back in the day… they bent like a pretzel tho when u bailed off the bike.. i took more lumps than i shoulda tryin to save countless pairs of those bars on wrecks lmao
Need to get Matty to do that front wheel wall tap (at 5:24). That dude you're showing is insane with his balance.
You should check out Heavy Metal Heroes. It was a dirt, park, vert mini ramp and flatland comp held in Beenleigh Qld. Some of the best riders ever, Corey Bohan, Ryan Guettlar, Colin Mackay, Dave dilleward, Nick Cooper and Mykel Perko Perkins are just a few of the boys. It's midschool as heck it's grimy the jumps are big and rough, the vert ramp was old and sketchy but guys were still destroying it.
I remember them grips I had a old dk with them on it now I ride a early 2000s felt
Scotty would love for you to see my build that is 45 years old. In Fort Lauderdale
Have you ever talked to aaron ross before? Curious to see your relationship with him. You both were huge idols to me and still are. Much love scotty! Keep up the hard work!!
I want to see what happens to your disc brake wheel. Seeing you on a bike even just rolling around is always good. How to's you're always good at.
Standard 99 Euro Tour is my all time favourite bmx edit. But shout out to Luc-E on Standard country. He was way ahead of his time.
DK Vice grips were so good
Loved this video
You should try to break down Paul Osicka's part from Standard Country.
Vice Grips wear in so nice
Those vice grips used to TEAR Up my hands.
If anything midschool is probably growing. There are some young dudes on IG with a brake or two, shredding. Not to mention a bunch of older midschool killers still at it.
Sup Scotty!!!
Yes! More mid school!
I also loved them dk grips
Sickkkk bike. Love it
dude that is such a sick build! i’d love to see a video breakdown of the old schwinn american muscle or the first fox- expendable youth vid. any part from either 🤘🏼
I would love to see break downs of the Props Road fools videos!!!
I pour 91% alcohol into the grip, swirl it around an the grip slides right on.
To adjust, I slide the rubber-coated t-handle from a tiny Allen wrench between the bar/grip and add a splash of alcohol. Twist it where you want it to stay and walk away. No residue. Same process for removal. They slide in and out like a lady that's really ready for you.
Scotty Can you break down Dave Osato Evolution Ten Pack 2004
Probably around 1985 or 86, my neighbor had a Standard BMX race bike. Was that the same company?
I used to ride Standart Lengthy at 00!
