@@shanehudson3995really enjoying FF7 remake and rebirth. But Yeah nothing compares to that run from 6-10. If you want something that captures that vibe definitely play Sea of Stars.
I didn't know they changed the names of all the moves in later versions post-SNES. I like _fun_ Final Fantasy more than fancy FF. It needs to be Fun and Fancy-Free Final Fantasy.
I preferred the SNES translation of this game over the newer accurate ones. It had some great lines that I felt made later versions comparatively boring. I usually prefer the newer translations due to the old ones being just plain bad, so this was an odd one.
For those wondering, the reason I didn't put in any "input difficulty" ranking into these is because of a small little quirk to it. You don't need to hit diagonals but just hit an extra cardinal direction. Ex Aura Cannon is down, down left, left. But you can do this in two different ways. Pushing Down Down Left, or Down Left Left and completely avoid the diagonal. Especially since the SNES was very terrible at reading diagonals and why this is a better option. It wasn't as common as I thought so putting a header comment here
ATB and Input difficulty/wasted time on low % inputs was why Aura Cannon was my go-to about 75% of the time. IIRC, muscle memory going to certain spells and abilities (like Edgar's Chainsaw) also determined most of my attacks, spells and abilities.
I used pummel alot because it was the easiest to get the controller to consistently read correctly. I knew it would work every time. Later in the game pummel can easily do capped damage. (You're probably raising your magic and strength with your lvl ups.) This makes completely unnecessary to use bumrush, when it's just overkill.
This is my absolute favorite character. He can get a great double hit and high on attack. He's got a good story for his background and is very fitting for the story.
There are still a lot of people who don't know about the alternate input method for the diagonals, but that is definitely my preferred method over the more traditional fighting game style inputs.
Lol i had an interesting experience with Sabin! I was getting my ass kicked by powerful monsters and decided to try a new Blitz. The description just said "the ultimate sacrifice". All but him were dead so when i managed to get it right he turned into a tornado killing him instantly and i lost LMAO!
I'm lucky I was a Street Fighter Player as I had little difficulty with the original inputs for Sabin's Blitzes. Also Aura Bolt is fantastic in an low level game
@@Bdewd I also feel the version of FF6 you're playing will make a big impact as it got a big buff with the 2014 mobile port that carried into the pixel remaster.
In the OG FF6, sabin was always my healer. Stick tritoch on him for 20 lvs for a nice boost to his aurabolt, flame dance blitz. He comes with chakra that can heal the party really good for zero MP and with 9999hp thats pretty much a curaga for free
Happy to see Rising Phoenix pretty high up on this list. It was one of my favorites to use. And I approve of the name Phoenix being used in the later versions. 😜 Honestly, I had a feeling I knew what number 1 was going to be, and I agree. Won’t spoil it in the comments, but yeah, so good for such a long stretch of the game. Another great list, my dewd!
Sabin has always been one of my favorite characters. And how many games let you suplex a train. But yeah, Aura Cannon was always my go to for consistent damage.
Phantom Rush's "Accessibility" is a bit odd. Yeah it's gotten somewhat late. But if gotten at the earliest opportunity, it's the strongest attack you'll have at that point (by quite a wide margin). Phantom Rush makes taking on the Storm Dragon on the first visit viable (although risky). Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.
About that since you can't KILL intangirs instantly the ONLY way I could damage them by MORE then 500 PER attack IN the first half of the game IS to have Sabin at lv 70 in order to USE 9999 damage Phantom Rushes on it if you LIVE long enough for 4 turns to kill it WITH it stop however doesn't LAST for 4 turns though when used on those.
Another thing that lowers Suplex and Raging Fist is that Sabin is optimized, despite being the most muscular character, by increading his Magic stat with Espers when he levels. Your top 4 are all based on spell power, imagine the damage with Sabin having caster stats. My Wind Blade was usually 6000+.
Gotta agree with your list overall, Aura Bolt was always my favorite both in terms of how much use I got out of it and it being the coolest ability. FF6 (3) came out in America close to when DBZ started airing so it felt like you were doing a Kahmehameha.
Coming from the fighting game side of things, I saw the motion to activate it when I bought it in 1994, and immediately thought "Hadouken". Knowledge of DBZ in the states was forthcoming, but games like Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, Samurai Shodown (and a host of others) were already here and lighting up in arcades. I miss those days.
There are really only four Blitzes worth using: Aura Bolt, Fire Dance, Air Blade, and Bum Rush. I've gone entire playthroughs using only those ones other than Suplexing the train and Pummel when the game makes you.
I slept on Aura cannon as a kid. 30 yrs later I'm playing it again and Aura Cannon has been my most used blitz. Really helpful in the esper cave when all I had was a poison and fire claw of which many enemies there were immune or absorbed, plus it can one shot the fossil dragons
Frankly, outside of Spiraler (Soul Spiral) and the redundancy of Suplex (Meteor Strike), every single Blitz is useful at different points in the game, culminating with the god-tier attack that is Bum Rush. He's such a power house of a character, and recruited so early on too. As a personal aside, Sabin is the #1 reason why I wish Monk class characters were great in tabletop RPGs (but end up being crap 99% of the time). He's in that sweet spot of powerful/awesome just before reaching the cringe threshhold of 'Gary Stu' (aka, Goku Syndrome, or Superman Syndrome from the pre-anime era).
I don't use Aura Cannon so I went to the mirror and asked myself "why" :D I have to say one downfall to usefulness with Aura Cannon is that it is single targeting. I think at least 80% of the time you are going to be in a multi-enemy battle so Rising Phoenix or Gale Cutter would be more beneficial in the fight that Aura Cannon.
yep all the single target random enemy target blitzes feel completely obsoleted by Flame dance. its just too easy to full clear groups for 0 MP or combo'd with one of Edgar's AOE tools if not strong enough.
Having played the SNES version so many times throughout my life and the other releases except the Pixel Remaster maybe once each, these names still feel weird to me. Pummel, Suplex, Mantra, Fire Dance, Air Blade, Spiraler, Aura Bolt and Bum Rush are just burned into my brain. Especially being that Sabin is always in my party when available.
Chakra is ridiculously useful if you like natural magic runs. Your healing is so limited when you don't use espers to learn magic. If you're like me and like the challenge natural magic runs give you, it's definitely higher on the list
id put chakra (mantra) higher since its extremely useful in a few situations where you have a limited party. if youre insane and grind early its useful in opera house but the two biggest places it shines are floating continent- on the fights immediately leading up to it, and after [redacted] leaves the party and youre running on a timer and in the beginning of world of ruin, pre airship, where your party is super limited
To boost the damage of physical abilities, there are the Hero Ring or Atlas Armlet, yes! But there is also the Hyper Wrist that will multiply your Strength ability by 1.5. With both together, if I'm not mistaken, that's a x2.25 damage boost. I usually put them on Edgar in early game and go to town with AutoCrossbow.
Not quite how the damage calculations work. Strength is factored in very early on in the damage calculation, and increasing your strength value by 50% increases your overall damage output by about 1.10x-1.20x depending on your level and attack power. The Atlas Armlet modifies your final damage output (after all other calculations are done) by a flat 1.25 multiplier. With both equipped you're looking at about a ~1.46x damage multiplier over normal damage. For a level 30 character with 150 weapon power and 50 vigor, you're looking at close to 1550 damage before damage variation and defense is accounted for. With the hyper wrist the damage goes to about 1800, and with the hyper wrist and atlas armlet both equipped you're at about 2250. I've rounded the numbers a bit, but you get the idea.
I really liked Using Sabin in combination with my favorite weapon/relic combo which can be pulled off as early as the floating continent escape (can only be used by Celes, Locke, Terra, or Edgar) so you can either get the Genji glove from the returners hideout or The Esper gate dungeon, and you can steal the blood sword from the boss before Celes leaves the party in the magitek factory. Then steal the ultima weapon from the ultima weapon boss on floating continent. Pair these weapons with ultima in the off hand with Genji glove to basically shred non-undead enemies. But in the case of undead, Sabin can take out most undead enemies with Rising Phoenix or Aura cannon
7:29 This reminds me of my last FFIII play through about 7 years ago. When you go into Kefka's Tower at the end I slapped a moogle charm on a solo Mog and ran into the Goddess. I don't think you can vanish/doom her so I think that was the end of my run because Mog was like level 30 or something.
Sabin's blitzes are odd because they rely on good magic stats, and our Train-Suplexing man & a half is all about strength. I like your video, it's a good exercise. Taking into account when I unlocked them in casual playthroughs, and learning a lot about Blitz mechanics from randomizers, here's my ranking. I'm writing this down now before watching your vid. 1. AuraBolt/Aura Cannon (Blitz 2) - The work horse. Great when you need to exploit Pearl/Holy weaknesses, which is almost everyone. Relies on Magic. 2. Mantra/Chakra (Blitz 5) - Healz plz, also removes Blind, Poison, Mute, Sap. Useful if you don't have much healing magic, just heal Sabin instead. 3. Bum Rush/Phantom Rush (Blitz 8) - Single Target Ultima. Really good assuming you didn't grind the real Ultima spell. Relies on Magic. 4. Pummel/Raging Fist (Blitz 1) - Never forget it, it'll save your bacon when you need autohit and defense piercing. Relies on Strength. 5. Suplex/Meteor Strike (Blitz 3) - Deals more damage when there's only 1 enemy, most bosses are immune unfortunately. But of course you're going to try. Relies on Strength. 6. Fire Dance/Rising Phoenix - AoE fire damage. Low due to Sabin's magic stat, otherwise it would be really good when you unlock it. Relies on Magic. 7. Air Blade/Razor Gale - AoE Wind damage, reliable but at this point magic users start to take over. Relies on Magic. 8. Spiraler/Soul Spiral (Blitz 7) - lol, your punishment for forgetting Mantra and hitting the wrong buttons.
the magic stat thing sorta relies on putting double earrings on sabin but his magic stat is only 1 lower than edgar's, so fire dance and air blade can do some meaningful damage early which is pretty cool. i do like your list tho
@@Bdewd Just equip him with +2 magic on level up espers until he's at 128 magic, then drop the earrings and still dish out 9999's on air blade. Easy peasy.
I mostly agree with bum rush on availability but I have to protest it only getting an 8. I feel like it should at least be 9 though I would definitely give it a 10
Its lower than 9 or 10 since you didn't get to use it for about half the game which makes it less useful cuz you didn't have it essentially. It can't be useful if it wasn't around
I think that's about right about Sabin's Blitz abilities. I'm not entirely sure about Phantom Rush and Rising Phoenix though. Maybe both of them are tied for second place.
My only swap would be #1 and #2, while aura cannon is great, rising phoenixs aoe is a hard carry for most of the early game. Although I'm a bit of a grinder, so i have lvl 15 before i pick up Cyan.
the blitzes are always exceptionally difficult to do. because i cant do the key presses accurately, since i have to be fast. so, i just make him use aurabolt all game. its basically the only blitz i use.
Geez, that would be crazy. It would be cool to do a top 10 of it at least, as most of them were trash. My personal favori was the giant robot called IO.
*pst* i like the old names as well but figure with the newer games and generation i should go with the new names so there's less confusion on what's what haha
i remember the snes version "bum rush" i laugh every time my friend used it (WHEN HE COULD). he always handed me the controller to input the steps. he had like 3/10 chance, where i had a 9/10 chance. it was also fun watching him fail and die XD
instead of using the diagonals, just push an extra cardinal direction instead! Ex Aura Cannon is down, down left, left. But you can do this in two different ways. Pushing Down Down Left, or Down Left Left and completely avoid the diagonal! it makes life soooooooo much easier :D
Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but couldn't you learn the blitzes early in the original SNES if you knew the button inputs? Bum rush had to be learned from Duncan, but any other blitz was available at any time, if you knew the button sequence. Learning it by level just taught you the button sequence. That's how I remember it, but that was 30 years ago, so...
Chakra/Mantra should be much higher, especially on first runs. Literally the best healing ability for a non-magic character, he even addressed the status effects it covers.
I would only disagree on aurabolt, put that behind mantra and we good. fire dance is indeed underated, its probably the blitz i use the most till we get air blade, it falls off a bit before you get air blade saddly
Hell no I don’t agree with your incorrect opinion. Switch Aura bolt with bum rush and switch fire dance with gale cut and you’ll have a correct list. There I fixed it.
Sabin is weird because his stats are geared towards strength/physical but most of his blitzes are based off the magic stat. You need to build around that with espers, or things like earrings. Also Sabin is bad for the coliseum because he can kill himself with Soul Spiral and lose the fight.
not having played the game since the late 90's on emulator, the names are all foreign to me. xD i think Raging fist was called Pummel, and Phantom rush was called Bum Rush.
that is correct. as much as i love the snes names, i figured the updated names were the better option due to new player base coming in from the pixel remasters
Exactly but I forgot it Slots Setzer can be used because if it can you risk him using the Joker Doom version that can kill Setzer not the enemies OR have it land on the 3 bar summon ONLY to have it summon Crusader killing Setzer even at lv 99 in the process.
I keep getting thrown when I try to watch these videos because everyone uses the later revised names for enemies, blitzes, spells, etc. I guess time has passed me by, but I still play my 1994 Final Fantasy 3.
Nope, Suplex may have a lot of limitations but when you can get it hit at max potential, it is his strongest single target attack until Bum Rush. Contrary to what some believe, most bosses are not immune to Suplex, but yes, you gotta know which are immune. It's fairly intuitive which ones are through, which is why Doom Train is such a meme, cuz it looks like it should be immune. How strong it is depend on your play style, as it scales better than the other Blitz. This means if you just want to speed through the game and avoid all battle (which just defeats the entire purpose of playing an RPG imo, speedrun RPGs are TERRIBLE), then it won't be as strong.
It also suffers from split damage even though it's a single target attack, so that's why most people just default to fire dance + aura bolt spam instead.
I believe that trick works on all but the IOS/Android version of FF6 which THAT version is based on the GBA version of the game but on all versions Sabin's AI will still use Soul Spiral after lv 42 to kill himself for the arena battles. While Crusader is the ONLY attack Esper that can kill even at lv 99 party I believe the AI via the arena/coliseum battles NEVER really SUMMONS them at all.
Nice list. Honestly the original game is not hard enough. You have access to enough items and cure magic. I was too lazy to utilize Sabin's blitz. Always fun to suplex a train though. ;)
BTW your not garenteed to start with it. Its a 99 % chance yes but if you are speed running and blast through and not lvl the Group you might actually not have it. I know cause one playthrough I didnt start with it.
Lets do some simple math. Terra starts at level 3, which means Locke joins at 5 (Terra's level +2) with an average party level of 4. Edgar joins at level 6 (average party +2) which puts average party level at 5. Sabin joins at level 7 (average party level +2). That means without fighting anything that gives exp you are guaranteed to pass the level requirements for pummel and aurabolt.
The only CRAPPY Blitz is the one that KILLS HIMSELF LV 43 and yes his AI for the Arena battles during the 2nd half of the game IS dumb enough to actually USE IT even with every single spell learnt on Sabin. About the lv 70 grind the only way I COULD damage Intangirs since you can't KILL them with Doom/Banish/Rhodox rage even in the Pixel remaster instantly IS to have a LV 70 + Sabin do 9999 Phantom Rushes on it UNTIL it dies from it.
For this list it wouldn't have changed what version it was anyway. I went with PR as it's the most common and accessible version for the general populace these days
You named all of these blitz's wrong noob. Playing the scrub version where you have to look up commands? Psh. PUMMEL, AURA BOLT, SUPLEX, FIRE DANCE, MANTRA, AIR BLADE, BUM RUSH. Get on my level bro.
2nd fastest speedrunner in the main SNES category and top 5 in many others, get on my level bro :) probably put more time playing the SNES version than 98% of peeps in these comments LOL

Maybe both of them are tied for second place.
no ties! gotta be firm. fortunately fire dance is just really good early game whereas bum rush is ONLY good late game so that's why it drops
@@Bdewd I'm glad I say "I'm not sure" or "maybe" because I'm recalling back to my childhood days rather than now since I don't have FF6 any more.
Personally I like Pummel/Raging Fist because it ignores DEF like Drill does.
Meteor Strike is Suplex forever.
Need a Gau rages Tier List
Umm....no :)
Geez, that would be crazy. It would be cool to do a top 10 of it at least, as most of them were trash. My personal favori was the giant robot called IO.
I think Djee is on to something here. 😜
Good list, IDK, I love the old names for the moves the best.
*pst* i like the old names as well but figure with the newer games and generation i should go with the new names so there's less confusion on what's what haha
i remember the snes version "bum rush" i laugh every time my friend used it (WHEN HE COULD). he always handed me the controller to input the steps. he had like 3/10 chance, where i had a 9/10 chance. it was also fun watching him fail and die XD
ppl back then didn't realize you didn't need to do the diagonals, you can just tap the directions extra times to make up for them D:
"teehee bum rush"
Sabin always gets a genji glove because in the end I always do 2 9999 hits and it’s better than just 1 hit at 9999.
It took a second playthrough to figure out how diagonals work on controllers. Been using Aura Bolt ever since. Kamehameha!
instead of using the diagonals, just push an extra cardinal direction instead!
That's how I remember it, but that was 30 years ago, so...
unfortunately the skill itself is also locked behind levels or else things could get really spicy really quick in a speedrun setting haha
Raging Fist cuts tru the def of Cactuars, really usefull imo
i would of like you commenting on the ease of inputs as well
aura cannon is defiantly easy input
As a kid all I did was use the aura cannon
Chakra/Mantra should be much higher, especially on first runs. Literally the best healing ability for a non-magic character, he even addressed the status effects it covers.
In the Coliseum, Sabin will REGULARLY use the Soul Spiral Blitz.

Sabin my boy forever
very interesting, how about character guides, or comparison to the mod brave new world
this is why brave new world is such a good rom hack. really balances the game
Also Sabin is bad for the coliseum because he can kill himself with Soul Spiral and lose the fight.
don't lie, Sabin using Soul Spiral as his first attack in the coliseum is always magical and why we learn how to save scum as kids :)
Best Blitz for Sabin is:
- Tiger Claw x2
- Genji Glove
- Offering
The names don't seem to be the same cross-platforms.
not having played the game since the late 90's on emulator, the names are all foreign to me. xD i think Raging fist was called Pummel, and Phantom rush was called Bum Rush.
that is correct. as much as i love the snes names, i figured the updated names were the better option due to new player base coming in from the pixel remasters
@@Bdewdok so it was not just some weird fantranslation i played back then, good to know! :D
Soul Spiral... AKA the reason why you should NEVER bring Sabin to the Coliseum...
It should have NEGATIVE usefulness.
LOL the feeling a kid feels when they see a good item go to waste cuz of soul spiral in coliseum always gives me joy
Exactly but I forgot it Slots Setzer can be used because if it can you risk him using the Joker Doom version that can kill Setzer not the enemies OR have it land on the 3 bar summon ONLY to have it summon Crusader killing Setzer even at lv 99 in the process.
Hadouken > Spinning Pile Driver > Hundred Hand Slap
I think the Shoto players agree, but the Zangief players might be upset.
I keep getting thrown when I try to watch these videos because everyone uses the later revised names for enemies, blitzes, spells, etc. I guess time has passed me by, but I still play my 1994 Final Fantasy 3.
Okay, I’ve subscribed. Happy now?!?!?
:)
Saabin! 💯
I knew hadouken would be top. just like in most games!
No, they are all good.
While we are on the subject, add more Blitz's, SquareEnix.
#SabinSuplexesTrains
You don't even need to enter diagonal inputs for the Pixel remaster. You can just replace them with rights or lefts 😂
same thing in the SNES :)
@@Bdewd Never played the original.
You can tell Blitzes are overpowered when even the second worst one can be considered "good".
Nice list. Honestly the original game is not hard enough. You have access to enough items and cure magic. I was too lazy to utilize Sabin's blitz. Always fun to suplex a train though. ;)
What are these names??? 😮
Old file I honestly couldn't tell you hahahahaba
This is one of the main reasons I don't like playing any version of the game beyond SNES/PSX: New Ability Names. =/
Mirror, mirror. AURA BOLT RRRRRRRGH
They renamed Bum Rush? That sucks!
By complaining about the subscribing at the beginning of the video, you're ensured I never will.
Quite sad that you don't, will it hurt you?! No
SAY-bin
You were kind to Soul Spiral..... 0 / 10
Looooooooool
No Bum Rush or Suplex, cry.
Suplex.
Who did the fanart you use at the beginning? You don't give any sort of credit and that's theft.
??? it's literally in the description
Why dont you play the original. The remakes look so easy.
I speedrun the original near daily. The HD makes capture easier cuz its HD resolution :)
The name is pronounced say-bin
The suplex is the most over rated anything in FFVI
Pixel Remaster version = Garbage. I appreciate your lists but would have been better with the better/original version of the game.
For this list it wouldn't have changed what version it was anyway. I went with PR as it's the most common and accessible version for the general populace these days
your maths sux xD
ever heard of averages? xD
they aren't weighed equally xD
You named all of these blitz's wrong noob. Playing the scrub version where you have to look up commands? Psh. PUMMEL, AURA BOLT, SUPLEX, FIRE DANCE, MANTRA, AIR BLADE, BUM RUSH. Get on my level bro.
2nd fastest speedrunner in the main SNES category and top 5 in many others, get on my level bro :) probably put more time playing the SNES version than 98% of peeps in these comments LOL
