Because of a glitch in the snes version, Bomb summon is very easy to get. In Tower of Babil, have Edge steal from a Ballon enemy then make sure that the Ballon that got stealed is the first enemy to be defeated (steals hi potion / cure 2). Since the only itens Ballon drops are hi potion (common, uncommon, rare) and Bomb (very rare), the drop check detect that the hi potion already happened so the game memory load the next diferent iten in the chart for the drop. Sylph was a boon vs the CPU in the Gaint of Babil in the original FF4. Bypassing CPU's reflect and healing off the attack nodes damage made the fight even more trivial. You wanted to get rid of the healing defense node but wanted to keep the attack node alive otherwise the CPU would spam Global 199 and then revive the two nodes.
Of course Bahamut is number 1, hes always been the OG summon that looks at the targets defense stats and laughs, ignoring they even exist. And i think up until a game gave Odin a second attack, he was the only one who ignored all defense stats
Would love to see a ranking of white magic and black magic spells (could probably include the ninja spells in the black magic since there are so few of them)
3D has so many functional changes that it would need to be its own list. They really did an overhaul for that version, way more than I figured just looking at just the summons alone :O
The real issue with Rydia's summons is that, in the second half, they aren't very useful compared to her black magic spells. Later games did it much better, having white magic being the secondary skill of the summoners.
You said Chocobo was 5/5 accessibility, making it an 8/10. Infact, the audio doesn't match the math for lots of stuff. These lists are always fun to watch, thanks.
last min changes and staring at the same thing happens to have things overlooked. im gonna send the next video to someone before finishing to see if there's anything i fricked up before submitting since i know what it SHOULD say my brain doesn't see the error :(
Just to start, I'd like to say that I largely agree with your list, but there are a few nitpicks I want to bring up. Nothing huge, but they stood out to me while listening to the video. First, your script and the graphics on display contradict a few times. The most notable being the Sylph, where you say 7/10 but the graphic says 4/10. Second, everything I've seen from loot tables, and my own experience, in the game says that Bombs and Grey Bombs don't drop the bomb summon, so you can't get that as early as Mt. Hobbs. It gets dropped by Balloons and Grenades, so you aren't likely to see it without having a ninja in the party! (At least, this is true in the Pixel Remaster) Lastly, when you were talking about Ramuh, you mentioned that he kinda becomes obsolete when Rydia learns Thundara (Lit-2). The problem here is that when Rydia rejoins the party as an adult, she always comes with Fira/Blizzara/Thundara (Fire-2/Ice-2/Lit-2) in her spell list.
Yup, i was going to say that about bomb. You cant find him until adult. I dont know why hes ranked so low i remember him doing high damage for single target for the most of the game.
@@PsyGuy82 He did cover that part. Bomb explodes for Rydia's current HP, and she has the worst HP pool of the party. Can do decent numbers in the late game, especially for the 10 MP cost, but by then you likely have the right equipment setups for her to just attack for more damage.
Big thing you missed is that Mist Dragon does damage equal to Rydias current health at a minimum and you can pain stakingly farm items to increase her health making Dragon her potential strongest summon in the game if time is dedicated to grinding those hp increasing items for her to get 9999 hp
A fun use for Sylph is against CPU! So many of her summons and spells will also take out the Attacker and Defender, but with Sylph she can still do decent damage and heal the party a bit from Attacker's Max HP-based laser. It also gets around reflect because of it being a summon!
I never knew Sylph's casting cost was bugged. Kinda wild to realize I was putting her and the spell in the same position every time I played. I knew it had a cost but just assumed it was leeching MP in addition to HP
How is something you get automatically a 4/5 in accessibility? And why is that changed to a 5/5 in the text? Also, how does a 4/10 rank higher than most of the summons on the list?
I would give *Goblin* two different abilities, maybe three, nah lets make it four that are random. You get Goblin Punch, Goblin Slash and a possible third being Goblin Horde. Goblin Punch is a week attack and you have a 1/2 chance this would happen. It does have a 50% of causing confuse with an additional benefit of 50% causing berserk on top of that. So 1/2 of the time you would just do insignificant damage, 1/4 of the time (1/2 of 1/2) you can cause confuse on top of that and then a 1/8 (1/2 of 1/2 of 1/2) you can cause confuse and berserk with insignificant damage. Goblin Slash does four times as much damage as Goblin punch and you have a 1/3 chance that this would happen. You don't get the benefits of causing confuse or berserk on top of that. There is also a 50% chance of causing critical damage which will double it. That means you have a 1/3 chance to do 4x damage and a 1/6 chance to do 8x damage. Then there will be Goblin Horde. Goblin Horde has a 1/12 chance of happening and it will summon a horde of Goblins each which will do either a Goblin Punch, a Goblin Slash or a Goblin Taunt. The number of Goblins summoned is determine by Rydia's level. Which means you can summon a 100 goblins which can all do a regular goblin punch or 50 goblins doing Goblin Slash and 50 Goblins doing Goblin Taunt. It is very random and follows the same percentages for each Goblin as there is in one doing a taunt, punch of slash with the same probabilities for benefits that could arise. And then there is the a Goblin Taunt which also has a 1/12 chance of happening. Goblin Taunt has a 50% of doing absolutely nothing, 33% it will take up a turn of your enemy to attack the goblin wasting its turn which can help with Bahamut, and 17% chance (1/6) it will cause freight (which doesn't work on bosses) causing the enemy to lose attack and defense power, doesn't improve spells. For *Bomb* I wouldn't change much about it other than: 50% of just doing regular damage relative to Rydia's MAX HP + MAX MP, 25% it will do a critical hit for 2x damage to 1 target and 25% it could cause normal damage to all targets. Regardless of which way it hits, there is an additional 25% chance to cause confusion. So with hitting regularly, it has a 1/8 chance to cause confusion, 1/16 whether doing double damage or hitting an entire group of enemies to cause confusion. For *Cockatrice* it has a 90% of causing break to an enemy (doesn't effect bosses), but it will also cause damage relative to 2x Rydia's with her magic power state added to her attack power state with the same weapon she already has.
I remember when I was playing the gba version and in the post game area I managed to get the cockatrice summons and I was like "Summons can be dropped by enemies?"
the worst part is w/o knowledge of just the 4, you will farm so many enemies thinking you can get so many other ones. really is a scary trap to fall into D:
IIRC Goblin summon had some hidden math behind it, at least on the American SNES version. I got it and it was immediately doing hundreds of damage. It might have had something to do with how many goblins you actually killed in that starter area after she gets it. I have no sense of direction and routinely get lost on those FF style world maps and ended up killing way more of those goblins that I had any reason to do to and as a result goblin stayed one of my best options well into the late game do the cost vs damage out.
I finally got the time to poke around in the code for the SNES version (North American), and I can confirm that there is no such thing in the game as water or earth elemental; you've got fire, ice, bolt, dark, holy, and aerial (arrows, thrown weapons, jump, etc.). Tidal waves, Leviathan and all that are non-elemental, though Edge's Flood technique is ice elemental. Since I noticed it below, the Bomb summon is non-elemental, but the bomb-type enemies' Explode skill that is what it's supposed to be using, is fire-elemental. I was also able to confirm my suspicions that Meteo is holy-elemental, which is how that and W. Meteo can heal Zeromus during that scripted fight.
I think they BUFFED Odin in Pixel Remaster, because I played the older versions religiously and I distinctly remember Odin working only if his instant kill hits ALL enemies present (so most of the time he appears and then leaves without doing anything)
I liked Asura. She's great at healing, especially when you needed extra healing. Syph Faries can't be used on undead monsters, making them slightly less useful.
I honestly don’t think that matters to me. It seems to be upsetting people in the comments. But I watch these ranking videos for the methodical listing of all the things in a category. I don’t agree with the rankings (Mist Dragon Mommy 4Eva) and yeah the numbers didn’t match at times but I think that’s way too nitpicky
I feel Asura is more useful in the original "FF2" release on the SNES, as Protect was a dummied spell, meaning that Asura in that version had a 2/3 chance to heal everyone, and a 1/3 chance to be a worthless bump on a log. You verbally gave Chocobo a 5/5, yet visually, you gave it a 4/5. Editing error? Also, wow, I did not know that Mist Dragon only did Holy damage in the 3D version!
I feel you are far too generous with the accessibility scores for the item drop summons. Also, for Asura worth mentioning that in the FF2 version (aka US ff4...) that the protect effect is replaced with cure 4/curaja, making it a 2/3 chance to get major healing to the party, in case of emergency. For sylph, on the SNES it actually costs 0, as long as you have the stated cost of 25 mp available. FInally giving availiability and usefulness the same weight towards an overall score seems odd in the end, given the heavy rng required for 4 of them, with the boss fight/sylph ones being not too far from each other.
only downside flare really has is even tho it casts crazy fast....for some reason...only single target. that's where bahamut is cool for. otherwise...ya
There was a few uh ohs the editor missed on but I'm fine with it. The voice over is correct and it was his first crack at editing. But ty for the heads up:)
Summons not being reflected by wall, is one of their few saving graces. It allows her to do some level of magical damage against Asura for example. The Ashura summon also gives you a third group healing option as well. But yes, in general, I would agree targeting elemental weaknesses with her black magic is the better way to go and with virus being so cheap and non-elemental
The problem with alot of the spells take longer than nuke which means in the randomizer you basically never use fire3 and other similar long cast time spells.
The accessibility numbers on the enemy-drop summons should all be a lot less than 3. This video needs a re-edit to reflect that and you need to look at the numbers in your script you're reading VS what you have on screen because I'm only to Ramuh and I've heard/seen two mistakes in what you say VS what's on screen.
Asura is a lot better in FF2US than other versions of the game. Since there's no Protect in that version she was given a second powerful full-party Cure.
Ifrit is great against golbez when rydia rejoins, but damage wise titan is equal for that fight. Its fun using shiva against rubicante especially if his ai makes him smack himself with an ice2/blizzara. I agree with everyone about zapping odin with ramuh and machines in general. They should've made mist dragon holy elemental from the get go instead of 3d only. The rest are good as they are, but Odin def needed his gungnir. Im glad they def made summons better and better as the new entries went on.
i've always used a nice lil setup where rydia never even gets to show up in that fight past the scripted mist dragon reveal so i forget she actually does stuff in that fight hahaha
I saw this come up a few days ago and was interested to watch it when I had time. The errors between what you say and what the screen displays really throw me off. I'm rather disappointed in the quality of this video. Guess I shouldn't have gotten myself excited about a video about my favorite magic user in my favorite FF.
I spent three hours grinding for the bomb summon on the moon then somehow ended up getting one three combats in a row. Getting all of Rydia's summons is my pick for the worse PS trophy in the Pixel Remasters
For me i've never bothered to get the summons like the Goblin, Cockatrice etc. Sure they're downright worthless but the rather low chance of a enemy dropping said Summon pretty much makes me not to bother with it in the first place. Just go with the ones the story provides you and you'll be fine for the entirety of the game. As for my favorite summons in Final Fantasy IV i'll have to go with Bahamut, Levaiathan or however it's actually spelled lol and Odin
@@Bdewd Came out in JP around the same time as FF6, very gameplay heavy jRPG, tons of potential for tierlists. There's not enough content for that series :(
I don't get why you ranked some of those summons 4/5 when they are automatically acquired. That makes 0 sense. Bahamut is the best, better than even meteor. Meteor would be better if it didn't take so long to cast. Maybe it is faster in other versions than the SNES though.
Its the internet. Usually I'll address a few comments but the ones that just copies of the same idea I tend to leave alone. Not a huge deal. Some ate constructive some not so much:) glad you enjoyed it

*wouldn’t fight bdewd*
another awesome video my friend!
I always liked in the original version of FF2 for snes, Asura’s chances were cure 3, cure 4, or life 1……was much more reliable to cure the party
It looked like Mist was doing Rydia's max hp as damage?
Dang they really just rolled a dice on what stuff did eh hahahaha
I hope this means we'll get some ffv lists in the future 🧐
possibly, next one I wanna try and see how CT does
@@Bdewd can’t go wrong with CT!
Chrono Trigger Triple Techs Tier List 🙏
I think they BUFFED Odin in Pixel Remaster, because I played the older versions religiously and I distinctly remember Odin working only if his instant kill hits ALL enemies present (so most of the time he appears and then leaves without doing anything)
I liked Asura. She's great at healing, especially when you needed extra healing. Syph Faries can't be used on undead monsters, making them slightly less useful.
I always liked sylph mainly because they don't get reflected, so they're useful for the giant of babel cpu fight.
I like to use the Summons & Black magic anytime I play Final Fantasy 4
"I like to say things with numbers, while showing different numbers on the screen."
This has been ongoing.

@@Bdewd Nah, I like you. I'm just pedantic.
@@yunakitty2 its alright, for the next video i have rectified this via a small change so they CAN'T be wrong :D
Rydia as a small child is a Red Mage, then as an adult she somehow forgets all her White Magic.
She grows up to be a gamer girl and disses White Magic as a crutch, telling Rosa to git gud using Asura.
Sage. Her physical capabilities are abysmal, and she knows summon, white and black.
Tellah saw her potential early on.
I’ve only played the snes version, so the sylph zero mp was bug was used fairly often.
it's so good for free black mage heals lol
SOMEBODY put the wrong score on screen for Sylph. ;p
Too bad summons are so slow to cast compared to instant Nuke and Virus... I mean Flare and Bio
only downside flare really has is even tho it casts crazy fast....for some reason...only single target. that's where bahamut is cool for. otherwise...ya
Hey bro just mentioning that I'm seeing in the Sylph section that she's a 7/10 but the graphic on-screen says 4/10. Fun video as always.
There was a few uh ohs the editor missed on but I'm fine with it. The voice over is correct and it was his first crack at editing. But ty for the heads up:)
Tbh I almost never summon anything in FF4. Rydia's magic is so much better than her summons in almost every scenario.
Summons arent penalized by split damage. They not affected by wall. Titan is amazing mid game.
titan is so good, i love my ripped boi
The problem with alot of the spells take longer than nuke which means in the randomizer you basically never use fire3 and other similar long cast time spells.
i beat leviathan first try but took me 5 times to beat asura, felt that asura was actually harder
Bomb doesn’t actually self destruct Rydia?! I’ve never used this summon because I assumed it would do what it’s literally called 😅
I'm super excited for FF4 lists. Any topic at all really.
Love it ❤
I saw this come up a few days ago and was interested to watch it when I had time. The errors between what you say and what the screen displays really throw me off. I'm rather disappointed in the quality of this video. Guess I shouldn't have gotten myself excited about a video about my favorite magic user in my favorite FF.
I never got any of the enemy summons and only recently learned they even exist lol
dont bother with them. they are all buns :(
me neither, and after playing this game about 20 years ago. shame on us
@Bdewd seems like it lol if I got the drop I'd be like "oh neat", but I'm certainly not farming goblins any time soon
on Ramuh you say 4/5 accessibility 5/5 on screen
I spent three hours grinding for the bomb summon on the moon then somehow ended up getting one three combats in a row. Getting all of Rydia's summons is my pick for the worse PS trophy in the Pixel Remasters
If I fight you over your Bahamut bias, are you going to summon him?
naw, my moral code says we go mano a mano LOL lessgo >:)
As for my favorite summons in Final Fantasy IV i'll have to go with Bahamut, Levaiathan or however it's actually spelled lol and Odin
ya summons are kinda underwhelming except the big 2 for the most part. chocobo is good for like...antlion.
@@Bdewd lol i only used the Chocobo summon only once
Fuck me, it took me 3 days to find bomb. Fuck that summons!
now you can do miniscule damage based off rydias hp yay
Bahamut to Leviathan: "What is a king to a god?"
Mist Dragon to Bahamut: "What is a god to a non-believer!?"
**Rydia's mom dies**

But that's dumb
But she's so cool
BUT THAT'S SO DUMB
I think Goblin Punch does 8X damage if you are the same level as the enemy.
i know that's the case for FFV, didn't find anything like that for FFIV but i can look later
@@Bdewd Well, apparently that didn't start until FFV. I wonder what your list of the FFV summons would be.
For that all but Odin/Bahamut damage wise are pure CRAP and their BOTH WORLD 3 only.

Worst to best songs?
I don't get why you ranked some of those summons 4/5 when they are automatically acquired. That makes 0 sense. Bahamut is the best, better than even meteor. Meteor would be better if it didn't take so long to cast. Maybe it is faster in other versions than the SNES though.
lol beakhead, I mean is better than my dumb ass who though Leviathan was a Quetzacoal for its colors
Nice
Your definitely messed up a lot of those numbers
These are cool videos, I'm curious why so many of the comments are uptight psychos.
Anyway, subscribed
Its the internet. Usually I'll address a few comments but the ones that just copies of the same idea I tend to leave alone. Not a huge deal. Some ate constructive some not so much:) glad you enjoyed it
As far as i know cockatrice can also be droped from the birds outside Baron so you could get it early in the game with goblin
Bahamat isn't top. I'm sorry, but you get him way too late. He's end game my guy. Accessibility should be 1 or maybe 2 at best.
Leviathan is the top tier
Lol you "don't know" how Rydia's mother dies.
FF 4 worst to best music.
You should be proofreading your editor's video better. Having accurate enjoyable content in the beginning of your channel will mean greater success down the road.
Allowing these mistakes to continue as they have been will lose you subscribers and prevent some that you would otherwise get with accurate content.
its a good thing it's just a hobby for fun and i don't really care about the numbers :D
It's pronounced Rah-muh and Ee-freet... just for future reference
