I honestly loved this video. As a first time apartment hunter, it's so overwhelming and it feels like I have to find the perfect place which checks every possible box, so I don't look like an idiot 😅. But it's really comforting to see that even people who are seasoned apartment hunters sometimes also have issues with the places they got. It definitely takes some pressure off.
A video idea for Ryan: perhaps he could do a series on kitchen product/supply essentials, for various skill levels and category (baking/pastry, everyday, etc.), and essential cookbooks (in his opinion)!
that sucks about the rent to own misunderstanding/miscommunication but really appreciate the honesty about your experience and also all the downsides of the luxury apartment. i feel so many influencers/youtubers always rave about all the pros and perks and aren't honest about the negatives as they're worried it's a reflection of them but it isn't! more knowledge shared is more power to everyone. love your content and your honesty!
Been looking forward to a tour of the place. So curious after seeing it in so many vids. Watching and making apartment tours is my addiction, and I am proud.
I like your idea of minimalism, where enjoyment or delayed enjoyment is a purpose. While many people adopt this lifestyle not by choice (ie financial constraints, for example), there are also those who choose this lifestyle, but confuse it with "bare minimum" or "sustenance only". The latter group, which should have been much more fortunate to be blessed with the choice, ends up making themselves miserable and then regretting things at old age.
Honestly I think this would be the perfect apt for Leah and I, maybe a larger den would be nice but the views are just 😍😍 edit: Damn just got to the end, sorry to hear about the builders and the rent to own let down. Seems like a lot of buildings have issues like this nowadays.
I get so much second hand stress for your neck and shoulders watching your WFH set up:p I would highly recommend the foldable Roost laptop stand. Packs down and you can take it with you everywhere. Has been a life savour during the pan d!
It was nice to hear the pros and cons! People don't often go over them... I'm in Vancouver too in a fairly new build (we were the first to move into our apartment 3 years ago in May) and developers in this city really suck. We can hear everyone in the hallways, upstairs and occasionally beside us as well. And when you walk past units in the hallway, you hear what's going on in everyone's unit. There's no privacy! I think I know which developer you're referring too as they have deficiencies left, right and centre in so many of their luxury buildings. Are you stuck in their rent to own program? Also even as someone who lives in Vancouver, $200 a month for parking?! Total $3,000 a month in rent?! That is absurd. Do you have to pay all your utilities too? Or is heat and hot water included? For $3,000 you can get a 3 bedroom in our building. Parking is from $75 a month, but there aren't any utilities included at all. We have decent amenities, but nothing like yours.
Shout out to Ryan. On public TV I saw Jamie Oliver, a British chef, do Mexican Taco's. Amazing. It was an hour long because he prepped a lot on the first day, then brought it all together on the second day at a party for friends. Everything from scratch ...tortillas, roasted pork and pineapple, red cabbage slaw, pork belly for crispiness, a ice cream like desert, sauce for the taco's made from roasted peppers. I couldn't stop thinking about how Ryan might really like all the time, effort and "from scratch" uniqueness.
I agree with you Joe. For a bldg that is newly built, the complaints you have mentioned shouldn't be happening. Definitely not worth paying $3k/mo. Did they have a promotion advertised when you moved in? Like a month free rent if you sign a lease for a minimum of 1 year? Or something like that. Potentially moving to Vancouver in the fall time and looking for a 1 bedroom that's not over $1,500 😅 I know it's sounds impossible. Hopefully you guys can find a place that fits your bill! Xoxo from Toronto!
Do you mind sharing where you got your prints and black frames from? Love them! Your developer has a really bad rep and your video just confirmed it. However, I just moved into a new building (not from the same developer) and apparently small cracks are normal because the building is still settling, management said that they would re-visit after a year to paint over them.
Thanks Joe and Ryan .. enjoyed your tour and you certainly have got the minimalistic apart.ent working well.. but it's pretty expensive for you both and Jasper...good.luck for the future guys xxxlol
9:10 - is that an avocado with the keys, coins, sunglasses, etc? hahahah! All those Article pieces are SO nice. Total bummer about that rent to own program. Good luck finding another place that suits your needs better. 2 bedroom for sure.
Really nice tour! We are currently living in Munich (Bayern, Germany) and paying €1,300/month for 48m2 (about $1,855) so your place is slightly bit more expensive per sqm 😅
For all the comments about the high cost of rent $3,000.00 per month for a 1 bedroom. Vancouver and Toronto are the most expensive rental markets in Canada. It costs over $2,000 for an older building 1960's 70's built usually with zero amenities like gyms or pools and then often without necessities - in suite laundry. Moving outside of downtown will be only slightly less expensive. I live in Vancouver and a friend lives in the same building they are in and is also very disappointed in having the issues Joe mentioned in a new building paying such high rent.
So, would you consider moving back to Mount Pleasant or surroundings? Downtown seems to have been less ideal than you expected. It's certainly pricier.
Hey thanks for sharing the tips. I live in the east tower of the same complex by myself and I also have issues w smudges on the kitchen cabinet, entrance door, drywall, black toilet sink, etc. and glad to learn that there is a friendly Korean Canadian neighbour which seems pretty rare in this area. (Btw i am new to canada) Would like to talk more w you and your partner about general stuffs
t its crazy to think about all those newer places that are aesthetically pleasing at first but then many are built quick and cheaply and you deal with them breaking down easier and things like thin walls
As a digital creator you have the freedom to work from anywhere, if I was you I would be saving up on living costs by living somewhere else and retire early. Peace of mind. Views are good but Vancouver is all hustle, no one has time to enjoy and it rains half the year.
Ok but maybe swap the coffee station and dining table, have the bench backup against the couch and the table can be squared off with the couch/TV/wall and the coffee is closer proximity to the sink.
I live in Langley, and contemplated selling my condo (price has literally tripled) and renting, but the rents are ridiculously high out here too. Thought it would be nice to be mortgage free, but not at those rent prices.
After living in cities for 10 yrs I've stopped looking at apartments w/ so many amenities. I feel like they're always closed or unsanitary. My last place had a gym - gorgeous pics and at my tour it was decent. A couple months in and everything is broken and covered in a sticky sweaty film since nobody maintained it. I'm talking popped yoga balls, broken treadmill, and someone literally stole the pin in the cable machine. Like cut the cable and took the pin so nobody could adjust weight. I'd rather just live close to the gym, market, vet/dog park, etc. than have a poorly maintained one in the building and included in the rent - especially since most mgmt doesn't discount your rent when they take away one of the amenities I adore the idea of a high rise w everything you'd need built in but they're never as good in reality :/
I like your sayings about apartment tour but if you don't like the way layout or certain things that you don't like about the apartment than why would you moved in? yeah color wise do agree - countertops and cabinets in kitchen, lol,
WOW!!! I will never get paying out that much money for rent & parking! That's just crazy to me. In the state I live in a lot of people commute from small towns to the cities to work just so they don't have to pay that huge rent. Many have also purchased a home in the small towns for retirement & to get away from the expensive ownership in the city. Everyones situation is different, I get that. But, to have that much of your income to go to rent is pretty tough to take, especially for that small of space & all the issues you put up with.
Sounds like Canada is just annoying as USA. Charge thousands for the best. My partner and I live in New Mexico, Albuquerque. We live in a apartment townhouse, 3 stories. First story is 2 car garage with a outside car parking. 2nd story is a bathroom, kitchen, livingroom, balcony. Third story is 2 bedroom, 2 bath. 128 sq ft. $1900.00.
I'm surprised that you can hear your neighbours - that's a BIG downer. The bigger surprise is the cost! Gulp!! Thinking of moving to the 'burbs?? I feel there' s a move coming. . . . understandably.
Another couple that I follow who live in SEATTLE for just a year had to move to another apt because their rent was being jacked up by $450/mo. Almost a 33% increase!? 😱😕🤨👎
Joe describing furniture never disappoints-ever!
THE CURVESSS

I honestly love how everyone's kitchen has an absolute disaster of a second drawer
the chaotic drawer
Really enjoyed the tour. Giving the pros and cons is something you always don't hear. Is there a move possibly coming?😉
we think so! once I get settled into the office ✌🏼
@@justjoelee btw- signed up for the BSL CLUB. Love from frigid Twin Cities, MN❤
Nice home tour Joe. Hope you and Ryan have a epic week. 💪💪🌈
Subtlety when saying The bed as another place for home workouts, was so cool 😂
Thanks for such an honest review it was so helpful 💛
I feel like the cabinet smudges could also be mostly solved if there were more traditional pulls.
Been looking forward to a tour of the place. So curious after seeing it in so many vids.

hearing jasper’s collar ring throughout the video was so cute 🥺❤️

thanks! will look into that ❤️
thank you for the very honest review how it is to live in your area. its so much more for so much less. sending you all my blessings.
Great video joe! I’ve loved watching your apartment tours over the years! New viewers didn’t get to meet your plants and cleaning robots!
Watched the whole thing while doing my night routine. Thanks for the company guys 😊👍👍👍👍

I have the cabinets and I just use hot water (sometimes mixed with white vinegar) and it cleans really well!
It's already been a year? Time sure flies...12:35 lol. The slanting wall in the dinning area would drive me crazy 🤪. I like straight lines. 😋

thank god, u saved my sunday
thanks for watching!
the cost of living in Van never fails to baffle me🥵 gotta love the views we get though lmao!
the views are unreal for sure

everything about your apartment is sooo cute. I love it.
I love seeing your channel and grow so well ❤️❤️❤️ congrats my friend
Any tutorial videos for how the other place for home workouts functions?
yes on instagram
I just got some athletic greens through your channel, and you're so right! It's like matcha and pineapple!

I was looking for a comment about the avocado! ;)
How do you feel about the Ode Grinder? It is BEAUTIFUL and I want it.
Thanks for the knowledge, Joe!
Yes the yearly home tour tradition lezgoo😼
let's gooo 🔥🔥🔥
yes I’ve waited for that
I think laying down some round low pile rugs underneath, then the dining table would look ok at an angle
The sofa and balcony is very nice
Wow, amazing video aesthetic minimalist
Really nice tour! We are currently living in Munich (Bayern, Germany) and paying €1,300/month for 48m2 (about $1,855) so your place is slightly bit more expensive per sqm 😅
hope you're enjoying Munich!
Love the open over door demo 😆
“Some everyday stuff” and it’s an avocado 😂😂😂
I love your apartment. And how yall decorated
I enjoyed the tour and the tea 😅
I knew I was an adult when I got joy from getting a cupboard organizer that let us hang our glassware
that sounds amazing haha
We’re looking at rentals too, and Vancouver is wild 😵💫
Really enjoyed your video!!🥰🥰
You are lucky! One thing, how can you not freak out on that balcony? The clear plexiglass! 😵💫😱🙈
where you got that white water bottle from 🥺 it’s so cute

How do you check for soundproofing vs thin walls when apartment hunting?
Marko polo
Where's your man bag from? I really like it!
t its crazy to think about all those newer places that are aesthetically pleasing at first but then many are built quick and cheaply and you deal with them breaking down easier and things like thin walls
studios are amazing! you could also check out some murphy bed options to save space that doubles as the couch!
So sorry to hear about your renting situation. 3000 is a large amount for sure. Hope you guys find a new place soon 😊😊 👍 best wishes 👍
As a digital creator you have the freedom to work from anywhere, if I was you I would be saving up on living costs by living somewhere else and retire early. Peace of mind. Views are good but Vancouver is all hustle, no one has time to enjoy and it rains half the year.
very nice tour 👍 rental is insanely expensive in dt. but as long as you love that area and can afford it, why the hell not 😄
Omg the balconies freak me out! 😅
We need a Jasper bath time vlog! 🥺
Ok but maybe swap the coffee station and dining table, have the bench backup against the couch and the table can be squared off with the couch/TV/wall and the coffee is closer proximity to the sink.
Love from the Philippines❤️🇵🇭
thank you for the support! ❤️
Joe: "some of our more everyday stuff" *a big ass avocado sitting there*
Y'all got your priorities straight lmao
Cool space
I just wondering if your building is shifting and cracking do you guys get little earthquakes in Vancouver
You can clean fingerprints from cabinet with soap 🧼 and wet napkin
Nice videos my friend
I pay under 2, including parking, for a bigger place in Kits. If you want to be downtown you gotta pay for it.
I live in Langley, and contemplated selling my condo (price has literally tripled) and renting, but the rents are ridiculously high out here too. Thought it would be nice to be mortgage free, but not at those rent prices.

never complain about your balcony. at least you have one :)
yo where did u get the blonde poster? it’s so cool
all the artwork is from etsy ✌🏼
I thought what I pay monthly is the worse but $3000 per month is very steep for me. I only pay $1780 per month which is just base rent.
I like your sayings about apartment tour but if you don't like the way layout or certain things that you don't like about the apartment than why would you moved in? yeah color wise do agree - countertops and cabinets in kitchen, lol,
If this apt is 3,000 a month in downtown Vancouver how much does a 1-2 bedroom condo cost in the same area??
How new is this place ?when was it built
The home workout joke didn’t hit me until that end xD
Where did you get your wireless charger? :O
Ok but the views from the patio are 💯💯
Jaspers “youre embarassing me dad” face
what type of dog is your dog?
I can't believe you didn't show us the view from the balcony.
US housing prices have been inflation a shit ton, but Canadian prices are otherworldly 😭

The only place that i would work out is my bed and it is what it is lol
"Another place for home workouts" hahahaha
move, find something closer to your new office to cut down on commute time, quality of life is always more important
that's what we're thinking. thanks for watching! ❤️

Why would you be surprised that they can hear their neighbours ? New apartment buildings are poorly soundproofed.
'and this is the other home workout area' he says casually pointing to the bed.........is that mainly for cardio?🤣
I think your dinning table need round one 😁
Just get a diagonal table 😎
Oh dog dog ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. He said, you’re welcome for that hole. Ha ha.
Vancouver is beau
so beautiful!
❤👏
3,000!! 💀got get a house with 5 room 3 baths here in Dallas texas. 👽
$3000 CAD = $2380 USD but yes still expensive 😂
And a huge yard probably too in Texas. Yeah, here in Vancouver the real estate market is absolutely stupid. I don't know why we put up with it.
🥰
❤️
So no one noticed what he said. 😅. This is our home workout equipment for home..And points to bed 🛏 “this is another place for home workout”. 😂😂😂
Another couple that I follow who live in SEATTLE for just a year had to move to another apt because their rent was being jacked up by $450/mo. Almost a 33% increase!? 😱😕🤨👎
Is it not a waist of energy to always leave the massive 65" TV on all the time?
12:11 Me, An American, with the toilet and washroom in the same room: 😖😣😓
3k for rent what 😮 really wow I just bought my own home for 115k monthly payment is $650ish
