Yes but it’s exploration and discovery as opposed to conceptualisation. There are endless tracks that he made which didn’t quite work. But in that exploration he develops an intuition and style of his own. It’s just a matter of knowing what you like and choosing the most interesting and unique bits.

I was trying to constantly think of "a great concept" all the while my skills iin whatever I would have wanted to produce were immature anyways so this was a great confirmation comment to find, Thank you! This track is one of the reasons why Aphex Twin is truly unique. Nobody has explored rhythm and melodies like him.. this track has like 5 completely different melodic sections that still sound cohesive between each other and all of them sound rich, playful and emotive along with his signature complex drum programming.. no one else can craft something like this and I really mean it.
For me his knowledge in melody composition is truly unparalelled (and I listen to a lot of genres and music eras), not to mention his knowledge of rhythm..no one else has explored rhythm and melodies like him (every single track of him has different rhythm section/s).. the crazy thing is he has been doing it since the mid 80's. He was the first one pushing machines to their extreme capabilities in the early/mid 90's and then everyone else came after.

@@imagist. I know there are a lot of artists doing what I said and thanks for the recommendations. But most of them (if not all) where inspired mostly by Aphex Twin's experimentation methods with rhythm and melody and he has been doing this for almost 40 years (since 1985). Credit where credit is due. Probably nobody before him was experimenting with rhythms and drum machines like he did in his early days.
There's a track of him called Taking Control where he uses around 12 or even more drum machines just to make the rhythm section of the intro. Music is not a competition but there are things this man has done that are almost imposible to replicate. His attention to detail in every single area of music composition is up there with a very few contemporaries of him (Squarepusher, Boards Of Canada and Wisp just to name a few) and even all of them were inspired by Aphex Twin or he had a huge impact on their sound approach.

It's actually lies in his choice of sounds. He does use EQs and stuff, but, if you look at his interviews, he basically programs one track on a bunch of equipment, records it and then doesn't really care about mixing after that. He never goes back and re-mixes the work. It just goes off the mastering press afterward... probably 10 years down the line when the guy finally feels like releasing the material, that is.

This is completely nuts, i mean let's think for a minute what actually went into creating it. First off, gathering a bunch of samples, thinking of the overall structure. Then writing melodies and harmonies that flow into eachother, all the while sounding good through a synthesizer, that tell a story and progress naturally to leave you feeling like it all makes sense.
Then creating drums that complement what is going on melodically, are ever changing, with varying samples and increasingly complex patterns playing out against eachother. Then doing a bunch of sound design, to make the track feel like a single moving/shifting entity with different textures. Then finally mixing everything to near perfection, making every element accessible when you shift your focus to it, and further accenting certain sounds keeping in mind the entire stereo field.
It's pure unfiltered creative genius, there's no other way to describe it. This is really the music we will still be listening to in 100-200 years I'm pretty sure.

Elvis was merely a vessel through which the music industry transitioned into its modern form of reappropriating raw creativity and boiling it down into an easy to digest lowest common denominator. Elvis had talent the way contestants on modern "who's got talent" TV shows do. Whereas RDJ is unfathomably creative, when you look at his body of work, how he achieved it, and also how he dealt with the music business, you get the sense you are a mortal trying to contemplate how a god works. It's absolutely incredible. I feel this way about a few artists, Radiohead for example... Anyway I get what you're saying I just think Elvis gets a lot more credit than he deserves, to me he's the "face" of the white man taking music from other cultures, bottling it, and selling it.

Although he is incredibly skilled and seasoned, I think Richard approaches music with a child-like perspective. A beginners mind if you will. Fresh and playful. This is what makes the sound so unique and beautiful to me.

No, not a close one. This is mature, this is electronic music at its peak; it is by no means childish. Playful, cheerful, idiosyncratic, yes. Pure genius.

It because of synth sound. If you play this melody on piano it will sound like boring crap, thats why piano composer have to invent complex chord mechanic to make it sound good. Synth can make this for you, idk why composers stuck to their shitty piano and violins.

This track is so intricate that it tells a whole life to me.. I can go into intricate details about it but it'd be too much text but basically it starts with someone being born (0:00 -0:34), growing up like a normal kid (0:35 - 1:32), experiencing love for the first time (1:33 - 1:53), facing life as a teen with an uncertain future (1:54 - 2:06), then he becomes a depressed adult trying to get his life together (2:07 - 2:27), then everything starts to get better in his late 20's, he met his future wife, had kids and lived his life really good most of the time until his 50's (2:28 - 3:50), I picture him watching his kids growing up, getting married too and finally becoming a grandfather (3:50 - 4:31), then in his early 60's life strikes again with news that he has some life threatening illness and another uncertain future appears (4:32 - 5:28) , he gets through it and lives his last years surrounded by his loved ones having his last great memories (5:29 - 6:23) and the last section (6:24) I'd imagine the same person in his 90's already in his deathbed surrounded by his loved ones he met on this ride we call life, remembering all of his memories be it good or bad, saying his last words until his last breath (7:18).
Sure, there are a lot of tracks that can tell you a whole life.. but find another track that is extremely intricate both melodically and rhythmically like this track. There's no other.. most people don't know how incredible this track is in every single way, this is one of those things no one can replicate.
