Remember listening to this right after watching The Beatles ended their last live tour in 1966. A long haired, tall man passed me this odd looking gadget and pressed play. It was nothing like what I had heard before.
I think I just realized why this sounds so good. If you focus your attention on the offbeat acid lead, the rest of the song just drifts back and forth in your ears. It sounds so nice and feels like letting the ocean waves carry you on the beach.
My relationship of 1 year just ended. I wasn't good enough. I spent every minute of every day talking to her, and shared everything together. I felt love like I never did before. The only person I hung out was with her. We had so many long term plans. We did everything. She despises me. She thinks of me as only immature. She stopped talking to me and it feels like my world ended. This song helps me get through alot. Thank you aphex twin

The first song i heard from Aphex Twin was - Window Licker, on Rage ( ABC Channel years ago) I missed the song title, loved the song and had it stuck in my mind for 2+ years, wondering and wanting to know what it was. Taping Rage for 7+ hours and waking up in the morning and going through it all was a great experience! The next song i heard was Come to daddy, and that was it. Those 2 songs blew me away as much as that old lady got screamed in the face by that creature lol. Then i discovered his genius nuianced music and was astonished that i had found something that could invoke such great emotions. It's rare to find a band or artist that you find yourself agreeing with so much from their music, because it has to connect or speak to you in some deep meaningful way that you're probably not even aware of about yourself. You can learn things about yourself by seeing what moves you, and RDJ moves me a lot. DrukQs would be one of my favorites, and a few other songs but mainly that whole album. Update: Syro is my favorite now then Analord, hadn't heard those when i wrote this :)
I've known Aphex Twin probably since I was 17-18 but never gave it much attention back then (was more into hard rock and metal) in my mid 20's I started getting more and more into alternative electronic music and such (EBM etc) and later I've started delving into more pureform stuff like techno, sidetrance etc... Now Im kinda appreciatting this artist a lot more than just the bizarre videoclips... I just turned 39

Psy trance is really cool too you should dive into Infected Mushroom. For cool laid back lounge house check out 16B's "How to live 100 years".
I hope someone reads this. I discovered Aphex Twin's music randomly through this EP, clicked on the video because the cover looked cool. I've been listening to this now for about a year. I still haven't listened to any other projects of his to completion, because it's difficult for me to do that with any artist. I have listened to about half of Drukqs and something around 3 songs from each of his albums/EPs. When I set my mind to listen to an album all the way through, it feels like a chore and I procrastinate, even though I know the album is good. But that's not my point. Some song of his popped up in my recommended page and I listened to it, then autoplay put me here unexpectedly. It's been some time since I don't listen to this EP, so I let it play and got to read the comments. Seeing them gave me some weird feeling, because they're all engrained in my memory from having read them tens of times. I took so long to type all this that I forgot a bit about the feeling :) but it was comforting, and now, while the last track plays, it feels more nihilistic. Do you have some feeling about revisiting an old, familiar, comment section?
Hey, I can relate to this a lot. I've known about Aphex Twin and some other artists for quite a while, always wanted to listen to more of their work, but rarely actually get around to doing it. Mostly because I usually find myself in the mood for specific music that I already know, so it takes a while before I get myself to listen to new songs and albums, even when I'm pretty sure that I would love it. I've seen this video in the recommendations for a while now and only today decided to give it a listen, and I'm very happy I did. Reading your comment made me realize I should be doing this more often. There's a lot still to discover. ^_^ And yes, sometimes coming back to a video after a while and seeing familiar comments gives me a kind of warm, nostalgic feeling. But there is also something inspiring about when I first watch/listen to a new video/song on here, and find sentiments in the comment that make complete sense to me even when I haven't had any prior experiences with the video/song myself.

I recorded this into Pro Tools to work out what was happening. The amazing innovation [Edit September 2021: by 'innovation' I don't mean it's never been done before, I just mean 'cool element'] in this track is that the main acid loop that comes in at 0:30 is a nine sixteenths loop - i.e. rather than running for the standard 2 beats (eight sixteenths), it adds an extra sixteenth. This is the main driver of the glorious disorientation of this track. The beauty of the start is how the orderly metre of the pads comes to be dominated by the off-kilter acid loop when it enters, but the acid loop in turn is dominated by the drum loop. There's more to say about the rest of the track, but you get the gist. Edit August 2021: In the replies below, Audio Maverick asked this question: What are you talking about? Is the loop an extra 1/16th longer than the other loops? Do you mean the loop itself is longer in duration or has an extra 16th crammed with in it like a polyrhythm? Here is my reply - I think it adds to my original comment: Yes, the acid loop is 1/16th longer than the other loops (in real time). And importantly, the 16ths in the acid loop are the same length of time as the 16ths from the rest of the track. The notes in the acid loop come on the following steps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6-7, 8-9 (the 6-7 and 8-9 notes are tied). But the really cool thing is that when the acid loop first comes in, the brain doesn't register it as being a 9/16ths loop as such, but as a normal 8/16ths loop. We tap our foot once at the start of the loop and again in the middle of the loop, but, the second tap falls between the 5th and 6th step. Sooo... In this sense, the loop also has an extra 16th crammed into it. Both perspectives are correct. How fucking damn cool is that? ... The success of this comment is rapidly turning into the highlight of my life. It's up there with the time I won the costume contest at a screening of the Big Lebowski - as decided by audience applause - when I dressed up as Marty when he was performing his dance quintet.
@@its_drez Immerse yourself in music, my friend. Play instruments, write songs, produce songs, make loops, fiddle with synths, mess around with eq, keep thinking about why certain songs keep calling you back (from Aphex to Bach). It ain't about the courses (though a production course might help to demystify the studio). I've been producing on and off for 25 years - all self taught. I'm not great, but music is sure in my soul, and Aphex Twin is the king of kings.

This guy is great. You could convert all of his music to any instrument and it's still and probably more relevant. The fact he chose this musical pathway make's him and his music so unique, genius. Never said lightly.
I remember when John peel interviewed Richard David James outside his house he sent a sample to John which he played on his radio show You could send any music to him and he would play it we don't get anything like that anymore it was a sad loss to lose John Peel Magnificent wonderful track my friend I always love Aphex Twin Richard is a genius Thanks for sharing this Gem 😊
This song was how I got into Aphex Twin and I didn't pay too much attention to it at first, but he's been my favorite artist ever since. This video popped up on my UA-cam feed the day it was uploaded, which was also my birthday... funny coincidence.
@@sidspassion8591This is an EP called "Orphans", and two songs are a remix of Luke Vibert's "Sci-Fi Staircase". A lot of Richard's (Aphex Twin) work is not on streaming platforms like Spotify, I assume because they were released under his own record label "Rephlex" which is now defunct.

It just randomly appeared on my suggestions and now I finish the day listening this with this composition on instant repeat. Very cosmic, quite depressive and cold, yet so full of impulse and passion like our heartbeats
At first i thought it was weird including two versions of the same track, however now I like it there... It shows the impact a good arrangement can have to a piece of music. The first version of sci-fi staircase really strikes a chord in me compared to the other, even though they have the same instrumentation, rhythms and patterns... The arrangement is just perfect and it shows that even someone as talented as RDJ still can struggle from time to time with perfecting the music. Never give up on your tracks and experiment!
bro for the longest time i legit thought this was an entire 10 min track that paused in the middle for some reason... RDJ makes weird shit tho, so nothing is off the table hahah
I cant speak on this in any musically informed way, but i can say that this one's something special. Ive been diggin this track since i found it a year or two ago and every time i listen to it, i further appreciate something in it which i dont quite understand. The start remind me of 2 dancing leaves from 2 different trees falling in the spring. They are happy together twirling around each other in a subconscious dance. After they fall to the ground and decompose they are still happy together, desiccated by worms and bugs and car tires their joy lives on through the shadow they cast through the fall. With every generation the nutrients that comprised those leaves grow further and further apart, being used by other trees and plants, being spread like ashes, casting a spiritual web all over the world.

I’ve been listening to Aphex twin since 16 im now 46
I think Apex Twin is an electronic music genius! I am delighted with his music, I have been watching closely what he creates for years. I found a lot of Aphex Twin's albums. I am listening with delight. Great!
You Missed An H Right Next To The P In Apex Buddy.
Fortunately there is a lot of his music released.
@@InklingFan77Mettaton1936 You missed a comma between Apex and Buddy, and it should've been an 'a' next to the H, not an 'an'......Also you capitalised every word for some strange reason.
If you're going to point out the mistakes of others, like a grammar snob, then you shouldn't make mistakes yourself.

Classic track that is so very much appreciated. That subsonic bass at 1.43 and so on hits so hard. The whole track makes me floating out there in space. 💫18 minutes of pure pleasure and gorgeous music. Aphex Twin are legendary. This is a true masterpiece.

You should check out Luke Viberts Lovers Acid album. He does this same trick on a few tracks.
@@caseystu123 Adding to this, this song is a remix of Luke Viberts song Scifi Staircase lol
how do I learn how to talk like this is there a course online I can take to understand this (trying to learn music production)

Aphex Twin gives me energy for my soul. I love him. All the best to his music and himself. Long live to the king!
There would be a huge part of me missing had I not heard his music. Thankfully, 20 yrs into Aphex, I still feel like I have that special blanket.
This sound taps into something I feel blessed to come across.
The beginning always evokes a feeling of intense sadness in me.
There was this angry redheaded man with a lot of natural Charisma in Austin Who convinced me to listen to this guy
By repeatedly making jokes that contain the name of this performer that don't make a lot of sense.
Also he pulled several unregistered guns on me at once and said I better listen to Aphex Twin or else

which album is this? why it aint on Spotify?
@@sidspassion8591This is an EP called "Orphans", and two songs are a remix of Luke Vibert's "Sci-Fi Staircase". A lot of Richard's (Aphex Twin) work is not on streaming platforms like Spotify, I assume because they were released under his own record label "Rephlex" which is now defunct.
this is pure genius, it's sad that most people can't understand how great this genre of music is
You mean great an artist this is. Aphex Twin created the genre.
how is the genre called?

At first i thought it was weird including two versions of the same track, however now I like it there... It shows the impact a good arrangement can have to a piece of music. The first version of sci-fi staircase really strikes a chord in me compared to the other, even though they have the same instrumentation, rhythms and patterns... The arrangement is just perfect and it shows that even someone as talented as RDJ still can struggle from time to time with perfecting the music. Never give up on your tracks and experiment!
The first few seconds, (that runs a length), has a tonal quality of 'Last I heard' by Thom Yorke.

Any aphex twin actually
This one is my favourite longer one for the mountains my bike also listens
aphex twin never fails to hypnotise
The start remind me of 2 dancing leaves from 2 different trees falling in the spring. They are happy together twirling around each other in a subconscious dance. After they fall to the ground and decompose they are still happy together, desiccated by worms and bugs and car tires their joy lives on through the shadow they cast through the fall. With every generation the nutrients that comprised those leaves grow further and further apart, being used by other trees and plants, being spread like ashes, casting a spiritual web all over the world.
That continuous ringing loop is now stuck in my mind
