    Nobody picked up on the fact I actually did a couple of those walking past the camera shots for a change!

    😂 hey!!! This is the first of your videos I have found. Well done for filming in that awful weather!! Love the tweed, love the wine review (I do beer reviews but now feel like a complete peasant) and the worlds smallest tarp lol! Happy new year lol!! Karen

      Hi Karen, thanks for stopping by! I have heard of you, and your channel seems to be doing really well! ...meanwhile I'm here in this weird backwater of doing outdoorsy stuff with tweed suits and Burgundy, so it's really nice that you've found me.
      There's absolutely nothing peasant-ish about beer reviews! Lots of my videos feature pubs and I can't really imagine wanting to drink anything other than beer in a pub (unless there's some really good local cider). At least part of the reason I tend to carry wine on these walks / wild camps is just that it's more weight efficient. Although maybe I end up defeating the object because it's in a glass bottle.
      😁

    Thanks Tweedy for your excellent video showing the reality of English countryside in mid Winter (I remember it well).
    Also a timely reminder of ‘Immemoriam’ you are a man of great refinement.
    Happy new year to you ‘n’ yours.

      Happy New Year Jim!
      Yes one of the "benefits" of not having a huge amount of free time is that when I do have a window of opportunity to get out into the countryside I just have to take it whatever the weather - so I do end up seeing the English countryside in all conditions. Normally Wolstonbury Hill is a relatively popular spot for a walk but as you can see in the video there was nobody else around on this occasion!
      I went for a walk around New Year's Eve to Black Down a few years back, and so this time of year always reminds me of that Tennyson poem now. I might even have a bit of ancient footage of me reciting the poem at the Temple of the Winds on Black Down, I'll see if I can dig it out.
      I really like how open minded you all are, although overall this is an outdoors channel I enjoy throwing in all these other bits and pieces that I'm interested in, like the ancient history and even on this occasion a (brief) bit of poetry... I haven't yet heard any complaints! Or maybe you're all just too polite. 😁

      Your poetry reading would be very welcome. This video made me think of Robert Blyth’s book ‘Akenfield’ which is about the hardships of life in the Sussex villages from the time of the Industrial Revolution. When all working men.and some women had to work on the land in all weathers. Farms made their own beer and each worker was given a daily allowance of 17 pints.

    • @tweedyoutdoors
      @tweedyoutdoors  Рік тому +1

      @@jimwulstan8592 I haven't read Akenfield but I have read Cold Comfort Farm! On some level a similar setting, albeit perhaps not as serious a treatment of the subject matter. Is that figure of 17 pints of beer based on the fact that would more or less cover the daily calorific requirement of an adult? I can't help but think modern nutritionists might nitpick that dietary choice a bit... What awful killjoys!

      @jimwulstan8592 Рік тому +1

      Yes it’s the same here, we have a PM who seems to be worried that somebody somewhere might be enjoying themselves. Time for me to read Cold Comfort Farm.

    Only recently found your channel. Really enjoying it. different. Might look up that wine. I get mine from Berry Bro and Rudd and I am after a 'lighter' red. disabled so walking anywhere is out. I miss just going for a walk in the woods. Setting up a stove and having a brew. Thank you.for the good entertainment.

      Thanks Alan, and great to have a new viewer! Yes BBR stock Louis Boillot's wines, in fact it was a member of staff there who told me how to pronounce it (he said "just say it with confidence and it'll sound right). Not sure they have this particular 1er cru but I think Boillot's "village level" Gevrey Chambertin is also good. I think 2017 is a great year for Burgundy generally.

      @@tweedyoutdoors Just looked up. 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin, Les Cherbaudes, 1er Cru, Domaine Louis Boillot, Burgundy £795 for six starting bid!! lol

    • @tweedyoutdoors
      @tweedyoutdoors  Рік тому +1

      @@salan3 haha yes that is a bit pricey! I picked up my bottle from DBM Wines in Bristol as I was passing through the other day, it was a fair bit cheaper than that. Not sure whether they still have any more. The village level Gevrey from Boillot is cheaper and I think also good. I bought a case of the 2018 from BBR en primeur a couple of years back, thinking it might be a good investment, but that hasn't really substantially gone up in value from what I paid for it - probably a bumper vintage.

    Excellent Mr Tweed. I was a bit slow getting around to watching this episode, it is the new year now, certainly. And a happy one for you I hope it is. Do you ever use a Trangia alcohol stove? I don't remember seeing you with one but I could be wrong, I quite rate them really.

    • @tweedyoutdoors
      @tweedyoutdoors  Рік тому +1

      I do have a Trangia burner which I can slot into the Honey Stove but I've yet to use it - at least partly because not many places seem to sell suitable fuel online, and it was easier to get a bunch of those BCB FireDragon fuel blocks at the same time as ordering a bunch of other camping bit and pieces. Probably I can just get some generic (m)ethanol or whatever at my local hardware shop? Or indeed just use up the dubious looking spirits at the back of mt cocktail cabinet which people have given me over the years and I'll never get round to drinking?

    • @AnyoneForToast
      @AnyoneForToast Рік тому

      @@tweedyoutdoors Generic meths at your hardware store is exactly what you want. A tiny drop of water in it helps to stop your pan getting all sooty. The crap at the back of your drinks cabinet (is it like Del Boy's globe?) will not be strong enough unless you bought it from a lunatic in Austria or Ireland. Hot Tip, don't try to start it with a lighter, you'll burn yourself, use a match. Those "Cooks", I think, the longer ones, they are the ones you want. 😁 Edit: or "Ship" possibly, the longer ones anyway
