Champagne on the M25

  • I somehow got this idea into my head that there would be some magical undiscovered place at the edge of the M25. There wasn't.
Thanks to ‪@BurtonOutdoors‬ for the inspiration though!

Oh my. Thank you for taking us down those footpaths and into the cauldron that is the M40/M25 junction so that we don’t need to. 🥴😂
Seriously though, if such places are not explored, and those footpaths not trod they will eventually disappear. The ramblers will be proud of you.
As for having champagne on the M25 I bet that’s a first. 👏👏👍😀🥂

Ah my beloved Uxbridge. You must have passed through New Denham to get to the M40. New Denham is twinned with Shark Bay, Australia if you can believe that. Apparently though, it was a very close call between Coco Beach and the planet Mars but Shark bay pipped them to it. True story.

    Got it, avoid Uxbridge!

Thanks Paul! Particularly appreciated given that this was a bit of a weird one.

Intrepid is the word. Places that even champagne can't enliven. But you came through and had a story to tell. The horse was lovely and sad.

I love your enthusiasm in these videos, and also the quirkyness of posh tweed and champagne mixed with rain and mud. All very British :)

Champagne on the M25 seems more sensible than super gluing your body part’s to the road. (Recent protesters)
As you said, not the most exciting adventure… but it was an adventure nevertheless. Keep the good video’s coming.

Hahaha, you don't see a lot of protesters in tweed!

It is difficult to know what to say in response to this challenging video, other than maybe to say John that when considering the whole spectrum of 'attractive walks' at least you have established what is undoubtedly one extreme end which is pretty brave ..... the only way is up now ...... and also the 'white' horse (they are called greys) got a visitor and I should imagine that will be quite a highlight for him that he can share with his grandfoals one day. Anyway .... well done.

Yes I completely agree, even I found it hard to know what to say about it! I wish I had taken more video footage of the horse, he (?) had the sort of playfulness of a dog, but had a wild air about him which was a tiny bit intimidating. He had been padding along behind me as I walked across the field then suddenly galloped past me at one point, just inches away, then turned to look at me, almost in the same way an expectant dog waits for a ball to be thrown. I felt a bit sorry for him really, got the sense he was a bit lonely in that field all by himself, I can imagine I was the only visitor he had all day. Maybe all week?

One of my favourite wild camp spots is by a busy duel carriageway. I don’t mind the constant noise and I think it makes these kind of spots less busy with people. Well done John - I love your video style which is enhanced by the occasional utter madness. Cheers 🍾🥂

Thanks for the very kind comment Giles! Yes I think there's something oddly quite special about these little bits of greenery in the cracks between the desolation caused by modern transport infrastructure. They do seem to be overlooked and forgotten about and that adds to their strange charm. Although I ended the video on a bit of a negative note about the walk I seem to have spent a lot of time dwelling on it since and I actually think in hindsight maybe there was a bit of magic to be found here!

I like that you post the adventure whether it turns out or not... Nevermind, you never know until you get there. Just curious, why do you never wear a hat? 😇

This was a bit of a ridiculous walk! I was trying to show there's a potential for something magical in nature even in these weird forgotten corners where modernity has so thoroughly trampled over what was there before... You can never really erase a stream, just hide it underground, and it continues to flow through the tunnels or drains or whatever regardless. I think there's something quite uplifting about that. Not really sure it came through in the video though!

Well that one was beyond the call of duty, I'd say. Thank you for putting yourself through it! On the plus side, I think your overall narration is getting more confident and "flows" easily. Enjoyable.

Great video! I find this very strange, the field and quarry you walked through in Ux/New Denham was at the back of my original house on Newtown Road (moved away 3 yrs ago). Now I live next to Avebury and discovered you thanks to the Wansdyke vids. Wonderful shoutout to Haze too, it's a very different gate or two! I used to get chased by cows in the field just past the Crown and Treaty (Brown and Meaty to locals)/Swan and bottle! Used to live by the M25 pass over near Iver too. Love how you cart bottles around, my kinda guy! Check out the Iver canal/church route from West Drayton, much more tame especially in Autumn, the colours stand out so much!

That is a strange coincidence! Maybe there is some cosmic significance of that little corner of Greater London after all? Very envious that you now live near Avebury, I noticed a cottage for sale in the village a couple of years ago and was very tempted, but alas probably wouldn't have worked for my family who bizarrely (to me) have other priorities in life over and above megaliths!

@@tweedyoutdoors I would absolutely love to think so! Though I've not yet found it or what it is yet! Not for much longer but it's been a blast here! Haha, what a shame! Life moves in very strange directions sometimes so you never know!

Shout out Burton Outdoors 😁👍 Wow! As you were on the bridge with the champers, I did think to myself all the drivers underneath would probably think you're a "jumper" that was a bit of an interesting but challenging hike, I still enjoyed though. Lee

    • @tweedyoutdoors
      @tweedyoutdoors  2 роки тому +2

Thanks Lee! Yea it's a shame as there was a wide pavement on that bridge over the M25, easily room for a picnic table, which could have helped to allay concerns that weirdos like me were there for anything more than a spot of light refreshment. The idea for this video seemed to be an itch I couldn't scratch since your comment back in August, but I think I have now got it out of my system! Hopefully "normal" service will be resumed from the next video...

@@tweedyoutdoors It could of been a great video on the bridge, eating cucumber sandwiches and quaffing champagne 🍾
