English Sparkling on Ditchling Beacon l A Schlep Up the South Downs in Hot Weather

- I brave the 32°C heat to climb Ditchling Beacon, lugging up an ice bucket and a bottle of English sparkling wine, so I can sit atop the South Downs drinking newly released Everflyht, overlooking the vineyard where the grapes were grown.
It’s almost indistinguishable from a Bear Grylls expedition, albeit that I didn’t at any point drink my own urine.

Great video! Authentic, hilariously self-deprecating, and a superb spot - have sat up on Ditchling Beacon many a time myself. If ever you're planning a similar expedition on the North Downs near my neck of the woods, I'll have to spare your back and deliver you some fresh ice

Fair play for lugging the ice bucket and wine glass up a hill. I’m sure if I tried that I’d have broken the glass!

I really like the Wilton ESW, but I’ll give the Everflyht a go based on your recommendation
Great to find a fellow ESW enthusiast on here! I'm not normally a fan of rosé but I thought Everflyht's was very good - a lot of body to it, presumably due to the skin contact. Their other wine (the classic cuvée or whatever it's called) was ok but a bit unremarkable by contrast. Yes Wiston is very good, I'm a big fan of their (now ex) winemaker Dermot Sugrue. Black Dog Hill, East Meon and of course his own label are other fine examples of his work in my opinion.

You're welcome Richard! as I say in the video I've taken a lot of inspiration from your videos, much appreciated. Although this one is definitely not on a par with the long distance hikes you normally seem to be doing. It's a sort of lazy / self indulgent version of enjoying the great outdoors - just walking up a hill, drinking some wine, and walking back down again. Hopefully some more serious long distance walks / camps to follow!

I tend to disagree when you said 'I can't cope with this heat'. Considering the unerring maxim about 'Mad dogs and Englishmen ...... '. And the fact that you lugged up ice bucket complete with ice 🤣😂, including the full glass bottle of ESW ..... well, all I can say is 'I rest my case Your Honour'.

Hahaha thanks Giles! Yes I definitely had the Noel Coward song in my head at some points of the walk. I edited out some of the worst excesses of me being completely out of breath on the way up Ditchling Beacon, so in the final cut it looks like I coped with it better than I did. As always I felt great once I was at the top though!

Wow thanks Lee! I've enjoyed your all your CLB guest star appearances, and occasionally now find myself - without realising I'm doing it - ripping off your habit of saying an abrupt "Bye!" and turning the camera off. If you ever see that in one of my videos it came from you.
It's very much amateur hour over here compared to seasoned pros like you and Dan! I'm still very new to this and I'm figuring out what, if anything, I have to offer that anyone might actually want to watch. If there is an unfilled niche for unnecessarily complicated outdoor drinking then maybe that's it!
@@tweedyoutdoors I'm hardly a seasoned pro, I'm like marmite to most people 🤣 Keep doing what your doing, I found your video very interesting, different and with your own individual style. Be yourself on YT is my only advice, people generally like real personalities. Look forward to watching more wine drinking on hills, mountains or the hard shoulder of the M25. Lee
