Joey Santiago is the most unappreciated guitarist of the 80s/90s, possibly of all time. He never tries to steal the show, just pumps up already massive songs with plenty of extra juice.
he never says a word and yet his guitar playing can just convey so much. You get such a clear sense of who is (or his persona as a musician I suppose). Really an incredible band all around
@@dalehensley7453 lmfao what a badass. Guaranteed the magazine complained about his two-notes only playing(which I love, he does so much with so little) so here he does some crazy tapping style playing to shut them up. I love the pixies! Joey is a guitar God.
The two Memphis': there's an Elvis Presley song called "Trying to get to you", and Frank Black's letter goes to Egypt. Pixies songs are so full of references, but never feel pretentious. Just full of love for good rock music.
Black Francis at his dorkiest and cutest and damn if it doesn't hit right in the feels. The Pixies' whole sound was rooted in dynamics and the dynamics between the abrasive guitars and the almost nursery rhyme-esque silliness of the lyrics really elevates this into something most musicians couldn't hope to write. Am I the only person who when they heard this track for the very first time, felt that hey'd heard it a million times before? Not in a bad way, but in a way that it somehow had always been part of their life?
There are so many amazing Pixies songs, but I'm tempted to say this is my favorite. I feel like I hear something new buried in the bombardment of sonic waves every time I listen to it.

If you can afford it, hang on a bit longer for the soothing sounds of Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons. All of these are great songs in their own right, but the sequencing (even better than on Bossanova) makes them even more addictive!
The whole album is so well sequenced! One of the reasons why i would consider this as my favourite pixies album. It feels like every song is its own galaxy in one big, cohesive and beautiful rock-universe :D
This is exactly my opinion! The beauty of UA-cam. Otherwise these songs went unnoticed, just let the whole album play. We live in a fantastic era. God bless!

This song. THIS SONG!! I'm a bass man at heart, but the guitar in this tune really resonates in me. I remember the first time I heard Letter to Memphis and everything just *clicked* It felt so familiar yet fresh. It was as if it had always been in my life, but I'd somehow only just realised it. Many regard 'Teenager of the year' as his masterpiece. It came out in 94, even now I listen to it as much 'Pixies'. It's a sprawling album of truly epic proportions which refuses to age. However, his other band FB and the Catholics were fantastic and just heavily under - rated. 'Show Me Your Tears, 'Pistolero' and 'Dog In The Sand' are all mighty fine albums. They were also a great live act. I think FB/BF is one of the most innovative musicians of the last few decades!! Enjoy his music Joshua!!

And all these sirens they make me mad
