It's such a sad thing to hear Frank say "To continue on with the songs that you don't know..." That's what a band receives when fans don't give their new content a try: a dead crowd that just politely bob their heads to an fucking awesome tune like Letters to Memphis. I recently saw them in Anaheim, CA for their second Head Carrier tour and people were just so fucking dead when they played Head Carrier or Indie City tunes. It really sucks that people don't give nearly as much time to appreciating an album as much as the band does to make it. Now I bet all these people in this concert are looking back on these UA-cam clips and thinking "I fuckin wish I knew this album more," cos Trompe Le Monde, though it took me a little longer to appreciate it, is a fucking masterpiece.
Eduardo Rivera I know ! It's so good. I wouldn't listen to it if it hadn't been before the internet (I got it as a cassette tape from the navy exchange
They don't know the songs because Trompe le Monde wasn't released for another few months after this. Not that that refutes the larger point you are making which I agree with.
agree (: if they play these when i get to see them (again) i would go nuts and then try to enjoy it just to fail cuz it's so infinitely perfect and short
People going to concerts today are just dead! It's nothing like it used to be... I'm sometimes the only one to start jumping around carelessly and I'm 47 yr. It's ridiculous!
Trompe Le Monde seems pretty heavy on studio production (for a Pixies album anyway), and it's a testament to how great they are that they can still nail it true and beautiful on stage like this. 'Letter To Memphis' is a song that can still give me those 'first time listen' goosebumps, even though the first time I listened to it is actually about 16 years in the past.
@mushroom957 One of my favorite things about the Pixies is how the members look like they don't belong in a band together. And their songs are awesomely unique and bizarre and I can't get enough of them.
@mrpop8 You clearly never saw them live. With great song after great song, and fantastic performances, they're the best live act I've ever seen or am ever likely to see
the Ep. Casino has no pickguard. It's a Gibson ES 335. Damn... I love Santiago's playing on this track. His playing sounds like a science experiment gone awry.
Actually, it's a Gibson ES-347. Oddly Charles' hasn't the split-coil switch on the lower bout. Les Pauls' and ES-335-likes' pick-ups are pretty much the same (esp. the vintage ones).
First of all, pixies are, imao, one of the best "rock" bands, maybe not as good as good as like beatles, but def. better than queen, as epic as like sonic youth or pavement. And live, i will say that the pixies are much much much better than the chili peppers, as theyve got soul and are much rawer. The peppers sound just like in the recordings. And dont get me wrong, but you dont sound like a pixies fan
Amazing song, but trainwreck performance. Except for a bunch of them, those wonderful Bossanova/Trompe Le Monde tracks never sounded really good when they performed them live. Charles himselfs seems to dislike those 2 albums, which is a shame. I mean, songs like "Trompe Le Monde" & "The Sad Punk" are probably the best rock songs ever written. And "Letter to Memphis" is epic, too.
Joey sounded fairly well. He never was and never will be one of the top lead guitarists of all time, but I'll always be a huge fan--he did a lot with somewhat limited natural talent.

trompe le monde is a masterpiece, shame about everything they did after the reunion though
one of the greatests rock intro ever
Is there any band that plays mellodicaly with such intensity and discipline as the pixies? Amazing!
Neil Young is a master of this.
This album is so great. I'm glad I got it before the internet /// for me it was a cassette tape from the navy exchange
My Pixies favourite Song. If you can tell there's a favoutite.
Please anyone with more Letter to Memphis Post it !!!
thx
Kim Deal is my hero in this video! This is the type of musicianship and bad ass attitude I wish there was more from women in rock these days.
Probably my favourite song of theirs. And to think that many fans have no time for anything post Doolittle
Thanks Frank
Pixies are the best band ever. Fuckin period. Got it??? good.
"And continuing on with the songs that you don't know, this is a song about brine shrimp..."
Perfect in-between songs banter. Perfect.
i cant get enough of this song.... on my ipod hundreds of times at least
damn, I love this song...

amazing
wow finaly i herad it
@mushroom957 thats a reason i love this band. They didnt need gimicky looks they had a good sound and thats all they needed

@DickLodge68 I've been to a bunch of shows myself and the Pixies were fucking amazing in Boston of 09!
The 3rd guitarist is Joey's brother Bob.
i fucking
@mushroom957 well said!
Really?
I think they are one of the best sounding live bands I have ever heard.
35/5
Great song.
epic
@MrFriendepz Space (I Believe In) has Kim's vocals on it. She sings the "spacious" lines. She's in a few others as well.
Sloppy... well sounds like you might have missed the rhythm matey.....This is excruciatingly good. Got it up to 9! Raw power!!
1:50 This is so good
that's a pretty sweet bass.
Every time I watch this I laugh at Kim smoking - that's rock and roll
the Ep. Casino has no pickguard. It's a Gibson ES 335. Damn... I love Santiago's playing on this track. His playing sounds like a science experiment gone awry.
I think you'll find that 'Craig Charles' is Bob Santiago - related to one of the band... I just can't remember who....
Who is the third guitar player?
12 years later but, Joey’s brother
Actually, it's a Gibson ES-347. Oddly Charles' hasn't the split-coil switch on the lower bout. Les Pauls' and ES-335-likes' pick-ups are pretty much the same (esp. the vintage ones).
how about ALWAYS :)
The best song of their worst album, but it's still 10x better than most albums any other artists have made haha
i've never heard a 335 sound quite like that ... they're usually straight up jazz guitars.
Joeys brother along for the ride. They gave him free tickets if he`d play the guitar....
No, it's a Gibson, kind of an ES-335 or ES-355.

At 1:48 you see another guitarist other than Santiago,Does anyone know who it is and why?
His brother. He just wanted to play.
in what possible way are the pixies underrated?
would it kill them to move about on the stage a bit ?
Yes.
@MrFriendepz I agree Trompe is the best although Alec Eiffel has her vocals and that's plenty for me!

This is pretty late but no. Bossanova is Charles' favorite album from the Pixies and that is obvious if you look at Teenager of the Year.
i don't see the relation between those two records (i love ´em though)
can you explain more? (:
Kim is sooo hot everywhere!
@Superabound2 have to disagree haha ;) 1. Doolittle 2. Surfa Rosa 3. Bossanova 4. Trompe le Monde
Joey sounded fairly well. He never was and never will be one of the top lead guitarists of all time, but I'll always be a huge fan--he did a lot with somewhat limited natural talent.
This ain't no foo fighters playing. also the pixies are known to change the entire song around when it comes to playing live.
I'll be DAMN if I start to listen to a band because of their looks.
This was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
A loose take on Elvis' 'Trying to get to you'.
no creo, ahora todos estan gordazos
Decadence. Fucking awesome decadence
probablemente el bajo mas feo de kim
Dude... You just can't compare The Pixies with RHCP or Queen. That's just a whole different league.
Absolutely, the Pixies are far better
kims bass guitar is garbage. Not the playing just the instrument itself.
