Thank you very much for the tutorial Richard. I follow it and learn on my DB01, and this rythm pattern on the first half of the video give me an idea of a track.
This reminds me of Perkons towards the end! Poor man’s Perkons 🕺🏻 It’s on my GAS list but the db01 will do. I appreciate your content, some of the best videos for distortion exploration and analog gear that I’ve found 🙏
Funny you should mention that - in the interview I did with Girts I said I thought that there were a few sonic similarities between the DB-01 drum abilities and Perkons and whether there was any circuitry of software elements in common. He said no - none at all. Perhaps at the fundamental conceptual level there are still some things which tie them together because I swear I can hear it :D
@@RichardDeHove 100% Its the distortion, filter an BBD delay I think that has that character. Im still shocked that Perkons is mainly digital, it sounds huge!
great tutorial, thanx for that. I wish my DB 01 would work again after I accedentially plugged in the wrong power supply perhaps wrong polarity it went compliedly dead :( Sorry to ask but couldn't find infos anywhere else: just wondering and hoping there is some kind of a fuse I can exchange to get it back to life. cheers
That's sad :( I opened one of mine up and had a look. I'm certainly no electronics expert but to my eyes there was nothing that looked like a fuse and certainly nothing which would be user-replaceable. OTOH I once fried a Roland controller keyboard by plugging in the wrong power supply (and got that awful electrical burning smell). I sent it off to the local dealer and it was repaired very cheaply. I'd just ask Erica support what they think. They should know whether you've fried the guts or just need some simple fix.
Hi man thankyou for the video…have you tried sequencing a synth via CV out from DB 01? I cant find any info on this ? Id love to send sequence data out both Pitch and midi to my pulsar 23 bass channel…
I've done a couple of videos about the DB-01 controlling other synths by MIDI, which of course is very simple. Have also fed CV into the DB-01. But the only CV pitch out has been for control info rather than 1:1 puitch control. Like this one: ua-cam.com/video/_5ntNggyrIs/v-deo.html I haven't used a Pulsar-23 but doesn't that have a four channel MIDI to CV convertor in it? Maybe that would be the easiest way. Otherwise I think the bass channel has a CV 1V/Oct pin as well? Then you'd just need to feed in the gate info. Be interesting to see the result!
@@RichardDeHove Thankyou so Much i will review your videos again and see your findings…i love the Erica filters and fx like the fusion box they complement the Pulsar 23 perfectly…cheers man 😊🙏🫶
@@robfordomjones Agreed! The Polivoks in the DB-01 is pretty special. I had the new Elta PF-3 Polivoks for a while but it didn't have the same bite at high res.
The Zen delay is an odd one. I love that it is knob-per-function and it certainly has a beautiful sound that is incredibly fast and easy to tweak. I used to have the Nemesis delay which was very good, but had too many hidden features. Many people love the Zen's filter and drive, but I tend to be delaying units that already have good filters and drive so it's sort of redundant. If it had an LFO it would be very different! But instead to get the most out of it you need to "play" the knobs. I think live it would be absolutely unbeatable. Also I think it would be an excellent choice for super-charging an otherwise boring or simple synth. I've actually packed up the Zen twice to sell it, then unpacked it again :)

You are very clever to make this a drum machine!
I love this machine! Great demo!!
Awesome. Will pair so well with the dfam
Yes, it makes a perfect partner!

Nice videos,!!! Any chance exploring drones a bit more? Thanks
Thanks. I have done a little more exploration using CV and drones here: ua-cam.com/video/YxRwyHsj1B4/v-deo.html - and some more to come.

Such a fun inspiring synth, I don’t have the zen delay, do you highly recommend? On the border because of price.

@@RichardDeHove haha I was hoping I’d be convinced but I stay undecided instead. I appreciate your point of view.
NIN vibes
Very cool! I want to get this but man, it's soooo expensive...
You pay a premium for Erica gear. OTOH better to have one really good bit of gear than several so-so units. And the DB-01 is built like a T-34.
@@RichardDeHove Fair enough!
