also: random Metal drums for cinematic percussion is unstoppable. Great, evolving Percussion, super fast and easy. That was an absolute no-brainer too!!
So the plug in is called “ random “ and the other is called “ random metal “ I’m a little confused while my jaw is on the ground. Love every thing you every helped us with man ( 🤜🏻🤛🏻)
Trusted you on this and just got the plugin. FU@?%&CK YEH, lol! But seriously though. I just popped this as high hat/shaker into a track I'm working on, kind of tripped out techno thingy and the sounds sit so perfectly in the mix. Happy days!
As if Belgians needed something else to be awesome at. First Beer, then frites, then Moules-frites, then chocolate, now techno.... Damn, is there anything they cant solve?! 😁 Great video! Glad you are loving the modules, and I LOVE that software! I need to try it! Can't wait to see where this goes next. Awesome stuff!!
Nice one man, glad to see more live performance orientated material from your channel, ableton is good but some of us want to spend more time twisting knobs and to use our drum machines, sequencers and Modular toys 🦾🦾
That littly ditty you made really gave me huge Leftfield vibes! That kick/bass sounds like their track Phat planet almost, just sped up and changed to a techno rhythem instead of a more breaky rythem!!!
I'm still considering the Knobula Kickain the best kick module, that said I always wanted a battering ram to complement it... And the metal plugin is so effing dope 🤩
great, now i want at least one battering ram, and i neither make techno nor do i have the space in my rack. in your video it really seems to be a module lots of sweet spots and superb heavy sound.
Absolutely lovely demo of the Battering Ram! It's more expensive than any module in my (roughly) 6 Eurorack systems, but damn does it sound the part. I originally got the Befaco Kickall a few years ago to achieve a similar thing and while it absolutely can give the Battering Ram a run for its money in some scenarios, I've found it way more useful as an "808 bass" in the rack rather than an actual kickdrum. I really do wish Shakmat did a DIY version of the Battering Ram; maybe I just need to start saving up! Also, shoutout to the AFA Baron Samedi I see in your rack! As one of your Indian viewers, its great to see you showing love to *THE* Indian distortion legends in Eurorack rn
@@OscarUnderdog it really does! I bought the V1 Godeater pedal 5 years ago and I wanted to get the Eurorack version but that was just too far out of my budget, so I ended up simply 3D printing a Eurorack panel for the pedal and made a custom power cable, and it literally worked first try; the entire circuit being made to handle Eurorack +12V power and Eurorack level audio just proved to me how much care and thought goes into AFA's designs (well that and getting to talk to the actual people working there lol)
Battering Ram is SMD so that's why they don't make it DIY , would lead to many mistakes and unhappy customers... IMHO Battering eats Kickall with a glass of milk every breakfast :p
Coincidentally, I've just spent just under a grand on Modular this afternoon. Then I come across your bloody video. Oh, thank you very much. If I had children they would starve this winter.
My favourite thing about modular is that "just spent under a grand" can mean anything from 3 full systems with case and power to maybe a couple of individual modules, depending on the actual selection of gear :D
i've missed a few of your videos. i remember you looking at but not wanting to get into eurorack. congrats on still jumping into it. welcome to the club!
Yeah I guess I also was hesitant about how to storytell with modular (it can get very dry very quickly). I'm not going to be a gear reviewer or hardware synth channel - so now that I've found this personal storyline ("I want to build a liveset for myself") it's exciting, and I've got enough film experience now to try something like this!
@@OscarUnderdog i wansn't even fearing you'd go into the gear review direction. we have enough people who do that already, and do it well. your channel has always been about using whatever tool or technique to make good (and interesting!) techno. i'm confident you'll do that with modular as well, even if it's not quite as easy to show what's going on with hardware compared to a screen. anways, i'm looking forward to seeing more eurorack in your future videos.
Did you know that Steve’s MS-22, the most popular MS-20 inspired eurorack filter is also being made in Belgium (about 30km from your doorstep)? I’ll happily borrow you one if you’d like to give it a spin :)
First off, I want to move to Belgium. Brussels is obviously the place to be. Secondly, you stopped this Reason lover from using Reason for a year+ when you presented the video that said "change your method and it will change the results". You know what I'm talking about. I went DAWless. Bought lots of hardware and a really big table. So it's extra cool to watch you get excited with this hardware. There's just something about tweaking those knobs man. And then! You bring the DAW back into it all for added magic. OMG, slap!
@@OscarUnderdog At the heart of it is the Novation Circuit Tracks and Circuit Rhythm, known for their great workflow. The most exciting thing is the Arturia MiniFreak. It's very expressive and has a great approach to synthesis.
Good shout! Switching DAWs is hard to make a video about though, I'd be so much slower and more awkward in FL, possibly alienating my Ableton folks while simultaneously boring the FL folks. But I'm not closing the door, there might be a day where I explore it for sure. Used to watch a lot of SeamlessR's channel using FL.
@@OscarUnderdog I think there's a FL plugin that you can use in Ableton, the same way you can with Reason, best of both world :) I love FL but Live is probably better when using external synth so maybe not much to gain in switching
The plugin reminds me of Visco. I have Serum though and Vital, and something tells with some sound engineering chops you could create the same sounds with wavetable synthesis.
Hello Oscar! Great content as always! apart from the amazing-sounding battering ram: what other modules do you reccomend for making techno with eurorack? I'm starting to design my own system and I need ideas for filters, effects, sequencers and the like. Thanks a lot ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Honestly I've got a bunch of modules but am only beginning to experience the liveset world. Surco's channel would be better for real recommendations. But anyway, the DFAM is absolutely cool, the battering ram is absolutely cool, and the Oxi Meta is absolutely cool. I do recommend 😁
you can make techno with everything in eurorack ^^ there are a ton of cool modules. but i would recommend more these two "utility modules" before anything else : pam's new workout -its a genius master clock, clock divider and trigger generator -it syncs your whole system together and opens it up completely, i couldnt live without one. ornament & crime is also a big favorite, i use it really all the time as it can do pretty much everything. multiples are also basic but you cant play without. its cool to switch modules and not stick on one design.you can find easily on the second hand market and re-sell modules that your dont like anymore at the same price you paid them yourself. spend time watching module tutorials before you buy :)
@@D_E_N_modular Yeah! I definitely had pam's new workout in my modulargrids' list. I'll also check ornament and crime 4 sure. Do you have any reccomendations for sequencers? I was thinking about qubit bloom for HP to functionality and for being capable of generating stable sequences but also generative ones.
@ i haven’t used it, but i love qu bit in general. there are some sequencers inside ornament & crime too, it’s always useful : variable length step sequencer, turing machine, mimetic digitalis/rené clones,… i also use varigate, voltage block, marbles, steppi, nerdseq. they are all useful for some applications but there’s no « one fits all » solution in my experience.

I met the team at Machina Bristronica where I had a lot of help building my Battering Ram. Really nice guys, and amazing product.
Love those huge metallic sounds, kinda like a taiko drum made out of steel.
